My kids love this school! My youngest started in Kinder (TK was done at Carson elementary), now in 1st grade, and my other daughter started halfway in 1st grade, now in 3rd grade and they never refuse to go to school. Sure, when they were younger they did, but once they made friends they always looked forward to going to school. The teachers are phenomenal, Mrs. Morales, Mr. Ackerman, Mr. Gonzalez have been their teachers so far, and they have exceeded our expectations as educators. Ms. Janet (the school psychologist), Ms. Felicity (ed specialist), Ms. Deyling (Art & gardening) the afterschool crew: Mr. JP, Mr. Aceves and all the others have also contributed to our kids socio-emotional and academic success. Our 3rd grader has a 504 plan for her ADHD, and the evaluations were completed in a timely manner. We chose this school because learning a second language is very important to us, and I love that it has opened another world of opportunities for them. Also before & after school, plus summer camp are all free! Mrs. Brown and her admin staff Ms. Ruiz, Ms. Yanheli, & Ms. Brenda work tirelessly to ensure the school's success, and it shows!

Our daughter is now attending her second year at Empower Language Academy (1st Grade) and we keep getting amazed by how well organized the school is. Also, they have created such a great culture. There is a sense of a community, and we feel we belong there. Not just for the kids, but for the parents too. We are proud to say that our daughter is going to Empower; the school is well organized, provides a great education, and it feels like family. Every time we drop off our daughter, we are super confident she is in good hands. Every time we see one of Empower employees, we feel like we have known each other for a long time, and everyone always has a positive attitude. The drop off and pick up super well organized, everything runs smoothly, is very safe, and efficient. We would also like to express our positive experience with the after-school program, our daughter enjoys it so much. In summary, it is a great school with great teachers and staff, and we are lucky to send our child there.

Empower Language Academy was an an easy choice for us to make. The class sizes are smaller than average. The fitness program was one of the best options in San Diego in our opinion. Our student is worn out at the end of each day. Empower fosters a wonderful community even though this isn't a "neighborhood school." Students come from all over the city to be educated here. We consider ourselves lucky to be part of the Empower family. Now that they have found their forever home, we are even more pleased to watch the school continue to do great things for their families.

Terrible, principal and assistant principal seems so unfriendly. It's scary. Their fitness coach does not know how to work with kids and screams at them.

They don't really give homework. They basically say read at home, which I believe every student should be doing anyways.

The teacher for our kid was amazing before and then it seems like the administration got to her and she is now becoming mellow.
Posted: December 27, 2018
Not for my kid. This only works for a few students that the administration likes.
Posted: December 27, 2018
While they seems to do some things right, for the most our kid have not had the best of time. She is constantly crying and not wanting to go to school. She had told us she wants to go to a different school.

My kids have had an amazing experience. I give this place two thumbs up for their dedicated professionals, innovative educational approaches and emphasis on being a caring problem solver.

Reading, in the long run, makes the most difference. Encouraging the love of engaging with good reads is important and reflected in their homework policy. Math is done at school with professionals trained in delivering instruction in the matter. It makes most sense.
Posted: January 31, 2018
The dedication demonstrated by the schools' teachers is evident in the bonds my kids have developed with their teachers. They engage in professional development as a routine part of their work-life. When I go into a classroom, I see text-rich environments and students engaged in hands-on learning.

Character education permeates the school's program from their 'trait of the month' activities' to their consistent school wide behavior management system to their discipline and restorative justice practices.

Spanish is a second language for my daughter and to notice her vocabulary increasing and willingness to use Spanish privately not in the classroom setting is Incredible! I know the teaching has a huge impact on her.

Empower Charter School has a character education program. We teach children character through regular class meetings and have a school-wide character focus each month. Children participate in a cross-age "buddy" program that allows them to mentor younger students.

We have something very special at Empower Charter School, and I know that it is because of these 3 things:
1. Strong Partnership -Parents & teachers work as teammates in education. Parents volunteer and there is strong home-to-school communication.
2. Safety - Children feel safe in our small, caring school community and are taught leadership/character skills.
3. Quality - Our teachers are top-notch and go above-and-beyond in designing engaging learning experiences for our students. They tutor those who need extra help.
All of this exists because we are all aligned in our vision to empower our students to become healthy global leaders!
What an honor to be part of the Empower Charter School family and serve the Linda Vista community.
Yours in service,
Demi Brown

My son is in kindergarten. He is not a native Spanish speaker but is learning a lot every day, so am I. As parents we are getting educated too since the children receive weekly a list with words that start with the letter they are learning that week. The children bring an item to show each week and our goal is to find an item that starts with that letter but is not on the list. The PE is great, a cross-fit teacher get the children active 2 x week, one parent has the kids running on Friday and the teachers provide exercise between lessons on a daily base. My son is getting speech therapy at school, and extra Spanish after school to get him up to speed with native Spanish speakers. I am happy with this school and plan to enroll my youngest when he is old enough too.

I love that communication is open between the parents and the school staff. I know the people that work with both of my kids. It truly is a community that is helping raise my kids. My kids are bringing home amazing grades, memories, and experience that they can only get at a school with teachers that legitimately care for them. The teachers never cease to amaze me!

Dear Parents, We are very excited about the upcoming school year and our team is hard at work building a high-quality educational program. We have partnered with the University of San Diego and other organizations to get volunteers in the classroom and maintain small class sizes. Research supports our Spanish Immersion program as a highly effective program for both English and Spanish-speaking children (studies show both groups meet or outperform their peers on standardized tests). We have Office Hours every Tuesday at the Linda Vista Boys & Girls Club from 4-6pm. Stop by to learn more about our school and meet me. With Students First, Demi Brown
