I love this school. The new principal has been great. She is quiet but behind scenes she gets the job done. All proceeds go directly towards the school and you can see where it goes. I have no complaints of this school. The last principal was very open and social, however i dont think she handled a lot of situations correctly. Which could be why there were so many turnovers the past years.

There is homework, and your children will be up to date if not, further than expected for their grade levels.

Parent involvement is required. Its a great way to meet the other families, its been my sons third year at this school and weve made some great friends.

Overall its a great school, well behaved educated kids. Theyre putting money into a new stem lab, something is always being improved.

I chose Nazareth bc a number of different clients of mine had recommended it. Some were teachers, doctors, lawyers, librarians, they all recommended it. And some had kids who went or had graduated from Nazareth and from what I have observed, they grew to become smart hard working well rounded people. Whatever theyre doing at this school seems to be working.

Great school and grounds with a rich history and legacy with the Sisters of Nazareth. All great schools that have been around for decades have some ups and downs with administrations from time to time. Unfortunately, the school is currently in that downward trajectory. The current administration that was brought in this year has failed at the basic core values. The new principal is nice and that is where it stops. Delegating. deferring responsibilities to others, without taking ownership of the school, and lacking attention to detail pretty much describes the management style. The school likes to preach community but it currently it doesn't feel like it, especially when the principal doesn't even give much effort to try and learn the student's names and this is a small school. Hopefully the Sisters of Nazareth will restore the school back to its glory days sooner than later. Either hold the principal accountable to the high expectations this institution expects and wants or start recruiting for a replacement. If you are considering this school, you should watch and wait until things get better.

I think the happiest moment of my adolescent life was graduating out of this place. Atmosphere is terrible, campus is lame, and the staff is constantly pressuring 8th graders to go to Catholic high schools, often going as far as to giving special treatment to those who do. 0/10, would not recommend.

Sadly, this school has faced a steady decline over the past few years which I feel can be attributed to the administration change over Covid. Our son has faced numerous interruptions in his classroom with last year having the teacher out for multiple weeks with zero updates to the parents and then this year his teacher is out for two weeks (again with no communication) and then is terminated abruptly the eve before parent teacher conferences. This is coupled with another teacher being abruptly terminated the first week of school along with a beloved teacher being quickly exited last spring. 3 teacher turnovers in 9 months for a 9 grade school is completely unacceptable in my opinion. I can only hope that with the unfortunate impending closure of other San Diego catholic schools, Nazareth might pick up new hires that help to restore the school to the great place it once was.

We love the sense of community at this school. There is a high level engagement from faculty and families. The administration knows each child personally and is truly commited and enthusiastic about educating.

Class sizes exceed 31 in both of childrens grades. It has been this way for the past 3+ years. high turnover rate among staff and faculty. There seems to be a lot of focus on raising money without a clear explanation on where it goes. This is more of a priority over education.

We love the Nazareth School. Our oldest began in preschool and is now in the 3rd grade. She has excelled in this environment. Her brother started in the 3 year old Sunflowers class and is now in the 1st grade. I love the inclusive nature of the school. There is no tolerance for bullying. Class sizes are small (20-30 kid) with teacher aids.

I couldnt be happier with my childs experience at Nazareth. We have been apart of the community for 9 years now. The dedicated and nurturing staff create a warm and welcoming environment where each student is valued and supported. The curriculum is both challenging and engaging, fostering a love for learning that I see reflected in my childs enthusiasm every day. The school emphasizes not only academic excellence but also character development, instilling important values such as respect, kindness, and responsibility. The variety of extracurricular activities and programs offered provide ample opportunities for students to explore their interests and talents. Communication with parents is outstanding, and I always feel informed and involved in my childs education. I highly recommend Nazareth to any parent seeking a top-notch education for their child.

My son has been going to this school for two years now. I get updated w emails regarding whats going on w the school campus weekly. They are constantly improving the security and structure on campus. I love how their pick up system works and its definitely one of the safest schools ive toured. Knowing some fellow ppl who have worked in the security field, theyve all said this school is one of the safest. Its away from the main street and tucked away.
I love how they have the little kids write cards and sing songs to the elders in the senior living across the street. And i love how the older kids mentor the little ones. It is a strict school, with traditional teachings, which i like. I never heard of this school until i asked about 5 different clients all recommend it. So far i have no complaints.

I had my older daughter go through this school with the previous principal and it was a different experience. My younger daughter has had unqualified teachers for the past 4 years. The principal is unqualified to be here, the sisters of Nazareth are turning a blind eye to the whole situation. They will disenroll your child without notice, not for breaking rules or having bad grades, because they don't like being questioned by parents or having anyone question the poor quality of education. They dismiss teachers under false pretenses in the middle of the year. This is not a safe or healthy environment for your child, there are a lot of good catholic school options and as a parent I would suggest you find another school.

While a teacher was out my child had a substitute teacher who was clearly incapable of showing compassion and having the passion needed for teaching. Patience is important when working with little ones and she clearly did not possess it. The response when addressing the administration about why parents are not notified when my child's teacher and care taker had been absent without my knowledge and replaced with someone I have never heard of was "we can't possibly tell every parent everything that happens". Absolutely disgusting how this school handles feedback and out children. We will be looking for other educational opportunities.

My childs favorite teacher was seemingly fired or forced to leave without any explanation or transparency from administration whatsoever. This teacher was the only teacher that made my child excited about learning and now hes gone. If the reason for his firing was as ridiculous as we think it is, then it makes sense why my child has been so devastated. As a family, we are just so sad and confused.

Weve been attending here for five years now and have watched it steadily decline. My daughters teacher was fired and escorted off campus last week. The staff turnover rate seems to be incredibly high as the principal seems unable to hire quality (and qualified) teachers. Weve decided not to return in the fall.

We have been a member at this school for several years. However over the past 3 years the school has continuously gone downhill. The leadership is unqualified and unfit for their position. There is high turnover rate among teachers. Class sizes have ballooned to over 32+ students. Art is terrible there is no curriculum or engagement. Technology courses have been cut. Resource aide is not existent. All of this used to be thriving and what excited us about the school. The tuition continues to increase and all we get is meet the CA minimum standards from the leadership. Terrible!!!!! My children constantly complain that all teachers do is worry about how many points to have them take off their behavior log each day and there is constant negativity in each of their classes. What a shame that the leadership can take down what used to be a thriving caring and wonderful educational institution. It is heartbreaking.

My daughter has attended Nazareth School for 2 years. The dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to make sure the students are academically challenged and supported throughout the school day and during extracurricular activities. I am so glad we chose Nazareth over other Catholic schools in the Diocese. My daughter is more responsible and more respectful as a result of the hard work and structure provided by her teachers. I know my daughter is receiving an excellent education that will allow her to be successful throughout her life.

Nazareth School has been such a blessing to our family. Great teachers/staff, welcoming parents/students, and superb "core values" taught to the children & practiced by all. We have found our forever home here at Nazareth.

We have been here for the last part of this year. We have one child in each level (preschool, elementary and middle school). I couldn't ask for anything more than we have found in Nazareth. I can tell you that every adult at the school is invested in their job, the school and most importantly the children! Teachers and staff are always there early or staying late. All three of my children LOVE the school! We interviewed and visited several private schools in the area and this is where we opted to stay. This school is such a hidden little gem here in San Diego!
They started online grades for the middle school which is FANTASTIC! I can hold my oldest accountable, which is perfect considering that is typically and area that they struggle in. They also started Spanish and I believe this goes school-wide next year. Our child in preschool, I went to visit the other day and found them learning sight words that in other states, my older children didn't learn until Kindergarten.
When we toured the school the principal knew most students by name, the librarian is AWESOME with all the kids, the gym teacher is great with the kids at all levels and ages!
My children have also grown leaps and bounds spiritually, emotionally and mentally since we have joined the Nazareth family. If you are looking for a great, well-rounded experience for your children along with an opportunity to join a great community, allow your child to build on their Catholic faith and find a HOME for Preschool through middle school, this is the place!

I am very disappointed with the lack of knowledge of researched based teaching practices by the principal. I see no support for teachers--ZERO! Lack of professional development coupled with the "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" attitude from the inept principal equals numerous families and teachers leaving the school these past two years. Enrollment is down, moral is down, and we will not be returning next year.

I have been a parent at this school for 9 years and have been very active in school activities. I have seen expected teacher and leadership turnover. Unfortunately, during the last 3 years this school has taken a nose dive. The campus and community are well above average and the stewardship of the Nazareth Order is great. These seem to be the only things holding it together. There are a core of parents that are very involved but are stymied at every turn in their efforts to improve the quality of the school community. Any dissenting voice, either staff or parent, is met with hostility from the adminitrator. Last year when 3 teachers left (some under 1 year tenure) it was deemed an anomaly. This year 4 teachers left (some very senior ones) and over 25 families have departed for other local schools. The only constant over these past 3 years has been teh questionable leadership by current school administrator. If you have 20% turnover of your workforce and a 20% drop in enrollment in less than 2 years there is only one place to look. There is no denying that this school has tremendous potential but if the stewards of the school do no take action soon this school will fail.

I have been a parent at Nazareth School for 12 years. I am also a graduate of the school. Nazareth has educated 7 members of my family and currently has 7 members attending in various grade levels. I have witnessed many changes to the school over the years but two things hold true. When a child is finished at Nazareth they will be prepared for high school and they will have a greater closeness to the Lord. The Sisters of Nazareth are a constant presence at the school with their undying support, love, and prayers for the children. The faculty is caring and competent with Dr. Mauricio at the wheel. The child receives a well-rounded education with the opportunity for fine arts, sports, and computer training in addition to the daily courses. Mass is attended weekly and the priests at the Mission are very supportive of the school. Unfortunately, today, many Catholic schools are experiencing hardship while Nazareth is flourishing with beautiful upgrades to the school newly completed. I feel that is a testament to the wonderful atmosphere including the parent community . In my opinion well worth the sacrifice!!

I have been a parent at Nazareth for 7 years now. My wife and I view this school as the best money we spend. We are making the investment in our children's learning and development not only as students but as citizens. We feel we are getting our money worth by a factor of 10X. To give Nazareth a scorecard: Atmosphere conducive to learning -- A+ (perhaps the best school atmosphere anywhere in San Diego) Vision and Leadership -- A+ (Dr. Mauricio has a vision for the school and the faculty and staff are aligned to that vision and executing well to see that happen). School Culture -- A+ (The school has a values driven culture that is active in every part of the school's daily life. The kids routinely look to school values as measures of right and wrong. Assemblies and the environment strongly reinforce a greater purpose. . . its amazing) Parents within the community -- B+ (For the most part very high quality people very invested in their kids education . . .the occasional "pot stirrer" doesn't get a lot of oxygen, gets frustrated and leaves. Love this school and am thrilled that my kids are a part of this community!

Several years ago we transferred our 3rd grader to Nazareth from a prestigious independent school. Our initial reaction was: BEAUTIFUL, peaceful, SAFE campus, strong curriculum that actually includes art, Spanish and P.E., highly competent teachers and excellent leadership. Our Principal, Dr. Mauricio, is extremely receptive/responsive to parental input. She obviously cares deeply about the students and is, at the same time, able to run a "tight ship". Nazareth is more than a school, it's a community. From our perspective, the following are some of Nazareth's strengths: middle school improvements with emphasis on literature/writing, exceptional, high school prep science curriculum, tech program with new computer lab, art, foreign language, choir and P.E., on-site extracurricular activities including student council and a variety of sports, wonderful after-school options including low cost/ well-run day care and study hall (led by our terrific librarian who knows every child, his/her reading level and interests), morning assemblies to promote communication/sense of community, and an effective/talented PTG board. We have never regretted our decision to transfer to Nazareth.

This school is a wonderful place for children to learn. The teachers and staff are loving and kind and truly have the children's best interest at heart. The entire school community is focused on the academic as well as religious education of the students. I am a graduate of this school and am so thankful that my children are able to attend here. Campus is pretty, adjacent to the Mission; class sizes are small & students attend weekly Mass. Otherwise this school is a disappointment. A lot of wasted instruction time due to school-wide morning assemblies 3x/week. A fair amount of unprofessionalism among the staff: teachers talking to parents about other families and about other teachers. Teachers lose their cool a lot of yelling at the students. Teachers have been known to yell at parents and to break down in tears in front of parents. The leadership is very weak, both in terms of the current principal and the Sisters of Nazareth who have no true presence at the school. The parents run the school for better or for worse. There are many wonderful families and not-so-wonderful ones. Lots of cliques and drama. Parents band together against newer teachers they dislike, gossiping, undermining, and basically backstabbing the teachers. High turnover among new teachers, but ones that should retire stay on. School is not forward-thinking when it comes to instructional methods and materials. After 3 years, we enrolled at a Catholic school across town.
