We have been a Morning Creek Family for the last several years and I could not be happier with the education my kids are getting. The teachers are top notch and I appreciate that the school's foundation provides enrichment through the Wheeling Program - STEAM Lab, Art Studio, and PE. My kids have also benefitted from the fact that we have a full time school counselor and a focus on social emotional learning. There are many after school programs, and events that are fun and community building. I am confident that my kids are being kept safe and are getting a well rounded education. We love being a Morning Creek family!

Communication between teachers and parents regarding student progress is severely lacking. The principal is not approachable and rude with parents. There are cliques at this school between parents and teachers with biases clearly evident. Attempt to request a quick chat with a teacher before school or after school and you will be cut off or asked to make an appointment BUT if you spot a favored parent they will certainly get their time with the teacher. There is a lack of emotional support for students who struggle or learn differently. There is a lack of support for students who struggle with a large classroom dynamic.

They organize many family engagement events at least monthly but when you attend there are no signs and no staff to guide parents coming into the school and definitely they are not enforcing the signing out of parents during large school events like the Family Luncheon. This creates a security concern for kids in session as it is easy to walk in and walk out without a staff member stopping you to sign out.

Then there is the horrible traffic at school pick up and drop off. The traffic backs up to Sabre Springs Pkwy and should be monitored by police. It should be enforced that if the parking lot is full, parents must continue driving past the entrance and park in order to drop off or pick up students. I’ve made the mistake of parking near the school entrance at pick up and having to wait 25 minutes for traffic to move because parents were at a standstill in their cars on Morning Creek Drive waiting to get into the parking lot. It’s not hard to park and walk.

This school lacks essential academic support. I find myself filling gaps at home or resorting to private learning centers. There is minimal communication from teachers regarding my child's progress, and no academic materials come home, except for artwork. Staff-parent interactions are often disrespectful. Heavy traffic during drop-off and pick-up adds to the challenges. Additionally, there is a lack of effort from teachers to assist struggling students. There are frequent substitute teachers, and parents are not notified about their absence. Moreover, the consistent changes in teacher levels across grades have resulted in a lack of grade-specific experience.

Excellent school with amazing teachers. I have a boy and a girl in this school and we could not be more pleased. This school exceeds our expectations with very experienced teachers, great principal and a lot of possibilities for parents to get engaged. The teachers, the staff and the principal Fleming work hard to make the school a great learning environment. A big plus for STEM, extracurricular activities and additional events that take place every year (multicultural night, science night, musical theater, chess, lego and many more)!

I am a grandparent who volunteers weekly at the school for at least 10 hours. The new principal (just beginning her 3rd year) is dynamic, engaged and accessible. The teachers are experienced and creative. 21 languages are spoken at home by our very diverse student population. Although most parents work outside the home, family engagement remains high. My 2 grandchildren are fortunate to attend Morning Creek.

I am extremely disappointed with how the principal handled my child's case. We were accused of unfounded allegations and despite no evidence being found, the principal continued to treat us unfairly. Her actions have caused immense harm and trauma to my son and my family. Not only did she mistreat us, but she also frightened us by threatening to make records for us. This caused a lot of emotional distress. The lack of accountability and transparency from the Poway Unified School District in addressing these issues is unacceptable.

We have been at the school for a few years now and I absolutely love it. Coming from a different school in the neighborhood, I love how the teachers interact with the kids, how the community helps out and the parent/ child interactions. I am much more impressed with the education my younger son is receiving than what my other child received at a neighboring school.

We have been incredibly happy here and we will miss the teachers when we leave

Posted: March 28, 2018

My son gets easily overwhelmed with extra work, so homework is a hard time for us, but I don’t necessarily thing he gets too much.

Homework is common core sheets that bore my child and make my child hate math. Daily reading homework makes reading into work not fun and makes my child hate reading. Busywork projects that require families with working parents to grind through hours of parent/child and parent/parent conflict at night and on the weekends result in entire family hating "learning" in general and this school in particular.

Posted: March 20, 2017

Hard to evaluate when the school draws from relatively affluent area. Style seems to be to pass off any difficulty to parents.

Posted: March 20, 2017

Posted: March 20, 2017

Any area where a child lags is noted in report cards and left to the parents to try to teach.

Posted: March 20, 2017

This school scores well due to demographics of students and parents that minimize difficult students and maximize easy to teach students. Otherwise, this school is no better than any other common core teach-to-the-test school. If you are the type that confuses busywork with learning, you'll love the place. If you are a stay-at-home or part-time working parent who wants to be their child's primary teacher, this school might work for you. This is a bad school for working parents. The school borders are gerrymandered making it difficult for many parents to participate during school hours. For working parents, the only option to help child on daily busywork homework is later in the evening when child and parent are exhausted.

Principal Taylor is awesome. This school has great teachers and office staff. Teachers are very dedicated and sets the bar high for their students. Healthy and happy lifestyle like running club and parent lunch. Kids do great in academically and socially. Parent involvement is really great. Morning Creek community will definitely grow bigger than what they are now.

Morning Creek definitely encourages parent involvement through volunteerism and attending school sponsored events. This is not the kind of school where you just "drop your kids off and then pick them up". I guess you can, but if you want your child to thrive at MCES, be involved and you will notice great things happening. Get to know your child's teacher(s), attend PTA and Foundation Meetings and show up to school sponsored activities. The best part about MCES is how warm and welcoming the PTA board is towards new families. Some schools have massive cliches, but not here. One thing I will note is that complaining will get you no where...actions speak louder than words on this campus, so if you want to see a change, get involved to make a difference instead of making noise.

Maybe they are great, but I'll never know. All I can rate her is the office staff. We went into the office this morning to get enrollment papers for my son. I stood there for about 10-12 minutes just waiting to be helped. I heard a very excited conversation amongst staff members about the best brand of store-bought cinnamon rolls (with or without icing), and a little about the digestive upsets caused by off-brands. But not one person amongst the 6 in there offered my son and I any assistance. I did finally try twice to get the woman behind the desk to help, as she looks like the type that you would ask. She got up once and stomped off into an adjacent door. When she came back I said "excuse me" again, louder than before. She went back to her computer. She didn't seem to have an issue with hearing, as she did lend her opinion on the cinnamon roll conversation.
Finally I looked at the woman standing next to me (a staff member) and said "am I in the right place here? To enroll?" And she just stared at me with her mouth half open, trying to formulate a response.
I decided as just this part of enrollment is this much of a headache, then it's probably a nightmare to deal with anything really important, like your child's education.
Things have come a long way since my mother was a school secretary, I guess.
I hope I can find a school for my son.

We have been coming to the school for 4 years! We have watched our older daughter excel in her classes and in social settings. They offer running club, colt chorus, science club, monthly art activities, etc. We always feel so included in our children's education. Emails go back and forth between the teacher and parent keeping a great communication line open. Morning creek is always trying to include fun family events like: Back to School Tailgate Party with games, crafts, food trucks and the End of the year Yearbook Signing and Movie Party to name a few. All of the teachers that we have had have been wonderful! Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Bassett, Mrs. Buddy, Mrs. Heinzman, and Mrs. Hagan all have their own personalities and techniques on teaching, but they all have one thing in common. They love the students in their classroom and they want them to succeed! ESS at Morning Creek is fabulous! When we first joined ESS I worked full time and felt very comfortable leaving my Kindergartener in their care. Once she got into 1st grade, ESS made sure that her homework was completed before I picked her up. Both of my daughters attended their Summer Program! THEY HAD A BLAST going on field trips, swimming, movies, watermelon eating contest, science experiments, egg drops, and dress up days! We have thought about moving to a new house, but the idea of leaving Morning Creek is just not worth it. Morning Creek is the best school for our daughters and we are so glad to be party of the Morning Creek Family.

School is overcrowded causing teachers to act frantic. Class size is in the 30+, funnels into an equally overcrowded middle school. Second year with two kids in this school and can't tell that any real teaching has been accomplished. Lacks programs in Art and computer, music program is minimal. Facilities need upgrading.
