I have only been there for one year as our child started in Kindergarten but the teachers have gone above our expectations. The children are excited to come to school every morning and they are thriving. My Kindergartener wont stop talking about one day going to college and they offer an incredible after school program. All the staff knows you and it is easy to speak to the principal regarding any issues. I am looking forward to what this next year has in store for our child.

My Son has been at Knollwood since 1st Grade. Every year the instructors have been Amazing! During the challenging time of COVID-19 his 4th grade instructor Ms. Nalbandian made it easy for her students to adapt to distance learning and it gave me as a Parent Peace of Mind knowing that my Son has a dedicated, knowledgable and caring instructor. Thank you!

My son has an IEP and his teacher expects him to complete all assignments with no help at all from her. It has been very difficult transition due to COVID-19 but she should be understanding.

They have some resources but not enough. They need to make more of an effort to help the students that need it.

This year has been the worst. Horrible 4th grade teacher.

My daughter has been attending Knollwood since Kindergarten. She is now in 3rd grade. Since my time here at Knollwood, Mrs. Salazar is active and pushes the parents with getting the parents involved with school activities. I have noticed the PTA committee is doing well. My overall experience with Knollwood has been enjoyable. Not every school is perfect. As long as the principal, parents and school staff is improving the overall education, then I am all for it.

The teachers use ClassDojo and other apps to communicate with parents the importance of homework.

My kids have been at Knollwood for 4 years now. I love how great the teachers are and how well they communicate with me. I am able to follow all the homework and classwork that is posted on the different online programs they use. The kids are challenged and are allowed to work at their own pace as well. This school has an amazing staff that are always friendly and helpful. The music and art programs are perfect as well. Perfect in every way and continues to get better every year.

Zero effectiveness, at least from our point of view which differs quite contrastingly from all the glowing reviews by satisfied parents here. Parents who pulled out their kids from this school obviously didn't have interest to give this school badmouthing, but somebody has to exposed the gritty part to warn parents intending their kids to enroll in this school, to let them know beforehand what they're getting themselves into. That's the bottom line.
Posted: September 5, 2019
Not at all. Knew parents of children with special needs pulling their kids from this school because it failed to meet effective their needs. Teachers here are not partial with preference on a certain ethnic group even it's obvious that they really are not showing up academically.
Posted: September 5, 2019
Not so. Principal is two-faced. Does not investigate properly. Vilifies the complaining student and parent especially when competency & impartiality of her faculty has been questioned.
Posted: September 5, 2019
Very disappointing, and that sums it all up.

We love this school. They do a wonderful job preparing the students and other schools know this! So when parents apply for other, more “well known” schools, they cherry pick Knollwood students after the teachers here have done all the hard work to make sure the students are at their best.

Homework assigned is not too much and if your child needs to be challenged, they provide extra “fun” homework for your child if he/she is motivated enough to do more

Staff is always responsive to parent needs and concerns. So long as you approach it in a professional manner. Some parents think that it is the teachers job to do EVERYTHING. No, it is not. They are there to teach the curriculum. They are not babysitters, they are not there to discipline your child, teach them manners. That is the PARENTSÂ’ job FIRST not theirs.

There is a split class 2/3rd grade. The days that the teacher is there she mainly focuses on second graders leaving third graders at a disadvantage not to mention curriculum wise also. Third grade rarely does any writing. How does that prepare them for fourth grade.

How can they develop integrity when the principal herself has none.

Lead by example they say. How is a student not to bully when a certain teacher bullies her students. God forbid you go to the office and complain about it.
Posted: February 7, 2019
Tolerable. If you wanÂ’t to be in good standing with the Principal and office aid Gina donÂ’t complain about anything because your childÂ’s education will suffer. And the PrincipalÂ’s Message on the school website is far from the truth.

Bullying exists at this school. Children who should not be placed together (per previous teacher's recommendations) were placed together anyway causing unnecessary discipline problems. Procedures not followed if a child needs special help. One teacher lacks professionalism in dealing with parents.

My son has been at Knollwood since 1st grade (after being at two other LAUSD schools) and our family has witnessed the positive changes at the school over the past three years. Principal Salazar and Ms. Valle are two of the most dedicated, open and communicative administrators we have had the pleasure of working with. The focus here is on the kids and every year is getting better with parent involvement, communication and general community building. We look forward to having our daughter start there in two years as a kinder-kid.

My children have been attending Knollwood for 3 years. The teachers are phenomenal. Mrs. Salazar is a hands on, and amazing principal. She has changed this elementary school for the better. The office staff are friendly, and informative. It is a quaint and tranquil location. Truly a gem.

Knollwood is a culturally diverse community, with caring and dedicated parents and benefits from outstanding leadership from Principal Salazar. In just a short few years, she has turned this school into a learning center. She has a genuine love and respect for not only the families but teachers as well. I am so proud of this school's recent accomplishments and where it is headed.

This school is truly a hidden jewel! We have grown over the past three years all my kids are learning and developing in all areas. Mrs. Salazar has set the standard! The PTA steps up and get the parents, teachers, and students involved. It's a joy to be here, a breath of fresh air!

My children attended this school for during their kindergarten year only. One of the teachers was so ineffective in her teaching style that my son developed a strong dislike for school and cried every morning and begged me not to take him to school. I spoke with the principal on numerous occasions about this teacher but got no support. It took the entire 1st grade to undo 80% of the damage that she did to him.

I want families to know that Knollwood is a much better school than it was 3 years ago. Our family witnessed the turnaround. Principal Salazar has created an organized, positive environment for our kids. With support from some open-minded teachers Knollwood now offers our kids weekly physical education, orchestra lessons, a literacy support center (one of the first in LAUSD). Beautiful murals have been painted at the school. The kids are happier. The office personnel is much more friendly. The Asst Principal changes every year because the district policies are ridiculous. We have a very pleasant one this year and I hope we can keep him! The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star school is the entitled and mean attitude of a few teachers who lack the ability to be introspective and self-reflective. Thankfully, many teachers are positive in light of unrealistic and way, way underfunded demands placed on them by LAUSD. Most teachers now show a sincere desire to positively work with parents and the kids. They even put on a magical Literacy Night for the kids and families. A few parents are visible at the school creating special events like Spirit Day, Halloween, Multi-Cultural Fair, Spring Fling. There is a lot of goodwill at the school now. I wish more families would share the positive aspects of it online now that there is less to complain about. It has come a long way.

Great teachers, office staff, principal, students and families! Also a fantastic after school program. It is time to send your kids here if you live in the community. The school previously had a bad reputation due to poor administration but has completely turned itself around with the leadership of Mrs. Salazar. She is positive, energetic, involved, approachable and reasonable. There are many fun and educational events for students and families. A real sense of community here. Teachers are very dedicated to their jobs. They use differentiated teaching strategies to address all students' abilities and needs. My son is being challenged to work to his full potential thanks to his fabulous teacher! I highly recommend this school, especially if you live in the area. You don't need to apply for the lottery at other schools when you have an amazing home school at Knollwood Preparatory Academy!!!!

I almost want to say it's great but I had a disagreement with the AP about my daughters IEP and I didn't like the way she handled herself or the situation.

My twins started at this school last year and they both had great teachers! Both were very helpful, friendly and seemed genuinely interested in their student's achievement.

My daughters attended this school last year. I was happy with the teacher, however, this school has very little parent involvement and their website is so dated. During our year here they had a new principal assigned and she seems good but even she hasnt addressed the website. Poor communication.

My previous review was removed. So I will try to repost without inadvertently pointing fingers. If your child has an IEP, do not have your child attend this school. The related services such as OT, Speech, APE are fantastic and they care about your child's progress. Any other services related to academic, find a school with a team that cares.

I had 2 of my children attend this school. Although I was hopeful in the begining as to the schools' potential...sad to say they didn't come through. Issues with rude teachers, security staff with attitude (female), food was horrible. I am glad to say that my children have transfered out. Principle is only interested in her gain. Endless fund raisers. But one thing is for certain...Ms Hernandez (kindergarten) was the best. She was great with my son. There are a few good teachers....but it only takes one bad apple to ruin the party. I heard of many incidents where a particular teacher was cussing at a child! Another teacher hit a child....wow! I hope the parents of these children sue the LAUSD for this. And that is the tip of the iceberg. Parking is horrendous! Parents just cant get themselves together either! Double parking, blocking traffic, children darting all over the place. Very hazardous situation. Yeah...glad I don't have to deal with this anymore. Good luck to all others who stick with this school. Hope they can get their act together.
