Overall the experience with the principal was not the best when it came to a safety concern for my kids at school. She seems to gossip with staff and choosing sides.

Overall we have been very happy with Chesterton. This is a predominantly military school, but we are not military and "choiced'' into this school since we were unhappy with our homeschool. I have had two kids attend over the past 6 years. When we started, there was another principal and it was great. Then, there was a period of time when we did not have a principal and it showed (lack of communication and school engagement.) However, now that we have had Ms. Grondek for a couple years, I feel like the school has gotten its step back. My second grader is thriving and my now middle-schooler was properly prepared for 6th at a new school. Overall the teachers have been great. We had one bad egg (4th) that thankfully is no longer there, so I am happy that was noted and addressed. If you have the privilege of your child joining Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Discar, or Mrs. Ramsey's classes (to name a few) - they were excellent at creating a positive learning environment and setting up my kids for success. When my son started, he had a terrible time adjusting to school (I'm talking, full breakdown every morning when I had to walk away.) The school counselor and staff were very supportive and helped assist any way possible every morning when this happened. They stayed very calm, and helped him EVERY morning with this transition until it wasn't an issue anymore. There are constantly family engagement opportunities and the principal can always be seen walking around if you need her.

2 years at this school were enough to take my child out of the San Diego school district. Our first year a parent complained to me that the bullying there was a problem, I thought she may have been exaggerating. I owe her and my child an apology.

terrible. they focus more on the students that have parents in the military. other are just not the priority. I had a friend that had her daughter at Chesterton and warned me not to enroll my kids there... I thought why would they be like that.... now I understand why.

I have two special needs boys who are both on 504plans and they allow for accommodations and also help with many of my youngest son's medical needs.

This school helps teach each and every child respect responsibility and allow them all to be ready to learn! I think that respect and responsibility are both huge for a child to be ready to learn and ingage with others!

I don't think there is a number high enough to rate my experience I've had thus far at this school! We absolutley love this school! We as a family are going to be so very sad when it comes time to transfer with the military, and leave this school. We will forever love and be thankful for Chesterton Elementary school! The PTA is so active in the school and it is wonderful! Along with the parent voulteers I think it is great to have the ability to have parents in the action because it allows the ever so important connection needed sometimes for parents to understand fully just how much work, sweat tears and joy are poured into each and every child in school!

I love that this school is not "worksheet" based! My boys are also not ever bogged down with homework it takes them both less than 45 mins to complete all homework including the required nightly reading!

Great teachers who really care about our kids

Both my kids are enrolled here and they are thriving. Even more so with parent involvement. It takes parents and teachers to work together to give our kids the education they deserve

My daughter has attended both 3rd & 4th grade in this school and has done so well.. the school was responsive to concerns involving bullies and always has a great approach to her needs... I loved both Mrs. Borbeau and Mrs. Salvagio.. I can honestly say they convinced my daughter to love school again..

If you have a neurotypical child and your kid is doing well then this is a great school. However if you have an atypical child or one with special needs then this is a terrible school. This school is not for kids with IEPs. They lack the knowledge and understanding that is required to work with special needs kids. I suggest the district get's training for all general education teachers on how to better educate all children using Universal Learning Design and promoting inclusion.

Overall, it's a great school with teachers and staff who care a lot about their students. I appreciate how they go above and beyond. The only downsides are that they don't do holiday performances like other schools and many of the 'mom''s at the school are very clique-y. It feels like high school at times. If you plan on being heavily involved with the parent association or just talk with them, be prepared for a very immature atmosphere.

The teachers I have encountered have been awful and the principal only backs his teachers not his students.

My daughter had a terrible experience at this school with a teacher bullying her. I wound up not sending both my son and daughter for a year. I sent my son back this year and now he is being harassed by his teacher. San Diego Unified School District definitely lacks good quality teachers.

WE LOVE CHESTERTON! It was our first year here after transferring from Florida. The teachers are amazing, office staff is extremely friendly, and my children just love their Principal, Mr. Deridge. The PTA is very involved in all of the schools activities. More parents should get involved! I know I will!

My children love this school! In every school it has it's tidbits as a parent we might not like, but academically this school is phenomenal! The staff is very nice in the office as well as our cross walk gaurs! The teachers are wonderful and really focus on getting your child to strive to where they need to be. It helps when the children get noticed for there work and abilities by having an award ceremony. With there new principal Mr. Deridge he overtakes the school with great pride just like Mr. Delute had done! This school has kept a good rep. And am a proud parent of the Chesterton cheetahs! For a San Diego school near the ghettos you can't beat this school! Excellent excellent!

Wonderful school!! Mrs. daLuz is an amazing teacher & Mr. Delute is a very involved principal! This is my son's 3rd elementary school & without a doubt the best!

When I was in second grade, the teacher never once spoke to me. And in third grade , the teacher only spoke to me once to take my pencils away. I know this was the past and maybe the school has improved, but I had to take it out of my chest. Now, I am a parent.

My son is in 2nd grade and has the best teacher. She is always ready to help and really shows interest in the children. I wish I could have her teach him next year and so forth. My daughter starts K this year and I am sure things will be just as wonderful. My only issue is the cafeteria food options. Hopefully the more parents who go to the school food board we can make postive changes. They serve mozzeralla breadsticks which is not filling and my son would come home hungry so he started to make lunches.
