This school is extremely large in a bad way, the teachers cannot control the students, and students do not feel valued.

I am a student at Marshall Middle. it is a great school I love it. but I would like to relocate all the bees as quickly as possible this school deserves a five-star review after all the bees are gone.

We have been thoroughly impressed with this school and its teachers. Our son went to Montessori schools all the way up to grade 7. There were principles he learned that gave him a good foundation but we are very happy that we moved him to MMS for his 8th grade and wish we had done so sooner. The teachers have been amazing, inspiring, thoughtful, kind and knowledgeable. He has never been happier and we are very grateful to this amazing school.

I'm enrolled in this school. Most teachers are very nice and will not only teach you, but get to know you as an individual too. Some teachers I won't recommend, but if you're lucky, you'll have teachers you love all throughout middle school. I've met so many of my current friends here and majority of the students are very nice.

I do recommend this school. I used to go to Marshall. The length of the classes is awesome and the teachers are great and help you in most instances. Some things I didn't particularly enjoy about Marshall is the overload of tests. That really was not necessary and when I got to high school they had just a little more tests than Marshall. It was stressful to keep track of homework and tests but it wasn't impossible. The kids are ok but most curse and use inappropriate words. There were some teachers, such as Mrs. Rick, who really helped me and explained a lot of math that I was stuck on. I love the grading and how you have social studies one semester and science the next (only in 6th grade though). Overall I do recommend this school and its a brilliant place for young minds.

If your child needs extra support and attention, this school will absolutely let your child fall through the cracks and of course when your child does fall through the cracks the teachers blame you.

There are racists students, sexist teachers, and skewed administrators. You can expect to hear the racist word that shall not be named multiple times a day, be robbed, and beaten up. Gave it a 2 stars because there are a couple good teachers, but in general, the school is not a fun place to be.

Leadership is as bad as it can gets. Students perform well on test are not because of leadership but parents involvement, after all, this is an affluent neighborhood. Teachers qualities are not even, we had first hand and honored to experience the most dedicate teacher in one of the science class. On the other hand, we also had a horrendous unprofessional teacher on the other class, on-line shopping during class, multiple times. Obviously, the leadership is either incompetent or don't care. After all, their jobs are guaranteed for life. Never seen a bad teacher being fired nor a good teacher being rewarded. There you go.

It all depends all the teachers. Most of the teachers have lukewarm attitude toward homework, but few of the ones that care are really detail and give good quality homework. It totally depends on the draw of luck
for class assignment.

Just as mentioned above, there are few excellent ones, and there are few unprofessional ones that doing on-line shopping during the class.

Most teachers are subpar, with a few exceptions. It seems teachers have lost their passion and are just holding a comfortable job with good benefits till they retire.

There is no supervision at lunch time, in the bus, or at the PE locker rooms. Class sizes are so large that it is impossible to control what goes on.

The experience at MMS is underwhelming. This school is not what it seems. Most teachers are subpar (there are a few exceptions, such as Mr. Brown, the music director). We keep having issues with teachers who don’t teach, innefficient use of time while at school and then 2 to 3 hours of unnecessary homework to make up for teachers drifting into their own ideas instead of teaching.

Kids are given useless busywork, rather than useful reinforcement of the lessons they went through during the day. Too much senseless homework.

I went to Marshall for two years, and I loved it. I am now graduated from highschool and have since attended 4 different schools, however looking back I found I was most challenged academically and creatively during my years there. I was in the seminar program, and I loved almost every teacher I had. Learning was exciting, invigorating, and taught in a hands on, creative, non-traditional way. The campus was beautiful, and the arts programs were spectacular. My one complaint would be the intensive homework load, especially at such a young age, and before and after school traffic was horrible. To make it to school on time plan on leaving at least a half hour before you wish to arrive.

My son has been here all 3 years and all 3 years I have to find out he has issues when the report card comes out. Truth about class size is inaccurate....38 kids per class is more accurate. The counselor that my son has is full of excuses when it comes to his "fidgeting" and told HIM that he needs medication. Who does that? Yes I get they are teaching the kids to be responsible, but lets remember, they are still kids and the lack of communications from teachers to parents is sub par at best.

The school is not what it seems. I sent my daughter with high expectations. She is a b student. She got bullied, no one did anything. She was struggling with the time schedule, I was told that's the way it is. She was given a lot of busy work but she was never challenged.
The music class was really good. The campus is clean and has a beautiful surrounding area.

We were very disappointed in Marshall. There are significant racial divisions that make it very difficult for any non-white child. We also found that there was no way for our daughter to move into more challenging classes after she had been incorrectly placed following our move. There were some teachers that were outstanding. We moved school districts after one year we were so disappointed.

I agree that this school can be callous towards those students outside the academic main stream. Your well-behaved 8th grader IS going on to High School but with a couple of poor classes will be told not to even show up for school on promotion day at the end of the year. The Principal says there are no exceptions so even if your child's grades are impacted by a disability and s(he) worked really hard, don't expect to be celebrating the successful end of the school year with him/her and friends. Standing behind a policy that has no other purpose but to prevent a disabled graduating student celebrating promotion is neither a good or necessary position. It is a shame because there are many good and innovative practices and policies and MMS but this one should be thrown out.

Marshall is a great school, academically. However, I don't think they treat the students in regular as they should. I have one daughter in gate at marshall and another in regular. My daughter in regular usually has a positive attitude about school, but, she really dislikes what her teachers treat her like. One of her teachers was comparing them to the gate students, saying how bad they were compared to her gate students. It made my daughter's self esteem go down by much. The teachers in regular are also not very good. They just have you copy out of notebooks day after day. Although, my gate student comes home every day with something creative from school to do. My point is that, marshall should respect regular students more than they do.

MMS is an excellent school. The principle, teachers, and staff make great team. The school has very good music program and lots of activities.

This school is absolutely excellent. I am currently an 8th grade student at Marshall, and I am extremely thankful to have gone to such a great school. Entering Marshall, I had heard many 'horror' stories about the troubles of Middle School. Upon my entrance, I immediately found that the staff, teachers, principal, and students are very nice and helpful. Although the size of the school is daunting, you will quickly learn how the school works very quickly, whether it be by yourself, or with someone helping you. Once you learn what to do and where to go, you may enjoy many of Marshall's great offerings (i.e. Clubs, Electives, etc.). All in all, I am disappointed that I have to leave such a great school, I've made many friends here, and I only hope that I can have a similar experience next year when I enter High School.

It is a great school. The principle and vice principle are very nice, but have you ever have to go to the front office and try to get help? Especially, if you are a non Caucasian then expected to be ignore for at least 5 minutes or longer wait. I heard from non Caucasian parents said that "they are only cater to the white people".

The school has an excellent music program (more specifically, performing arts) and it has been improving every year. Teachers are phenomenal and students are nice (some snobby, but they go off to private schools so they won't be a hassle to your kids for long).
