This school is terrible. Most of the teachers act like they hate the students. The principal is arrogant and rude to families. Counselors, VPs and principal don’t care about student outcomes and are unresponsive to parents. If you want to thrive, go somewhere else.

I left this school after only one single year attending. A good family friend attended this school for all four years, and was so unprepared for college and had such little guidance from their counselor that they had no idea how to even start the process. The faculty here, staff members and teachers combined, have absolutely no care for the well being of the students. Counselors do next to nothing for their students, and are never prepared to actually help kids with their futures. I had such a terrible experience at this school, for countless reasons. So many of the teachers here should not be working in this profession to begin with. Horrible management of students, overall poor preparation, and had many teachers that clearly just hated working with teenagers. The overall student body is not supportive in any manner, and I, a person with severe anxiety, constantly felt overwhelmed and overstimulated every single day of attending this school because of the overall attitude of students and teachers. Bullying and harassment is common, and I heard people shouting an array of derogatory slurs during every class period almost every single day, with zero disciplinary action from any staff, even when it was done right in front of them. I left this school as soon as I possibly could, and highly recommend that you do not, by any means, choose this school for your child. Their needs will not be met, they will suffer the consequences of unmotivated and rude faculty, and will not be prepared at all for their future and later life choices.

The school needs to understand that diversity is not one black person out of a group of white people. My daughter would come home crying because she said that people didn’t want to be friends with her because she didn’t look like the other student. When I told her counselors about how she felt they didn’t really do anything. So please if you are a person of color consider going to another school.

I have no idea as a parent ( studious child) how teachers prepare students for success. It looks likes this yet another school where kids go and come back home with minimal learning. Don't see any effort by the school to help students to exceed expectations. Very disappointed.

On tr outhe surface, this looks like a beautiful school in a nice neighborhood. But looks can be deceiving. I am so sorry that I sent my daughter here for two years and am anxiously awaiting the end of the school year so I can facilitate her transfer.
The ethics at this school are questionable at best. Aside from the AP cheating scandal that was in the paper, cheating is rampant throughout the school on multiple levels. The student body is composed of affluent, entitled children from homes that encourage achievement at all costs. It seems like the main lesson learned at this school is that results matter most, how you achieve them is secondary as long as you don't get caught.
The sports department is very poor. If your child is an athlete, there are better options than this school. San Diego Unified in general seems underfunded in athletics--there are less referees on the field for soccer and football games and there are no team buses. That's right, if your child has an away game, you (or your car pool) are driving them.
Overall, I am so disappointed in the high school experience that my children have received at Scripps Ranch High School and I am sorry I bought a home in the area so they could go to this school.

Previous Principal was horrendous. Does not care about the students treated parents like dirt. Still waiting on permanent leadership. Head Counselor appears to hate kids and is never there. Won't help students get a schedule that fits their needs and goals. Too many teachers that don't care anymore and can't teach. Why can't they find decent math teachers for this school? Students treat each other horribly. (Can't blame that all on the school though). Time to clean house. Actually SDUSD is horrible. AP testing scandal brushed under the rug. No accountability on any level. Let's see this school make the news for something good just once. Choice into any school you can before having your child attend this school. Test scores are high because parents can afford tutors, not because teachers can teach.

Coming from another school district, SRHS has been quite a shock. The staff from the finance counseling departments to the A.D. are horrible! Difficult and flat out rude. There seem to be no procedures in place, either academically or in the athletic department whatsoever. I don't know how they get anything done. In addition, my kids tell me they smell pot on campus daily. Definitely some good teachers, but administration needs changes ASAP!

If your student is thinking about playing for the SRHS womens soccer team and does not have a "personal connection" with the varsity coach or is a competitive player, do not waste their time.

A player's skill level and ability is not a qualifier to making his roster. SRHS womens soccer is only about the coaches power and control to entitle his own personal/SDSC players on the field. Review his past rosters and team results, being on his roster is meaningless.

1999 was the last time SRHS had a competitive womens soccer team, look at that particular roster. He was just the beneficiary of having several Surf Elite players that lived in Scripps Ranch on the team. The presence of this coach at SRHS is political and has nothing to do with his productivity or lack thereof as a coach.

You can say that he's been a soccer coach forever, that is a fact. But to define his ability as a coach look at the level of the club he is coaching for, the level of play of the club teams he has coached, and the level of success of SRHS womens soccer. That pretty much sums it up.

If you're still not able to figure out
what is happening here, you are probably a good fit for his team. Good luck at what they like to call womens soccer team tryouts at SRHS.

Mostly every student there was corrupt and had no manners. I survived with a 2.8 and needed to take summer school. If you are a freshman and attempting to take any advanced classes please caution.

As a student who moved across the country during Sophomore year to this school, I have a few things to address.
Please stop crying about the "over-privileged, snobby rich kids". Not everyone is judgemental, and it's not the school's responsibility to ensure social acceptance. It's impossible. They can't do that.
Scripps Ranch has over 2,000 students, and if you can't find at least one friend within that vast population, you can't blame the school.
The school itself is wonderful. There are so many opportunities and very talented students and teachers. Yes, some of the staff can be rude, but no school is perfect. And dealing with rude people is a part of life. Most of the higher level teachers are genuinely interested in furthering students' academic success.
If you're in a lower placement class, it's not uncommon to experience lower class teachers. That's just how it is in almost all schools.
This school has provided me with so much regarding academics and extracurriculars. There's just so much to do and experience and a lot of the students fail to see that because they don't "fit in". I honestly think you're just looking in the wrong places for the wrong things. Take advantage of this school, because it really is a great school.

This school has nice test scores and many kids have high grades, but a student will find themselves unhappy here because of the community. People here aren't very welcoming and they're very judge mental. I wouldn't say that the school should take credit for making the kids smarter, which is providing high SAT scores etc, but it's the kids themselves that do the work. Students here are very competitive and have drive, and a lot of them also have outside-of-school tutors because they can afford it. There are good teachers, but then of course there will be bad ones. The 'bad' ones are usually lazy, they don't really like to teach they kids and give them a better understanding of the material. The good teachers are usually hands-on and are fun to be around. The counselors are nice but from my experience with my counselor, she treated me poorly when my grades were low but once I raised them up she treated me with respect like everyone else. She also told private information about my grades to another student, who was related to me, yet I feel that was an invasion of privacy and that she shouldn't have done that. Most of the faculty is nice, the lunch staff is sweet. The women in the office are horrible and have no patience at all and are constantly rude to the kids. The nurse is often rude as well and makes smart remarks towards the students. The security guard and officer for this school are pretty nice people. I would say go to this school if you're looking for colleges to see you went to a High school with good test scores, etc. I wouldn't however recommend this school because again, the kids are just mean. They're judge mental and there's a lot of cliques. Of course there are a few nice people here and there, but majority of the people are stuck up.

This school tells school that placement tests will not affect child in any way then it affects placement when child does not try their best. They tell me that they have 30+ years experience,and there attitudesare similar to 30 years ago as well.

About the negative reviews on this school, all i have to say is that it really differs from what you choose. For example, one says that the kids in class are always sleeping and doing nothing, but that's for lower level classes such as regular biology. This is so because the students are not that intelligent or, as mostly the case, not that willing to do homework. This is why the teacher does not force you that much, because you choose to be in a easier class. In AP or Honors, everybody is crazy studying.

I would never go back to this school. This is filled with snobby rich white kids who are only open to being friends with other snobby rich white kids. I felt so alone at this place. The teachers were unsupportive of me while I was going through a rough time during the months I attended. Staff only favors the overachieving, upper middle class kids. Don't go here if you're not any of that. Attend MMHS, it's much more lively and accepting.

SRH is an extremely backward school. Parents that expected something like Marshall Middle will be very disappointed - almost zero use of the web for posting hw assignments or class materials, a block schedule that makes no sense, a private web site that seems to distance the school from standard DIstrict information and supports including the more functional web pages for the teaching staff. Academics at this school are not as good as they appear since, despite being a neighborhood public school, it seems that they find ways to eliminate some of their lower performing students. Obviously, the neighborhood is not very diverse and so neither is the school but it sounds like a prejudiced 'coding' in those the reviews that mention the wish that outsiders could be kept out of this school. Teachers are mostly OK, with relatively few in the weird and bad, category, the behavior of many of the top administration is atrocious in ways you will not have experienced before as they show complete lack of normal civility and professional behavior towards students and parents. I am looking forward to my children leaving this school.

The school and academics is great but the extra curricular activities such as sports was a let down when I witnesed it for myself that the unfairness, politics, and the little racisim that still exists amongst the students in this school. Aside from grades and gpa sports is a very big part of my child's life and is a big factor when colleges look at accepting a student. My review is based on two years of witnessing this unfairness and happened to wait an extra year to see if it was just coincidence. Big let down staff and students...

Scripps Ranch High School is amazing! The teachers and faculty are involved with the students, they're helpful, and they include ALL students in activities. The classes are challenging but teachers do offer tutoring almost every day (depending on the teacher) AND the teachers are friendly and understanding so if you do not understand a certain subject or you need extra help, there's afterschool tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school for an hour and that includes ALL subjects. Math, language, science, english, EVERYTHING. Scripps Ranch High is the best to go to!

WORST SCHOOL EVER! It is full of bullies and mean people. The teachers never teach and are so annoying. The so-called "Block Schedule" sucks. You have to sit in a class for 2 HOURS and do nothing. The school also doesn't have A/C and the heat barely works. In the morning, the classes are freezing cold and people usually fall asleep during class. Then during the afternoons people are sweating and the class smells really bad. The bathrooms at this school are nasty. They smell really bad and they don't even have paper towels. They have really cheap hand dryers that blow cool air and most of them are broken. And don't get me started on the rat problem. There are rats in the ceiling everywhere. They chew stuff up and are disgusting.

Excellent school. I really don't know why so many people decide to leave Scripps or have there children not attend it in favor of a private school. Scripps is much closer to most of those parents and the school's scores and alumni rival that of many private schools. Maybe they don't like the kids that aren't native Scripps Ranch (which makes up a small minority of the population, but noticeable) and I tend to agree, but that's up to the district not the school. I give the school a 4.9 out of 5 if I could and would give a complete 5 if they would do the right thing and only let local kids go here.

San Diego's Finest! This school is absolutely terrific. Teachers actually teach students and do a superb job of doing it. Moving from Minnesota was the hardest thing in my kids' lives and transferring from Champlin Park High was quite an adjustment. Students here are phenomenal and extremely intelligent (somewhere around 98% of kids go to college or something like that). My family moving from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota will always be difficult, but my kids totally enjoy this school and have made many life-long friends in the process.

Beautiful campus and superb teachers make this school the one I sent all of my kids to, plus I convinced some neighbors and family members to send their kids as well! I was given with the choice of choice-in to this school or a Mira Mesa high school. I chose this school due to their phenomenal test averages (nearly everyone passed the CAHSEE). I will say though that I wish the school would only "cater" to people who actually live here.

Memories in the making! Teachers are great (except for some science), but the staff (non-teaching) could have some imrovement. Principal not as good as the old one, doesn't let some people do things (like programs for children in Africa!). The arts could use some improvement. Going from the phenomenal marshall arts to scripps was like night and day, and not in a good way. Other than that, great school...no school is perfect but the other positives make up for it!!

What up with parents sending their kids to Cathedral? This school is a million times better. Not only does it have not snobby prissy brats, but it has great loving kind students who are hardworking and willing to make the world a better place. The school is diverse when it comes to the political spectrum, religious and ethnic one as well. Bullying is not a huge problem and the underperforming kids are not from Scripps Ranch so they do not reflect the school accurately. Kids are taught life lessons and teachers are fantastic and have made a difference in my child's life when they were feeling down and depressed. So once again, I beg you, do not send your child to some stuck up private school with out considering the phenomenal free education they could be receiving here at Scripps!

A quality education for the price: FREE! I cannot believe that my kids receive a private level education for free. The kids here are humble and so kind with nearly everyone having their cute little friend groups. The teachers here are phenomenal. This school beats any private one anyday! A school that has vastly improved over the years (not to say it was bad to begin with). The students here are hardworking and dedicated and most get in to the best colleges in the U.S. The teachers (the large majority of them) are the best around and work for a low salary but give a private school-level education to all. Attention should be drawn to the fact that this review refers mostly to advanced and honors/AP students only. Classes are challenging but not impossible and most students have the time of their lives here. I think it's a hypocrisy that this "oh-so-lowly-public-school" has a higher rating than Cathedral (5 star average this year for us and a 2 star average for them...that's just ridiculous), a school that regularly steals our students, many who come back the next year.

The best school to send your children to in a lifetime. The diversity there is superb. I transferred by child to Cathedral during Sophmore year and she begged me to put her back in Scripps by Junior year. Best decision I ever made with her. Now she's off to college, a good one at that, and Scripps helped her every step of the way. Such a friendly atmosphere. Though one thing, the staff (not the teachers, but the other members, office, etc.) are not the friendliest I've ever encountered. The staff a mere two years ago was certainly the best I've ever seen. Unfortunately, they are off with even better jobs. It's a shame. And like the person shown below wrote, it is a top 200 school, in the entire United States! Now if that's not an accomplishment, I don't know what is. After all, there are a little less than 30,000 high schools throughout this nation! Please send your child to this school. The children are friendly and some quite enthralling and absolutely hilarious. I do wish the arts program here the best, since many have received pink slips and the drama program was nearly cut.

This school is the best school, top 200 in the nation. U should transfer them here immediately The teachers dont give the students any homework. Exceptional level of education and teachers give students so much homework that my son who is in 10th grade doesn't play video games no more.My older son who did basic in testing at Mira mesa now does advanced resulting acceptances from many colleges including a full ride scholarship to Harvard colleges. if you want your childeren to suceed take them to scripps ranch high school. the best highschoool in san diego. The best choice i ever made in my childs life. Its worth renting a place over there to get your children enrolled. Now one of them goes to harvard and the othere at UCLA. Marshall middle is a good school for middles school students. My son left in 10th grade just a week ago. Now my 10th grade son who transfered a week ago is saying that he is learning and his chemistry teacher is giving him so much to learn. He stays after school with UCSD profesers to learn about college as he is going to be the second one from our family to go. My son used to be a video game addict now he doesnt care no more.
