My son attends Monte Vista and he loves going to school there. He loves learning and his teachers do not disappoint him. They are experienced, competent and reliable. He is challenged academically via honors and college level classes. He has made friends and he likes the food well enough. The leadership at the school exhibit lots of participation with students and parents. They are available when needed with positive attitudes, a willingness to listen and they support their staff in any way they can. All in all, a very positive experience.

Monte Vista has been such a good fit for both of my kids! The honors and AP classes are fascinating and the teachers and staff really care about the students. There is even a mental health support system and a community center available to help families. My kids' sports teams never won championships (though other Monte Vista sports teams sometimes did!) But the vibe in their teams was always warm and welcoming. And at the "championship schools," kids have so much more pressure (both in sports and in academics) than at a neighborhood school like this one. My kids have thrived here. I think part of the secret is that since we are a smaller school than some charter schools nearby, our teachers and coaches can give each kid more attention. And there's an overall culture of kindness.

This has been, by far, the worst school experience my child has ever had. The administration consistently fails to protect students who are being bullied and shows a troubling lack of understanding around mental health. Instead of addressing the behavior of documented bullies, the administration routinely shifts blame onto parents and punishes the victims.
The principal, Mr. Tropp, demonstrates no accountability and has been openly condescending when legitimate concerns are raised. After assuring me he would conduct a full investigation into my sons bullying situation, he claimed to have reached a conclusion within hours. Our meeting began at 3:00 p.m. yet by 10:00 a.m. the next morning, he announced the investigation was complete. Considering school ends at 4:00 p.m. and doesnt reopen until 8:00 a.m., its clear no thorough investigation took place.
My son was repeatedly bullied, and only when he finally defended himself did the school take action against him, not the aggressor. The district seems more interested in protecting staff than protecting students.
Parents deserve a school where safety, accountability, and genuine mental-health awareness are priorities. Unfortunately, this school has demonstrated the exact opposite.

MVHS has been a great school for my kids! One of my children graduated from MV last year and another child started this year. The staff are so wonderful and supportive. Since its a smaller school, there is more personalized attention and teachers/staff know my kids. The advanced classes are rigorous and get students ready for college and life beyond high school. The other students have been so inclusive and friendly. My children have made many friends during their time at MVHS. Its a school that doesnt get a lot of attention, but it should! Good things are happening at MVHS every day. Dont listen to that earlier review. Not only is it hearsay, its not accurate at all. My child and another classmate is at Berkeley this year after graduating from MVHS. Many of their classmates are attending college this year at schools such as UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, and Cal Poly to make a few. MVHS is a hidden gem in so many ways. Were proud to be a Monarch family!

My kids love this school and don't want to leave. I'm in the military and we move a lot so I've been getting itchy. But it seems we'll be here for another 3 years. I'm just glad they found a home because, being a military brat can be challenging.

I am the librarian at Monte Vista, and I started two years ago. I have found it to be a great school, with caring, compassionate adults and nice students. There are several career pathways here (Auto, Cosmetology, and Computer Game Design) and a thriving sports and arts program. It feels like a family, and most of the students are very respectful and happy to be there.

I am a student at Monta Vista High School. I am currently enrolled in ASB, yearbook, and advanced choir.over the past couple years our school has gone through many changes including staff, students, and buildings. We have improved over the past couple years and I highly recommend going to monte vista to any student enrolling into high school. every year our test scores increase more than are goal recommended. I have heard no complaints from students of monte vista. In fact, we are one of the most spirited schools in the Grossmont Union high school district. the staff of our school are not only teachers, but leaders And positive examples to what a school Body and family should look. I love Monte vista and I im proud to be A monarch.

I'm going into my third year at MVHS the teachers are great but classes are ruined by other students. Sometimes staff can be very rude at times and when students need help they are unavailable and students can wait hours. It's a good school but need work with different things

Terrible high school, may it suffer the same fate as Carthage did at the hands of the Romans; graduated class of '73 and never looked back. The only reason for its existence was to keep kids off the street; enroll in classes at Grossmont College where you can actually learn something. School staff did not care; teachers generally OK except for Woodshop teacher who's only function in class was to talk about dune buggy racing in the desert and to supervise the hoodlums in the class; counselling nonexistent and worse (my sister was discouraged from applying to Cal Maritime because "girls don't do that;" spoiled little rich kids abusive of other students (ever have your locker burned? insert charcoal lighter fluid followed by match - voila!).
