Great school with teachers that care. Tech forward, in a good way. A lot of the parents are engineers, which is great. Each classroom being tied to a University is neat and gives students exposure to all of the top universities in the country. My son loves it there. Recommend.

This is one of the best schools I have visited. The staff is welcoming and the students are leaders. This is a leader in me school and we loved how they have experts teaching math and science. A beautiful facility to boot!

I have two kids at Salk now and my kids and I are both very happy with the school. Shout out to the amazing teachers! I am so impressed with the culture at this school. There is a wonderful feeling of inclusivity and teamwork. One of my kids needs extra help and his teachers have been very accommodating. Both of my children have been encouraged to work hard and be kind to everyone around them. My son has had a couple very minor issues with other kids not being very nice, and it was handled quickly and satisfactorily and now my son is friends with one of those boys (it wasn't quite bullying but by the teachers' response, I can tell they will take any bullying seriously and nip it in the bud). My kids both look forward to going to school every day and come home happy. And they are right on track or advanced in all their subjects, even my son who needs the extra help. Some parents like to nitpick about parking or procedures, but they just need to lighten up. At the end of the day, our kids are safe, happy, and learning so much every day!

The school pays for anti-bullying instruction and keeps a watchful eye.

Jonas Salk Elementary is extremely technology forward. All students feom their first day receive laptops and the majority of their lessons and homework are performed online.
Posted: October 14, 2018
No one is perfect, but I do believe they are doing the best they can even though some are better than others working with today's technology.
Posted: October 14, 2018
The students take pride in thier school and the staff hold them accountable for their actions.
Posted: October 14, 2018
The administration works well together and appears to have the respect of the teachers.
Posted: October 14, 2018
They have processes which formally address special needs and others informally in class that assist in class where needed.

It has been great! We are lucky to have such a great school in our neighborhood.
Posted: March 19, 2018
There are some great teachers, however we have experience one teacher that could not challenge our daughter and two others that has been great teachers. It is a hit and miss on teachers.

There is a disconnect in the vision the principal has and what is reality in some classroom.
Posted: March 19, 2018
The principal has chosen to not have a GATE program at the school and students of all levels are placed in the same classroom. Teachers are then supposed to juggle and challenge students at different levels, but this isnt happening.
My daughter is in first grade but doing second grade math in the computerized ST Math, but in the classroom she is still doing 1st grade math.
Posted: March 19, 2018
The school does reach out to teach parents and students about bullying.
Posted: March 19, 2018
Homework is more computerized reading and math, and also reading 30 min per day. No worksheets sent home so as to minimize paper. I would prefer a better mix of computerized homework and worksheets.

We are surprised to see that the school is rated at 8 out of 10 and would like to know what the school will do to improve test scores. Do the scores resulted from students from another school since Jonas ES is only 3 years old?
Posted: March 12, 2018
I feel the amount of homework for grade level is excessive.

This is our sonÂ’s second year at Salk and both years the teachers have been amazing. The team teaching approach really lets teachers shine in their specialties.
Posted: March 12, 2018
Personal responsibility and respect are huge topics at school and my son has grown so much under their guidance.

Posted: March 12, 2018
We have a 504 plan for learning difficulties relating to ADHD and the teachers and staff have been amazing.
Posted: March 12, 2018
We have not had any issues with this so I cannot comment.
Posted: March 12, 2018
We transferred to Salk after less than pleasant experiences at another school. I love this school so much and he mostly likes it as well. The staff and principal completely support the teachers and help make my sonÂ’s time there effective and fun. I highly recommend Salk Elementary School.

My child was in the first incoming kindergarten class when the school doors opened. He is now completing 1st grade, and has been doing exceptional with the help of the teachers and curriculum. We couldn't be happier with the facilities, learning environment and progression of success that are child is experiencing.

Our teacher, in particular, has an almost magical ability to find ways to work with my child.
Posted: March 14, 2017
They concentrate on several aspects of good character, including school-wide projects to practice a different value each month.

Posted: March 14, 2017
My child's teacher and other staff have identified areas where he needs more individual attention and have taken steps to implement it, both formally and informally.
Posted: March 14, 2017
We have not encountered any bullying and therefore cannot comment.
Posted: March 14, 2017
My child needs extra help at school, and his teacher and the therapist on campus have provided exactly what he needs. The desire to help kids succeed pervades from the top down. The campus is very modern and the technology available in the classrooms is impressive.

This school is fantastic. The teachers are caring and helpful. The parent from the previous entry really should talk with her/his child's teacher, instead of posting nameless negative messages...this serves NO ONE.

My child's teacher is not responsive to any of my concerns and dismisses them. She is unwilling to work with me to find ways to help my child who has issues with high energy and sitting still for long periods of time.
Facilities are nice but it does not make up for terrible experience with my child's teacher.

I am appalled at the previous entry. The school is brand new! they have done a terrific job of making us feel welcomed. Amazing staff and school! Kind and caring students. Strong academics. Caring teachers and staff. Beautiful campus. Best school ever! Kids are their number one priority and, as a parent, I like that!! My 4 children have learned so much and are becoming more responsible. They will be ready for Middle school and high school. Communication is the best and teachers are wonderful!
The only thing I wish there was is more shade. The trees haven't grown yet...but they will.

Lack of communication and organization from teachers, inconsistent grading, lack of follow-through from principal when concerns were brought up. Even though online communication was available, teachers rarely posted information about class room activities, current subjects or homework assignments. Classroom test results were not routinely sent home or communicated until after the report card was available. It was never clear how the report card grades were determined.
