Honestly, Im really disappointed with the school. Security feels weak and overall management is not doing a good job. The counselors seem disengaged and dont really pay attention to students needs or talents. It often feels like they are just there to get through the day rather than actually supporting the kids. Not a very motivating environment overall.

Unfortunately, our experience with this school was extremely disappointing. While the school places heavy emphasis on academics, it fails to address equally important aspects of a safe and supportive learning environment.

Bullying was not handled with appropriate discipline or urgency, leaving my daughter feeling unprotected and unheard. Repeated attempts to communicate concerns through emails went unanswered, which was both frustrating and concerning as a parent. When serious issues are raised, timely communication should be a priority.

Additionally, there appears to be little enforcement of dress code standards, allowing students to dress inappropriately for a school setting. This lack of structure contributes to an overall environment where boundaries and accountability are missing.

A school should educate the whole child not just focus on grades and test scores, but also character, safety, and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, this school prioritizes academics while neglecting student conduct, communication, and basic standards. I would strongly encourage administration to reassess these areas to better support students and families.

I really love this school i actually go to this school and all the teachers are nice and everything and i really like all the extra curriculums they have and activities. Im always so excited whenever we have an activity, like wear your PJS. There is so many kind people around that campus and funny people that try and help make things better!!

While the school had quite promising programs to offer, the strict dress code which is outdated by two decades and can be inflexible for plus sized students. The support staff do not adhere to the dress code to serve as an example for the students to follow, which is hypocritical. Communication between school staff and families are either robotic boiler language, ineffective, or none at all. School safety has been a huge concern on campus, yet families are left in the dark. While we love the opportunities provided, we are sadly disappointed that we have to rely on our children to communicate the recent safety issues: fights, trespassing, threats to school safety, etc. These should've come first hand from the staff. Its very upsetting to notify families that students must maintain a minimum 96% attendance throughout their stay at Nobel in order to graduate and walk (during their final year.) This information should've been clearly communicated when students first started their stay, not their final year.

Yes, we would recommend it for the programs it offers. Some of teachers and support staff are fantastic! But proceed with caution, so you wont be surprised or blindsided.

Quite possibly the worst experience ever. This school lacks the resources to support their size and number of students. The teachers are rude, demeaning and uncaring. Ive never felt such a lack of collaboration with a school and its staff. The amount of bullying thats allowed to go on is reflective of the culture and school leadership. They dont perform any better from an academic standpoint. The teachers send rude emails and have your child call you from the classroom in front of peers when an issue arises. These calls are never productive and you can hear the teachers speaking rudely to your child in the background while other students laugh. Apparently this is a shaming strategy they seem to think is useful. Its no wonder bullying occurs between students when behavior like this is common. There is no attempt to partner with parents to support students. The relationships are combative and most of the teachers seem like they hate working with kids. Their cute, warm video on their website is in complete opposition to the actual culture and atmosphere. If you are seeking a middle school for your child, look elsewhere.

Most inhumane attitude to kids and parents. They have too many kids to care about. There are over 2000 kids and these people are overwhelmed by these numbers and have too many to care about treating them nicely.

We had a really bad experience with our son at Nobel. He was there in 2017 and 2018 and we had to pull him out. He was being bullied at school and the school did not do much for him. We talked to the counselor about it and she met with him once a quarter. We found many warning signs in the artwork my son made which portrayed the mean things other kids were saying to him about his weight. My son got to the point where he got in a very dark place with comments like FML, IWTD, KM. It was horrible and we had to pull him out and place him in a school which had a better child to teacher ratio. I know other kids have been fine, but ours was not. We moved to this area so we had Nobel and Granada in our school district but unfortunately it did not work out for us.

In regards to the teachers, I know that in 6th grade, his Math teacher was also moonlighting as a lyft driver and would fall asleep in class. :( He did have a History teacher who was encouraging.

I love this school ! Many parents may have concerns about its safety because they do not have a fence but I have seen how there is always someone patrolling the campus. They are quite responsive to parents concerns and are willing to support the students.

The things my daughter told me that other kids said to her was disturbing! And the racial epithets she learned cannot be unlearned, unfortunately. Also, she was told so many times that "snitches get stitches" that she rarely reported mistreatment by her peers to the adults on campus.

I'm so glad I pulled my daughter out of the school! She wasn't in the honors program (which LAUSD is too narrow and stringent in its identification process) and she wasn't in the Magnet. She wasn't supported or encouraged by most teachers. The admin were nowhere to be seen. There were no supports in place for students unless they had IEPs. I'm not sure what LAUSD is spending its LCAP supplemental grant on, but it's obviously not being used to support the whole child.

Highly disappointed with teachers, management and counselors especially. I have been to counselling office 3 times and Ms. Wicker is always busy saying so many parents are waiting ahead of me. I barely got 5 min. to talk to her. And it's not counseling in any way. You can go there to listen to her but you won't have a chance to talk to her. My daughter is in 8th grade and she got a terrible science teacher. I won't recommend this school to anyone. Please look for other good schools around. They don't encourage kids to go to MUN, other science fairs etc. Teachers are not helping kids to go and attend programs outside of school.

We love Nobel MS. I believe that this school is filled with really good teachers that are knowledgeable and care about their students success. They really prepare the kids for high school. Office staff is caring and respond very quickly to any matter and the Principal is one the best I've ever seen run a middle school. Also the PTSA is very well organized and get a lot done for the school. Nobel is really the best!

The special ed program at this school is TERRIBLE. I can't wait for my child to graduate this year. This school does not take bullying **from their own teachers** seriously, yet they preach about their anti-bullying policies. One of the IEP teachers in particular is extremely rude and impatient with he students. She should not be teaching. I feel sorry for any student that might end up in her class and experience the psychological abuse that she puts her students through. Your child will probably have a better experience at this school if they are not in IEP.

One of my child's teachers is a total bully. I have heard so many other parents complain about they way this teacher treats the IEP students. She humiliates the students in front of the rest of the class. My child has mentioned that she makes their classmates cry. to the point where they cry. I have complained to the school about this issue before but they haven't done anything. The rest of my child's teachers are friendly and actually have the patience to teach young kids.

Absolutely not! Like I previously mentioned, there are teachers at this school who RIDICULE the special ed students. I have mentioned this to the head of the special ed department along with other parents many times. The school has never done anything to help. This school claims to have strict "anti-bullying" rules but they do not enforce them at all. I don't know how any student could feel comfortable being in a classroom where their teacher might insult them in from of their classmates for getting a bad grade.

When there is no consistent implementation of positive approaches to learning even across the same grade level & subject, this rating is directed to the teachers who DO NOT add value to the foundational learning and well-being of their students. Because these teachers are tolerated by the administration, I am rating this school ineffective for this reason.

There are teachers in this school who places more importance on "policies" than your teenager's foundational learning and well-being. Mind you, those policies are antiquated & are promoting negative practices with unintended consequences to students. They perceive low test scores as your student's weakness, when in fact there could be a myriad reasons why a consistently A student suddenly gets low test scores. Quality of math textbook is a very big problem in this school to support the demands of the Common Core Curriculum. You have to rely on how good the teacher supplements the students & how good they keep the students engaged in the learning process. Consider yourself very lucky if you get the GOOD teachers. Don't forget to thank them. If you get the bad ones, you will not get much help unless you escalate the issue forcefully. It is stressful and frustrating! No more the best Middle School in the valley.

Homework should be limited to an average of 20 minutes per subject. Quality, not quantity of homework will be very helpful for students to solidify their understanding on the subject matter and work towards mastery of standards. There are GOOD teachers in this school that give a reasonable amount of homework, but because there are really bad ones, they destroy this school's previously good reputation.

This is my child 2nd year in their SAS Program. She has had two teachers who use shaming like ridicule, classroom embarrassment, refusing to answer questions, to manage their student s and when her performance dropped as a result all they did was fail her. I never asked during the SAS Tour how many GATE Certified teachers are in each subject area and it isn't advertised on their website . The SAS administrator ignored what our child was put through. We are past the point of moving her to another school next year and she doesn't want to leave her friends.
Currently I am ashamed of this school. I am happy to come back here if the situation changes with an updated rating.

We just finished Nobel this past June. SAS was a wonderful program and believe me...it was NOT easy. It was very challenging, lots of late nights and weekends, projects and homework. I agree that sometimes the teachers can be difficult, but now that we will start high school I'm actually on board with it. It helps prepare for that next step.

This was the worst year for my son, who just finished 7th grade at Nobel. He started the year with great self esteem, and eagerness to learn. He was actually happy about the dress code, and prided himself in looking great and ready to participate in school. By the end of the year, his academics declined precipitously, became depressed, and felt completely disempowered to succeed in his classes. The Honors English class, taught by Mrs. Yu, was inappropriately difficult and confusion, and this teacher, among others, was highly insensitive, uncaring, demoralizing, and incredibly difficult to communicate with. The administrative staff was not helpful, and literally did not step in all year, even as we expressed concerns about our son's progressive lack of interest and academic progress. You would think that they would jump in and rescue this beautiful, bright, talented young boy, but instead they ignored all the signs all year. As parents, it's hard to navigate and really evaluate how a child is doing and what exactly they need to succeed when things are not going well. Despite our best efforts, our experience this year at Nobel was a complete disaster, and we will be searching this summer for a better learning environment for our awesome son.

Nobel is probably the best middle school in the entire LAUSD. It has some of the highest test scores. The principal and rest of the administration are very approachable. It has a very involved PTSA. Teachers all around the District would love to transfer to Nobel, but few get the opportunity because there is very little turnover of teachers because they very rarely leave except to retire.

Overall, I am very disappointed with Nobel. Some of the administration seem very unprofessional at best. I came in to drop off my child's homework and the staff was discussing discipline problems of specific children at the front desk. I think this would be best handled privately, not in front of other parents and children. My child used to love school. She now hates it. She hated all but one of her "wheel" electives and the councilors have said that they can't change the electives. One of the counselors even said that they don't call those classes "electives" anymore. As an end result, my husband and I are seriously looking into private schools for next year.

This is not our home school. I have 3 children who have attended Nobel over the past 6 years (Magnet & SAS). It has a big population with about 50% being honors' students. Nobel prepares its students well for high school. None of my 3 children have been bullied at Nobel; however, I have heard about some bullying (but, unfortunately, you will find some at every middle school). Outside academics, Nobel continues to have fantastic music and drama departments; both very large and impressive programs. There are several after school activities for all and some really great electives for the 7th and 8th graders. I, personally, don't see much of a change between pre-charter and now, other than a separate lunch period for the 6th graders, instead of one for the whole school, and a new dress code policy. If parents take the time to connect with their child's teachers, come to an occasional PTA meeting and sit in on one of the monthly Charter Council meetings, they will see how much more is going on towards educating and preparing its students for high school. Visit the school's website, online calendar, come to a drama or music performance, Open House, and check it out for yourself!

This school went Charter a few years ago. What people say about Charter Schools is true. This gave more flexibility to spend funds on programs to reduce class sizes. PE is still overcrowded and not as safe as a smaller class size many injuries have happened as a result. Parents are getting more informed and involved. There are a lot of kids at this school, so it's easy for kids needs and abilities to be overlooked. There's a lot that still needs fixing. There is only one office staff worker that is rude / out of line, the other ones are fine. The PTA is ok. They do the minimum. Administration could be changed, because again, they do the minimum. Teachers are the reason for this school. Band and Drama would be the reason to go to this school. A 1 star school that could be so much more with the right people in charge.

About 5yrs. ago I would have rated this school 5stars, but now it is just like all the other LAUSD schools! It is being made to conform and losing what made it stand out. I have 2 sons who've culminated from there, and a son and a daughter that currently attend. I am now taking my 6th grader out to homeschool him because he is sincerely unhappy with the staff. His teachers are constantly yelling, unapproachable, and full of negativity. His grades have dropped and his confidence is all but gone. The only class he enjoys is PE and that is because he is a very athletic individual. My daughter tells me she is used to all the yelling and just ignores it. She is just getting by and does not wish to leave her friends, but I don't think she will attend for 8th grade at all. LAUSD and the administration need to focus on caring about the kids and not the bottom line/test scores. My child is not a "policy".

My 8th grade son and I were discussing how often middle school is such a difficult transition for kids. He was accepted to Nobel through the Magnet program. In 6th grade since there are two teachers for four subjects with all the same kids they all get to know each other well which has been very helpful for him. Through the years most of his teachers have been wonderful with a few that have been difficult for him, but have grown him in ways that will help him in the future. Nobel has a great reputation that is well deserved. We love the principal and the staff. If you are thinking about this school for your child, I would say to check it out. Now we are looking into different high schools! Time flies so do your research, think about each of your children individually, make sure your child is part of the decision making process since they are the ones that will have to buy in! My daughter is attending Nobel middle school and it's her first year here !! We were very excited because she was accepted .. And we heard it was one of the best schools in the valley ! But the teachers are so bitter and the school staff they treat kids very bad my daughter cried for 2 weeks at the beginning she wouldn't get anybody to help her get her locker unjammed instead the student store dispatcher was very mean !! But she is learning I think they do need to re staff with new happy people !!

I was so excited for my child to attend Nobel, but now I just can't wait for him to be done! Besides Mr. Horosney, who is now the Dean and a very patient caring man who is able to connect with the kids, all the other staff (administration, office, teachers) are just rude and mean to the students. They yell and demean them if they do not understand. If your child is not male and not a perfect A student, Nobel is not for you! Teachers in most cases seem tired of teaching and do not bend to the various learning styles of the students. "Learn my way or don't learn at all" should be their school moto! Don't be fooled by their 'old' shining reputation, Nobel needs to be 're-staffed' with caring, patient, 'in touch' staff (administration, office and most importantly teachers)!

Alfred Nobel school is great school. This is the 1st year my daughter attended this school but she love it. The teaching is great and thorought and I like the dress code policy. I'am very impress with this school. I send my daughter to private school before I did not know that this school, just a corner away from our home was one of the best to send my child.

Nobel Charter Middle School provides a superb learning environment for the students, as well as many extracurricular activities. The Leadership teacher & students offer many fun activities for the entire student body all year long. The parents and staff work well together in providing areas for parent involvement to support their student's learning. The staff are very caring of the students. I would highly recommend this school!

This amazing school raises the bar on education. As a parent, I was very nervous about sending my child to middle school. Nobel has a special way of dealing with the sixth graders that made the transition very easy for my child. There is so much help for the students available at Nobel that if a student begins to falter, they are given the opportunity to pull themselves up. Nobel has great drama and music departments, great teachers and staff and the PTSA is so welcoming to new parents. There are many great elective opportunities at Nobel including Leadership, Yearbook, Peer Mediation, Marine Biology and the list goes on. The teachers, staff and programs that are available at this school keep the students excited about learning. Although Nobel is a very large school, it functions much like a small, close knit community. We would not want our child to attend school anywhere else.

I think this school is better than most private schools,the programs and clubs are wonderful and the teachers my child had were loving, considerate and professional. I attended this school a few years back and I pretty much hated it. The teachers didn't genuinely care for the students. The academics weren't too great. The lunches were absolutely disgusting. However, the campus was nice and I clean, and the principle was really enthusiastic.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this school! My child is an incoming 6th grader. I admit that I was initially concerned about the size of the school (2400 students) and the open campus, but after visiting the school at all hours during the school day, I feel that the school is very safe. My child has also thrived at the school and is on the Principal's Honor role and recently was accepted to the Leadership team. My child is in Honors classes andI have been very pleased with the teachers. The teachers challenge the students and give homework almost every night but it is not overwhelming. I'm also involved with the PTA and have volunteered at various events. In these roles, I have observed the Principal, Assistant Principal and other Administrators. They are very friendly, approachable, caring and very knowledgeable. I HIGHLY recommend this school. Why pay for a private school when your child can get an amazing education at Nobel.

I think that this school is horrible because I have asked my friends son who goes there and he said that he has a teacher named Ms.Calle who is so terrible and mean that he said I rather be home schooled than to stay at that school. It is a mystery how and why the principal would keep such an ignorant teacher on his staff. Another thing he told me that really frightened me was that he would rather get hit by a car and live with two broken arms, and two broken for one year than to spend another week with her. If there are any concerned parents reading this I want you to reply to this school and say what you think about it.

Not happy at this school!!!!! I was so excited to go to Nobel but now that I do I HATE IT!! Just like last year most of my teachers are mean and they don't seem to care if you pass or not. Matter of fact my teachers have told me they don't care. Why are they teachers ? They have ruined me!!! :'(
