I am extremely disappointed with my child’s experience with this teacher Megan Vidaurri Throughout the school year, we felt the classroom environment was not supportive or encouraging. Instead of helping my child succeed, the interactions we experienced felt condescending, dismissive, and discouraging.

A teacher’s role is to guide students, provide support, and create a classroom where every student feels respected and valued. Unfortunately, our experience left my child feeling unsupported and unheard.

I also have serious concerns about whether all students were being treated fairly and equally. Some of the interactions and experiences raised concerns for our family about bias and possible discriminatory treatment.

Parents trust teachers with their children’s education and well-being. When that trust is affected, it is important to speak up and advocate for students. I hope this feedback encourages reflection, accountability, and a commitment to ensuring every student is treated with respect and given a fair opportunity to succeed.
Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage parents to carefully consider their options and ask questions before placing their child in this teacher’s classroom. A good education requires a teacher who is supportive, respectful, and invested in helping students succeed. Unfortunately, that was not the experience my child had.

I am a junior this year and I love going to Rancho. I like most of the teachers. I play football. We're not good but it's still fun. There are some weirdos here but I am sure every school has a few weirdos.

I feel the need to write this review because of the bad reputation this school has. Keep in mind as you read my review, I work in education and have worked for a few of the surrounding high schools in north county for the last 15 years, so I have some real knowledge of what goes in all these high schools. Many of the complaints I hear about RBV are the same things going on every HS in North County SD. You think marijuana use in the bathrooms is bad at RBV, go spend a day in Carlsbad HS's bathrooms and parking lot. I can assure you the drug use is far worse than RBV, but I guess Cbad HS has a different demographic so drug use is more acceptable and less talked about?

My daughter is a sophomore at Rancho and so far she has had a great experience. She has been happy with most of her teachers, classes, and extra curricular activities she participates in. She has met many wonderful friends from wonderful families. RBV also has great academic programs, including academic clubs and an excellent IB and AP program, even offering AP classes as early as freshman year. These programs have already given my daughter many possibilities for beyond HS. As a sophomore, she has received an invite to West Point Academy as well as recruitment letters from other prestigious Universities. Is this school perfect? No, but I can assure you no school is, and it seems the students that are unhappy at RBV, or any other high school for that matter, don't know how to take advantage of the opportunities available and should schedule a visit with the counselor to learn how.

I have to say that I was almost swayed by all the chatter about this school and considered sending my daughter to different HS before her freshman year, however I am glad we didn't and are happy with our decision to sending her to RBV.

I'm going to be a senior next grade year, my overall 3 years of attending this school have been horrible. One thing about this school is I cant use the bathroom without having 10 - 20 "students" smoking/vaping then staring at you like you interrupted their "smoke sesh". And on the off chance of that not occuring where there Isn't 20 kids in there is you get hit with a strong aroma of weed everytime you walk in. The drug and alcohol problem that people have here is absolutely heartbreaking. The staff don't care WHAT so ever. VUSD really needs to investigate the Staff and FIX THIS SCHOOL. If you're considering a school for your child, Take it from somebody who has gone here, JUST DONT.

My daughter is a freshman this year and so far she's really enjoyed her time at RBV. I feel this school is making a lot of positive changes - It seems campus security has recently made a bigger effort in getting the school cleaned up, the sports program and sports teams are on the rise, and there are a lot of social activities for students to be a part of. As far as the campus, the gym is being remodeled this year, the football stadium will be updated next year, and lot of other big improvements to the campus happening in the near future. This school is moving in the right direction and I am excited to see what it will be when my daughter is a senior.

VUSD does not value its special education staff.

-poor benefits compared to other districts.

-not enough sped aides in the classrooms to support students

- district is hiring interns to teach classes but they don’t provide them with the essential training/mentorship they require.

- elementary support staff have to hold IEP meetings after their contract hours with no extra pay (this is in the union contract). So they work countless overtime for FREE

My son attended this school. He had fantastic supportive teachers and a great focus on growth, careers and development. He has a very supportive experience on the swimming and water polo teams. He went on to college and has had smooth transition which I contribute to his teachers and experience at Rancho.

RBV is fine but avoid the district offices are only concerned with the lowest 10% and ignore the parents wishes for the remaining 90%...see horrible injustice of only Credit/No Credit grade policy 2020. VUSD is a horrible district and should be avoided.

Sometimes too much busy work, like at any school

They give the students the tools to succeed. We have a senior headed to Yale next year for example.

I would give it an 8 out of 10. No school is perfect but academics and social activities and sports are well-organised. New young principal will make some good changes too!!

In my opinion RBV provides a well-rounded educational opportunity for all students. The students seem happy and the vast majority are there to learn. There are some students who would prefer to not follow the rules/policies, but anywhere you have two thousand teenagers that is the case. The staff works hard and expects the same of the students. The school does need some updating, but focusing on the students they seem happy, well-rounded and are looking towards college and the future.

This school is completely over crowded with students and not enough teachers and counselors “under staff and don’t care”. Some students get high on drugs or drunk before or during school hours “some staff don’t care”. I had two kids attend this school, and I worked closely in the school, the teachers really don’t care. They need a lot of Security by the baseball field.
The school structure overall is very old, not safe. It needs to be rebuild.
