No art, no music, no extras, no finances, and zero parental support.

Unfortunately, La Paloma is a product of an underfunded district that has been left behind. I though there was a mistake when my daughter told me she has no extras in her new school. It was not a joke. La Paloma has no STEAM program, no art program, and no music program. I did not realize those were optional programs within a public school.

Academically, La Paloma is roughly 2 grade levels behind our previous school district. I thought it was possibly a single year issue but this is now our 3rd year at this school and my daughter is doing work she learned in 3rd grade at her previous school.

The parental support is lacking to say the least. We're half way through the school year and the district calendar is still last years. The front office is very useful at telling you they'll get back to you. They are good at reiterating what the district puts out, though. Whenever the district puts out a newsletter, La Paloma will forward the information along to you; so I guess that's a positive.

Fortunately, this is our last year with La Paloma. I'd like to think this school has the ability to turn things around (and I hope they do) but with their current administration and lack of financial support, I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

My daughter was in Ms. Anita Allen's Transitional Kindergarten class at La Paloma School. Ms. Allen is an excellent teacher. If you analyze La Paloma School's School Accountability Report Card, you will note that La Paloma students are doing much better than expected, compared to their parents' socio-economic demographics, thanks to the administration's effective leadership and dedicated teachers. My daughter is attending a Catholic school this year. Next year, she is going back to La Paloma School, because La Paloma is a better choice.

The Leader in Me program helps students become more responsible, caring leaders. The staff is very friendly and positive. The campus is well kept and very inviting. They have a beautiful school garden that is maintained by volunteers and students. The PTO is very active and plans many activities for the students and teachers.

I have nothing but great things to say about La Paloma! Under the leadership of Principal McGough, this school has reached full potential. Teachers are upbeat and positive, the students are happy and the parents are involved. Both of my children participate in various after school enrichment programs that are offered for free, such as garden club and Mandarin. My oldest is in the GATE program and has had science club, art classes, reading club, and math club after school, plus other programs have been offered that we have chosen not to participate in. In class, my eldest is challenged with special research projects and power point presentations. My youngest, a 1st-grader, has tons of parent help in his classroom, helping test students on sight words and math skills. My youngest is performing above grade level now. Both kids have made lots of friends at school. La Paloma is a wonderful school to send your kids to!

My child is in his second year at La Paloma and we are very pleased with our experience there. He is in the dual immersion program, which is one of the reasons we chose La Paloma. It is an amazing program and challenges our child much more than english-only classes would have. The staff is wonderful and the principal is a very friendly and community oriented. He has lead the school in great improvements over the last year.
