As a preschool parent, Ive had a wonderful experience with Calvary Christian Academy. The teachers are loving, patient, and truly care about each child. The school provides a safe, nurturing environment where kids learn, grow, and are reminded of their value. My child has grown so much since attending, and we are very grateful for this amazing preschool program. Highly recommend!

Our kids have attended CCA for 5 years. In those 5 years, weve seen the teachers and staff continually love on our kids, praying for them and rooting for them to succeed. Having friends at a public school, we have noticed the class work at CCA is far beyond what public school is teaching and its rooted in Christianity. CCA has provided an environment where our kids can be closer to God, grow in His image, become better people all while learning at a higher level than their friends at public school. We love CCA.

CCA has been a true blessing for our family! We have been with CCA for almost 5 years and now have students in pre-school and elementary school. I cannot say enough great things about CCA but one of the reasons we stay at CCA is because of the schools culture and atmosphere. Parents and staff are friendly, kind and supportive. There is a community there that fosters learning and growth for all students. Our children have grown so much in their faith and we love how grounded they are. Thank you CCA family!! Lets continue to provide a solid education and foundation for our children while also growing in God!

Our experience at CCA has been wonderful so far. We have been to public school and other private schools but holistically CCA surpasses them all. We found that having a strong administration is key to ensuring the school reaches its potential and is well run. CCA has an awesome administration that is organized, communicative and available to parents/students. They are always present at school drop off and pick up which to me says a lot. The staff in general are great and show their love for the Lord through kind interactions. We have been happy with the academics and the welcoming environment. We havent had to deal with ongoing bullying or piles of homework. The class sizes are great and the kids seem to get along. The school is small enough to create community but large enough to have lots of friend options. We are happy with the class offering but would love to see Music brought back for k-5 and more traditional elementary school events like: talent show and awards. CCA is missing Spanish, Band and Yearbook as elective offerings for Middle School.

This school is one of the best schools I have ever been associated with. The students are bright, eager to learn, and fun to be around. I am a teacher here, and the school staff and administration are great people to work with and experts in their fields. As an educator, I feel that I am appreciated and a valuable member of the "team." It is a great place to work.

My child attends the elementary school and it is a wonderful environment. Being a private school and therefore smaller than the average public school, my child feels seen and valued. Staff and faculty are able to get to know each child individually. My child also has additional needs and the school and their teacher have accommodated them spectacularly! I commend CCA on their handling of covid protocols and safety. It's clear the children's safety is #1 priority. My child has been doing in-person learning since July 2021 and has not been directly exposed to covid. I will be enrolling my second child into their preschool program and we are proud to be a CCA family. I highly recommend CCA to any family that is looking for an alternative education from the public school system.

Older children abuse and bully the young children and threaten them if they say something it will be worse. The principal and staff known it and don't stop the bullying.
Where are the respect, the integrity, the compassion?
Posted: July 19, 2019
The principal and staff know that there is a lot of bullying and they do nothing, they do not how to help the bullied children and resolve this issue.
Be careful

A lot of bullying, older children bully the younger children, more in the bathrooms, nobody stop them. No respect, no integrity.
The principal and staff do not how to deal with this matters.

CCA makes sure that parents are informed about homework. They send home homework packets and have an online outline of weekly homework. In aftercare, kids work on homework so that parents do not have one more thing to do in the evening.
Posted: March 1, 2019
Kids are being taught high academics, as well as leadership skills as well as a love for God.
Posted: March 1, 2019
There is many opportunities to teach the kids at CCA about character. They are learning daily how to be kind, put others first, apologize or ask for forgiveness, and how to be a good friend to those around them.

CCA has a great color card system for management that is consistent. Lesson plans are posted on Fridays at 9:00. Teachers are available for tutoring before school twice a week. Teachers are highly experienced and are friendly and godly.
Posted: March 1, 2019
CCA has three pillars on which they stand:
1. Simply Jesus
2. Superior Academics
3. Servant Leadership
Posted: March 1, 2019
Leadership does a great job communicating. They are available and open to your ideas and thoughts. They are friendly and approachable.
Posted: March 1, 2019
I would rate this as an excellent school! I absolutely love CCA. My kids have been coming here since 2016, and I am amazed at what they have learned and how much they have grown in the Lord! CCA is our family. We love being here and at the end of the day it is a challenge to leave because they love the aftercare program! Thank you CCA for being an inspiration and educating my kids as the walk in God's truth.

Homework is posted on RenWeb, and is clearly detailed as what to do each day. It is the perfect amount of work given. Students who stay for aftercare can work on homework packet at school.

I attended Calvary Christian Academy for 12 years. As an Alumni, I can say that this school impacted my life in many positive ways. I have made life long friends with facility members and my fellow students. This school has prepared me for my high education and future aspirations. And finally, this school has helped me grow in my faith through the support of my teachers, peers, and the entire staff.

The teachers will work with students and take the time to help with class assignments. After having graduated from Calvary, teachers have helped me with my college courses and studies outside of their regular hours. These teachers will go out of their way to help their students succeed.

Homework was challenging but never time exhausting. Teachers work together to make sure tests and projects are well separated so students are not overwhelmed.
Posted: March 1, 2019
Teachers at CCA are amazing! Not only are they well-versed in their subject they also care so much about the students. No other school will address students learning needs individually and pray for you.
Posted: March 1, 2019
CCA is founded in Jesus and uses biblical studies to encourage integrity, compassion and respect. Students and staff exemplify these characteristics.
Posted: March 1, 2019
Over the past few years, leadership has been poor. However, last year they hired a new headmaster and senior pastor of the church which really changed the school for the better. Leadership effectively disciplines children when necessary, helps students achieve their goals, and pursues the vision of the school.
Posted: March 1, 2019
The school does effectively support students with learning differences. They try to help each student individually with any learning difficulties they may have. My brother who is an alumni of the school had a learning difference and the school (although not experienced in his difference) taught themselves best methods and practices to help him.
Posted: March 1, 2019
The school has a zero tolerance policy on bullying. If someone is bullying staff are quick to disciple the student to proper behavior in a christ-like fashion. Students that fall victim to bullying feel open to sharing their experience with staff members and know that their is refuge with them.
Posted: March 1, 2019
As an alumni, my experience with the school has been life changing to say the least. Not only did I graduate from a four-year university, Calvary set a foundation for my life and brought me to Christ. My time there has allowed me to have experiences like playing varsity football and basketball, go on missions trips, but also sufficiently educated me so that I felt prepared for college.
Posted: March 1, 2019
The school not only benefited my children but it was also a great benefit for our family as a seed of salvation was planted through action and prayer from the teachers. The school supported the values and character that we believe are important and gave our sons an opportunity to go on to major universities. I recommend CCA for anyone that values education and character in a Christian environment.
Posted: March 1, 2019
Homework is planned well and even though it's a lot it allows flexibility for holidays and family time, it really pushes the students to excel.
Posted: March 1, 2019
Teachers are very well qualified and care about the students. They exceed expectations academically and look for opportunities to pray for students and families.
Posted: March 1, 2019
As a parent of 3 boys that became Godly men while attending the school, I believe that the school reinforced the values and character that are important in human beings and laid a Christian foundation that will help them for the rest of their lives.
Posted: March 1, 2019
The school leadership recently made changes to greatly improve leadership. The changes have not only refocused on the three pillars of superior academics, simply Jesus, and servant leadership but have also made it possible to create a great community with students, parents and teachers.
Posted: March 1, 2019
As a proud parent of a son that had difficulties learning and was diagnosed with a learning difference, the school exceeded in helping him attain a academic scholarship to attend a four year university.
Posted: March 1, 2019
There is no tolerance for bullying at the school and they deal effectively through both action and prayer for the students.
Posted: February 28, 2019
The amount of homework has been adjusted to continue to provide high academic rigor and still allow students to participate in extracurricular activities both through the school and off campus.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Teachers are caring and go the extra mile to ensure students feel accepted and loved. They exhibit the love of Christ with grace.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Absolutely. Students are taught that love for others is essential in our society. Students are shown grace and taught the importance of moral character.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Teachers work to support students through free morning and after-school tutoring. Teachers are also prepared to use different methods of instruction to reach students with varying learning styles.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Bullying is not tolerated and dealt with from the classroom to the administration.
Posted: February 28, 2019
As the parent of a graduate, and current student and as a teacher at CCA, I can say with all honesty that students at CCA receive the kind of education that cultivates their spiritual, academics and moral character. I highly recommend CCA to anyone looking for a private Christian education.
Posted: February 28, 2019
I would say "excellent". My child has been in this school for 8 years now, and it is a very safe environment. The faculty and staff are very loving people, very professional, highly qualified. We are not perfect, but as parents we have been very very blessed with Calvary Christian Academy
Posted: February 28, 2019
I consider the amount of homework balanced, and well-rounded (my experience in elementary, and more specifically, 5th grade), They emphasize on math and ELA, but also history and science. They have homework for Spanish, too. I can see the good and very positive results of this area.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Teachers are excellent, many of them highly qualified. The quality of their teaching is very good. They follow up if there may be an issue or a problem. They are very caring. They pray for their students. They communicate with parents. They work the extra mile.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Their motto is Simply Jesus, but more than eing "simply" Jesus, the Lord Christ is their foundation fot everything, and as they follow Him bringing servant leadership to their students, they follow what the Bible teaches, and there is nothing that can develop a stronger character than the words and example of the Creator and of the One Who says that He is the Truth. They are committed to raise thinking disciples that will follow in the footsteps of the Master, and in that, integrity, compassion and respect naturally will follow.
Posted: February 28, 2019
They have been able to navigate the good times and the bad times equally well. They are honest, caring, and seek God for all the decisions they need to make every day.
Posted: February 28, 2019
I don't have seen many students with learning differences, but the few that I have seen, I believe the school makes a strong effort in accommodating these students as much as possible.
Posted: February 28, 2019
As the school constantly teaches the ways of the Master (the Lord Jesus), when cases of bullying appear, they take immediate and effective action. They talk to the students involved, their parents, and the discipline and steps necessary are taken, with firmness, but also with mercy and compassion.

In the Middle School/Upper School Math Department, homework is given as practice and graded as a completion component. We want students to grow in the confidence to practice math without having the consequence of being wrong. We have a growth mindset.
Posted: February 28, 2019
I have been teaching at Calvary Christian Academy for 11 years. I have continuing relationships with alumni who continue to come back to the school letting me know of their math success in college.
Posted: February 28, 2019
As a pillar of the school, Simply Jesus and Servant Leadership, students are asked to understand the core of their identity in Christ as well as look for ways to serve at school and in the community. This year, the student small groups are led by upper classmen and serve to connect the upper school students with lower grades as well as middle school students.
Posted: February 28, 2019
2019-2020 has brought in new leadership to the school. The current head of schools, Jay Henry has been a school administrator for over 20 years. He has a passion for serving Jesus, the students, and the staff. He strives for excellence while also loving us.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Students who have IEPs can be served by many aspects of the school. The school offers tutoring to students before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Many of the teachers are available beyond traditional hours. In the math department, an elective is offered, Math Lab to give students extra time to work on math as well as be tutored by a math teacher who teaches all levels.
Posted: February 28, 2019
Bullying, unfortunately, is a part of growing up as people as people have hurts, habits, and hangups and are innately selfish. CCA is an environment in which we strive to interact with students to help them grow as individuals and interact with one another as well as staff. Conflict is almost impossible to avoid, but it does grow individuals to embark in the world.
Posted: February 28, 2019
As a staff member as well as a mom to three students at CCA, I am estactic to be a part of the community. I have a child in the PreSchool, the Elementary School and the Upper School. My daughters in the PreSchool and the Elementary School feel loved on a daily basis. I never struggle to get them up for school, nor ready in their uniforms. They are excited to go to school each day and come home singing Christian songs. My high school student appreciates the family community as well. He has been here since Kindergarten.

I feel the new principal ruined the school. He seems to care about money a bit too much, maybe that's why they starting incorporating common core (which is terrible, a step back) even teachers dislike it. There seems to be a different vibe now to the school where the kids of parents that donate and volunteer get special treatment. Wasn't like that before, before it felt like a big family now it feels separated. For the high monthly tuition there is too much book learning (memorizing) and not enough art, music, gardening, nutrition, sports or hands on learning. Just sit in a classroom all day and memorize. Oh he also made the school day longer and school lunches are extremely unhealthy, other than religion it seems just like a smaller public school.
Posted: May 5, 2016
The teachers and principals and headmaster work together to create a safe, warm, academic environment where students can learn, have fun, and grow to their best potential. The school uses the common-core to report to parents in the most accurate way where students glow and where they still need to grow. Instead of reporting a grade of 85% in Math or English the skills are taught and accessed and reported. Parents and teachers can then work together to help the student achieve their best for each skill. This school is fantastic, their star test results show phenomenal growth.

I don't think the teachers and the principal are honest! They tell the same thing to all the parents! Lol
Posted: April 16, 2016
This is not a good school. Their academics are bad. I'm transferring my kids to another school for next year. They did their assessment test on the new school and they were behind on math! Now they have to take summer school (math) to be on the same page next year on the new school.
For the amount you pay on this school you would expect the opposite!
They have common core which I don't like. How in the world does a private school having the option choose to have common core.
Their teaching method is like they have a box and every child needs to fit in that box. They don't focus on the child, they focus on the method and if your child don't fit, so sorry!
And finally they don't have good teachers! They are always moody and is like the don't enjoy their work!
Believe me there are really good Christian private schools in the area for almost half of the price!
Posted: April 15, 2016
This school has a very bad community and has bad academics. I used to be here, and when I moved to a new school, I saw how behind this school was. There's no room for progression even if your student is in advanced math because of the teachers. There's only a handful that are good. The community is terrible. There is frequent bullying with no intervention by staff. People there are judgmental superficially and won't have fair discussions of other opinions. The community is very exclusive to staff children and those following social norms.

Despite teaching important values, the school doesn't reinforce them to the students. There's a lot of hypocrisy, mainly among students.

I hate to leave bad review but I feel the need to. Some staff and preschool teachers can be so rude and unfriendly that make you feel uncomfortable. I believe if this is a Christian school the atmosphere should be more pleasant. Kids are often mistreated. The preschool teachers seem unhappy and always moody. I will start searching for a new school. I am just not happy with the school performance.

This is a great school. My kids have been attending for a couple of years now and I have seen a positive change in their demeanor and confidence since they started attending. Like any school there are teachers that I don't care for but I would say 99% of the teachers really do love their jobs and love their students. They pray with them and help them if they are not understanding the lessons. The workload is challenging but their goal is not to just get them through high school but prepare them for college and to set them up not just to get into college but to succeed once they are there. It has been an overall positive experience. I would highly recommend this school.

The teachers and the administration work in complete partnership with the family to nurture the mind, body and soul of each student. I can't think of a safer or more nurturing school to entrust my child to each day.

My children have been attending preschool for two years and I absolutely love it. I teach in. public school and the atmosphere at CCA is so different. It's a small community that really seems to live what they preach. They have high academic standards and most teachers seem to really care. I decided to have my children continue their education here as long as our finances permit us to do so. I highly recommend their preschool and I really hope in a few years a can come back to this site to highly recommend education in other levels.

Calvary is fabulous! The teachers and administrative staff are loving and supportive. My son's teacher is experienced and knowledgeable about children and their needs. The curriculum is challenging but not frustrating. My son is halfway through kindergarten, and he is already reading. He has developed a great love for the Lord and the Bible as a result of the teaching at Calvary.

All my children have attended Calvary Christian Academy in Chula Vista. I am very grateful for the love and support that the teaching staff has shown each of my children. The school moto, "Servant Leadership, Superior Academics, Simply Jesus" truely shows. This school really loves and prays for our students.
