The teachers are harsh on the students (speaking from experience) and when I was being bullied and told my parents and staff members about it the principal told my mother to stop calling her which shows that they just allow the disrespectful students to roam and continue being rude. Do not recommend this school.

I was able to get my son into this school via the Choice Program (we are out of district in National District) and I am more than pleased with my experience. My son went to an exceptional preschool ran by San Diego State, and the transition to regular school was definitely nerve wracking. My son was lucky enough to have Mr. Parker as his first teacher and he is exceptional. He is very honest about your child and their progress, leads his classroom with respect, and communicates promptly on Class Dojo about any questions and concerns.
The school does an excellent job of sending announcements via class Dojo, and the ladies in the office are super helpful.
The homework load is more than I would have expected for Kindergarten, but my son is able to complete most of it at Primetime, and I believe its allowed him to excel in reading, writing and math.
Drop off can be a bit chaotic as there is only one stretch of curb for parents to drop off, and it results in a lot of double parking and being blocked in, but if you arrive early, or are simply letting your kid out of the car it can be navigated.
I just found out my daughter got in for TK and I couldnt be more happy.

The principal is nowhere to be seen from students and parents. She does not try to engage with others. My child only sees her when she is yelling at students to behave (ie. talking too loudly while in line). She makes students do laps during their recess for misbehaving. Ive never seen her at any of the few school events offered or at award ceremonies. The rest of the admin staff in the office are unwelcoming. Other than testing and high scores, they care a lot about funding but we have no idea where that goes. They do not hold many events or fundraisers like other nearby schools in the same neighborhood cluster do nor do they encourage or allow parent involvement or PTA. There are no pizza parties or celebrations. There was only an Open House event and either another one or a Back to School even which the principal was not present at. They were supposedly going to have an event for the end of the year but that didnt happen. The education and overall experience your child will have here all depends on which teacher they get so having a great teacher will make all the difference. My kid was lucky most years with great teachers but had a terrible year due to a horrible teacher. The main focus subjects are math and English which are why the ratings are so high. Science, history, arts, etc are considered extra and optional if the teacher offers it.

Caution! Dont let the great schools rating fool you. This school is definitely not a place you want your children to go, Especially if they have any life outside of school work. They overload the students with copious amounts of work. They only thing this school cares about is test scores. If you dont want your child spending 3hrs a day doing homework then look elsewhere! The staff is rude and students are overly stressed. It doesnt seem like they even care about students they only care about funding. The staff at this school treats these kids like they are in the military. My child was even forced to throw away his lunch from an aggressive male staff member because he brought a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. This school has been a nightmare!

I don't know what happened to this school but it has gone absolutely downhill the last 2 years. The leadership is absolutely appalling. During this pandemic I've had several children doing the hybrid learning. The teachers here are so mean. MEAN!!! They scream, yell, berate the students. They have absolutely no patience whatsoever. And we're not just generalizing because of one teacher. It's several. You complain to Administration and they do absolutely nothing. That's probably why these teachers continue this behavior. I do not recommend this school at all. Whatever Nye once was, it does not represent what Nye is now.

Yes they have an effective approach with children with disabilities although there are not many at Nye.

There's one or two teachers that give a ton of homework but overall most of the teachers are reasonable when it comes to homework.

The majority of the teachers are very good.

Most of the teachers try to instill these characteristics in the students.

The school consistently scores pretty high that's because of the teachers most of the female teachers are very effective. I think the male teachers with the exception of one need to go. They seem ready to go in retirement mode. But there is one male 3rd grade teacher who is the greatest and I hear wonderful things about him. He arrived at Nye about 2 or 3 years ago so he's relatively new and very enthusiastic. He's a good teacher!

Nye staff and overall environment is welcoming. The staff genuinely care about their students and strive for excellence. I highly recommend this school. The school provides great after school programs and activities. Its kept my daughter busy and she absolutely loves her teachers and the supporting staff. Nye has become our family. We have developed close friendships with other Nye parents so the support system is strong between all of us.

Academically speaking, Nye is the best elementary school in the area (hands down) . Every school is going to say they're the best but the proof is in the scores and if you do the footwork you'll find the information. Compare the scores of this past school year (2014-2015) to other elementary schools in South East San Diego area and there's no comparison. That alone should be enough to enroll your children into this school. Nye is always the top 1 or 2 schools in the area. It's in a good safe neighborhood, school is immaculate and all the parents you'll interact with are pretty nice. I've never had any issues with crazy moms or dads..lol. Quite a few of the teachers are firm, but they are excellent teachers. Your child will learn, so if you feel you have a strict teacher, hang in there, it does pay off and the majority of the teachers do care for the students' well-being. I have 3 kids enrolled now and my 4th just graduated last year and he's at middle school now. Middle school has been pretty much a breeze for him and I attribute it to his excellent teachers at Nye. I'm grateful to have this school for my kids and would recommend it to anyone.

My children have been going to this school for the last few years. This school year a new principal was hired by the Superintendent which allegedly had parent input. This is the wrong principal for this great school. The morale for both the children and staff has greatly diminished in the past few months. The principal is never available and though states that she has an open door policy, it's very clear this is not the truth. In past years we have had good interaction with the past principal yet this principal appears very standoffish and appears that her priority is not the children. I am concerned that with morale so low, that the great teachers at the school will leave and the quality of education will decrease. I am concerned that special education will be the highlight for this school and feel that the regular students will be ignored. What I feel has been a great school with the highest test scores in this area will start to go downhill with the leadership in place. It saddens me that I may have to move my child because of where this school seems to be headed.

This will be my son's fifth year as a Nye student and I couldn't be any more satisfied with the education that he has recieved. My son has an IEP and the services that are provided to him help him to maximize his fulliest potential and be the best student he can. Thank you Nye

As a parent,My dauhgter has been going here for almost 3 years. This is the BEST school (elementary school) ive ever seen. I prefer this school for anyone looking for a good elementary school. Every Student deserves this school. Every single staff including the teachers and principals are amazing and care about the students. The principal even stands outside in the parking lot saying "good morning" to everyone. I love this school i wish when my daughter leaves this school i can find another school just like this one. This school is great you have to come here. :)
