All of my children have found success at SDA. My children have been supported by their teachers, their schedules, and the school environment. My children are motivated by their teachers and they have found a kind, intellectual, and worldly friend group.

My daughter just finished her 1st year at SDA and it was a very good experience.
She found great friends, did well in her classes, joined a few clubs, and joined a sports team. We were attracted to the school because there are a variety of honors and AP classes so that my daughter will be competitive for applying to UC schools.
The culture of the school is really special. There is no bullying and it is a very inclusive place. No high school is perfect, but this one is very good.

The learning experience was excellent!
All three of my children chose SDA, and all were happy that they did.
All three got into top university of California schools
Blown away that the school is not rated 10 out of 10, I think they are getting dinged because of the demographics of the area

The 4x4 schedule allows for students to take only four courses a semester - giving them time to focus on those courses like college rather than juggling 6-7. If your child is going to take AP courses, this is an advantage because they are not taking them all at once (!) but can take 1-2 per semester instead. Also, it allows for a lot of electives and a student can take multiple languages. My son benefited from having 4 classes every day rather than the block schedule of 6-7 randomly throughout the week. Juggling the course load was much more manageable. Teachers love being there and it shows. 19 CIF teams. The SDA environment has the feel of a college campus rather than typical rah rah high school. Very happy.

Constant revolving door of principals and vice principals. Some good/dedicated teachers, but a large amount of tenured unmotivated teachers. Very good selection/variety of classes. Ask parents of older students for the teachers to avoid - some of them are very well known. Strongly recommend private school if you can manage it.

Teachers in the San Dieguito Union High School District, which includes San Dieguito Academy, are the highest paid in San Diego County. The district says they pay the best because they hire the best. While there are many absolutely incredible, dedicated teachers at SDA, there are also many who are just there to collect a paycheck. Many teachers are not available before or after school to meet with students. The minute the last bell rings, they bolt. Also, teachers are permitted to do whatever they want during their prep periods, which includes surfing, exercising, etc. Then the teachers grade papers during classes when they should be teaching students. District is overrated in my opinion.

We are delighted with the school. My son made friends right away, even though he was coming from a private school and knew nobody. The program is rigorous, they have a great selection of foreign language classes at high levels, plenty of honor classes and we are very happy with the teachers and the incredibly friendly administration.

I absolutly love this school! What first attracted me to this school was the friendly atmosphere, and I can honestly say that my first expectation has been lived up to. I have always been a bit of the "odd-man-out" in all of my school experiances but at SDA I always feel like I am accepted and welcomed. I have yet to meet one person that has been judgemental here. On my first day i was surprised to see that everyone of the returning students would not hesitate to show you where any of your classes where and most even carried maps of the school! I am so glad that I came to SDA!
