Madison High School

If your student has an IEP don't be deceived. This high school is not a supportive school. Our case manager was brand new and didn't know more than basic info about ASD. He is a school coach yhat seemed to be trying to supplement his income with another position at school. The case manager stonewalled or ghosted us most of the year. He wouldn't reply to calls, texts, or email and only contacted us when they wanted to complain about something to do with our son's disability. The SLP assigned to our son was very Ableist, and her goal was to tey and force our son into a NT mold instead of actually supporting him in his disability. The nurse wasn't well educated on health issues that accompany autism, and would constantly complain that there was no reason for him to come to the nurse. She sent him back to class when he was having a migraine because it wasn't a physical thing she could evaluate. Many of the teachers would not follow the IEP, and when we filled an CDE complaint ( which is usually handled by the local school district) the administration completely stopped communication with us and they also stopped accepting our son's work and assignments for the class we had complained about, which resulted in him failing the class. The CDE complaint form is purposely made so the complaint has to be summarized and that makes it harder to show the proof. When we requested to provide more documents we had no reply. The principal is just a figurehead and doesn't involve himself in the affairs of the school. The teacher in the class of complaint allowed other students to tease and bully our son, and then claimed he was being overly sensitive.

My child went to CHS for 2years and switched to Madison high school, so I give you the honest opinions here. CHS needs to improve the discipline of students. There are students who bring bad stuff to school every where (it’s way more at CHS maybe due to the nature of family dynamics) but the difference between the 2 schools, Madison faculty staff are not afraid to conduct backpack searches and call the parents right away whereas CHS had never done even though I had suggested them to do. CHS is not competitive in sports sadly (never seen a game they won at football, basketball, they are great at waterpolo) whereas Madison is in higher division and winning a lot of games in many sports. There are many students who shine in athletically and academically at Madison. Now sure why Madison is getting such a low rate here but to me, Madison has a higher quality of excellence in teachers and students themselves. I’ve never felt uncomfortable with Madison kids in football games but many of CHS students were disrespectful towards adults and I’ve even seen someone vaping in the crowd. No teacher was spotted there. Many cases of threatening at CHS, never heard at Madison in 2years.
I would like to say thank you to the teachers and vice principal to lead my child to the right path.

My kids started their Senior and Sophmore year at Madison and both love it. The teachers/administration are excellent and treat the kids & parents like they are all part of the big Madison family. It’s pretty special. My kids came from a school where some kids were driving $40,000 cars, it was very pretentious & stressful for all the wrong reasons. I ask them all the time if they regret our move & coming to Madison and they always tell me that they love Madison & have no regrets. Plus they have made some really great friends. Sure, Madison is an older school that needs some updating and a fresh coat of paint in some areas, but don’t judge a book by its cover. Madison is a excellent school that is very welcoming with supportive teachers/staff & a great student body. Go Warhawks!

Madison has a diverse population of students, caring faculty and staff and a great athletics program! My daughter will be graduating in 2016 and I feel she will be more than ready to move on to a 4 year college, thanks to the wonderful teachers she has had throughout her experience at Madison. Go Warhawks!!
