My son attends ECMS-Gardena, we truly love the school. The teachers are always professional, prepared, and willing to help their students succeed. I especially appreciate how involved the principal is in everything happening on campus. What stands out the most tome is the strong support system and the clear communication the school provides to both students and parents. We are very grateful to be part of this community.

As a parent of a 6th grader at ECMS, I can honestly say we’ve had a wonderful experience so far. My son feels comfortable in his learning environment and challenged academically. His 6th grade teachers have been amazing! They are supportive, engaging, and truly invested in their students’ growth.

The school does an incredible job building school spirit and creating a strong sense of community. The principal and staff clearly work hard to promote not only pride in being an ECMS student, but also responsibility as stewards of the community and the environment. There’s a genuine culture of uplifting one another, rooting for others’ success, and emphasizing positive behavior.

Communication from the school and teachers has been excellent. We receive weekly updates on grades and behavior, and I especially appreciate that these reports highlight positive behaviors and growth. It helps keep us informed and reinforces the school’s focus on encouragement and accountability.

On top of that, there are so many fun events throughout the year that my son has truly enjoyed. ECMS has created an environment where students feel connected, supported, and proud to be part of the school.

We are very grateful for the experience so far.

My daughter has attended since 6th grade and she’s currently an 8th grader. I have seen tremendous growth in her, both academically and personally, and I truly appreciate the safe and nurturing environment the school has provided. The rigorous academic workload has challenged her to excel, while the social-emotional support has equipped her with valuable life skills.

Beyond the classroom, she has had the chance to expand her learning through field trips that have pushed her beyond her comfort zone, helping her grow as an individual. She has also become involved in school clubs and even had the honor of serving as a school ambassador. For the most part, her teachers have played a significant role in her success, allowing her to thrive in their classrooms. I also appreciate the strong communication between the school and parents. I regularly receive updates from teachers and the principal, whether they are celebrating her achievements or addressing any concerns. This open line of communication has been invaluable in keeping me informed and engaged in her education.

One challenge my daughter has faced, which I know the school is actively working on, is ensuring that all students feel a strong sense of belonging and inclusion. I understand this is an ongoing challenge in many schools but I appreciate the effort being made to bridge the gap and promote a culture of belonging for all students and create a welcoming environment where every student feels valued.

We love ECMS Gardena. The teachers are wonderful. Administration is fantastic! The school keeps families in the loop, which is not the case with most middle schools. We are very happy with the opportunities that are available to our child who attends ECMS.

I was very excited for my daughter to attend ECMS due to the extra curriculum subjects that other schools don't offer that help students understand the changes in life they are going through. What I don't like is the constant racial discrimination that is not taken seriously because the school does not believe in suspension or expulsion, the sexually lude comments and acts. I had to write the funded and contact LACOE with a complaint for the school to pretend to handle the situation 37 days lver. My child is uncomfortable, feels unsafe and for things to change I had to do extra steps that still did not involve the school assisting me. Teachers pretend not to see or hear things so they don't have to deal with negative actions towards students ... The staff is the reason the school is going to always be lacking in the percentage of any other race besides Hispanic ... Because they are not concerned with building character and decent adults they are more concerned with pacifying.. which means they are not a college bound school because in college sexual assault, racial slurs and physical assault are all expilsionary acts.

The Teachers keep parents informed on how their child is doing in school. And the Principal is quick to ensure parents are informed when anything happens at the school. My son is happy and thriving in school.

Really happy with this past school year for my son. He has engaged and the teachers and staff are amazing. They truly care and have helped him transition into 6th grade during the covid distance learning successfully and he actually enjoys class. Surprised it’s rated so low, it’s a gem in Gardena for a middle school for sure!

It is clear that the whole teaching team strive to build real life projects for the students to explore in groups and individually. To explore effectively student understand that they must tap into and use skills from all academic disciplines.

Big emphasis on composition, reading and math. But must give history a greater place and science!

Posted: November 20, 2014

My daughter was a student at ECMS. She had a positive experience. The projects are especially impressive. They manage to connect English, history, math and science and the students do some amazing things. There is always a presentation and students are encouraged to come watch. It's true the school doesn't have a nurse, as a previous poster mentioned, but I don't believe there have been broken legs! There is a playground, which the school community built as part of a grant. The students use it a lot and are encourage to be kids and not grow up too fast. Field trips are cool, too. The neighborhood may not be the safest, but the campus is fenced in and has a security gate. I think if you ask the students, they feel really safe on campus, since the teachers and staff do a good job handling student disagreements. The teachers stay with the same kids from 6th to 7th grade, so they know your child really well, and there is a full time counselor. I always feel safe parking on the street and walking in the neighborhood.

My school is really cheap, cant even afford a nurse, and the kids are really bad, with a bad neighborhood gang around called G-13 aka Gardena 13. The kids have a playground and many kids already hurt themselves playing on the playground some broke their arms, others broke their legs, etc.

This is a lovely school, in a brand new facility, with caring teachers, and active administrators. The curriculum is challenging but the homework is reasonable and it is properly tailored to learning outcomes (not merely busy work). The trimester benchmark examinations are a veritable feat of multidisciplinary engagement; parents are encouraged to attend and watch their kids solve complicated problems that challenge their math, science, history, and language arts skills all at the same time. Students are polite and the discipline system serves up natural consequences while focusing on the value of communication. My daughter is very happy here--and we drive from a "Blue Ribbon Distinguished" school district to make sure that she continues to be a happy, challenged, and engaged student.

ECMS is in it's 3rd year and is thriving. I have 2 kids enrolled and they both love the school. They are about to move to the permanent location in Gardena and are very excited. The curriculum challenges them to think and problem solve in a "learn by doing" setting. Very innovative !
