My son has been at MBHS for 4 years and he has loved it. It has been a great High School experience for him. The IB program is very rigorous and excellent.

Not sure how the school is rated 10/10 on advanced courses. The school only has 5 AP CLASSES and one UC college class.

This school is poorly run all around. Homecoming is a joke. Barely existent. If you have a student athlete, consider going elsewhere. This athletic program is so poorly run and so political, it disappoints athlete after athlete. ASB is poorly run and the teacher indoctrinates her beliefs to the students. It’s as though the teachers and staff (not all but most) try to just make it through the day. Some classes are taught online with no teacher. So sad I ever sent my kids to this school.

They don’t input it in their grade book and often lose it. My child has had to repeat assignments up to three times and often loses credit due to their mistake.

If your child is failing, they do nothing, just let her fail. No parent contact, and they lose homework often. Very unorganized.

They make no effort to get to know the kids. They just pass them through.

The principal is not very involved, he started off enthusiastic but most school events there’s not even an administrator. (ie: talent show).

My 3 children had great experiences at Mission Bay High School and are now all attending excellent 4 year universities. The lack of pretension and external pressure leaves room for students to seize opportunities and challenge themselves. The International Baccalaureate program is there for students who really want to take it to the next level. The administration is very accessible. I am proud that my children attended MBHS. What's even more important is that they loved it.

Muy mala si un estudiante en particular esta pasando por cualquier dificultad y el joven ocupa ayuda el personal correspondiente no apoyan en nada solo hablan muy bonito. Y el estudiante igual con el mismo problema ya sea personal o social.

People ask me often why we sent our daughter to Mission Bay. Our local school is, by many metrics people use, a much “better” school. The answer, of course, is “it’s complicated” but as she is now a few months into her 3rd year there I can say with confidence we don’t regret the choice. She came to the school knowing no one, and was accepted into the community. She came as a non-athlete, and was able to participate in sports, and discovered some she actually likes! She came as a student who loves learning, and found teachers who challenged and supported her. The current principal started there the same year she did and we have seen steady changes and improvement each year. No school is perfect, and this one is no exception. Because so many of the students come from outside the local area (us included) it is a challenge for the school to build a cohesive community. They do keep trying, and I applaud their continued efforts. Additionally, my daughter has found that many of her classmates are not as academically focused as she is. That is to say, they don’t seem to care as much about school and classes as she does, which annoys her, but has not had a negative impact on her own habits, and has helped her better identify people to hang around with (or not). All that said, she has been very happy there, and this year, her first in the IB program, has seen her challenged in exactly the way we hoped. This school is absolutely worth a look, visit and decide for yourself.

I am not happy with the education my child is getting at this school neither how the school deals with the students. I never get information about whats going on on time. My child has A's but doesn't learn anything and that tells me that the teachers are not teaching right. All the rules has changed in this school and has made it a unhappy learning environment for my child. My child comes home and tells me how unfair it is at that school. How they make decisions about the students go through with out even getting the opinion of the students. Recent one that really upset me was how every student is going to have the same color gown and how the students in honers are not going to be awarded the same as other years and the students had no idea this was going on and how they have no say in it no more. That I believe is a really unfair thing the school did behind the students backs and all they wanted is to wear a white gown on graduation day but they ripped that away including all their hard work to get that.

There are great opurtunities at this school if your child is willing to seek them out. While I felt that some if the classes may have been a little easy, a comparison of my son's work from earlier in the year to later showed a vast improvement across the board. He loves his school and finds most of the teachers are very approachable. he is bussed in and has never felt singled out by teachers/staff in any way, in fact, he feels that his teachers have taken a real interest in his academic success. The school offers free tutoring for two hours after school M-TH, and teachers are often available at lunch. There is no reason a child at MBHS shouldn't be learning. We are nervous about him entering the full IB program next year, but are confident that it will thoroughly prepare him for college.

The New Principal, Mr Ernie Remillard, was the Principal from my SOn's middle school and I have nothing but positive feedback on My Remillard, I know he can and will turn this school around. Even with 70 % of the student coming from other city location, he can make a difference the the curricula and is adding a music class this year. I am excited to see the turnaround

Mission Bay is filled with many students and parents that care about a great education, a good sense of community, and this school is filled with talented kids ! There are more great teachers than bad ones who really get to know the kids who want to learn and help the kids that want to learn and may not have help from parents at home. The Music program is amazing , the sports teams thrive and my kids love their school - Go Bucs

A great school has excellent teachers and MBHS has that. The vast majority are enthusiastic and dedicated. There is also dead wood that are just filling a spot and protected by tenure and the unions, like any public school. All teachers are challenged by uncertainty with the schools the dysfunctional SDUSD Board. There are excellent VPs but the school lacks clear leadership and follow though. There are excellent challenging programs but it is the choice of the student to go the challenging path of IB or just show up and get through the rudimentary classes. Students will be surrounded by other excellent students in IB and other high level classes. Those who choose the other path will be surrounded by kids with varying levels of motivation and frustrated teachers. It's all there at MBHS! An excellent real world learning experience in a safe environment. I see it improving over the last 5 years and into the future as more parents get involved, the community gets involved & more local kids choose to go here. It's great for kids to have classmate friends in the local neighborhood rather than commutng to a distant school and being out of touch with your local community.

NOT A GOOD SCHOOL. School authorities are not doing a good job. My children are new in this high school and I already met 10 parents who have complains about how they are not happy on how the school authorities work. Moreover, I personal have been in this school and observed how students are outside their classes, going to the bathroom 3 or 4 times the same the same students and nobody call their attention.

Now that our student is just about ready to graduate from MBHS I have to say MBHS and staying in our neighborhood schools K-12 was the best decision we could have made. Thanks to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme our student not only has had an excellent education but also a well rounded high school experience including sports, music, art and summer educational trips with the MBHS Travel Club to China, Russia and Egypt. Most of all, we appreciate our student's diverse set of peers and the kindness and support they have displayed for each other throughout the years. My recommendation to parents who send their students to MBHS is to get involved - meet the teachers, join the PTO, attend sport events etc. It has been an unexpected pleasure to really get to know the dedicated MBHS teachers and also to have become friends with so many fabulous and like minded parents.

MBHS continues to get more local familes deciding this is a good place to send their kids. Yes, it is challenged by the budget cuts and the huge and unweilding SDUSD politics. The IB program sets it apart and provides for additional sources of funding and academics continue to strengthen. Don't expect an efficient and customer service oriented administration like a private school. Do expect to find most of the teachers excellent and committed and a very few rotten apples protected by the teachers union. It is a very safe real world environment. Also, your student will have a better chance of acceptance at a public college / university if they graduate from here versus a high acheiver private school. Yes, students come from all over San Diego to MBHS. But, they do it because they want to take advantage of either the athletic programs or academic programs it offers. The local PB students and their families are involved in the school and the local community. Check it out!
