I’m a former student, My experience at this school was really rough. The teachers played favorites, and some were downright rude and condescending. My third grade teacher, for example, gave a really smart kid math phobia and shared awful, graphic stories about her dog’s health issues that were way too much for kids to hear. The school wasn’t transparent about traumatic events that happened in the classroom, which made everything feel unsafe.

I also had to deal with bullying, but when I was targeted, I got blamed for it while the actual bully got special treatment because her mom was a teacher there. This kind of unfairness was constant and exhausting. I ended up dealing with this toxic environment for five years before I finally switched to homeschooling, which was a huge relief.

Overall, this school was not supportive, fair, or safe. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially if you value honesty, respect, and emotional safety for kids

We have had three children at this school ranging from TK-8th grade and all have had excellent experiences. The teachers are amazing, the school counselor is available when student need to talk and administrators take their position very seriously. I would highly recommend this school.

I have been since 2nd grade in this school, and this is a very bad school i have experinced a lot of bullying in this school, The students are very disrespectful and have a lot of violence. Some of my classmates are very but very inappropriate the boys likes to touch each other inappropriate parts during class and the teacher doesn't do anything to them. Students like to say harmful things to each other and also hit/punch each other. It happens A lot of bullying, harassment and lots of more negative happens in this school. And what's worst is that the principal doesn't do anything about it they don't suspend them or anything. And the students talk a lot about violence or things that are very sus. So if you want your children to be safe DON'T SEND THEM HERE.

Amazing school i have two kids registered here one in second grade and the other one in middle school. I love the school and the staff. they will always go an extra mile for the kids, we have not experienced any bullying, the only thing i would change is the cafeteria menu and advanced classes.

If you want your kid to be safe and taken WellCare of I would not recommend this school. They let kids bully each other and staff hit your children and they won’t take action upon this .they can’t even have the teacher apologize .

This is definitely one of the best schools I've been to and I would very much recommend anyone who seeks to get the best education to try and go to Discovery Charter.

Only been at this school for a couple of years, however, my daughter has done very well. I was happy she was taken out last year for reading assistance and homework has been pretty ok. Sometimes I do feel teachers are slightly petty over notifying us of our child's indiscretions at school. Some things just don't need to be relayed, but I can't imagine being an Elementary School teacher. I think the staff is wonderful, school is always clean and so far there hasn't really been any issues with bullying. Common Core is always something I'm not happy with and I feel that in general kids are pushed too far at young ages but I think the teachers have done fairly well with it so far.

My daughter was referred to the SDC preschool. When I met with the teacher the classroom smelled terrible and one of the teacher's general appearance wasn't up to my expectations of any teacher, the toys looked worn down and the playground shared with the state program was also run down. To make matters worse, I wasn't properly oriented which resulted in my daughter not being allowed to attend on her second day, leaving her confused after we worked so hard to get her to accept going to school. Then my daughter was involved in a "minor accident" which to me was the direct result of improper supervision. As a first time mother, I am now kicking myself in the head for not listening to my gut feeling telling me something was wrong when my daughter suddenly started strongly voicing her wishes to not go to school, it was a meltdown every time I mentioned school. Not too long after this she had her elbow broken by another student who was pushed and fell onto my daughter. This I couldn't overlook and I immediately took her out of the school. I strongly feel that this preschool program is not the safest. I am a child clinical psychologist and I say this both as a professional and as a mother, this is not a safe school nor is the most nurturing or enriching environment for children, especially those with special needs. The teachers seem to play favorites which you can see by who they take pictures of. Please exercise extreme caution when deciding to enroll your child and visit the classroom when kids are in session. I am terribly dissapointed in this school and their preschool program and wouldn't ever recommend it to any of my clients or friends. A broken arm in preschool, while it could happen, is unacceptable in the midst of all the other factors...teachers should be properly supervising children at all times and discouraging them from engaging in potentially dangerous situations. This isn't a matter of a poor fit for us as parents, it is simply not a safe place for our children. My daughter now attends a wonderful school and I immediately see the DRASTIC change in terms of the program and my daughter's comfort with attending. "Though love" as the teacher from Discovery say, is not what children of this age need, this from both as a mother and a child psychologist.

Discovery Charter is the worst school. I simply cannot fathom how it managed to attain a four-star rating. The teachers here are lazy, unprofessional and unattentive to the childrens learning or their needs. My child is very bright and eager to learn, but this school continues to fail him. The teachers are not concerned with the growth of the children, but they are concerned with their own well-being. My child has complained that his teacher does not help him when he does not understand an assignment and the teachers model favoritism. Students that need additional help are often left behind, while other students prosper because they're favorited. In addition, the curriculum is boggling and confusing so much so that the children aren't fully taught a concept, and it is quickly abandoned and the children are forced to move onto the next concept or lesson without fully understanding the previous lesson. I have taken my child out of this school and he has displayed a significant improvement as a result. The teachers are also racist and prejudice and this behavior is highly noticeable to both the children as well as the parents.

Excellent school with excellent teachers. My kids just started at Discovery and our doing awesome. We love how involved the PTC is to continue raising money for the school. Ms. Youngblood and Mrs. Mosey are excellent teachers. We just hope and pray that we can continue to have the kids go to this school.

I was told this school was great. I am not very impressed. My son was sick in class and I never received a phone call so I had no idea. He suffered the whole day because he said the teacher said he was fine since he did not have a fever. Make a long story short, my son went to the ER and was throwing up for the next 2 days. Not too long after that we received a school email showing an overall attendance record and on the bottom the principal wrote "we can do better than that" I was more than annoyed! Talk about bad timing.

My 8 and 9-year old grandsons are students at DSC, and they both feel it is the best school (of 4) they have ever attended. With that endorsement I am happy to rate this school with 5 stars! They seem to be thriving and learning.

Discovery is a STEM academy with every lesson having a science, technology, engineering, or math focus. The teachers are outstanding with a true hands on, sitting on the floor, writing on the desks (erasable) approach and using creative videos and funny voices on Edmodo to inspire the students! It works as the recent API score hit 900! and the school has been designated as a California Distinguished School. Staff collaboration and communication could be better. Parent involvement could also improve as it is a Charter School.

Smart, educated teachers, a principal who is involved and cares about the students. A full-time nurse on site. They have plays, fine arts, sports, and daily fitness.

Our family loved the Pre-school program! I the ratio is 10 students to 1 teacher! The whole year we were there we never were to capacity always about 20-22 kids (3-5 yr olds). Which meant that the ratio was smaller. They group the kids according to their abilities, how they will be chalenged. The kids have a great computer lab IN class, painting, coloring, craft area, puzzles, puppets, circle time, recess, snack time, math time, and much more.

Pre-k program has way too many kids in one group. 30 3-5yr.old's in one class!! Crazy!! The class is messy and unkept and the teacher's seem burned out or inexperienced.
