Mission Meadows Elementary School has unfortunately declined in quality since the change in leadership from Dr. Porter to the current principal, Mr. Peel. Under Dr. Porter, the school was a much better place for students to learn and grow.
Since Mr. Peel took over, the environment has become subpar. The school is plagued by rampant bullying, which goes largely unchecked by the administration. This creates an unsafe and uncomfortable atmosphere for many students.
The administrators at Mission Meadows seem to lack genuine care for the students. Their focus appears to be elsewhere, resulting in a neglect of important issues and a decline in the overall quality of education and student well-being.
I would not recommend Mission Meadows Elementary School to any parent who values a safe, nurturing, and effective learning environment for their child.

I really wanted to like this school but it just hasn't happened after almost a year. The teachers don't seem like they enjoy their jobs. The principal and vice principal lack follow through and don't respond to emails. The best thing about the school is probably the hard-working PTA. And I love the diversity.

The willingness of the school counselors involvement with the children individually is admirable. They also bring teaching tools and techniques in the classroom in tangible ways for students to learn about the importance of Character building and mutual kindness.

Great Leadership and helpful with any questions or concerns. Dr Porter is extremely responsive and handles situations with tact and grace.
Posted: August 9, 2019
I believe the leadership knows how to support learning differences but I have seen (with both of my children) that communication from teacher to parent could be done in a more proactive manner as opposed to waiting for the child to be struggling (cognitively or behaviorally) as teachers have foresight that could help the parents actively engage at home.

The school teaches children how to correct their behavior well after any bullying has been brought to their attention. Recess duties struggle to see everything and can sometimes make children feel like tattle tales when their may be a good reason for adult involvement (bullying is not reserved for only physical behavior). Overall, the school leadership does take charge and correct behavior as quickly and tactfully as possible.

This school has been amazing for our children and I am grateful we found it. I am always impressed with the events the PTA and staff puts together for the community and children in the school. We will be doing our best to be staying in the area to continue our time at Mission Meadows.

Reading is highly encouraged as the most important portion of homework. My children love the fun incentives given and goals to achieve as well.

My daughter has been here since K and has loved every teacher she has had. We did have a couple confrontations due to my sons 'active' behavior with no signs of a willing teacher (no fault of the school) to help with classroom strategies until 3rd grade (Thank You Mr. Robinson!) He is looking forward to 4th grade.

A 8 the curriculum was too hard for my kids in first grade they expect you to know how to read spell and do projects. The high rating goes for Dr.Porter Mrs .Mclealand and Mrs.Miller.

My overall experience has been excellent. They address needs and offer support if requested. The teachers and staff are available to discuss any concerns you may have. Dr. Porter is wonderful, empathetic principal who has a very open door policy. I would highly recommend.

Mission Meadows is a true community school. Dr. Porter leads his staff firmly and respectively and cares about the students deeply. You can see him most lunches walking the playground, and lunch area talking to students and interacting with them. He is a total professional too. He gets back to you promptly when you call or send an email.
Another reason this school is awesome is the beyond wonderful office staff. I can't say enough about these people!! Michele Brown is the office manager and so easy to talk to. She goes beyond the call of duty and even does a Book club with the 5th graders during her lunch time!! Lorena Rosas is the front office assistant and ALWAYS welcome everyone who comes in with a smile. She is friendly and helpful. And lastly, Penny Capra was added to the staff this last year and she not only fits in well with the existing staff, but is warm and friendly also. They always try to help parents and resolve any issues.
The PTA is also super awesome at Mission Meadows. They put on a Harvest Carnival that is beyond awesome that is not just fun, but builds community within the school. They seem to be ever present, putting on programs, and helping the school.
My only beef with the school is that they don't seem to have as many field trips as other schools. I'm not sure why that is. But maybe that can change in the future. Either way, it's not a deal breaker.

Our principal, Dr. Porter demonstrates honesty, integrity and fairness everyday. He is out with students at recess and lunch as well as in classrooms everyday. He consistently teaches problem solving, peer mediation and how to treat people with respect all using the same qualities he practices everyday with students and staff.

My daughter started kindergarten this year. She had previously been in preschool for almost 3 years where they were teaching her pretty advanced lessons like counting in the 1,000's and writing in cursive. I was worried she would be bored but that's not the case. She is thriving and loves school. I'm not sure how her teacher differentiates instruction so well, but she does. My daughter is already writing detailed stories! I can't wait to see how much more she will progress.

Our child came to Mission Meadows with only a few months left in the school year. Our child feels welcome and has learned more than she did at her former school in a short amount of time. She has worked on subjects other than math, which was all the old school cared about. I highly recommend Mission Meadows!

As parents of a 1st grader who began her studies as a kindergartener, we are very pleased by the leadership of Principle Mrs. Golden has exhibited. With staff she has established a no-nonsense, performance oriented learning environment. And with a wonderful caring environment at MME, our daughter enjoys school and is enthusiastic about learning. It is noteworthy to mention that it takes the involvement and attention of parents as well. Our daugher has excelled because of this combination. As importantly, Mrs. Golden and staff have responded effectively and without hesitation to instances were immediate, direct intervention was necessary. She and her staff have shown a willingness to exemplify an un-acceptance of bad and un-acceptable behavior. All in all MME is to us, a very impressive education center and we are fortunate to have this school available to us.

Wow! What a great school. I just stumbled across this website and thought I'd add a few thoughts. First of all, initially, my husband and I were skeptical of enrolling our daughter in a VUSD school. We were wrong! Ever since our first tour of the school, in early August, by the principal, we have not stopped smiling. We can really see how our daughter is being pushed academically to be the best she can be. She loves waking up every morning and getting to school. The staff is amazing, her teacher cares so much and the principal is the most visible, dynamic administrator I could ever imagine. This is a great school.

I am so appreciative of all of the parents who take the time to communicate their perspectives. This is how we become a better place to work and learn. Every single parent perspective is given careful consideration as we create our single plan for student achievment. Perception is everything! I strive to continue refining our already wonderful school with these thoughts and opinions at the forefront of our decision making so we can do what is best for every child even in tough economic times for education. Not one word of a parent or student goes unheard. I urge all parents to keep up the communication! Communication is so important and its a two way street. Most of you know you can email, call, or walk in anytime and your concerns will always be addressed swiftly at Mission Meadows! My greatest respect to the kids, parents, and staff at this wonderful school With great honor to serve as Principal! Mrs. Golden

This is such a great website, I'm so glad I found it! I love that parents can give their opinion about their school experience. My son has been at MME since K and it is a very good school. The principal is amazing! She is young and full of energy and likes to get things done. I have noticed a bit more yelling than I would like and have voiced my opinion about it, but thats the public school system for you. At MME safety is huge and there is a great system in place in case of an emergency. I was told some PTA members were asked to write positive reviews on this site, but as long as their truthful it's probably okay. I love the parents at MME they are very involved and ever present which makes for a fun experience for all.

Mission Meadows is an extremely positive and inclusive school. The teachers, principal and staff are all very caring and nurturing. The number one priority of this extremely dedicated and talented team is the success and well being of the students. Scholastic excellence is the utmost criteria, while remembering to have plenty of fun along the way. This is the beginning of your child's life journey and Mission Meadows, Mrs. Golden and all the teachers are highly resolved to the success of your child and your participation is encouraged and expected. I am very enthused and extremely delighted to be part of the team that makes this school and the students a great success!! Keep up the great work and the ongoing progress to academic excellence.

Mission Meadows has an amazingly supportive community of students, staff, and teachers. As a SDC teacher I am so proud to be a part of the special education program here that embraces all students differences. Mission Meadows works hard on ability awareness and it shows in the student's attitudes and behaviors towards one another. We believe that every student deserves to feel a sense of belonging and support!

I am an employee at Mission Meadows. I have had the great opportunity to join this magnificiant team last month. I work as a support secretary in the school office. I see the dedication staff give to the students, parents and the community. I am proud to say I work at Mission Meadows with staff that put "action" behind the meaning of putting students first.

My daughter and I love this school. The teachers are attentive and caring. Parent involvement is amazing, and the education is above and beyond. By far, the BEST school in Vista.

Mission Meadows has many unique opportunities for students. Mission Meadows values the whole child. We have more than 200 students who participate after school in art, music, Ukulele class, kids college enrichment, tutoring clubs, etc. Students are high achieving but also know the value of being leaders in sports and extra curricular activities.

I have 3 kids that have or are currently attending this school and we have been very happy here. My kids love it. We transfered here from a failing school, and let me say it was the best move we ever made. The kids attitudes changed about school. The campus is wonderful, bright and very personable. The PTA hosts lots of activites for the kids, which my older children still come back for year after year and each grade level plans field trips during the year. Absolutely makes the kids look forward to school and keeps things exciting for them. Great teachers, Great staff = GREAT SCHOOL!
