I would not recommend this school to families whose children require academic support or accommodations. While a remedial class was available in 2023, it was unfortunately discontinued by the end of 2024. The school has experienced frequent turnover among teachers, after-school staff, and office personnel & principals, which has impacted consistency and student support.

There are currently no dedicated resources or programs in place for students with special needs or challenges. If your child faces any academic or developmental challenges, I strongly advise exploring other educational options. The principal held meetings with parents in the past to point them to the "mall" and library to get help with curriculum! In my experience, efforts to pursue an Individualized Education Program (IEP) were met with resistance, delays, and dismissive attitudes. Concerns were often minimized or invalidated, making it extremely difficult to advocate effectively for my childs needs.
Families deserve transparency, collaboration, and genuine support when addressing academic concernsand unfortunately, that has not been my experience with this school.
BULLYING is a recurring problem, and the it's handled with minimal accountability like offering a pacifier instead of real intervention!

We truly appreciate and love Scholarship Prep Oceanside! My child has grown so much and feels so loved and supported at this amazing school. I cannot thank you enough for being so amazing to my daughter.

Had a very hard time here. Was bullied by all of middle school. Could never ever keep the teachers I had 3 different teachers in one year. And the administrators were just horrible.

We have been with Scholarship Prep since covid hit. My son is on an iep, and all services are met, they go above and beyond to assist him and give him emotional and academic support. I have nothing but rave reviews for the teachers my son has had. They have all been stellar teachers, supporters and excellent with communication. Every staff member is polite, helpful, and communicative. Electives offer variety of choices and are always engaging. As in any school you have your families that are eager and willing to make the school a great environment and you have your bad seeds. The love from all staff members and friendly attitudes for all the children is very apparent. Wish they would expand and finish off 9-12 grade, so we can complete our education with Scholarship Prep.

This school used to be great. Unfortunately they no longer offer what they promised. No language no art (last year we got you tube videos and coloring pages), no music. Sports, basic and a free for all. Teachers had to start training the kids to take the state test months ahead, even told to ignore other subjects!! (Parents if you dont know you can opt your kid out of state testing, it is not mandatory ). The stress they put on those kids for that test is ridiculous. So much time wasted practicing how to take that test.
Teachers were amazing. Unfortunately the school lacks the ability to retain them do to excessive amount of work and not enough teacher support, not to mention the over crowding of the classrooms. No help for iep, you as a parent have to literally FIGHT for every thing. New principal is not receptive and not a true leader. This school needs someone with leadership skills. 34 kids in one classroom is insane, especially when you have half with ieps and 504, and no emotional support or even classroom support. They would punish an entire classroom instead of the students causing problems. We had fights, throwing things, kids pushing teachers,kids strangling kids, and kid pretending to shoot the classrooms. But they dont want to suspend or expel anyone because then the school looks bad. Many parents were also ridiculous with no manners whatsoever even allowing their kids to break the rules during a fun activity, and telling them not to worry cause they knew no one was going to do anything. Again school used to be amazing now its a place we no longer recognize. I hope the administration and higher ups do better.

In reading the last few reviews of other parents, it is obvious who these parents are. There have a been a small group of families causing the staff so much stress for reasons not worth discussing, and they don't like that the staff is standing their ground...good for them! The teachers do nothing but care and love our children. My husband and I have three children in the school. We've been there since before COVID. In our opinion, the school did an amazing job battling through the shutdown and getting everyone back on track when students returned. I see parents saying the school performance has gone downhill, but it doesn't take much work to research and see the school is outperforming all nearby district schools, in some cases by a lot. They just started work on a large turf field and track for student athletics that you can see when you drive by. We are getting new playgrounds for both our kindergartners and middle school students. They added beautiful new turk to the TK/K area that it now looks like a park and my son loves it! The principal is working so hard to get out of her comfort zone and support students, parents, and staff in any way she can. Is everything perfect, of course not. But when you see families bashing LGBTQ students, that should tell you to ignore their ridiculous opinions. Look up the school's data and you will see FACTS. They are doing great! We love our teachers and my kids hate missing school for any reason. That tells me all I need as a parent. By the way, the school has a large waitlist and is adding three new classrooms due to students on the waitlist, so they must be doing something right.

The newest principal in the line of many since the school opened 6 years ago and faculty are rude and non professional.

The only communication from the office staff is fluff about upcoming events and fundraising.

Nothing of importance is ever communicated to the parents including changes in what they are learning about like Mandrin that they prided themselves on when they opened. They couldn't even keep someone to teach them Spanish.

Teachers come and go. Every year we had on average 3 teachers for a school year. Major red flag that your teachers won't stay.

Special education services are dropped without parents being informed.

The kids are taught nothing more to the CASSP testing.

This year, 2022-2023, my child's class had 33 students (33:1 class size, not the 18:1 claimed) and had THREE different classroom teachers, one from August-October, a different one from October-December and a 3rd from December-May. That is such a large and unstable environment to learn in. The school dropped the second language without notifying parents...how can they educate children in San Diego county, which has such a large non-english speaking community, and not offer a second language? The physical education doesn't teach a variety of sports or healthy activities, they just have mostly free time and its only twice a week for about 35 minutes. They reduced lunch to only 25 minutes to both eat and play. That's so unhealthy to eat so quickly then go back to sitting at a desk with very little physical activity. CDC says they should have at least 60 minutes daily but without this offered at school and by the time they finish homework where is the time? You will have little involvement here and your kids will not have a variety of experiences. Schoolwork is a lot of worksheets. There is no extra academic support when needed, they leave that for parents to figure out. Its disappointing, not all of us came from a situation where we had that education and our children shouldn't go without because of that. Its just not an enriching environment. A shame because their south bay campus seems to have a lot of programs/options. This particular campus though just seems forgotten about. Lastly, they spent so much time on state testing, Im talking 2 weeks in March and 2 weeks in May, PLUS multiple weeks of test prep before each, then followed it up with a week of their own testing. The test results are so skewed due to the amount of training/memorizing to write the test beforehand rather than just teaching the material so they actually knew it and remembered it. I wouldn't be surprised if the real knowledge is way lower than test scores reported here. This year the state data collection has required data for the 2021-2022 school year and again for 2023-2024. If you are considering this school, I'd keep an eye out for the new data because everything you see now is from 2017-2018. Not really relevant anymore. I wish I knew that beforehand.

My kids started at Scholarship Prep 6 years ago right after they first opened. It was once a very good school with amazing staff and administrators. But the changes made after Covid and the new principle caused all of the good teachers and staff to leave. They have been replaced with teachers that have progress pride flags and transgender flags in classrooms and all throughout the school. They are disorganized and communication with parents is almost nonexistent. When administrators are questioned about the agenda being implemented in the classrooms you will be dismissed or just outright ignored when asking basic questions. The new principle is unprofessional and rude to say the least, as is the staff in the front office. They are hyper focused on race, equity, and lgbtq agendas rather than education. Its a shame to see whats happened to what was once such a wonderful school

My child had a bad experience here . Was picked on by classmates. Staff would not do much regarding it . IEP here was a joke . My child didnt get the proper help here. Staff is rude & dont answer questions well. They always seem to be bothered if asked questions. Its just a strange atmosphere there.
Dont put your child here.

This school was great when the Senator was involved. Since her departure the other co founder has run it into the ground. They used to boast of being suspension free and now you can frequently find first graders on in school suspension in small rooms. To say this school is the worst in the area is an understatement.

They once made up for their lack of appropriate building and facilities with loving staff and great policies. Now they are a for profit business and don't care about your kid at all. Kids are merely a paycheck making someone rich at the top.

Don't expect them to treat you well either, the staff is rude, argumentative, and condescending. The current principal is awful. She barely can tell you what time it is let alone answer simple questions about your child.

You have been warned, don't send your child here expecting to get a quality education. They spend the whole day in a small classroom doing worksheets and nothing more. If you have any accommodations or special needs good luck, they don't have the facilities to do anything but give your kid worksheets all day.

I was once excited to have my kids in this school. Sadly it had declined in the past year. They can't keep their same staff including teachers. Something is obviously going wrong, the communication between school and parents is very poor. The building is also not very practical or suitable for a k-8 school. The new principal is unexperienced and not very helpful.

Was once a good school, but now among the least attractive in the area. Recent departures of many good teachers and administrators has led to a real lack of engagement with students and a sense of disarray in the schools operations. My kids are not thriving as they once were. Its sad to watch. Additionally the facilities are very old and the playground is tiny. Better choices out there!

Horrible school.

I enrolled my kid in that school. and everything was old, and bad quality. He got picked on sevral times, told a teacher and they did nothing about it.
