This school drained me.
If you’re not wealthy, white or whitepassing, or somehow have access to private tutors and connections, you’ll struggle here.

The culture is awful and most families have been here since kindergarten, so favoritism runs deep, especially in athletics.

I witnessed constant racism, sometimes even just outright maliciousness, and at least half the student body uses slurs daily. Reporting it is useless you’ll come to learn. Teachers were fine, but the administration’s hypocrisy was insane.

It’s very telling that the school publicly promotes LGBTQ+, transgender, and special needs support, yet they fail to address the blatant racism that certainly comes through in daily interactions.

Lcc is a school that outwardly claims it’s inclusive but is really really unwelcoming to outsiders. Unless you already belong to a clique and thrive in that environment, I would NOT recommend this school to you.

If you can afford a private tutor and attorney great option. Program for one type of student - entitled college driven. Otherwise an outcast, drugs in bathrooms and parking lots but staff and coaches don’t look the other way unless you are part of the elite.
Covid days were a joke- teachers saying “no class” because they had a plane to catch- they care more about their paychecks and pensions than the kids. Look at all options is my advice LCC is not the end all be all.

Great school, programs, clubs and education opportunities. They go out of there way to make sure the kids are successful. Great sports, spirit and academics.

I wish my daughter had gone to SDA or CCA. Her bother went to CCA and it was an incredible experience for him and he got a great education.

Too many of the teachers think that giving a lot of homework of big projects is doing a good job. They don't realize that without guidance they are "Helping" only the students who don't need help.

Social Sciences teachers are fantastic, A+. Math teachers pretty good. Science, mostly horrible. Teachers want students to help clean the classroom for extra credit to pass, but will not allow the student to actually make-up work to learn the material. English, mostly horrible. The only English class my daughter pass was AP English in 11th grade, and the AP test. She won writing competitions in college, yet the non-AP teachers at this school didn't even care. They don't answer parent e-mails and never showed up at her 504 meetings. Even her counselor was frustrated with them.

They are very engaged with the students, which is great. But don't seem to be able to make the teachers care as much as they do.

Great academics, safe school, kids enjoy going there. However as a parent of a student on an IEP it's a struggle to get what they need.

My child has 2 hours of homework a night. This is to much expecially for kids with learning or attention disabilities. They get overwhelmed and lost in the system. The teachers will never follow up with your children to see how they can help even with missing homework and failing grades. Very dissapointing.

So so nothing special. The staff is over loaded. They have the passion and heart for your kids but don't have the time for individual students struggling. They have to much of a teaching load and to many students in each class.

We have had huge struggles with our child having his IEP executed and supported. It's frustrating to watch your child failing, falling through the cracks and no accountability. IEP services means nothing really here. You still have to micro (not proactive) your students sucess and can't get any attention even if they are failing unless you bring in support of an advocate.

My son is a freshman and didn't know anyone when he started school. He already has made some good friends (we are four months into the school year) principally because of marching band (the "Maverick Brigade". The band kids are a great group and the parent supporters are amazing. The band teacher, Ms. Mattison, does a great job with the kids. Other than band, everything is fine. The teachers seem good and my son enjoys most of his classes. I would encourage all parents to get their kids involved with something. There are many clubs on campus and being involved in something, whether it's sports, the band, theater, debate, whatever will really make their school experience much richer and more rewarding. There are lots of wonderful opportunities at this school.

My sons are doing great at LCC! Neither of my boys are jocks, stoners or straight A students and they never complained of being mistreated. They both love their school and I find that they are having an enriching high school experience. LCC has so many wonderful clubs and extracurricular activities to get involved in which I think is important. Teenagers need to be engaged to succeed and I'm seeing exactly that with LCC. I've also noticed that the teachers go above and beyond to help and encourage the students and that is so refreshing! Very proud to say my sons go to this fantastic school!

My child is an incoming sophomore at LCC and he loves it. He has excelled academically and athletically. He says his classes are fun and he learns a ton. Teachers care and Just like in any other school, if your child finds the right friends he is bound for success. It's definitely not just an athletic school like some say. I believe he will be ready for college when the time comes. Amazing school and environment for any child! We love you LCC! Go Mavericks!

As a student at LCC, I find that I have enjoyed my time here. I am not an intense athlete, but do participate in cross country and track for the team bonding aspects. This school offers a great variety of classes for students who wish to take advanced classes. The school does need to get drugs under control though. There have been multiple times I have seen students high in a classroom. Most of the time, these students play sports. This school needs to implement random druj testing for athletes, because they do nothing about this problem. As for this not being an artistic school, I completely disagree. There are multiple people who have a whole day dedicated to art. Take a your and you will see how beautiful out campus is compared to SDA and Torrey Pines.

A bad place for anyone different. If you are not a jock, a stoner, or a straight a student, prepare to be bullied throughout the school year. Not a bad school for those who love sports, but a horrible school for someone artistic.

A very bad school for a child who is not a jock or a college cound student. There is a major drug problem, as well as a discouragement of individuality. If you are different, artistic, or if you plainly don't play sports, expect to be bullied. Oh and fights are quite common, as well as a high conservative christian population, which tend to be extremely homophobic. Also quite a lack of diversity, as 3/4ths of the students are white. Needless to say this is probably not the school for your kid. Try SDA.

This school has nothing to offer the student who is not college bound or a jock. Wikipedia states 97% of students at LCC are 'college bound'. A better statistic to know would be how many of those students graduate college. My point is THIS SCHOOL ASSUMES ALL STUDENTS ARE COLLEGE MATERIAL AND THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE FOR STUDENTS WHO WISH TO PURSUE A TRADE. There is a new business track, hopefully it will morph into something for trade school bound students. And yes, changing a class is a major undertaking if your student and the teacher are a poor fit. Not to mention, my student was being BULLIED by a couple of other students and they ended up in a class together. Fortunately I was able to get her class changed b/c she is special ed and I knew what to say. But good luck to others. Ugh. Can't wait til she graduates.
