As a parent of an autistic child, I had concerns about this school environment from the beginning, particularly regarding structure, support, student behavior, and how students with disabilities are treated socially and emotionally.

Recently, my son reported repeated teasing from another student involving comments about him being autistic. He also shared that he informed staff previously and felt the issue was not addressed. After a separate recess incident involving another student and a basketball being thrown hard enough to hurt him, I felt it was important to advocate more strongly for his safety and emotional well-being.

I understand no school is perfect and children can have conflicts anywhere, but as a parent, I did not feel confident that this environment was the best fit for my child’s needs. My experience left me concerned about supervision, social-emotional support, and responsiveness to bullying concerns involving students with disabilities.

Every child deserves to feel safe, respected, supported, and protected at school. For families considering this school, especially families with children who have IEPs, autism, or sensory/social support needs, I strongly encourage asking detailed questions about how disability-related teasing, bullying concerns, and student support are handled on campus.

Ultimately, I decided to pursue a different educational environment that I believe will provide more structure, support, and accountability for my son.

Each of my daughters went here for a year. In the time I was there I have witnessed such a dis function not only with the school system but this school being the stepchild of the district. The teachers go unprovided for. Even though the school has title one status due to low income students. The school is unable to utilize those funds because the child care causes for the school to have low attendance so the district then takes the money and gives it to the schools that have higher attendance schools in wealthier areas without a childcare on site, a childcare which goes to serve families from lower incomes. The irony. I know this because I served on the school board that year. I learned a lot about what happens behind closed doors when it comes to tax payer money funding schools. This is why this school remains with such a low score. It’s makes the district their money from the state but doesn’t give the money back to the students.

Don’t even get me on the students. The students are rude and violent and the teachers don’t have much recourse these days for handling those kinds of children other than to notify the parents. So expect your children to get physically abused on the playground. I lived near by and drive by every day. On several occasions I’ve witnessed a little girl being punched in the face and kicked in the stomach repeatedly. The teachers were behind the structure where they could not see. I had to make a report to the school. None the less this school needs more staff and more resources and inclusion of the families it serves. This school is winning no awards any time soon. My step daughter during the first week of the school was attacked by a boy which on the first day was suspended for stealing . When the boy returned he attacked her unprovoked punching her multiple times in the stomach until a fellow student stopped him . The staff did not see the incident but had her go to the nurse . The school called us and left a message about the incident so when we called back they were clueless about the incident and said everything was fine she was in class. When she was picked up by her mother she told her what happened and we were enraged with the miscommunication and disorganization by the staff. We talked to the principal the following school day . We arrived to the admin building and its a mad house stacks of paper everywhere just so disorganized .The principal was unprepared and left us feeling uneasy of their ability to handle the situation. We informed the principal of the horrible reputation the school had and the principal try to convince us things are different . When the principal left she turned and asked what's our daughters name . I was infuriated and immediately went to the district office to request transfer. I placed request for transfer and it took 3 weeks they had no follow up promises of calling back. I went back to district for the third time and demanded to talk to highest person in charge. They said H. Allen was not doing their part of the paperwork to push the transfer it just sat on a desk for weeks. We finally got the transfer to Witter ranch and you can see the difference in Organization and structure.

Now that the school has had time to develop its staff and vision, and have gone thru the rigorous accreditation process to become an IB world school I rate it 8/10

The teachers use the IB profiles to teach students social skills. They use stories, units, and curriculum to develop the whole child.

H. Allen Hight is an IB World School. All students have access to the IB units and take Spanish class. The teachers and staff work hard to ensure all students needs are met. They have a fun jog-a-thon, harvest festival, and grand lunch/book fair. I recommend this school.

While at H. Allen Hight, I had the pleasure to work with a team of hard-working and innovative teachers and staff dedicated to creating the best learning environment for their kids. The principal, Ms. Carlstrom, is always available to parents and staff to provide support, feedback, and accountability, and I think her leadership will have a large, positive impact on the future of Hight as she engages with the community and staff to ensure students are reaching their full potential as learners and citizens.

This school is wonderful! The teachers work hard to ensure the children are motivated and excited about education. Under the guidance of their dynamic principal of seven years, they're implementing an I.B. based curriculum. Safe,bright students, well rounded future leaders learn here.

I was nervous because of the bad reviews but I gave it a chance and I'm glad I did. The school is big, nice and clean, the small kids are separate from the big ones. The principal is strict and I think that's exactly what the kids need. My daughter has learned a lot this year and she loves her teacher and classmates. If I could, I would change the way people drive around the school but I don't think the school deserves a bad review because of the way that irresponsible people behave.

Awful school, horrible teachers, administrators and school district. Child safety is not a priority at this school. Good class room control, but students and parents are out of control on the playground, and outside of school. Don't let the nice neighborhood fool you.

H Allen Hight Elementary is an excellent school. They have made great improvements since opening as do all schools. The staff, teachers and principal are dedicated and hardworking. We love it here. Remember folks, you get what you give. I rated parent involvement just two stars because few seem to do the work for the many. But every year gets better! Please volunteer!
