This school is an absolute joke. The superintendent allows his administration to be completely unethical while he has a 100% hands off approach. Arias is your typical "mean girl," who gossips about staff, plays favorites, gossips about parents, doesn't care about students with special needs, and she is spineless when it comes to teacher feedback. She will fire anyone if her friends don't like them. Even if they have stellar performance reviews. The fact that they hired Dhillon to be elementary admin is scary. She's another mean girl that if you get on her bad side, forget it. Class sizes are too big, the grounds are lifeless and sad. I would never want my children here.

I attended this school for two years before transferring due to lack of a stimulating learning environment and an engaged administration. When I attended there, they had a huge issue with mold being in the carpets and ceilings. You can smell it in the danker classrooms and as a student with asthma it was suffocating. Our bathroom breaks had to be timed on account of the mass amounts of vandalization that would take place, and the doors of said bathrooms were left open at all times. The campus is extremely dirty and very worn down. There was an issue when a SCIENCE teacher (I will not name names) decided it was appropriate to teach students about the "theory" or Creationism in class. (I have no issue with religion! however, the problem was that it was a clear violation of church and state). No disciplinary action was taken. There were numerous reports of sexual harassment, and even sexual assault among the student body that many students felt were not taken seriously by the administration. While I was there, the education that I received was disappointing, it was really easy and the expectations were very low. We were not being prepared for the real world, the environment was not nurturing, and I was often left feeling very uncertain about my future.

There were some good things about the school too! it has a decent Stage Productions Program, and some teachers who genuinely cared about students.

We could not be happier at Guajome. I’ve had two students go through high school and I can’t speak more highly of the small tight knit diverse experiences and opportunities they have had. They also have had the chance to make the best friends with amazing peers, that are motivated, connected to their family and community and their own goals.

As a student attending Guajome since 7th grade, I don't recommend going to Guajome. Alot of relentless bulling, i tried to tell the teachers and administration to handle it. But it doesn't really seem that they care.
Even being bullied in class by another student WHILE THE TEACHER WAS WATCHING! The teachers only told me to "Stop fighting with that person" please don't send your kids here.

Guajome Park Academy is a terrible school. Most teachers are discriminatory towards students regarding race, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and disabilities. Bullying from one student to another is not even acknowledged. Administration did nothing to help the students, and didn't discipline terrible teachers! More often than not, students that attend here that are perceived as different or non-conforming are heavily bullied. There were many instances of teachers and administration breaking state law in allowing discrimination whilst I attended. The curriculum itself is terrible. Many aspects of knowledge are either censored or ignored altogether. Barely any teachers accept late work. This school was not made to accommodate anyone. If you care about your child, you will not enroll them here.

As an educator at this school site, I can recommend this school for students but not for teachers. The administration is wildly out of touch with the needs of students, stakeholders, and teacher at this school. They have created a hostile working environment that promotes the harassment of their teachers. There is no support here for beginning teachers or even long-term teachers. It is common place for many teachers to be emotional after a meeting with an admin due to uncommunicated expectations, unhelpful--even harmful advice, and bullying behavior. I have seen many of my fellow teachers go through this and due to all these reasons, they have high turn-over. I would not recommend being a teacher here. So far, the quality for students has been okay. However, as this behavior continues, I fear the instructional quality will decrease as well.

I would warn against teaching at this school. The high turnover rate of teachers and administrators, some of whom choose to leave in the middle of the year should serve as a warning. As of this typing there are pages of job openings here- an administrator resigned Friday and isnt coming back to campus, and that was the second one this year. Judd Thompson is an unsupportive and unapproachable administrator. He demands teachers use polices that inflate grades so the school’s fail rate looks good. Good teachers are let go with no reason.

Be aware- if you are thinking of working here the admin is totally not supportive of teachers! There is zero discipline plan in place, kids are allowed to literally run out of their classrooms and no one can stop them, there is no academic freedom at ALL- you have to do what the department tells you to do, without question, and students are supposed to pass your class without doing the work so that fail rates and numbers are not damaged. Recently an amazing colleague was not renewed (she had been teaching here for three years) and she was given no warning and no reason. Her department chair tried to find out why and tried to keep her but admin would not listen. We are all stunned- she was a great educator who was loved by our kids. Honestly this makes me worried for my job here, if they didn't renew her, no one is safe. I just felt the need to warn other teachers- Kevin and Judd have expectations that aren't about being a good teacher but are more about being quiet, getting good test results, and keeping parents happy.

It's been a few years since my daughter Kaitlyn Quigley spent her freshman year at GPA. She now teaches school at the City of San Diego Charter school at the new City library. Though there for a short time, Kate thrived at GPA, enjoying it's discovery-teaching style and individual attention each child receives in order to excel. Kate now has a Master's Degree, a good job and is debt free due in part to attaining scholastic achievement awards that paid her way. As a duel citizen, Kate also distinguished herself awarded MVP for her pitching in softball while at graduate school at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She has many sides to her talents. I think Guajome Park Academy helped launch those positive experiences that helped build her self confidence at that very sensitive early age. It's the hope of all parents that wish their child takes flight and catches an enthusiasm for learning.

when i went to that school i felt as if the majority of the students enrolled into the school are of Hispanic culture and the teachers focused on teaching them english and not on the academic progression of the other racial types.

My child recently enrolled in this school (5-months ago). In a short period , I've had a few unnecessary complications and aggravation. First the positive, my daughter's teacher is very good. Easy to speak with and does more than just talk about collaborative education efforts (refreshing). Speaking with other parents, I'm told I was lucky, it's truly a gamble and very much dependent on the skills the teacher already brings to the table, not a product of the school. It took a few month to generate enough individual interaction with the administration to form an opinion. I think the aforementioned assessment has merit. The manner in which they deal with parents (in general) is liking the DMV-- a process not a person. Parents are largely marginalized and one should not expect much more than the token insincere apology for it. (sometimes the more direct "I'm sorry you feel that way" sideways gaff). The more aggravating is their tendency to speak to parents as one would imagine they speak to a 10-year. As such is their normal audience, I can imagine it may be difficult to turn that switch "off", but they should. Even worse, I don’t’ think they hear themselves half the time. The superintendent, himself, is an equal offender in this regard, which means such behavior is a taught and "approved" approach towards parents. In summery, meet and talk to the teachers -- they are the true measure of experience you will have. Don't expect any collaborative support from the school staff in general. Brace that you may well be marginalized and gaffed If you have issues or concerns (more so if you suggest fault on their part or they fail to see your point). The bright side, if your teacher is great.. your interaction with them should be at a minimum and thus easier to tolerate (this is how I manage). Ohh, I forgot to mention, The traffic dropping off and picking up is a death trap - one road in and one road out with hundreds of cars rushing at the same bell times. You get the picture. The admin staff makes a minimal effort by directing traffic, but the circumstance leaves you wondering why the fire department hasn't shut it down (Can you imagine an emergency vehicle trying to make it to the building? Parents would be driving into the ditch and gutters trying to clear a path). Arrive to drop off 20-min early and pick up exactly 15 min late.. it makes it less of a risk.

As stated in my review, our teacher is the reason why we still attend this school. We are bracing ourselves for the possibility we may not be so lucky in future grades and (given the dysfunctional nature of response of the staff) we may have little recourse than to shop around for a move.

Our daughter's teacher is well a-tuned to this subject. The amount is just right while offering the option to do more for additional benefit of the student, but does not require. We find our daughter will do the extra, but it's nice to know she is able to do so and enjoy going "the extra mile" in the process.

I have not experienced anything thus far, to suggest that they teach contra to these attributes. They have promotional posters and flyers throughout the school encouraging these attributes. I would expect his carries to the teaching in the class room.

This is our second year at Guajome. My son just started 6th grade and really enjoys the middle school setting. My daughter started 5th grade coming from private school and loves her classmates and Mrs. MacVarish. Overall we are very satisfied. They do need a grass area for the kids to play on. Most areas are concrete.

This is our third year at Guajome and we are very happy here. My daughter has found good friends and most teachers are wonderful! They have no tolerance for bullying. The academics are wonderful here and they even have an IB-Program now. The school has been expanded to K-12, with elementary (K-5) wearing school uniform.

The previous review perfectly encapsulates the horrific student-to-student interactions that take place at Guajome Park Academy. Guajome is the stereotypical "clique" high school, on par with The Breakfast Club, only with less integration. Popular students at GPA understand the world on a purely impersonal and selfish level, taking only their feelings and actions into account without caring for the feelings of others. The outcasts do not deserved to be treated this way. I have been at Guajome Park Academy for five grades, 6-10 and am currently in my sophomore year. Between sixth and seventh grade I was severely bullied for my less-than-gregarious personality. After bursting out of my shell and attempting to make friends, I found myself still rejected for my above-average intelligence and loving, caring attitude I exhibited for everyone I met, regardless of their personality. I went ignored and I found myself friendless. No matter how hard I tried to get their attention, they constantly ignored me or ridicule me if I attempt to initiate a conversation. No one should have to go through something like that. Everyone is entitled to a chance at friendship: at Guajome, you won't get it.

This school is, honestly, one of the worst schools out there. The kids are so mean and they categorize you into different groups just by the way you dress or the way you look or what music you listen to. SOME of the teachers are good. BUT, a lot of the teachers assign way too much homework/projects at one time. I find myself, on a regular basis, doing homework at 1:00am or later. Then, I do not get enough sleep to stay awake during class the next day. I also get bullied a lot. Both verbally and physically. I find myself under great stress and depression by going to this school. Do NOT send your children to this school. It will only make life difficult for them.

My daughter is always a straight "A" student but for a new teacher to give her an "F" due to a one day late homework which she wasn't able to submit because she was pulled out early for a dental reason and was requested to be excused in unacceptable. Her test and other homeworks are perfectly fine. They even sent a letter for conference if the student is not doing well but then the teacher crossed out the option "does not need conference". For all I know if you gave a student an "F" would you at least call and talk to the parents about it? We emailed the teacher but never responded. They blame the system, well fix it. We were told that teachers are not going to remind students about their homework and are responsible in looking at the parent/student portal. Well guess what the parent/portal doesn't seem to be updated coz it shows my daughter is missing some homework even though she doesn't. She is new to the school and I'm not happy on what's going on.

This is the first year for my kids at Guajome and so far so good! We absolutely love how the class sizes are much smaller in ratio than a regular union school. I am simply amazed how organized the staff is, and I feel SO MUCH better dropping off our children to a school that doesn't have police cars in front everyday or security yelling at the kids. Its school not jail! The staff is always unbelievably welcoming to parents and students, that makes a world of a difference when the staff actually likes their job and environment this reflects onto the students. One of the major issues that we had with the previous school was the teachers either did not update the homework website or never returned emails or calls. I have emailed three teachers from Guajome this year in the morning and they all got back to me that same day within a few hours. Guajome is a K-12 school and does not provide bussing but I must say whoever created the traffic plan is a genius! It amazes me how fast I get in and get out of the school, with that many students going there.

I've been going to GPA and it is amazing! I'm in 6th grade and the charter experience is awesome. They have a large area of performing arts and they have approximately 1,500 students from grades 6-12 (the profile is a typo, it's 6-12, not 4-12). Instead of science or history/social studies, they have humanities and technology. There is math/algebra, English, and then either Spanish or German in the same period of Physical Education. The teachers are nice but they do demand you to follow the rules. Detention is not as common as other schools, but that's because they keep everyone in such a straight and orderly fashion. They take control and this school is just...beyond exceptional. The campus is very large, with two stories. My friend since first or second grade is a dancer and is very pleased with their performing arts section. My friend since last grade is very mathematically talented and is proud to be challenged. Luckily, or fortunately, whichever you prefer, they don't slow down for just one student, they keep everyone at a certain pace. They only have one elective choice for each grade, but it doesn't matter, because the teachers know how to teach you quickly and well.

I'm an alumnus to this school and I can honestly say I don't wish to have gone to any other school. This school is everything one looks for. All students know each other due to the small population relative to other schools. Those that say this school doesn't prepare you for anything in life, they are completely wrong. The resources are available to those that want to utilize them. Obviously if they decide they don't want to learn then they won't learn. They have IB and AP available; that really shapes up a student for college and are good to take. Everything is available and the teachers are great; most of them are, at least. This school definitely, not only meets, but exceeds the level at which neighboring schools are at. The staff truly care about the students and that is a heart-warming aspect. Of course, though, students need to take advantage of these opportunities.

Terrible teachers, terrible leaning environment. This WILL NOT prepare you/your child for college/ the real world. Academics are extremely lackluster and so are sports. Honestly just go somewhere else. The middle school portion is good but the high school portion is not. If you are a student and attend GPA be prepare to not have a real high school experience. Just stop by the campus and ask some of the students that have been going there for a while about the school. And if you want a good laugh ask seniors how good of a teacher Ms.Fallman is. Honestly half the teachers shouldn't be teaching. Half the time in class i find that we are doing absolutely nothing. If you missed a month of school you could probably get caught back up within a few days. There is THAT little going on in the classroom.

This school is in disarray. If you need day care, this is the place for you. If you want your children safe and educated, do not come to this school. The teachers allow chaos in the classrom and the superintendent wants it that way. I feel sorry for the teachers, although there are only one or two are can actually teach.They are proud that the expulsion and suspensions are "down" but that is only because the teachers do not enforce the rules. Do not come to this school.
