We looked at other schools nearby. I’m really glad we chose Clairemont. The small school size gives a real community feeling. The academies are a unique approach. They are really just a focus for electives but the cohort setup allows the kids to build closer bonds with each other and make friends they might not have in other environments. My daughter was worried because most her friends were in a different academy. She has maintained those friendships but built so many new ones too. The administration is also wonderful. The principal is very responsive and caring.

I have to say I have really grown to love this CHS community! My kids are thriving in the classroom & in athletics. I love how Special Education student are treated. I only have positive things to say about this school and the administration. The front office staff are THE BEST!!!

Case managers are very involved and the VP oversees all IEPs. The offer study skills classes to students who may be struggling and teachers present material in different ways to help all learners.

Being a small school the admin and staff know all students and are on top of everything and know what is happening on campus. They are big on the circle of friends and very inclusive to student with special needs.

Under a new principal, Clairemont High School is taking great strides in the right direction to improving our school. The leadership is taking great initiative to make sure that all students, regardless of their backgrounds, are being given an equitable educaiton and chances to participate in campus activities.

There is lots of support with homework through the teachers and the ARC after school program. My daughter has always gotten help when she asked for it.

We had one teacher last year that was ineffective and she is no longer teaching at the school. All other teachers have been a great experience.

This is a very tight knit school. They have a pretty good sized special needs student body. The kids are taught to work with them and include them. They just had a special needs basketball game and the stands were full. It was great!

This is my second child at CHS. Both have had excellent experiences. This is a perfect fit for us and I can't imagine another school being better for them.

The amount of homework at Clairemont seems reasonable and relevant.

You will have excellent and not so great teachers at any school, public or private, period. Our experience in 2 years at CHS has been really great with the teachers... lots of energy and passion for their subjects. The one poor experience that we did have was dealt with swiftly after e mailing administration. We received a response and action that same day! You can't ask for much more than that.

As mentioned under leadership, this is a big focus at the school right now. One of the things we love is the high number of special needs students and how mainstreamed they are. The students are really celebrated by their peers with awards and even sporting events... it is truly inspiring.

The Admin team of Principal Dr. Roberson and VP's, Mr. Roberson and Ms. Thomas is outstanding. We have always had excellent response times from any e mail or inquiry we sent. They also host a monthly "Coffee with the Principal" where their team along with counselors are available to provide updates and meet with parents. Their goals are not only academic but building character in their students.

Every teacher we have encountered has been available for tutoring during lunch or after school. Most teachers are very flexible with their students.

Our daughter came from a smaller, private Christian school for K-8. We were a bit nervous starting at CHS last year for 9th grade but have been thrilled with the experience. Being a smaller student body creates a really intimate environment where she feels she knows most kids on campus, no matter the grade. It also allows for lots of opportunity in sports since there are not 100 kids trying out for any given team. We highly recommend Clairemont HS!

The teachers at Clairemont have a strong student support system. They are all willing to help a student before or after school of they need help. Most of them are also offer help during lunch

The administration is worthless as is their counseling department. Teachers that have passion and care for the students are emotionally beaten down by admin and usually leave for other schools. Coaches do not care about athletes and in two cases they have threatened my child with her grade or playing time. In four years I have only tried numerous times to meet with admin regarding numerous concerns and have never received replies or follow ups.
The kids that attend seem to be find as far as how they treat on another and the school has an outstanding programs for special needs children. Until admin and athletics has a major overhaul, don't bother sending your child here,

If your child is classified as "special needs" they have a great program. If your child just needs a little extra help, again depending on the teacher, they won't get it here.

Discipline is inconsistent at this school. Therefore when a child does misbehave the punishment doesn't always "fit the crime". They lack teaching them a lot of basic responsibility.

Most teachers that have passion & truly care on teaching our kids don't have support from admin. Many good teachers have left Clairemont based on how they are treated or changes admin forces them to make because of the stupid "academies" they formed.

Homework really depends on the teacher. However, many teachers we encountered in 4 years don't seem to be on top of grading & entering students work assignments.

This school sucks, only for the staff tho. Students here are very nice and mostly everyone gets along. Staff on the other hand are very bad, a lot of them disrespect students as myself and don't care about their students education. I'm a senior in Clairemont High and the only thing I do not regret is meeting the students here. I suggest you don't allow your student to go here if you want them to have the best grades in their life. They will only get good grades from C's to B's unless they really try. If you want them to have more of a social experience involving friends then send them here. This is my point of view for this school, thank you for taking your time reading this. Have a stellar day!

There are so many unorganized teachers who don't seem to care about students. I can't believe they got rid of the seminar classes. There aren't a wide range of electives or any advance courses to choose from before too.

the school system is stupid too! it seems that they don't even care about our thoughts, opinions, or feelings with the school. they just thew us in to any open class. i wanted art but i didn't get that class. but other people who didn't want art got it! on the first day of school so many people went to the counselors right when they got their schedules. so many students were put in classes they don't even want! Now there are so many usual regular students put together in the same classes as kids that understands things faster and finishes their work faster. I've been with the same seminar students since i was in 6th grade! and every thing went well. now we are stuck with students that are slower.

For my English class right now, half the class didn't turn in this summary. the teacher didn't even tell us specifically what to write and then she graded the people who did do it strictly. and for the people who didn't do it, the is giving them A SECOND CHANCE TO AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING AND GIVING THEM FULL CREDIT!!!! I AM SO MAD RIGHT NOW!!!

for my math class we have a new teacher who is still taking classes like in college or something. and when u are absent she doesn't even care. she just says its your responsibility to make up everything! i was absent for 2 days to go to a funeral and then she gave me a test! i told her that i was absent but she just told me to "oh well, try your best." then i ended up getting a c. then she said we could do test corrections so i corrected my test and turned it in. then she just changed her mind and said she wound't be doing it! on homework she gave us, there will always be problems that she didn't even teach how to do it so i would struggle on it for like 2 hours!

my friend has a different English teacher and the teacher would have an assistant teacher teach the class without the teacher doing anything during class time. The assistant teacher doesn't give out good instructions and never mentioned a certain assignment the students did was actually graded, but instead it was a "practice". Everyone literally failed it and when we ask him about the topic, he avoids it completely.

As a student at clairemont high I dread waking up in the morning and find that the staff and teachers excel in making the students hate life. Very few teachers seem to actually care, and they have their priorities all mixed up. The school's system is constantly screwing up and their website does not even work. Clairemont is an absolutely horrible school

Great drama program, school size just right if you want to have a balance of extracurricular activities (sports, arts) AND academics without being a mere spectator like what your child might experience at the large high schools. Multiple sports fields got a Prop S makeover last year & are first class. Students at CHS have a wide range of skills and talents - and the special education students are included (and welcomed) in extracurriculars such as drama. The Circle of Friends club brings together the special needs students with the rest of the school. AP Biology Bowl team just beat La Jolla High (and Serra High). AP Enviro class is quite popular among college bound students. The French teacher was let go in October due to district budget cuts (and is now at San Diego High-International) but Spanish and German are offered as foreign languages - Spanish up to the AP level & the pass rate is very good. Other SDUSD schools only offer Spanish - we have German too! The principal is less than stellar (ought to be replaced) but the teachers make all the difference along with a good dean of students. A hidden gem of a neighborhood school that welcome others from around San Diego.

Clairemont HIgh school is a GREAT school. It is normally rated low because of the amount of special students who are factored into the test scores. The students are very accepting of the special students and kids who are bussed in and not from their socioeconomic class. This being said, the principal needs to be fired she does a poor job. The AP programs at the school are excellent, especially the history, science classes, and 11th english. The school has decent sports and is a unified body. I'm proud to say I am an alumni of this fine establishment and when viewing it's ranking I was astonished to see it ranked under some of the other schools which I would never even consider going to! The teachers and counselors are helpful and the dean of students is very understanding! Send your kids here!

Clairemont High School is a good school, their Theater Department is the GREATEST! I am a sophomore at Clairemont and I'm an actress there and honestly their theater department is the GREATEST! Clairemont High School has a good College Academy it's called AOBT "Academy of Business and Technology" and trust me everyone who has been in it has graduated from high school thanks to the teachers who help the students! The teachers are very enthusiastic and they are willing to be there for students!
