This school is a total mess. They are unorganized, not responsive, slow to act, provide incorrect information, make false promises and ultimately wasted our student's opportunity to take an extra course this summer. They admit to having staffing shortages and a lack of employee training. I strongly advise you to look elsewhere for your online schooling needs.

High Bluff Academy is a fantastic small private high school located in beautiful Rancho Santa Fe, California. My husband took a Spanish summer class over 20 years ago and he still remembers how well the course was structured and the great organization of the school overall. Today, High Bluff Academy still does a magnificent job serving students in San Diego by offering a wide range of after school classes, Test prep, AP classes and is also a full time High School! I have been an educator at High Bluff for years and I love the chance to teach such small group classes and tailor each one of my classes according to each student's needs. The students have the chance to develop great bonds with their classmates and teachers because the average class size is five students! I would highly recommend this school to any parent looking for a better alternative to large public schools.

Not a safe space for women of color: I taught for 6 months at this campus & was treated unfairly by new management when I reported harassment & discrimination.
My qualifications were questioned even though I proved that I followed curriculum.
I did not feel supported as an educator & I'm disappointed by the cruelty lack of empathy by both students and staff when I expressed concern about my safety and wellbeing.
Being called slurs and expected to take it in stride is not my ideal working environment -- especially when coupled with new leadership calling into question my ability and acumen.
I have a stellar reputation and track record working with AP students who achieve high scores on their exams, but at High Bluff, that was repeatedly called into question. My background and experience were repeatedly challenged and it felt targeted and personal, especially after I was called names and reported it.
It was hurtful and damaging to my personhood & often my experiences were invalidated. I'm deeply saddened that this happened to me & I hope it never happens to anyone again, student or staff.

Every day I spent in HBA was unique and always fun. All teachers were not just professionals in their fields, they were a great support throughout these years. High Bluff Academy offers strong academic courses that help students like me to achieve their goals. Learning has been always enjoyable as in the HBA there is no such thing as a "stupid question" you might ask and feel embarrassed. I always felt productive and never left behind the school material in the environment of this school. High Bluff Academy gave me the best high school experience I could have!

I can't say enough about this little school. My son takes AP classes here a la carte, and he loves it. The class sizes are so small, the students develop great bonds with one another and the teachers. The students are international, studious, kind and caring. The teachers are just amazing--they have graduate degrees and a huge love of their subject matters and their students. When the local schools closed down on a Friday due to COVID, High Bluff was fully operating on line by Tuesday morning. And they recognized that this was a time that students needed connection and learning more than ever, so they canceled spring break. My son feels completely supported by this school, and looks forward to every class. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny.

High Bluff Academy is an amazing school with great leadership that can provide your student with a transformative educational experience and set them on a path to success. Dedicated learning community, small classes, welcoming environment for students and their families. Faculty is highly engaged with students and passionate about teaching while watching students achieve their goals and become thoughtful citizens. Community service and leadership is encouraged. Our son is thriving in college as a finance major and was extremely well prepared. Many of his classmates have been accepted to selective universities with merit scholarships. I highly recommend this private school to any family looking to help their student learn, grow, discover, and prepare themselves for the road ahead.

My daughters experience at High Bluff Academy has been amazing. The teachers are fantastic and offer a level of support that is rare to find. The teachers truly want the students to succeed and make learning interesting and fun, not stressful and overehelming. Jill has created and environment where all students are supported and nurtured to be the best that they can be. They work around the kids schedules at Torrey Pines, which makes it possible for a seamless schedule this further reducing stress. We are truly grateful to Jill and the entire staff for providing a true gift to students.

My son was really struggling at the large public school in our neighborhood. He is very bright but was not able to focus due to the large class size. He had a lot of anxiety about going to school and was not connecting with any of his teachers. He transferred to High Bluff Academy in the beginning of 11th grade and it was the best decision we ever made. He loved all of his teachers and was inspired to work hard and get good grades. The caring, family type atmosphere was very welcoming. Although he had not excelled in math or science at previous schools, he was very inspired by his teachers at High Bluff and now he is a junior in college majoring in Microbiology and wants to go on to a PhD program and become a genetics researcher. I never would have dreamed that his life would turn around so dramatically just by changing schools. His success and self-confidence today would not have been possible without High Bluff Academy.
