This is definitely the best school I have ever taught at. I am still astonished about Capri’s amazing inclusion program, teaching staff, and fundraising. My 4th grade son is enjoying his experience so much!

The teachers and community at Capri are outstanding. My kids have excelled on all academic levels and have formed meaningful friendships with their classmates. Their teachers are engaging, supportive, motivating and uplifting. The class sizes are relatively small. The teachers treat them as a whole person and encourage them to be healthy and show up for their community (we run all the 5K’s together!). We are so grateful.

This school has some excellent teachers. EXCEPTIONAL even. I do not feel that these teachers are effectively supported by leadership.
I had multiple students in this School and while I would highly recommend several of the teachers, I would not recommend the school for divergent learners or gifted students.

Capri is a dual immersion program. They self select for the immersion program, effectively splitting the community in half. Native speakers are recruited from head start and surrounding communities.

As students in grade 3+ drop from the dual language program, the class sizes for dual immersion become smaller with more personal instruction while the English speaking programs get larger and are filled to the maximum capacity. My experience is that this put exceeding pressure on the teachers to extend their resources beyond what should be expected. Learning differences cannot be effectively managed in the classrooms as currently established in this situation.

Gifted students are accommodated with iPad instruction.

In my opinion, leadership from 2017-2021 was inefficient and damaging to the school community.
Many of the gifted school community moved to private schooling during the 2020-21 pandemic.

I am so impressed with this schools community! Amazing parents that are super involved, throwing fun events and keeping the children showered in creativity, science, nature and music. My two sons have had amazing teachers here - from good to amazing, there is not a bad teacher.
This is a very diverse school (by Encinitas standards) which I am glad for. While other schools in Encinitas might have higher test scores, that is because they are either super white or actively discourage children from learning disabilities (this really happens, I know parents who have switched schools becuase of it), so that keeps their scores higher. Capri does not discourage children with disabilities, in fact when I needed an IEP for my son they were so helpful and gave us so much support.

My children (in two different grades) both experienced bullying at Capri. If my child would bring it to the teacher, it would be ignored and the child was told to learn to handle the situation with the other child and don't come and tell on the other kid. If I brought it up - it was handled by the teacher. This is really disappointing. The experience my kids had was the teachers don't want to deal with it, but if forced to, well then they will and you as a parent can't pull that card too many times because then the teacher won't like you or your kid either.

With a new principal on board we were hopeful the culture would change. It hasn't changed and the kicker is, if you are paying a lot of taxes to be in a good school system - well, say hello to multiple grades being mixed into one classroom, no teacher aid, and classroom sizes in the 4th grade and higher to be upwards of 30:1 ratio for student to teacher.

My child was not the smartest kid in the class, but wasn't the least talented either. It was clear, depending on what teacher you get (and especially as they move up in the grades), that some teachers would not expend any energy providing any assistance to the child who just didn't understand a concept. It was really disappointing.

I would not recommend Capri Elementary school if you have a choice. There are better schools in Encinitas (English Program) that have fostered a more caring and encouraging school culture. If given the choice, I would recommend going to another elementary school in the district.

Too much homework is assigned to the point where my child haa at a minimum of 1 hour each night.

There are definitely some teachers who are at Capri and clearly love teaching and do their best to provide students with a great environment. But beware - if you are not lucky enough get one of those teachers, you will experience teachers who allow bullying, who practice bullying themselves and have resigned themselves to doing the minimum as they are some of the most highly paid educators in North County. The culture at the school is not warm, caring or discourages "mean" behavior among the children.

My children experienced and witnessed bullying, and also experienced instances where teachers had favorites, who were usually exceptionally talented students. The teacher made comments in front of other students that made it clear who the high level students were, medium, and low during classroom stations. The parent volunteers were appalled - it even happened in front us. It starts with the behavior of the teacher - if the teacher treats it like a job, and does not have strong character, well here we are.

We love Capri! I have 2 children currently at Capri in the Dual Immersion program and we just LOVE it! The teachers are amazing, the students are all close and we love the diversity. Our soon to be 3rd and soon to be 2nd grader have love their time here.

Beautiful campus with ocean view and cool native habitat and orchard and specialized science curriculum. An added value school ith awesome parents and great caring teachers.

I've no clue in the entire world what the people below are going on a rampage about, but when I went to this school almost 10 years ago I loved every moment of it. There were very little physical fights and the principals, teachers and parents as well were very involved with the children's activities. My mother came in every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday as a teachers assistant (voluntarily) for my whole class. Lets look at some more facts.. Every school isn't going to be perfect; it is your job as a parent to talk to your child about problems at school and become aware with whats going on instead of standing on the sideline watching without and initiative to stop the problem(s). Get involved with your kids school. That being said, fights and the typical, "He said, she said" matter will continue all through your kids school life no matter where it is. You must understand that the time from when you were a kid and now has drastically changed and drama from before continues on the next day with people posting it along social websites and texting instead of just forgetting about it and moving onto the next day like we did.

Five stars for Capri! We have two children at the school...the teachers and staff are top notch. My children are challenged and love going to school everyday. The families that attend the school are caring and very into giving their children the best education and school experience which means they are involved. We love it! Gretchen Wendel

I have two children in this school 1st and 6th grade. Some teachers that my sixth grader went through from beginning until now were great, others were poor. They seemed to be from one extreme to other. I love the after school care available on site; the dual immersion program and the fact that we are semi-private school that funds it's own art, science and music programs. We do have a diverse population which is great for our kids to experience. It was hard at first to adjust to the several principals, but I think the current principal is doing a darn good job. Kudos! I would definitely recommend this school to a parent.

Capri has such a warm atmosphere of parents and teachers. It is a community in every sense of the word. Beth Cameron is an amazing Principal. We are so proud to be a part of such a highly academic and nurturing environment!

Both my children have been at Capri since Kindergarten. I have been very happy with their education - reviewing their individual yearly STAR test scores. They both get very high marks. I like the atmosphere at Capri and feel my children are sheltered from negative influences. There is a mix of socio-economic levels and cultures at Capri which makes it a wonderful place for children to learn diversity. On the negative side, those same diversities make it challenging for the teachers/administration. I would encourage those looking to send their children to Capri to go to the school and meet with the administration and take a tour. Base your decision on your own visit and experience.

We've been at Capri for going on our 6th year now. We love it there. Bullying has not been a problem for my kids - i have a son and a daughter. The teachers have recognized my children's levels, abilities and needs in all areas and enabled them to become successful, self-driven learners. The new principal works with the teachers to optimize the classroom experience and has agressively sought ways to establish order and minimize conflict on the playground, etc. I would recommend Capri to anyone - and my kids are NOT in the dual languange immersion program. They receive fabulous attention and are not short-changed b/c of the DLI. My best advice to any parent, anywhere (b/c it's our job, really)... be involved whether it's in the classroom or on the PTA.

I have to agree with most of the points in the previous post. There are some good teachers, but also some phenomenally poor teachers, and the administration/leadership is unwilling to address any issues. Bullying is a huge problem, and includes physical aggression - it just takes a few bad apples to realize there are no consequences, and they make it miserable for everyone. Until the current interim principal, the willingness to address it was nonexistent. The dual immersion program is given favored status, to the detriment of the students that are not in the program. We will not be back next year either, and would discourage anyone from sending their children there beyond 1st or 2nd grade.

Interesting that so many people posted on October 6, 2009...let's look at the facts. This school has had 4 principals in the last five years, so I'm not sure why the principal rating is so high. Bullying is a rampant problem at the school and the newest principal, who has been there since December, has decided to tackle this problem because it is a known problem. The kindergarten team is amazing, but beyond that we have found most of the teaching staff is sub-par and don't look at the whole child. I'll admit, however, this is no wonder considering they have had such poor and inconsistent leadership over the years. We are moving our children out of the district and I would encourage you to talk to several parents before you decide to send your children to
