High Tech Middle Chula Vista School

I actually used to attend this school and didn’t really enjoy it. It is a really happy school with a nice environment. However I never felt seen at this school this school was created to help students with slower learning pace and students who Struggle to stay still. I was one of the few female students in my class there were 6 girls and 21 boys, once one of my teachers made a remark about how our school is often a place where parents send there’s misbehaving boys. I always held good grades because of how easy the material was. This school is also not the befor quiet students they will go unnoticed in this loud environment and the school says they help build up public speaking skills but students are often just thrown in front of a group unknowing of what to say.

This school does nothing to prepare middle school children for college. It falls far below the terrible California public schools.

The majority of teachers are new teachers and lack the experience to connect with the children.

My student went to High Tech Middle School for two years. Please don’t buy into the High Tech myth. The school is low tech and puts students way behind children in public school. The projects the classes do don’t measure up to typical learning in even the worst public schools. The school sells itself on how a high percentage of their graduates go to college. Just beware they include junior college in those statistics. If you have a good student do not do them the injustice of going to High Tech. High Tech is a good example of why some want to do away with Charter Schools. I know if you win the lottery to get you will be excited like I was but please learn from me don’t do it. Sure your child will get good grades (because it’s easy) but in the long run the damage can be hard to over come in college.

Having been at this school for a few years now, it consistently amazes me how a school can run with an absent Director. There are parents that don't even know who the director is or what she looks like. If someone is so averse to connecting with or talking to parents, I don't think that this is the position for them. Anytime I have had a question or needed information it has been the job of everyone else from the person at the front to the teachers to keep the director out of it. I am aware of quite a few parents that have tried to speak with her regarding their children and she does not return phone calls or emails. It appears that the teachers are left to do what they would like. My child has come home a number of times and let me know that the work is too easy and there is no challenge. When I have attempted to approach the teacher or director, I am in no uncertain terms dismissed. It would be nice for someone to let me know if there is something I have overlooked or don't understand. I know I am not alone in feeling this way because I have spoken with many parents and their statements mirror my own. It is as if we are being told that as parents we do not know what is right for our child/children the staff knows better and does not need to explain or answer any questions. What a shame because I had heard very positive things about this school and their method of teaching. My child will not be returning along with other high achieving students

I do feel the school does a good job of developing honesty and integrity in it's students. As for fairness it does not appear to. Students are all placed in the same classroom there are no special classes. The issue becomes that even though the teachers and staff say that all students are held to the same standards of behavior, the students with special needs are definitely not held to the same standards as all that others. Unfortunately the students are told everyone is treated the same, but when there is a discipline/behavior issue students are held to different standards. I do understand this as an adult, but students tend to feel that there is favoritism due to the rhetoric being different from what is actually implemented. If the staff were to acknowledge this the students would be much better equipped to handle various situation.

Teachers and the principal are awesome, my two children love the school and they are very happy with the school! I am so happy that my kids were able to get in to the schools. They teach the children a lot in such a little time. The skills that they learn in this school are amazing ! Every day our kids learn more and more and they LOVE IT! I like the Idea where parents can get involved in our children education! Thanks HTH for been such a wonderful School!

All I can say is that it was a big disappointment having my child at this school. Her grades were good but she was not challenged at ALL ! Basic math, basic everything. I feel like because it's hard to get in, we as parents feel like we need to oversee the deficiencies of the school.

My child's first year at High Tech Middle was positive - not perfect. If you have a child who is excelling in a subject, they may not be as challenged as they normally would in a traditional public school, but they will gain other skills. My child struggled working with others whose personalities are different than his, but that can be a good lesson. He always commented on how much he enjoyed his teachers, and how happy they are. The staff works as a team, and the HUB is great! I wish every school could have a wonderful after school program. I wish the schools would work together, and the communication between the staff and parents was more consistent. With such a small student body, they should take advantage of having parent support/participation (fundraising) and the children learning from each other.
