Whitman is a phenomenal school with a vibrant and welcoming community. My daughter started TK this year, and we absolutely love it. She comes home happy every day and has already learned to write her name. Prime time has also been great. The principal and staff are all amazing and there are many new initiatives that are just getting started through the community schools program!

My daughter has entered into her second year at Whitman. We absolutely love our neighborhood elementary school! The teachers, staff and principal are warm, dedicated, and care about every student. This is a small school that truly knows every student, and they even know the names of the younger siblings still in preschool. The school’s cooking and gardening programs add so much fun and hands-on learning to the curriculum, and my daughter looks forward to these activities each week. We especially appreciate the school’s focus on enrichment—there are always creative projects and opportunities for students to explore new interests. It’s a wonderful, nurturing place for children to learn and grow! The afterschool program is also such a blast for my daughter. If you're looking for a small private-like public school, Whitman is the elementary school for your family.

My son Julian is considered a choice student, we live in downtown and commute to Whitman because my son chose to stay in this school for many reasons. He loves the staff at Whitman because they show empathy and passion about their job, he likes that everyone knows who he is (recognition)! What I like about the school is the staffs politeness they show they care they do not judge where one comes from or their situation I feel the acceptance here, not to forget to mention my older son came here too and they still remember his name… this is overall the best school my children have attended and they’ve went to a few others that they chose to wake up every morning at 5am to make the effort to stay with Whitman !!!

As a substitute teacher having taught in many schools, I wanted to recommend Whitman Elementary. It's a hidden gem. The class sizes are small which gives it the feel of a private school atmosphere. There is an abundance of support staff and resources. According to the teaching staff Carly Romero is a hands on principal and is beloved by the students. She is heavily involved with each classroom and she has an open door policy. The low test scores could be due to so many english language learners but with the small class sizes all the students receive so much personal attention. Most of teachers and staff have worked at Whitman for a long time so they must be very happy which shows by their attitude towards their students.

My experience was EXCELLENT! OF COURSE, my experience was from the schools opening and I was in 6th grade...must have been 1957 or so. Highlight: Monty Montana and his horse and rope tricks.

Definitely Not! Both of my students were enrolled with IEP's. Neither of my students reached their anticipated goals because they were never provided the necessary services in accordance with their special needs.

In my opinion, this is a ZERO STAR school with the exception of a few outstanding individuals...Ms. Karen in the office always made me and my students feel welcome, Ms. Maria in the classroom and Mr. Tyler in the classroom consistently showed my kids compassion and caring, unlike their primary teachers!

I totally disagree, my students teachers were dishonest with them and with me, they consistently dismissed their lies as minor mistakes...but, after my kids have been emotionally crushed, humiliated or disrespected, their apologies mean nothing!

In my experience, Dr. Ira Canada, Special Education Site Administrator for
Early Childhood Special Education was so disinterested in providing my students with the extra supports they need, the best description of leadership effectiveness of the ECSE program is "FLACCID & UNINSPIRING"

This school is amazing. The teachers are great, caring and are all about making a difference. The office staff is wonderful. This school is the only one in the entire district that offers an oral program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Whitman is a great school with caring teachers who are making a difference in my child. I special love the extra curricular activities school offers, like an Annie's Art School and Music Villa and Heartlight classes. It is a great place where parents and teachers can offer their students a highly motivated learning environment. Thank you Whitman!

Whitman Elementary is a highly diverse kindergarten through sixth grade school. It has a dedicated staff and very caring teachers. It also has an outstanding music program. All students receive one hour a week instruction in grade level standards based music. Third graders get extra music instruction for learning to play recorders. Fifth and sixth grade students receive a second hour each week for instrumental music. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Villa Musica, an after-school instrumental music program for further instruction and practice. The Whitman PTA puts on Family Science and Literacy Nights, Family Movie Nights, a Spring Fiesta, and more. Our school could be made even better if we could bolster parent participation in the PTA and school functions.

Whitman Elementary, a great neighborhood school in North Clairemont. I have four children who have attended Whitman. The dedication of the teachers is spectacular and they truly care about each student. For my family, attending a small neighborhood school, where my child can be a stand out student and I am invited to volunteer and be a part of the school community is very important. Whitman is a STEM school, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math the abilities needed in todays world. Whitman also has a Music program, an After School Music enrichment program; Villa Musica and Annie's Art School, a great afterschool program for aspiring artists. The PTA is very active. They hold events such as Science Nights, Family Nights and various community outreach events such as the Spring Fiesta this Friday, April 11th with a Salsa contest.. Whitman also has a Deaf and Hard of Hearing program, which specializes in the Oral DHH program from the age of 3. Overall Whitman is a great neighborhood school, with caring Teachers and staff. If you would like your student to attend a school with caring teachers and be prepared for Middle School, Whitman is the school for you.

This school is really trying to help these children as well as my daughter, the teachers help a lot to teach the kids so far I love what I see when get there , they spend a lot of time teaching the children in transitional kindergarten and kindergarten especially the staff in prime time ,appreciate them!

Don't be fooled by the lower API! This school has such a wide range of students of all learning styles and abilities. Children are bused in from all over the district for their Deaf and Hard of Hearing program it's so good. The principal is one of the most caring I've seen. And the teachers really go all out to help each student with their individual needs! The Kinder teacher, Mrs. Kemp is probably the best Kinder teacher you will EVER meet! Our kids learn more here than in a private school. Small and friendly community, and a staff who really cares about the achievement of the children. Amazing!

I went to Whitman Elementary K through half of 2nd grade. And I Loved loved LOVED it there. It was the best Elementary school you can possibly go to, in my opinion. I learned to LOVE music in my years there, it challenged me in ways where I learned a lot more than I did in other schools. I am now an 8th grader and I wish I could go back to that school. The teachers are very enthusiastic about what they do. If you are looking for a good school for you children, I recommend Whitman Elementary School!

I have been so fortunate to have my children and grand-children attend Whitman Elementary School. Whitmans teachers are both caring and have met the all of the individual needs of each child. They have enjoyed the music classes taught by Mr. Wazcek, who I can't say enough about. It is so nice at this day and age to be able to enroll my children in a Family Friendly Neighborhood school. Thanks Whitman and the wonderful Whiman Staff.

Whitman is a gem in the community of Northeast Clairemont. It is a small neighborhood school with teachers that truly care about each childs' academic success. The music that the children learn is absolutely life changing. My children began their love for music at Whitman with a great choir teacher. They went on to instrumental music where they began learning different instruments and today I have a saxophone player, violinist, guitarist and an aspiring drummer. What a great experience my children have had of not only academic education but education of the arts.

I have had four children attend Whitman Elementary School and it has been a very positive experience. The kindergarten teachers provide an excellent start and the caring staff, teachers and principal carry on that foundation in a manner that shows they truly love their students and their job. The music program, run by Mr. Waczek, is excellent. I can't say enough about how wonderful this small school is.

My gifted but mildly autistic and hard of hearing child was sent to this school because it was suposed to meet his needs better. This teacher turned out to be an immature bully who ignored everything in his education plan and delibratly picked fights with him every day. He is an advanced 2nd grader but the homework that came home with him is Kindergarten level at best. We are fighting to get him back to his neighborhood school.
