They merged the K-8 and 9-12 campuses into 1 system on this site. With that said, in reference to the K-8 system, the school has done a 180 degree pivot from pre-covid teaching. Post covid has seen a huge turn over of teachers. All the qualified teaches seem to have left. The campus now consists of newer teachers, most lack a true understanding of curriculum and how to use various components to meet the needs of all students within their classrooms, most focus on DEI concepts instead of teaching the core subjects, and most lack empathy and classroom management skills to handle the high number of special needs students that roam the school. (They do seem to favor students whose parents bring in gifts and prefer parents who never question the curriculum, the discipline, or the lack of teaching.) The writing and math curriculums being used by the school are repetitive, lack creativity, do not address the various learning modalities to ensure the academic success of each student, and in-no-way support higher academic learners. Not to mention, the ease at which a student can cheat with the Coastal curriculums is truly alarming. A majority of parents cant use the programs because they are entirely too time consuming, dont explain the steps in the concepts (particularly math), and require parents to have a good deal of training. This campus does not teach science or history in any memorable and exciting way, thus students lack content knowledge in these areas in the K-6 levels and it shows on the state testing. Both 5th and 6th grade levels lack any rigor on this campus. 2 of the 4 teachers dont appear to teach the core subjects at all. If the parent does not supplement extensively outside of the Coastal curriculum, the student will fall behind academically, especially if they leave the Classical system. Middle school does do a much better job of teaching, but the core curriculum used in each subject lacks any rigor and if the teacher does not supplement then the online assignments are all the student receives, which prove to be very easy. Overall the school is a mess. It does not prepare students for high school, especially a high school outside of the classical system. Honors and AP courses will be very difficult for students who have spent several years in this classical system should they choose to attend a non affiliated classical high school.

I was disappointed by the lack of academic rigor in the 9th grade Honors program. The curriculum did not challenge students, and in particular, the math teacher did not provide actual instruction most learning was left to the students without guidance. This concern was reportedly addressed with administration several times, but her teaching approach never improved. Additionally, she often behaved immaturely with the students, which was unprofessional and made the learning environment less productive. There were also troubling behavior issues on campus, and the assistant principals seemed overwhelmed, unable to maintain a safe and respectful environment. For a school that promotes strong academics and character, I expected far more support, accountability, and fairness for all students. I don't recommend Coastal Academy Highschoo, AT ALLl. I removed my student, and she is attending 10th grade at our local public highschool this year. Their courses FAR EXCEED the level of rigor that CAH offers. And on day 3 I can already confidently say that moving schools was the best choice for my child.

My daughter is currently a junior and prefers over EC. She likes the teachers because she feels they have more patience with her questions at times when she doesn't understand a concept. They also offer many chances to get support with homework during the 4 on campus days. On Mondays when she completes school work from home, its structured and she knows what to do without me having to help her at all.

From a parents point of view- I appreciate that they have vape censors in every classroom and bathroom. I appreciate their zero tolerance to breaking school rules as this year so far only ONE fight... thats unheard of at nearby highschools where there are fights a few times a week. Lastly the fact that they meet with their assigned mentor weekly is awesome as it keeps her focus sharp and eyes on the prize.

The school was moved to a horrible and unsafe location. The principal is very unresponsive to any parent concerns and does nothing to resolve issues. Glad my daughter is a senior, would not recommend this school.

Coastal Academy Middle School was the worst school my kids attended. They teacher dont provide much support and I believe the Language curriculum is frustrating. Its IEW which is even hard for a parent to understand.. if you have a child that has a learning disability dont go. The teacher will be nice to your face and then turn around and talk behind your back. Pacific View Charter has been a game changer. They have been extremely supportive and offer lots of help for student during and after school in the tutoring lab.

My son started Coastal Academy High School as a freshman. The school has changed a lot. He is now a Senior. The school was moved to a questionable part of Oceanside filled with homeless. They lock the kids into the school with a gate and a guard at the gate at all times. Why would you move a school to an area of town filled with mentally ill homeless people? It was in a much safer area before this move.

The school has become a DUMPING ground for kids who have all kind of issues at other schools. If you couldn't cut another high school and have issues come to Coastal High. They will welcome you with open arms. So many kids are now attending the school with behavioral issues. The school has also become very transient with kids who are there one year and on to another school the next year. I would say this school is 20% just normal kids, about 40 percent special ed kids whose parents are looking for additional support for them and 40% troubled students who had issues at other schools these issues would be behavioral, drugs, bullying or being bullied, fighting, etc. My son has been exposed to a lot of questionable kids who have no plans after high school and no aspirations to go to college.

The sports teams are terrible. Mostly only parents attend the football games. If your kids want to have a "traditional high school experience" this school is not the place to send them. Biggest mistake of my life. I can't wait until my son graduates this year.

This school is a good idea in theory, but for many students, the reality is that there are major learning gaps because many parents are not doing their jobs as primary educators. This is of no concern to admin because the school is a business and does its best to hide that many students do not do well on the STAR testing. The school also does not teach sex ed-it puts the duty on families and most of them choose not to do the curriculum. When I taught at this school there were many students on C-Track whose parents did not allow them to use technology or computers to do their work.
The school also discriminates against LGBT students-When I taught here, I was directed to contact parents if a student came out to me. Many parents go to North Coast Church and so outing students to them put them in a potentially hazardous situation.

My daughter has been attending here since 2016 and we both love it. Curriculum is by far exceeded in advance. Teachers are 100% devoted to their students. The amount of support is abundantly, whether your student or yourself needs extra help. All the staff is respectful and helpful.

I transferred my daughter from a public school. She has been attending Coastal Academy since 2nd grade. She is now going into 8th grade this new year and leaving to High School. This school is amazing Im truly going to miss the all the teachers, VP, AP, and staff. The teachers focus 100% to your student education, the curriculum is very easy to understand they provide all teacher materials to parents. They have endless special learning resources and those teachers are god sent. They have on campus class and homeschool full time. Bullying is not tolerated.

Everybody here is so helpful. I have a special needs child and they make sure she learns in her own style, just as they do for every student. There's a ZERO bullying policy, an excellent character building program, and support 360°. Teachers are encouraging, great communicators, caring. Parents and teachers are partners in children's education. They empower us to show our best so students give their best. We've been here for 5 years now, and we wouldn't imagine it otherwise.

My first year and new at homeschooling. Also, we enrolled during the whole pandemic which was very hard. With all the restrictions we didnt really get to reap the benefits of full days. The school needs more support for new families and most of the moms are credited teachers. the staff is welcoming and friendly. There is a lot of work to be down and if you have a child who will fight you to do work, youll be stressed. It can be a great fit for some families and a nightmare for others. It wasnt a good for us.

My Child started in K all the way to 8 grade, was in C track most of the time he love it because the ES was very accommodating and helpful of his learning needs, he had online learning, also traditional, he advanced at his own pace, and today is a grade ahead in Math.
