My daughter graduated this past June 2025 and was there for her four years of high school in the Magnet program. Over that time, I’ve seen the school go through many positive changes with staff and campus improvements. My daughter was actively involved in sports, activities, and school events, which really enriched her high school experience. She received support from the Gleam Program instructors, as well as from the College Counselor, who was always available and willing to help. I truly believe that when students stay involved and keep a positive outlook, both they and the school thrive.

Great school if you want your children skilled in the arts of street combat , also as a bonus they will acquire drug habits and the art of hiding things from their parents don’t forget the administrative assistants who hate parents , if you want your kids to have an uphill battle and want to become a jr detective tossing bedrooms inspecting backpacks and hours of interrogations trying to figure out who sold them what then this is the school for you, or you can just send them to a private school good luck

This school is not the greatest choice for your student. One great counselor and a couple of good teachers do not make this a great school especially when the Principal does not put the needs of the students before whatever
School started this year and one building had no air conditioning. I was assured that they were moving those classes into the air conditioning library but they did not - not even once.
The senior grad day to Disneyland included our students riding on school buses with no air conditioning for over 3 hours and they were not allowed to take water on the bus. Inhumane and insane.
I would recommend finding a different school

This school has been the 2nd choice for years as parents have tried to get their kids into highly ranked Granada Charter, but more parents and students are choosing JFK as GHCHS gets more and more crowded. At Kennedy, kids have a greater chance to stand out and make a difference. My older daughter went to Granada, was an awesome student, but was lost in the MASSIVE shuffle. My younger child got opportunities to excel and be recognized, and Dr. Chavez sets a great tone for campus culture.

Great school, helps all students no favoritism in any area. Most graduates continued their education at colleges and universities across the country.

Most teachers are highly experienced in teaching and in their fields (many have masters and several have doctorates in their respective fields of English, Education, Science, Math, etc.), but as typical of large schools, they have to deal with students of all walks of life, which means they work with advanced students as well as many who might have troubles at home and lower academic performance. All around, teachers do an amazing job at having to teach all different levels of students. Lower performing students get much attention from the dean with student success teams that follow their progress throughout the year. The success teams are made up of teachers, counselors, and, when necessary, a psychologist. As a teacher with over fifteen years of experience (at schools in two different states), I have never felt, more than I do here, the kind of warmth, acceptance, and sense of responsibility that teachers try to give to their students at this school. Teachers here believe in rigor as well as making learning fun -- they truly care about raising achievement as well understanding the student as a person -- and this concern about both the rigor and the fun in learning has been a welcome change from past teaching situations I have encountered. So many schools care so much about achievement that they fail to teach students how to love learning, while other schools teach them to love to learn, and don't do enough focused and targeted work to increase student performance. Balance, in my opinion, is key.

This school is typical of most LA Unified schools that I have experienced throughout the years. I am involved with my children but I don't always receive the cooperation to help me make sure they are doing what they are supposed to. It should be a team effort with parents, teachers and students collaborating. I have a Junior son and a Sophomore daughter currently attending. My daughter really struggles academically and I had to ask her counselor numerous times about getting a daily report card to make sure she is doing her work as well as have her tested for a learning disability. I don't want to say I have been ignored, but I have not received any follow up from the counselor and I have to stay on her constantly. My Jr son who does NOT have a pass to leave campus at lunch is allowed to leave at lunch ALL THE TIME!!?!?! He has come home to eat a few times and said the guy at the front just lets him walk off. I suspect that they are very lax with their rules and from what I have experienced they are just as lax with letting people on campus.

Im rating J.F.K on what it was to me as a student in the early 80s.The school itself was ok.I liked Granada Hills.The faculty seemed removed from the students.I never met the Principal.I coulnt even tell you his name.We had a great football team and our share of preppys.Still i dont know why it was one of my favorite schools.The best thing that i can remember from my last year in 83 was Howie Long of the Raiders came to give us a pep talk just before graduation..That was pretty cool..Marc Cresta Class of 83..

The Architecture and Digital Arts Magnet at Kennedy is a one of a kind program. Awesome. A must see for parents interested in an excellent magnet program within LAUSD.

This school is very multi-cultural. They have many events to spread cultral around. It has many oppurtunities here.

Well im going to school here in the SAS program and the teachers are excellent they really make you think and learn and theyre really nice.
