This high school offers a great balance of challenging academics and a wide variety of things to do outside the classroom. Its size is a huge plus, allowing for a broad range of AP, Honors, and Cambridge International courses that let students dive into college-level work early. Along with specialized electives you won't often find at smaller schools.

Sadly this school was an extreme disappointment. Parents in the neighborhood think their kids are getting some great education just because of the neighborhood. I found that not to be the case and we ended up moving. The teachers and curriculum are not committed to academics.

Both of my children have gone to school here. Academically, there are lots of great opportunities. Neither were involved in sports, but I have plenty of friends and acquaintances whose children had wonderful experiences. I was happy to see the teachers are dedicated to academics and not politics or pushing agendas. I know my children are ready for college or for working in the real world because they are well rounded with history, science, math and writing/reading wise.

Dont be fooled by the awards and material things this school presents you with. You cannot change the culture at this school. While some teachers are outstanding, and have a true passion for teaching and caring for the kids, others are lazy and unprofessional. There is little to no fairness. Administration clearly favors certain kids based on their social standing or the extra curricular activities they are in. Sports such as volleyball and baseball are favored more than any activity in the entire school- these are the kids that rarely face punishment (especially VB girls when it comes to dress code). This school has very smart kids, and in turn these kids get into stellar schools. Because of these achievements, the rude and disgusting behavior seen by these kids are often overlooked. This school needs to get a grip on their values, and the behavior seen in their student body. I gave 1 star for the select staff members that truly want what is best for the students and go above and beyond to accomplish that. I would have given 0 stars if it were possible. Anyways, I suggest putting your kid in ANY other school. It is a beautiful campus and has many gems, but the culture seen in both students and staff is disappointing.

I like Redondo Union High compared to other schools my son attended in the past. He likes it very much. I have communicated with Teachers and Counselors over the period of time. They are very responsive and follow through. They help and coach my son. Also They let me know if they see any issues. Always they are willing to offer any help. Ms.McKie and Ms.Straight went above and beyond!

The school tolerates white nationalist hate speech and islamophobia. When students speak out against it, they are punished but the students who are racist are not.

My son just graduated from RUHS June-2015 and I would have to say the school is excellent all around. The staff and students are all wonderful and supportive of each other. It's a progressive and diverse school that embraces all. Academics and Sports programs are top notch. I am glad my son went to RUHS. It's a beautiful campus that almost looks like a resort. All the construction is completed (I think) and looks wonderful.

Well, it's hard to believe that 4 years have come and gone for our student. During that time, the campus was largely unavailable in part due to noisy, dirty construction that ran over budget and behind schedule. That was probably an RBUSD district problem, and not the fault of RUHS, none the less, it made the campus hard academically with high noise, limited access, no lunch room, etc. A number of teachers retired, likely due to the new local management who had a focus on rah-rah, photo opportunities, pep rallies, and the like and didn't care about academics. This caused issues as you can well imagine and many teachers of retirement ability voted and left. The current principal and her staff and little experience and that's coming through loud and clear with the students in their grumblings. Perhaps the worst outcome of the new "management" was the poor placement of students in the UCs and CSUs this year. Based on our parent groups, it was one of the worst years ever, with far more students having to resort to community colleges or very expensive private schools and school loans. Overall, RUHS really is failing our students, especially compared to prior years.

I am a graduate of Redondo, which focuses more on aesthetics and athletics than academics. I can honestly say that I had three fantastic teachers at Redondo who taught me most of what I learned while I was there. The rest were terrible. Many should have been fired for incompetence. No one notices this because the state of California continues lowering academic standards. Because Redondo sits comfortably above the 80th percentile, few question the teachers. I personally witnessed many counts of unprofessional behavior and was intimidated or scolded by teachers on more than one occasion for asking difficult questions or trying to foster deliberation. Many teachers grade subjectively. Grade inflation is common, as is punishing students who speak out. Some teachers propagandized students or openly ridiculed specific ideologies unrelated to the class. If my family had more disposable income, I would have tested out for my GED and enrolled at the community college. Not only would I have had more college credits, but I wouldn't have been forced to waste 4 years of my life. My experiences at Redondo have convinced me to invest in private schooling for my future children.

The campus is beautiful. It has lots of room although, it can be confusing at times but once you're there for about 3 days, you get the hang of it or so. The school seems to mainly focus on athletics and not academics. We have a good girls' volleyball team but when it comes to math and science, I am sure it could be much better. Teachers are there for their students, they stay after school to help them out. It's overcrowded and students are messy. I still love RUHS, though. Go Seahawks!

This is a school that pays more attention to what the kids wear (or don't wear) than what the kids learn. I don't understand the new fascination with dress codes, unless, like Catholic schools, it's a power grab by the administration in an attempt to break the kids. It 's really had a negative effect on student cooperation and attitudes. A large portion of every day is spent complaining about the administration - something that was never an issue even 3 years ago.
