MFMS's environment is hugely damaging to students learning. My student was in the 6th grade and was bullied the entire year because of his race, name calling and harassment. I had to move him to a different school. Don't enroll. (However teachers are very nice.)

I am extremely disappointed with the way my son's situation has been handled at this school. He has been the target of repeated bullying, including a physical attack in class. When he defended himself during the incident, he was suspended. We were told that he should have walked away and found a teacher, even though he was actively being assaulted.

After returning to school, the same student continued to bully him. During 6th grade PE—the class where most of these issues occur—this student and others went through my son's backpack and ate his lunch. It’s unclear where the PE teacher was during this time, and it seems like there is very little oversight in that class.

When I contacted the school, I was told my son should report these issues to the principal. He has done so, yet the bullying has only intensified. It’s incredibly discouraging to see that students who want to learn and thrive are not being protected.

This school seems to lack an effective system for addressing bullying and ensuring student safety. I urge the administration to take this issue seriously and implement real solutions before more students are harmed.

I see why there are so many private schools in this area as the public schools are so unsafe. My son will be attending one of them next year as his safety is our main priority.

My daughter came to Marco after having attended a local private school for years. We are so happy we made the decision to send her to Marco. The teachers and admin were all supportive of students and families. They cultivated a positive school atmosphere where the kids felt welcome. The teachers and admin are working hard to meet the needs of many students who are learning at varying levels and who have different needs based on their backgrounds. Most of the negative comments I have heard about Marco are based on fear and not on the reality of the school. Marco is awesome!!

Marco Forster is a great neighborhood school. My son has enjoyed his experience, and we have been delighted with the fantastic staff. Go Roadrunners!

Not the greatest school of all time. As a student I see things that happen inside like drugs, bullying, no kindness. majority of school is Hispanic. Overcrowded classrooms, graffiti, foul language, not a great learning system, school in need of TLC, disrespect, and discrimination, and lastly LOTS OF FIGHTS. Not returning next year.

Kids in STEP program are definitely taken well care of but some special ed. teachers are a bit overwork with students. Get to work with PAL students often.

Mrs. Bertini is AMAZING! All the teachers LOVE her -- she motivates the teachers. She's got grit and passion for what she does. She makes sure to go out of her way to attend all of the award ceremony's and events for the students!

From what I see, I believe they have a solid program that supports students with all types of learning differences. Although it's not specialized like the charter my child came from (multiple intelligences) I do see MFMS incorporating a variety of techniques (music, going outside the classroom, etc..) which seems to support students with learning differences. My child came home one day after school telling me how he feels comfortable at this school because he noticed that the student population was very accepting of the special needs kids there.

As previously mentioned above my child started attending MFMS in 7th grade (now in 8th) and transferred from a local charter school Oxford Prep. Although we loved our charter school we needed a change and MFMS was the change my child needed! My child is thriving at MFMS, he is in all advanced classes and the teacher student ratio is very low considering it is a public school 26:1. My child excelled in the advanced classes and loves the teachers at MFMS. The teachers at MFMS really love their students and have an open door policy, think of the teacher from Freedom Writers in Long Beach, CA. During the teacher's lunch hour my child would eat his lunch along with the math teacher and get extra help in math. I later learned that all the teachers do this, not just the math teacher! This was unheard of at my child's former school. At my child's former school, if my child went into the classroom during the teacher's lunch hour for any reason my child would get in trouble!

Another amazing thing about this school is parent population. The parents of the students at this school are very humble and hardworking parents, they are very grateful and appreciative of the teachers. I also like the fact that the boys and girls club is right across the street so my child can walk over after school!

The school does what it can to develop good characteristics like integrity, compassion, and respect. I think it can be difficult at times because sometimes the resources that help push this information out is not always there (they lost their secretary at the end of last year) and messages were not being pushed out to the students. There was no one to send out email blasts to the parents or the marquee was updated too late, etc...

Teachers that truly care about the success of the students. Dr. Perez runs the music program and is extremely dedicated and passionate - we are extremely fortunate to have him. Mr. Gerow runs AVID and is extremely effective at inspiring his students to take their studies seriously and provides them with the skills needed to be college ready. I wish I had teachers like this when I was in middle school!

I am a very happy parent! My child had such a good experience at this school. He was terribly bullied at his last middle school where nothing was done to help him. This school met all my expectations and beyond. Nice kids, great teachers, wonderful staff and administration. Rosie at the front desk is a doll. She was so nice to my child and to us, and really helped us out throughout the year. As a whole, the people at this school are real people ...kind and down to earth. I absolutely recommend this middle school!

My kids went to Marco and spent three crucial years doing nothing. They were in acc classes and still did pretty much nothing. Looking back, I would never send them to Marco again. They did not learn crucial skills they need in high school. Marco did not prepare them at all. (They were straight A students at Marco, of course)
I would definitely not recommend this school if your child's academics are your priority. They will not only not gain any skills, they will also loose any skills they had prior to going to Marco. Hope this helps.

Handful of teachers (2 teachers over three years from our experience) will teach kids on appropriate level. Meaning, unless you are very fortunate to get one particular English teacher, your child will literally do nothing in English class. Math (higher level math class) seemed to have handful of good algebra teachers.

My daughter is constantly harassed by fellow students for being too white. They make fun of her in Spanish and call wheda, marshmallow, redneck, white trash etc. It's awful. Teachers are treated horribly by students and cause uproars in class. Most of the teachers are amazing and do their best but there's days when the entire period is spent disciplining a disruptive student(s).

My daughter has been reading (listening to a book on tape and following along in the book) a book in English as a class for over a month now and all they do is highlight important paragraphs. That's it!

I work for the CTA/NEA. Both of my kids went to Marco and this is the worst school that I've ever dealt with. It was so bad that we moved to Missouri to get away from it after having raised our kids in SJC. They were continuously beaten by the incorrigible children and the staff could care less. After I got my Daughter through school we moved back and then my son went to Marco. They said that the problems with these violent kids was his. After 6 months of their neglect and apathy, we moved back to Missouri and never had another incident and he graduated with honors. Worst School ever!

It is an OK school. Our kids made lots of friends and like it in there. This school is very diverse and it has its pluses and minuses. It definitely takes a toll on education. Many kids end up in accelerated classes or are accelerated students, however they still can end up in class that consists of both, accelerated students and non-accelerated students and that could be a problem as many non-accelerated kids do struggle with English. If our kids did not feel socially comfortable at Marco we would most likely look at different middle school where education would be more of priority instead of trying to please all different academic categories of students.

I am an involved grandparent of an 8th grader at Marco. Because I am a retired high school math teacher, I know what I am saying when I say that Marco provides an excellent education for its students. My granddaughter has had outstanding teachers during her three years at the school and her overall experience has been very positive.
