I was a student at this school, and it is very poor in understanding. In the 4th grade, my friend was being bullied and had major depression, and when she told teachers and staff. All they said was to pray and hope God will fix her. They all constantly referred to her as sick or in need of Jesus instead of helping her or telling her parents. She went on to become more violent and depressed. In 5th grade, she left the school. Another red flag about this school is that they are culturally insensitive. I was one of three Asian girls in my grade and teachers were constantly mixing myself and my friend up. They would call us by the wrong names and tell the class how we were "exotic". My former 6-grade teacher went as far as to teach us his political beliefs. My only memory of this school was constantly crying in the bathrooms because of how I was wrong or being publically shamed in class by my 7th-grade teacher. I would NEVER recommend this school.

High standards, structure, and rigorous academics. We are so happy with this school. Our whole child is nurtured here academically, spiritually, physically, and socially. Attendees are lucky to be a part of CLS. I know that if my daughter had a problem, she could go to any CLS staff member and they would guide and support her in a way that is aligned with our family values.

I LOVE this school! Yes, I'm completely biased. I have been given the great privilege of leading CLS since 2000. Our staff has significantly changed over the last few years and our mission has stayed the same - develop dynamic disciples for Christ. At CLS, we believe this is done best with intentional discipleship (your kids learn to know and love God's Word), consistent expectations (we work hard), and in a positive school community (at CLS kids are known and loved). CLS has navigated COVID and all the changing protocols while keeping school in session and kids educated well as our primary goals. CLS isn't a perfect place, but it is a really great place full of great people. A visit to our campus, a walk down our halls, or a conversation with our people will quickly convince you. I LOVE this school! I LOVE this community! I LOVE these people! I LOVE CLS!

Our children go to this school, and I cannot ask for a better more supportive environment for my children. The environment is one of grace and compassion, but coupled with high expectations to help the students learn how to take personal responsibility, organize their time wisely, develop outstanding study habbits, and achieve a high standard in academics all while teaching and showing them all about the Lord. The commitment to excellence and passion for their students is evident in all that the staff does at CLS!

I was a middle school student here quite a few years ago, and my two year experience at this school has definitely still stuck with me. Very poor environment overall...the school tries to pass off their way of teaching as "tough love", but in reality, there is very little compassion or grace shown towards their students. There's a lot of unnecessary pressure put onto the kids for things that, in the long run, don't really matter. I will admit that I liked most of my teachers and their styles of curriculum, and believe that they cared about me as an individual. However, the student body was truly the centerpiece of the school that made it awful, and my main reasoning for giving it such a low review. The school is made up majorly of white students from wealthy backgrounds, and they definitely let you know it. If you're different and don't fit at least one of those two quotas, chances are you won't do very well fitting in. Not once did I ever feel welcomed or included in this place; even faculty made some comments that they thought were cute or funny, but in reality were more frustrating and annoying than anything. While I cannot speak for them, I know some family members also had a negative experience here based on similar instances.
The school does have a lot of very nice faculty and staff, but the culture of the campus was one that created a really negative viewpoint of this place in my mind. If you're looking for a warm and welcoming school for your child, keep looking.

Great experience for our daughter in pre-school. The teachers are incredibly caring and fair. The have a wonderful positive reinforcement and encourage kindness and working together. I cannot imagine a better environment for learning and the teachers have done an incredible job at integrating learning with fun. Our daughter has learned so much.

My students middle school years were some of the worse because of bullying and her 7th grade teacher Was one of the bullies. Not a great school for kids that transfer and then who didnÂ’t start in their primary years.

Mr. Rex 8th grade teacher and Mr. Wegin science teacher were amazing. Rest of the teachers we Encountered work encountered work terrible.

Because there were two outstanding teachers my daughter had I will rate it a 3. One teacher can really ruin a school.

This is not an issue at this school. It has an excellent, safe, loving environment.
Posted: July 5, 2019
The homework load more than adequately prepares students for high school and college. It is not easy, but well worth it.
Posted: July 5, 2019
The teachers truly care about the students and teach using a myriad of strategies. There are lots of interactive, cooperative lessons using the latest technology, coupled along with lecture and note-taking lesson as well.

The principal is loving, kind, a fair disciplinarian, very positive and supportive.

Students who need extra support have the opportunity to work with the resource teacher throughout the school day.

All of my children have loved their experience at this school. They made excellent friends who they are still friends with today. They are excelling in high school and college and have been prepared to be very successful in life. It is an absolutely AMAZING school!

While I was attending this school there were very few instances where I heard about bullying. The teachers and principal were very swift to discipline the student behind the bullying and were there comfort the student being bullied. At Christ Lutheran, they take bullying very seriously, I never felt as if I was not safe there. It was like my home.

Our principal is incredible! She is the right combination between a loving mentor and a caring disciplinarian.
Posted: June 28, 2019
Personally, my classmates and I all greatly benefitted from the resource program. It helps students who are behind in academic subjects by giving them additional support to be academically successful. The resource teacher tends to work with students on an individual basis depending on their needs, thus providing a more focused learning environment.

My experience at this school was wonderful. I made wonderful friends and was raised in a loving Christian school. I was challenged academically which just helped me become a better student in the long run. I would highly recommend this school for a great Christian education along with, strong academics that better prepare you for life in the real world.

This school's homework policy prepared me greatly for the challenges of high school. The incomplete policy, though strict, was very effective in preparing me for my future as an honors high school student.
Posted: June 28, 2019
Each teacher at this school thoroughly prepared me for the next stage in my life. At this school teachers take the extra time to help students who are struggling, whether that be with emotional struggles or academic ones.
Posted: June 28, 2019
Because of the Christian foundation of the school, students are taught from K-8 to be respectful citizens in this society. Things like service hours encourage students to give back to their communities.

We are tremendously thankful for giving both of our children the opportunity to attend this school. We could not be happier and it is the best decision we have made for their academic success so far. They are thriving in their education and they are truly happy. I feel secure at every single drop off in the morning that my child will be loved, cared about, safe and monitored. The Principal knows everyone's name and the entire administration goes above and beyond our expectations. Best money we have ever invested. Thank you CLS

My kids go to CLS. They have been there since preschool. They love it there. They have good friends and like their teachers. The higher grades are a concern. If you transfer from a public junior high school, get ready to be stressed! They do not practice "grace" or "forgiveness" when it comes to grades. You get an incomplete on assignments for not turning in on time, skipping a question, not reading the directions correctly, not putting your name on your paper, talking too much in class while working on a paper, etc. etc. My kids get good grades but they are under a lot of stress. It is difficult watching they try to cope with the stress and all the pressure. No room for mistakes. Your kid can have an A and then forget their book, get an incomplete and their grade drops! It is so sad to robe a good kid of joy. It is extremely difficult on the parents because they treat your kids like there are in college. They are just kids! High school should be a breeze.
Posted: November 3, 2016
They try not to allow bullying. If there is any issue, they try to get it resolved.
Posted: November 3, 2016
They try to support the kids who have issues by putting them into a "resource classroom" to get caught up. However, if your kid struggles they will hold them back a year. They need to practice grace.
Posted: November 3, 2016
The have a great Principal who truly cares about the kids. Although I wish they would teach grace more.
Posted: November 3, 2016
They try to teacher the kids to love the Lord and to be kind. I haven't noticed any bad behavior.
Posted: November 3, 2016
Yes and no. They are good teachers but grading is super strict. Today, my daughter missed one out of 5 questions on a test. She received 80% dropping her A grade to an A-. My daughter feels horrible for "missing one on the test" and dropping her overall grade in the class. I can't imagine how the other kids feel missing two or more!

Character counts and is taught. Teachers don't let things slide just because it's not math or science. Being a kind, respectful friend matters and is taught too.

We began a search of schools when our daughter was 3 to get a head start. During our search we came across Christ Lutheran. From the moment we had our tour, it felt like home. From the principal to the teachers to the front office staff, every single encounter exposed the joyful passion this group has for the students and the work they do!

Christ Lutheran School is now our #1 reason to stay right where we are until both kids have finished the 8th grade. Not only our children getting an excellent education, they are ENJOYING school, they are being NURTURED by the teachers and staff, my husband and I are INVOLVED in the school community and we have made as many friends as our children have. We feel that our children are SAFE at Christ Lutheran and LOVED by their teachers. This school has great TRADITIONS that have been passed down for 55 years like the buddy programs, the all-school musicals and the desk decorating. Christ Lutheran graduates go on to the high schools of their choice and, I believe, have the proper ACADEMIC and VALUES foundation to thrive wherever that might be.

Although the decision to send a child to private school is a big financial commitment, we don't regret for one minute the sacrifices we have had to make so that our kids could attend Christ Lutheran School. The rigorous education and faith based atmosphere has created a sound foundation as my children move on to high school, college and beyond. They have learned great study habits, time management, social and public speaking skills, and responsibility for their success. In 2009, Christ Lutheran was awarded both the Pacific Southwest District Teacher of the Year award and the Administrator of the Year award. Athletics include volleyball and basketball in their amazing gymnasium facility. The only downside is that they do not currently have a field that allows for outside sports like soccer, football and baseball. Kids who participate in those activities find rec or club teams within their communities. The school has weekly chapel (often led by the students), discipleship classes, and monthly youth group sessions where they can share their love for Christ and learn how they can be dynamic disciples in our communities. Take a tour--you won't be disappointed!

This is the best decision we have made for our family! As working parents, we were very thoughtful in deciding where to send our children to school. We could not be happier than we are with Christ Lutheran! The staff genuinely love our kids! The time they invest in creating an environment where kids not only grow but thrive socially, spiritually and academically is top notch! We have been members of another church for many years, and if we were not, Christ Lutheran would be a place we would plant our own spiritual roots as well. If you are looking for a school where the teachers, principals and staff are extraordinary, progressive and true partners in the education journey, you will be delighted with the gem of a school CLS is! Stop by for a tour .... just be prepared to not want to leave!

What an amazing Environment! My daughter has been attending Christ Lutheran School for 6 years, and she has loved every minute of it! And as a parent...well, if your child is happy, you are happy. She looks forward to going to school every day. The curriculum is top notch. The teachers are excellent as teachers, as well as great friends.....to us as well as our daughter. And the christian atmosphere is loving, nurturing and has really strengthened our daughters faith. Private school is always a financial sacrifice, but I would not change it for anything. Cannot say enough good things about CLS, this school is truly a blessing!

I know I make the right decision about enrolling my two children in Christ Lutheran when I pick them up from school everyday. They are so happy and excited about their day and I know that during the time they spend there they are getting not only the best education but are learning Christian values as well. The teachers truly care about all the students you can see that in each one of them. They are lucky enough to have the best principal I have ever run across. She has created a loving and caring environment for all the children. I am constantly impressed with my girls progress as we go through each grade and we are so excited when each new year begins as we know what wonderful experiences are in store for them with each new teacher. I can't say enough about Christ Lutheran La Mesa, all you have to do is visit. The facility is superior to other schools and very impressive. If you are looking for a Christ centered education in a loving and caring environment you need to come to Christ Lutheran. I wouldn't have my kids go anywhere else.

Christ Lutheran School is a place you certainly feel the love of Jesus Christ present in abundance. I find such joy in my profession as a teacher, and my joy is multiplied by the blessing I have to work at a school that values growth and knowledge of Jesus as our Savior. Christ Lutheran is my home and family in addition to the place I work, and I couldn't be happier to join the other staff members and parents in ministry to share the love of God with students every day. Teachers at CLS love and care about students' growth academically and spiritually and we pray daily for the children in our school. It is a joy to be a part of a 54 year legacy of growth, learning, and success!

There are many elements that go into choosing a school and what is difficult about evaluating the reviews is that the parents who have chosen the school will love it and parents who have had an issue will give it one star. This school has a good Christian atmosphere. Some teachers are experienced, some are not. The curriculum is average. It is not in the best part of town (take a look at the houses across the street when you visit) I tried very hard to be impressed with this school because of the price and the Christ-centered focus. I am still trying, but as of yet, I can not recommend this school, even after having a child attend. We are looking at the other options in San Diego and for what we see for an improvement in location, teacher qualification, and curriculum the price is close to double.

Both of my children attended Christ Lutheran School through 8th grade. This is a wonderful school. The academics are rigorous, the faith-based education is hugely beneficial and the staff is exceptional. CLS has taught my children to be independent, self-starting and responsible - in a loving and caring atmosphere. The teachers are outstanding - both academicly and as Christians. They truly care about your children, both as students and children of God. And how many students have a principal that greets each and every student by name every morning!

Christ Lutheran School is an amazing school that will provide your child with an incredible education, countless extracurricular activities, teachers and administrators who truly care about your chid, and most importanty a Christian educaton! Graduates of Christ Lutheran School find the transition to high school to be easy because of the quality education they received. The greatest joy is to see your child become a fantasic adult who has a heart for our Lord, finds joy in serving others, wants to make a difference in their community and world, is loving, respectful, and has obtained the skills needed to be succesful in college and in life! Thank you Chirst Lutheran School!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking back at the decisions I've made as an adult, I count having sent my child to CLS (for Pre-8) among the best. It was a decision I am now both proud of and grateful for! Every day the administration and teachers at Christ Lutheran reinforced all that my family holds most important; challenging academics,a strong sense of community, and Christian ethics. [The people who are] Christ Lutheran School deserves the credit for the priceless foundation which my high schooler carries with her!

As a parent of a kindergarten graduate, I can say that Christ Lutheran School changed our daughter's life. She had an amazing first year of school with an amazing teacher. On a daily basis she received love, discipline and a challenging curriculum. However, the best part about the school is the faith instruction she received on a daily basis. The highlight of her week was going to chapel and seeing her chapel buddy (an eighth grade student at our school). Her prayers at home became more frequent and specific. I could not be happier with the foundation that was laid for the rest of education.

As my last child begins her senior year in high school I have been reflecting on her and her two siblings past education and what has contributed to their being amazing individuals today. Christ Lutheran is definitely a huge part of the equation. My family has been a part of the Christ Lutheran family for over 20 years. During all of these years my children were nurtured, loved, prepared well for each new step in their education and taught important life skills such as accountability, responsibility and a hard work ethic. Most of all, Christ Lutheran was a place full of love for God. A love that was shown daily by the staff. Not only were they taught about God; they saw Him at work in others around them. I have never regreted sending my children there.

Christ Lutheran School is a distinctly Christian school with academic excellence and a great school community. Jesus is definately at work in this place. The staff create a positive school culture. High expectations for behavior and academics help our kids grow to be accountable, responsible, and Christ-like. Christ Lutheran School is an extension of our family. I highly recommend Christ Lutheran School. I know our children are in excellent hands and are most definately being developed as dynamic disciples of Christ!

I was a student here a couple of years ago. The teachers are nice, and the academic are fine, but bullies are not taken care of.

Our children attended Christ Lutheran preschool and then continued to the elementary. For 2 years, we chose to place our child in a local, well-regarded charter school. Near the end of the second year, we felt that we needed to re-assess our decision. We took the time to do classroom observations in both schools, we analyzed test scores and compared the curriculum. In addition to comparing Christ Lutheran to the charter school, we also compared it to another highly regarded Christian school in San Diego. During this process, we realized that what set Christ Lutheran apart was the high level of accountability with the students. The staff truly cares about each family and student. The school creates many opportunities for the students to work together across the grades. This helps to develop a sense of responsibility and social awareness. There is a unique spirit at Christ Lutheran. It is an educational institution unlike any other that we have experienced. We feel confident that we made the right choice in sending our children to Christ Lutheran.

My family is so blessed to have found Christ Lutheran! We have attended a couple of christian schools in the area and CLS is the best by far. You can see that the teachers and staff love their jobs and the students! The academics are challenging but outstanding. I know my children will flourish both spiritually and academically in all their future endeavors due to the experiences at Christ Lutheran. My children look forward to going to school everyday to be greated by loving and caring educators! I am very proud to say my children attend Christ Lutheran and love every minute of it!!

My husband and I are Blessed so much by this school and staff. When people ask where my kids go to school a smile comes over my face because I love bragging on this school and staff. All the teachers want to be there and truly care for the spiritual and academic needs of the students. Not to mention that the Principle is a Blessing also. She knows all the students names, the parents name and the siblings names. Greets them at the door every morning with a smile and a hug. Really, what other school does that?? I wouldnt want my kids to go to any other school. They are thriving academically and they enjoy going to school. What more could parents ask for!!

CLS has blessed our family in so many ways. My children LOVE to go to school, and we know they are being nurtured by their teachers and the families that attend. Every morning they are greeted at the door with smiles and hugs from their principal and teachers. We have been very pleased with the curriculum and level of academics, but most importantly our daughters' growth in faith and walk with the Lord. You and your family will be blessed at CLS.
