San Marcos Middle School is quickly becoming a standout in the community with its dedicated staff and strong academic programs. The teachers are passionate about student success, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. Additionally, the school's athletics program is thriving, offering students a chance to excel both in the classroom and on the field. My oldest daughter had a fantastic experience at San Marcos Middle School. She attended 6th though 8th grade and thrived both academically and in sports.

My daughter attended SMMS during the pandemic and parts of 6th and all of 8th grade. I was shocked at the 8th grade graduation seeing the majority of kids walking receiving honors and high GPAs considering how difficult the pandemic was learning from home. We received free computers and meals for home learning and free lunches all summer. Its a big school so traffic is an issue but for the most part were all happy with our time there and look forward to my son attending next year! They have a lovely new principal and the school seems to be going in the right direction as far as I know. Middle school is tough and we appreciate educators!

New to this school and have only been in the area for a year, very happy with SMMS. Talked to several moms that had students go through this school and all great reviews & experiences. Teachers are great & my student is doing well and had a positive transition to middle school.

At least some of the teachers keep parents informed.

One 8th grade teacher humiliated a student's work in front of class and said her granddaughter did better work. Another teacher punished student who can't chew gum (braces) who had it on her chair by making them clean chair and 5 other chairs. Wrong misguided 8th grade teacher.

Plenty of excellent reasons like ones above and a teacher who staged a student down stairs for using his phone to text between periods.

Horrible experience for not only my grandchild. But others who were affairs of 8th grade math teacher. Also principal is not able to handle problems with his teachers. To relaxed and care free.

Teachers were always very good at communicating with me as a parent, very involved in helping students early when they struggled and always available for additional help/tutoring. Admin was very involved in all aspects of student programs, both academic and enrichment, they communicate and partner well with parents. I felt my children were in a safe caring environment and they had an exceptional academic experience at SMMS. They have more extra curricular activities than I have seen at other middle schools in the district; an outstanding band program, an award winning art program. Maker Space partnered with the local University, an underwater robotics program sponsored by Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Office of Naval Research. Live broadcasts and research projects in science classes with scientists and engineers from General Atomics, NOAA, Princeton, UCLA, UCI, UCSD and several international institutions. Model UN program and Jr ROTC Airforce. The teachers and admin are amazing and go above and beyond for students.

Not only is the PI school, with unsatisfactory academic scores, but, many of the teachers and administration are very uncaring and unprofessional. The new principal they brought to the school seems great, but she surely has her work cut out for her in order to change the climate that is embedded in this school. There is not very much parental involvement and it seems like the teachers and admin go unchecked more than in other schools. It is really sad when a gang is more supportive and loving than an educator. And, bullying and gangs are a problem at this school. But, it will not turn around and become a better school unless the teachers decide to empower the kids instead of disrespecting them.
