I am a student and to write my review this school is horrible, students have an unpleasant smell and students are misbehaved as teachers do nothing about it, the lessons are mostly low effort the lessons are either 2 grades left behind and it isn't really caught up exactly on grade, another thing is after my 2nd day at school i find my locker missing in the locker room when i had it literally locked and once i complained about my missing locker they are expecting me to pay 10$ for something that isn't my fault?, another reason why i wouldn't recommend this school is that this school isn't friendly to new students teachers would only give students current work and not explain the full context which would be really overwhelming for new students, so i wouldn't recommend sending students here there are better options.

First off, my kid is not a trouble maker.

You think Roseville, can't be that bad? It is.

This school houses some delinquent children. My kid was attacked and beat up during school. The school acted like it was just another day. Expected my kid to go back to class with her face swollen and traumatized.

They give you no information on who did it , no information on what steps are gonna be taken for it not to happen again.

Just don't send your child here.

Buljan is an absolute disgrace and this district spits in the face of parents, students, and staff. It is completely unsafe for students. Constantly infested with rodents and roaches. The admin is horrible and does not care about students or staff wellbeing. Avoid this school at all costs

This is a good school. Unfortunately all the reviews are from parents or parents of kids who are trouble makers. There's good teachers here and the school has been really good the last 2 years.

School is extremely racist and do not help you if your child is getting bullied. I watched kids get beat up and the bully’s get no punishment. Got called schizophrenic when a kid ruined my things and when I had to pray for Ramadan they refused to let me go because they thought Ramadan was fake.

I don’t go to this school but I do know that some special ed kid just recently got beat up until unconscious by a girl all because he accidentally threw an apple at said girl. For the love of god, parents, raise your children better than this, it’s sickening.

My niece has been repeatedly bullied and attacked (witnesses and videos taken) for a year and nothing has been done, this school and the entire district is a joke.

So disappointed in all the bullying they allow, and if a parent asks for them to do something about it they just start making up lies about the kid who is already being bullied victimizing them even more! The teachers are absolutely unaccountable when it comes to protecting their students.

We thankfully were able to do a transfer out of Buljan to another school. My son was bored academically and I felt the culture of the school has changed for the worse.

Posted: August 20, 2019

For 6th grade my son was given no homework all year long. He got straight A’s but the coursework was far too easy and he was bored.

There are exceptions but I found the majority of teachers to be uninterested

As a parent of three children that attended this school, I can say they each had a good experience and gained the tools needed for high school. The teachers were supportive and communicated often, mostly through e-mail updates. I appreciate the role models my children had in them. My children speak fondly of their experiences and their teachers.

I have had two children go through Buljan and my second child is just about to graduate 8th grade. I have had nothing but a caring and approachable experience throughout my 6 consecutively years here. My younger child is one who I needed to have a strong line of communication with her teachers to assure her success and I feel I had that all three years. I see there are bad reviews about how kids dress, drugs, bullying and I too was alarmed of stories I heard when my kids were in grammar school. The reality is this is true for middle schools and high schools and kids are going to start hearing about things and the first line of defense is in the home and having an open line of communication with your kids. You cannot keep them from seeing and hearing things but you can educate them to make good choices in their decisions and their friendships. I know we would all like to protect our kids and keep them innocent for as long as possible but when they enter high school and college they will need to be equipped with the harsh reality of what is out there. Neither of my kids are the fast paced kids at school and neither of them ever had any bad experiences that scarred them while attending Buljan. In fact, they both loved their years at Buljan. From what my kids have told me, bullying is very much handled and taken seriously at Buljan and when kids get in fights they are suspended from school. There is a dress code and kids are definitely talked to when they break it. If you use your cell phone and you are caught the phone goes to the front office. Academically I have been very happy with Buljan but I also think you have to be very involved to get the most out of any school and sometimes that is being the squeaky wheel. I would like to thank all the teachers who have mentored both my kids and both achieved a 4.0 for all three years at Buljan. My older child has still maintained over a 4.0 in high school thus far. Where I think the school lacks is the level of parent volunteers. No one wants to volunteer their time or donate an item for a teacher luncheon or even their child's 8th grade graduation. Parent involvement benefits the kids and making a school better.

The 2018/2019 school year is when the district changed the grading system and they almost did away with homework. I do not feel as a parent this is helpful. High school and college is full of independent work away from the classroom and I feel middle school children need to learn to manage and do this. Also, from a parent perspective, homework is where I get to see where my kids are not understanding something and I can step in to help. I also heard that next year the grading system will do away with percentages and go to the elementary school system of 1, 2, 3. I really think this is a bad idea as I think it is good for middle school kids to get use to percentages as they will be graded on in high school and college.

Buljan has been a real disappoint since Mr. Gunn retired. The school has no concrete system to solve bullying/threatening. It has been a continuous problem........administration has no clue on how to mange or resolve this horrible issue. My advice, have your child go to Cooley! Oldest child attended Cooley.......great school! Moved into Buljan boundaries. Really wish I did an inter district transfer. Teacher are not bad. Mr Fry is the best!!

Unfortunately, this school started out really well about 8 years ago. However with the new administration and new teachers (along with new superintendent) the school is AWFUL. They preach that they are getting our students prepared for college - however they are practicing the opposite. There is no follow up on students who BULLY other students, and damaging personal property. The principal shows no empathy towards parents when their child is bullied and the superintendent does NOTHING. Out of all the teachers that my child has only one of them is showing him skills that he will be using in high school. They are NOT utilizing common core standards as they were meant to be - in other words collaboration with other students is low. How are they supposed to integrate into high school where most projects are done in groups? There is NO differentiation and everyone is graded subjectively.
It's a shame because the last principal was great and so was the last superintendent. Now it seems like there is no passion for teaching there at all. Send your kids somewhere else, where learning is fun and the atmosphere is conducing to learning - not having to watch your back for the next bully to get away with stealing your stuff or having your teachers grade you based on their opinion of who their class favorite is.

We have attended Buljan for almost two years now. My daughter now thinks that she should wear as little clothing as possible, has been repeatedly "bullied" by mean girls and the principal has not been helpful with the situation. We have enjoyed the AVID program but will not miss it when we transfer to a different school next year.

This school has been crossed upon as, "a great school" "best education." & people believe that until the actually go to this school. Discipline is horrible. Kids dress inappropriate. Foul lain gauge occurs daily. It's become a school of disrespect. The teachers rely on the kids to do every assignment. But what they haven't realized, is some kids go home with pages of homework from OTHER classes. The principal told the students "Bullying is an overused word." When in fact, bullying isn't. And when they go to take care of the problem. They do nothing. I'm soon to be happy to live out of this school's district. Because I am completely tired of the lack of respect for students & parents.

This school is the worst school my son has ever been to. The girls dress inapropriately. There are drugs throughout the school. A complete lack of discipline and leadership. Kids making out and grabing each other at the nearby park imediately after school. When you address the issues with the principal, there is little to NO action taken. I am astounded that this school is so bad! I wouldn't even give this school 1 star if I didn't have to in order to warn other parents about this school.

Buljan is an OK school with respect to education and discipline. The staff is nice and kids are safe under Mr.Gunn . But if you are looking forward to challenge your kid this is not the best middle school. The so called GATE program extends to lot of kids who are not GATE and the actual GATE kids get lost and are neglected. No matter what the reputation of the school, lot of your kid's education lies in the teacher s hand who handles them in those years. Yes like the other parent has commented, your kid will benefit if she flaunts in shorts or minis, look and act chic rather than be studios. If your GATE kid needs to be challenged, then this is falls way too short with self-absorbed teachers at least in the lower grades.

I am a first year parent at George Buljan Middle School. I thought that this was going to be a great school however I am not impressed. The education my child received for 6th grade was very similar to his 5th grade curriculum. The biggest dissappointment of all is that the students have no disclipne. The students dress inappropriately and seem to have no respect for the rules or staff. There aren't many fights or bullies. This school has become a microcosm of the culture at large and all the problems and pressures kids face. Our modern culture is increasingly making the young old before their time. The lack of disclipne is alarming. If you try to get involved as a parent you get the bare minimum effort and the brush off after that. I expected more from such a nice city.
