So far is one of the best schools. Teachers are amazing and the Principal Ms. Llamas is always helpful and dedicated to her school.
I can see the evolution of my daughter and even with the pandemic we all learn something new and how to work together with the clases, homework, and interaction online.
Im so grateful for all this school has done.
Now my daughter is back to school in person and she is loving it.

My children and I had a wonderful 12 years at Cook. Two of my kids attended from kindergarten through 6th grade and left well prepared for middle school. Ms. Llamas’s has been Cook’s Principal since November 2013. She has worked very hard over the years to bring the International Baccalaureate program to our school. Our school has come such a long way since she’s been Principal. She’s very professional but she’s also very kind and cares about her students and families. There’s such a strong sense of community at Cook that you don’t have with bigger schools. Cook teachers are hard working and it’s wonderful to see that they remain passionate and enthusiastic about teaching. They were wonderful when schools closed due to Covid. Ms. Llamas and her staff did their best to stay in touch with families. My daughter graduated this year and she’s a confident, happy young lady and she’s ready for the years ahead . She’s always felt supported and encouraged by her teachers and Ms. Llamas. I as a parent always felt welcomed. There’s a lot of opportunities to get involved and to make your voice heard and to be a part of your children’s education.

The homework was appropriate for my children’s grade level. It was an adequate amount of homework. The school provides students with agendas so they can stay organized

Principal Llamas is very professional and approachable. Her door is always open and she goes out of her way to address issues and concerns and to resolve them promptly. She’s very supportive and cares about her staff, students and families.

Hazel Cook School has offered a wonderful, kind, understanding and compassionate environment for my child for the past seven years. From Kindergarten all the
way through the 6th grade and Covid, the education and support were outstanding.
Gabriella Llamas, Principal, has an open door policy and had been willing to listen to my concerns regarding my student. She has also offered to look into resources to help. Ms Llamas continues to keep in touch even though our student has left Cook for Middle School.
Cook is a small school and offers an International Baccalaureate program providing our student a more global education. Cook is ideal if you are looking for a small school with caring staff and the opportunity to grow and be prepared for Middle school and beyond.;

Teaching is a demanding and challenging profession. Cook teachers worked to improve their skills. The transition to International Baccalaureate was a challenge for all, but they met the goals.

My child went to school here and hated the way he never was hear when he was bullied or taken serious when a problem became worst due to the neglect of the principals responsibility and the unorthodox way the teacher avoided his needs. I hate this principle for not showing leadership and never communicating with parents. She would leave bruises on my childs arm. I called several times never once received a call back nor a visit to her office she would avoid me completely. My minor son was questioned and taken out of class with out my consent with unrelated issues. They violated his rights.

Principal Llamas bullies her teachers and staff and then is WEAK on discipline with students. She does not support the teachers as they attempt to curb negative behaviors. In fact, Llamas coddles the students with negative behaviors to turn around and blame the teachers for the lack of discipline at Cook.

The majority of teachers at Cook are amazing, knowledgeable and kind individuals. I agree with another reviewer that said the staff are people you can't put a price on! Principal Llamas should not be allowed to work in any educational setting!

Despite the teachers working under duress with the principal's moodiness and superiority complex, these teachers work so hard. The vast majority are intelligent and effective teachers that truly care about their students' education.

Principal Llamas does not lead by example when it comes to integrity, compassion, and especially not RESPECT! Any appropriate and kind behaviors the students demonstrate are a direct result of the caring, competent teachers at Cook Elementary!

Principal Llamas has no kind words for her teachers nor her office staff. In fact, nearly all of her office staff transferred out of Cook after working with her for a year and that's very telling. She has only selfish intentions when it comes to the International Baccalaureate program at her school. She believe any accolades the program and school earns belong only to her and not the staff that is in the trenches working for the good of the students.

I found the staff at this school to be excellent. They obviously don't receive the same budget at other schools in East Lake or Otay Ranch but the quality of the staff is something you can't put a price on.

3 hour homework in 5th grade makes me wonder what they're doing in class.

Bullying is definiatly not under control. The principal Mrs. Llamas is rude and demeaning. She cut back on student activities so she can get a bigger bonus check at the end of the year. The play ground equipment for the kids is down to a minimal. 2 yard duties for a campus of over 600 students isn't sufficient.

I really dont recommend this school my son will be transferred from here. I really didn't like the fact that they split him from class without a teacher he had a subtitute teacher for a long time if they knew it was too many student for one teacher they should have had a teacher ready for them since the school year began, they dont have a teacher assistant which is very important the teacher needs help and they should have notified the parents in the beginning of the school year that parents are not allow to take any food to the classrooms to celebrate anything i even ask the subtitute teacher she didnt even know the parent can not take any food they have no communication within the school they should be on top of this how they say its a good school im sorry but i dont think so

my son is now in 2nd grade,i dont care to much for his teacher,my son absolutly loves school ,up until he started this year-i dont see the passion he had the last 2 years in him now and that bothers me alot! i wont let anyone kill my sons passion for school and thats including teachers.!!! so i am having him trasfered out of HIS class.but this is the only negitive encounter ive had. i also went to this school myself and i loved it! now we got blessed to have his his kindergarden and 1st grade teacher 2 years in a row. she is a great techer,very interactive with all the parents,friendly,communicated very well with parents.and mr.shy the principal is a very good principle in my eyes,he is very involved with everything and i can honestly say i trust him and his decisions. so besides this one little set back at the moment...this school is a 9 out of 10 to me!
