This school rocks!!! I was so impressed. As a parent who also volunteered in the classroom I saw it first hand. I remember the first day of tk orientation the principal gave a talk and stated some specific educational goals for the whole tk class. I dont remember all of them but one of them was that the students would be able to recite all 50 states. I though, no way. Sure enough at the end of the year my daughter knew them all and could say them all in order. Six years later we still remember good readers go back a page and can recognize when its a pattern.
Even though we had to move I continue to donate to the school through my Amazon purchases. Always a place in our hearts and minds Solana Highlands.

The teachers are incredible, class sizes are small, the school promotes good character as well as academics. We have had a wonderful experience there.

The teachers are very good at this school, however, the principal hasn't really brought in any new innovations or made much of an impact after the last principal. It has been over 2 years since Mr. Jones has left and if it weren't for the teaching staff and the great PTA involvement already in place, the school would have probably gone stagnant. He is nice and caring, but lacks the assertiveness and drive to make the school a standout.

I disagree with the last response. The latest SBAC test results are in and Solana Highlands has the highest in the Solana Beach School District which makes it some of the highest in the state. Clearly Mr. Frumovitz is a strong leader and his focus on academic excellence is benefitting the families, teachers, and students of this great school.

Teachers are great, but the current principal (Matthew Frumovitz) is not a strong leader. He is a nice enough guy who seems to want to make everyone happy. However, he doesn't promote or encourage academic excellence. The school does focus on character development, which is a plus.

The school has what is called the 'pillars of character.' Every month, a student in each class is recognized for one of these pillars such as 'trustworthiness,' 'honesty' and others. It is a great way for the students to aspire to high moral standards at a young age.

Teachers, principal, parents, PTA - amazing involvement of all! Attention to child's needs and particularities. Great events throughout the year that involve everybody. A great school!
