Walker has invested back exponentially into their school over the past decade. Being a STEAM school means our children get exposed to science, math and art concepts in all subjects. They also have great connections to local community sport orgs that offer basketball, volleyball and soccer on campus. The pto/pta are very involved and every Friday the school assembly invites parents to join the school in celebrating those students who show strength in the leader in me philosophy standards the school follows. Tge focus on physical, mental and emotional skills building is so important.

They couldn't provide our child with the structure or consistent support agreed upon in the IEP. The teachers kept referring to his computer scores rather than his actual academic performance. In the same breath they told us they pull him out to work with the class above his, but his computer scores were below grade level. So according to them he was below grade level. We appreciated the effort by one teacher, but it was constantly cancelled out. Between ignoring his IEP needs, lack of behavioral training, and ignoring his actual academic level, our child struggled constantly in the classroom. It negatively affect his mental health. We attended multiple meetings to remedy this environment and provide support to the staff. Eventually the principal shrugged when we suggested pulling him out, and not too long after, we did.

This school is great, and works for my daughter and I. Personally it’s more like family, random I know but it feels good to know she’s safe when I’m away. From the principal all the way down to the staff, everyone is so kind and super involved. My daughter is currently in 1st grade, and started with Walker in Pre- k.

This school has been my daughter's for the last 5 years. They've steadily been disorganized, fail to pass pertinent information until the last minute, and have an over zealous principal who changes routines on a whim causing more confusion. Quality of teachers she's had though the years is horrendous, with the teachers year after year telling at students in her classes like they're not paying attention, but in reality the teachers don't know how to ask straight forward questions if the students.

My daughter used to go to preschool at the Jewish Community Center (JCC) in La Jolla which was very expensive, and has a great reputation, then my husband got laid off and we couldn't afford it. I then found out about Walker, where my daughter went to preschool for the remainder of the year. I was very very impressed with her teachers, her learning, even her manners! She had a wonderful loving environment at Walker. I saw no difference in quality between the JCC and what she received at Walker. I was especially impressed with the Principal, he is very involved with the school and the monthly award ceremony for the kids was so organized and well thought out. I plan to continue to enroll her further at Walker for TK.

This school is TERRIBLE! My daughter went to school here and her regular teacher hasn’t came back to summer break since Christmas break. She has had multiple substitutes and the school hasn’t let us know why the teacher has been gone. I had multiple issues before Christmas break. I haven’t seen no progress with her learning at all.

Moving forward with our new Principal; his energy is contagious to me and all his colleagues down to facility service personnel, it is obvious to me. if you have a chance to meet the Principal you'll know what I mean.

Posted: May 14, 2017

My child learns, participates and is exposed regularly to activities that have allowed to define his strengths and weaknesses. This I feel is possible due to the teachers individual interaction with my child

Bullying is an epidemic which robs us all of productive meaningful experiences. I know at Walker Elementary a strong environment exists that does not tolerate bullying and has strong awareness in place to effectively deal with such occurrences.

2 of my little guys currently attend Walker Elementary School; I know and will forever remember how much of a good experience and learning foundation the school is for my children. Thank You

in 5th grade a weekly syllabus is provided for each student; it outlines what's expected of him to accomplish daily and allows me to follow and understand his daily progress.

They have a great counselor who is always looking for a way to keep values in every event.

Posted: March 16, 2017

They have AIJ (journalist) and games leader to help the little ones.

Posted: March 16, 2017

They have ELD and also they help students learning the language.

Posted: March 16, 2017

They have campaigns to avoid bullying at school.

Posted: March 16, 2017

I could not be disagree with this. They every day has homework for her 4th grade teacher, they have projects almost every 2 months. And in kindergarten and 1st grade they have homework for the whole week.

I have to fortune to find one of the most kind, strong and awesome 3rd grade teacher there. Mrs. Flores she is amazing.

This school is great. I read a lot of bad comments online and I decided to try. My daughters just love this school. They have a. New principal and you can see him running around, directing traffic, eating with the kids, and also he implement learning thru the arts (what I think is great) .

If you can avoid sending your child to Walker, it is highly recommended you do so. The principal is terrible, does not listen to concerns, and seems to be on a power trip. I tried multiple times to talk to the principal to help with issues my son was having there to no avail. The teachers take their cue from the principal and don't care about parent input. They will dictate and act like they are the parents of your child and if you don't like it, you can go to another school (the principal actually said that to me). There are only a few male staff members at the school and the teachers do not know how to deal with boys. They will make their life miserable. My youngest son in now there and is having problems, getting in trouble daily for the most trivial things and having his recess taken away almost every day (twice a day). I will be taking my son out and moving to another school. Stay away from this school if you can.

My son completed Kindergarten at this school and I have the highest possible praise for Mrs. Silentwater that did an excellent job with my son.

This is a horrible school. If you have the option, go to Ericson. The teachers are pretty good and my son seems to like them. The Principal is awful and only cares about collecting a paycheck.

I am impressed with the teachers at this school. They are strict and focused on the children and their education. This is a school for learning, of course they aren't allowed to run around. That is a safety issue and I'm ok with that. My children go to school to learn not exercise they play at home. The administration department could use a class in organization. Overall this school is a great school of diversity, learning, and children focused. Principal is new, but improvement takes time.
