West Hills has some great teacher and some amazing advanced placement classes.
The problem i feel with this school is there athletic department. Especially the mens soccer. If you have a son that hopes to play at West Hills unless you are friends with the coaches or a child of a teacher dont bother having your son try out for soccer. I have been to every game for 2 years. It is very sad to see the same kids sitting on the bench week after week. And it has nothing to do with there experience or the ability. There are kids that have been playing for year, been on club soccer teams, played at other school. It is favoritism. And it is ruining kids self esteem. Kids wonder if they are not good enough or what is wrong with them.
Dont put your child thru this sad experience. Sign them up for club or one of the other soccer clubs.

We have been so pleased with everything West Hills has to offer. The wide variety of classes (Honors, AP, College Prep) provide challenging, but realistic expectations to students who vary academically in different subjects. The many extracurricular sports and activities offer students with varying interests a place to fit in and thrive during the high school years. Both of my daughters have been active in clubs and theatre and love it! The theatre and arts programs are amazing and comparable to those you would find at an arts-focused school. The school is well-run and friendly and the campus is beautiful.

This a very good school and a safe area for teens to walk to school. The Sheriff department always had a squad car at the entrance of the school.

Poorly. While I appreciated the support I had from a few key teachers, overall the cultural issues have not seemed to change over the years.

When I attended this school 10 years ago, I was groped on campus. A VP bullied me into not following up on my concerns and told my parents "teenage girls make things up all the time". That VP is now the principal. She has always played favorites, after being catcalled in an extremely lewd way by a member of ASB with multiple witnesses and reports, she refused allowed him to give a speech at graduation and said "I've known him and his family for years, this doesn't sound anything like him." I'm so disappointed to see that this kind of victim blaming and ineptitude was rewarded by the school district.

We recently moved to SD from out of state. They said they never received our 'wish list' turned in months prior with confirmation of class preferences. We were dumped into lower level classes because the appropriate Advanced classes were 'getting filled up and almost full.' The 'top counselor' told us he didn't know what the 'Algebra class was like in Colorado and that he needed my daughter to take Algebra again here and test out first because the Geometry class was getting full.' We were dismissed by the 'top counselor' and told to 'run to class now as your seat may be taken in Bio' which we had on our wish list 4 months prior with confirmation. My daughter and I were walked out of the counselors office dismayed on the first day of school. She said the class she had to 'hurry to' was over half empty. She went two days and I pulled her out. We spoke with a vice principal about our experience and heard back a couple of days later that he would move her to more appropriate math class, but by then she was also dismayed at the lack of administrative leadership and the seemingly first impressions of the students motivation in some of the lower level classes she was placed in. We did not end up attending this high school. We found another school within a week that was more suited to her academic needs.

Without a positive leader with strong character, respect, compassion, or integrity for others that goal is going to be highly difficult to achieve. The rest of the staff are just as bad and speak in a condescending, demeaning, and disrespectful way to both parents and students. The don't listen and just keep repeating canned responses.

The principal is an ineffective communicator who dumps her issues with other parents on to the rest of the parents. She is a poor listener and is negative as well as difficult to speak to. She lectures and demeans both parents and students no matter how good your student is. She is a bully and uses bully tactics.

If your child is a senior in marching band, expect to be treated unfairly and forgotten during senior night. Two years in a row they pull this stunt with excuses....”we didn’t get the list from so and so”. They point fingers and never take responsibilities. Just an empty apology. These kids are seniors! There’s no do overs!!

The staff are examples to the students, the staff treat the students as if we are lower than dirt. They show zero respect to us, but expect it all in return.

This is a school that shows complete unfairness to any race that isn't white. Being at this school will leave you feeling very frustrated with the staff as well as the students.

West Hills is a modern school that has consistently outperformed other schools in the area in all aspects (academic, athletic, and extracurricular). During my time 80% of my teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure that I get the highest quality education available to me. There are course offerings for everyone including remedial, college prep, honors, and AP. I have found the staff to be kind and encouraging, and even the teachers that I haven't been fond of have still produced better test scores than teachers from other schools in the same district. There is little violence and bullying, and in time of grief the school has come together as one to get through it. The one complaint I have is lack of foreign languages. While the German and Spanish programs are very strong and are generally successful, I would like to see another two or three languages added in the near future (French, Chinese, Arabic, etc.). I would highly recommend this school to any prospective students looking to obtain the highest quality education available to them.

It is an okay school. Some teachers act as if they dislike being there which causes our day to drag on. There is a lot of bullying and everyone is rude if you get to know them. I would not recommend this school for anyone I am in the process of switching schools because of the lack of caring on the campus

They have been accused of having racist staff members and I thoughj that it wasnt true until I would look around at teachers and epecially administration and be shuned because of my skin color. It is a 95% White school so people of other skin color are looked down upon. There are reviews on other websites confirming what I am saying here. I have had first hand experience with the horrible administartion, they suspended me last year over a petty violation, throwing a piece of paper. Now they have expelled me over horseplay with a fellow classmate even though we are friends and playing around. That matters little to the horrid staff members that work in the Administration building at West Hills. Good riddens, WHHS, sad to see 3 years of my high school education wasted in such a place.

The school never had my son's 504 plant so they did not help him in any way. When they learned that he had one they did not do anything to remedy the situation. My son failed the last two years of high school and they would not hold him back or offer any other solutions to the problem.

I was once a student at West Hills for one month back in 1999 before I moved out of state, and I found this school to be decent. The best positive I have seen with this school is the student body activities that are performed before and during the school year (spirit activities, etc.). Also, both males and females are treated equally if they wanted to perform. A major downfall of this school is the lack of quality. I took French as a subject (Spanish was filled up), and I was shocked to find out that when I left the state that I learned baby French and not actual French. As a result, I had to relearn French in a short period of time. Also, in English, learning 1200 words per semester seemed to be a drudgery, and does not fall in line with national standards. Those that did not perform well with reading comprenhension would be setup for failure because of this requirement. Teachers seemed to care, but were not as good as my next high school that I attended. The counselors were fine with me, but seemed to be a little rude at times. Overall, West Hills is decent, and could use some improvement.

I just finished my sophomore year at West Hills and it was amazing. The staff (especially those in the science department) is remarkable and genuinely care about their students' lives. On multiple occasions teachers took the time to talk to a student if they seem upset in anyway. They are supportive and truly want to see all the kids to succeed.

Boy do I relate to the counseling staff they have 2 that try to cover for the rest that do absolutely nothing. It takes weeks for them to see a student. This is a real problem when you have a Senior. The district office doesn't even want you to know where they are. The have you leave voice messages but no one ever calls back.

I am a sophomore at West Hills and the staff there really do care about their students. I have had teachers ask me if i'm ok and inquire why other students seem unhappy and the majority of the teachers are pretty awesome :) sure there's the occasional crazy but hey it just makes the day better :) the campus is fantastic although not built for rain and the people here are generally very accepting of new students :)

Great school! The faculty and curriculum helped prepare me for college and made me the well-rounded person I am today. I had no bad experiences with any of the faculty and would recommend this school to anyone.
