My son just finished 6th grade, and has been here since 3rd. Teachers are excellent and caring. We are looking forward to Junior high at Horizon.

To answer the question why so many reviews on same dates, sometimes at parent meetings we are reminded to share our comments with the community. So there are probably little spurts of reviews. A little PR from happy parents never hurts. But yes, these are real reviews!

Why lots of the reviews are on the same dates? Are those real comments ???

Great Parent help program. Friendly staff, safe place for children to receive an education and learn morals and values. Provides a firm foundation for children.

We love this school. It is such a blessing to have my kids spiritual and education needs attended to. The school administration, teachers, and after school care staff have all been wonderful.

I would spend my last dime to keep my kids at this school. I have 4 kids ages 7 to 17. They have only gone to this school. It is true that they get a great education, small class sizes, great teachers and fun athletics. But the think that I love the most is that this is truly a Christ-centered school. Our oldest daughter just got accepted to her dream college, UCSD. Thanks Horizon!!

I have had a daughter attend the elementary school (and later Jr. High/High School) from kindergarten on up. I am so grateful for the wonderful teachers, staff, and most of all spiritual guidance she received. My son, now in first grade, is also in the elementary school.. He has a fiery personality but with the structure of the classroom, and kindness of the teachers, he has really thrived. I love the balance of respect and fun that is instilled in the kids at this school.

What can i say, small class size, great teachers, fair price, and amazing afterschool program all are reasons i make the 20 minute drive from my home to take my 6 year old there!!

My son has been going to HCA since K, now he's in 1st Grade. We cant thank the faculty & staff enough for their dedication & kindness to our kids. Shoutout to Ms Kieger & Mrs Files for nurturing our wiggly fireball. We like their curriculum, after school program, enrichment classes, TrailLife USA program, & the family culture. Godwilling, we pray to keep our son at Horizon schools through High School.

Our son has been attending HCA since preschool and we love it. The staff is great. Our son is getting a great education in environment filled with God.

I love this school for the reasonable rates, great teachers, small class sizes, and centering on Christ.

As an elementary school teacher I was extremely picky in choosing a school for my children. I had heard that the curriculum this school used about five years ago wasn t great so I spent much time looking through their curriculum and asking questions about the way they teach. I am extremely impressed with their current curriculum and the added fun they supplement to the daily teaching. The kids at this school are WAY ahead of their public school peers. And, even better, my children LOVE learning and enjoy school! Class size is aprox 15-21 per class with 2 classes per grade level. In my professional opinion, this school does everything well-- academics, extras (art, computer, music, P.E., daily Spanish, etc.), & has a wonderful loving environment. I also appreciate that they have a Power-Learning-Program for struggling students as well as though who excel above their peers at grade level. This school is a gem! I really encourage anyone considering it to tour it and ask to sit in on a class. The colorful classrooms, large playground, and friendly faces will ensure you don't regret your visit! This is a great elementary school- wish they were all this good!

My daughter has been at this school for 3 years. Awesome school. I love it and she loves it as well. It is the best value for private school in San Diego. The teachers are committed, caring and wonderful. The school is focused on reading, writing and math but my daughter also has Spanish, music and p.e. All included by the way. I know that my daughter is learning to be a good student but she is also learning to become a "good citizen". They are consistently encouraged to be kind, giving, inclusive and forgiving. She is learning so much everyday. They also have the best before and after school program called HYP. It is affordable and is on campus. My daughter loves being there and wants to be there. HYP also offers summer camp and care on all "no school" days.

This is not only an amazing school, it is a family. They take care of those in need and care about the entire child-intellectual, spiritual, social and emotional. And the academics are well thought out and far ahead many other schools. We love it!

I love that my children can attend a school where they receive an excellent education! I chose HCA because the morals and values exhibited by the teaching staff, leadership of the school and other students and teachers echo those that my children are learning in my home. We have sacrificed a lot to send our children to a private, Christian school, and will continue to do so. We are making an investment in our children, their future and the future of our country!

My child has been a student at Horizon since Pre-school. She will be finishing 5th grade and I am looking forward to many more years at Horizon. The teachers are loving and kind, but yet firm when they need to be, such as zero tolerance for bulling or any mean behavior. They teach compassion and respect for others. The class size of 15-17 is ideal. I love that they offer many enrichment classes, Spanish, choir, band, art, sports, cheer, just to name a few. The staff is always willing to be available if needed and the parent involvement is wonderful. I know when my child is there, she is safe and happy

Posted: February 17, 2014

As a faculty member I could not be more blessed. The community cultivated at Horizon is so genuine. I love the other teachers who work alongside me and I know they work so hard for their students. The school truly places God as Lord over the school.

My daughter has attended Horizon elementary school for the past three years. She is thriving in both academics and behavior. I am not a Christian person who goes to church on more that Christmas and Easter. My husband and I were raised as non-church going Catholics and Christians and do not consider ourselves "very religious." So when we were looking at kindergartens originally, we were not looking for a Christian school. I happened to have two friends whose children attend Horizon. Their kids are so bright, well spoken, and well behaved that I checked out Horizon. Living in Clairemont, I felt my best options were choicing in to another public school or private school. Horizon is affordable. We pay less monthly than we did for daycare. The teachers are experienced, wonderful, and know each child so well. The principle is even involved and knows the children as well. The school size is perfect- it is not too small yet not so large that your child can get lost in the masses. Besides the excellent academic program, the children are learning about God and Jesus, and how to be a good person.

My husband and I wanted our son to be in a school that provided him a good education and encouraged him to be a healthy, happy and caring person. HCA has gone beyond our expectations. Our kindergartner is reading, writing, and teaching us about biblical teachings that he is learning which are guiding him to be an exceptional young man. He is taught by caring teachers who know how to balance discipline and encouragement. We could not be more happy with our decision to send our boy to HCA. I couldn't imagine sending him anywhere else.

The Teachers are Great, and my Daughter Loves Going to This School! The Other Parents are great and love the Values!

WOW! What a positive change Horizon has cultivated in my daughter! We came to Horizon after my daughter finished kindergarten at a public school. Though she was moved up, my daughter was going into first grade without mastering the academic basics. Horizon gave us the option to have her repeat kindergarten or go into the first grade with the knowledge that she would have a lot of catching up to do. My husband and I decided to have her go forward into the first grade. I am so glad we did. HCA gave us tools to help my daughter. But most importantly, is my daughter s outstanding teacher. She just has a way of teaching my daughter and the class with structure, but makes it fun to learn. My daughter is simply thriving at HCA. My husband and I are so thrilled of the amazing progress my daughter has made. Many thanks Horizon Academy for your care and encouragement for our family and especially towards my daughter. Our family cannot say enough of how wonderful our Horizon Academy experience has been.

My daughter has attended Horizon Christian Academy since Preschool. She is now an HCA Senior and making college plans. The spiritual, social, emotional, and academic experience at Horizon Christian Academy has been a most rewarding, life changing experience for our daughter as well as our family. We love Horizon Christian Fellowship and Schools and are so thankful for coming alongside our family - all these years - being a part of lives - and coming alongside to help shape the Godly young woman our daughter has become! Thank you Horizon Staff and Church for your hearts and ministries that serve tirelessy and selflessly to better your Church Family, our Community and those we come into contact with on a daily basis! Thank you MacIntosh Family for answering God's call to serve all these years in San Diego County and abroad! We love you! :)

My 4 children have each attended Horizon Christian Academy since Preschool. Currently we have one in Elementary, Junior High, High School and a recent graduate. We love the teachers and the caring environment. The students have a wonderful bond with their teachers and each other. It has always felt like a family to us. I love that I can be a parent helper in each of my children's elementary classes and my opinions are heard and respected. Although these are tough economic times, the Lord has provided a way to afford the school each year. Our children have made it clear to us that they do not want to go anywhere else. They have never been put down or bullied and are confident in their walk with the Lord.

The education my children are receiving at Horizon Christian Academy is more than my wife and I hoped for. Our daughter is in 1st grade and our son is in Junior Kindergarten. They both attended the preschool at the main campus prior to attending the elementary school. For us, the most important thing at there age is that they are in a community where he focus is on developing their spiritual life. It was glaringly obvious from the moment we met with Carrie DeMoll during out daughter's application process that this is the #1 priority at HCA. As a concerned parent, who wants them to embrace a faith that is more and more shunned in out society, it is a comfort to know that I have a community where they are spiritually fed and safe. In addition, academically, our children have thrived. Both of our children continually amaze us with the level of reading, math, and reasoning skills they have acquired at such a young age, certainly levels I don't remember attaining at such a young age. Having been fortunate enough to be a parent helper in every class to date, it's clear that this is because of the dedication the teachers have to the children and their academic growth.

My son is currently enrolled in kindergarten (2013-2014). I love the personalized attention he receives. The teachers really seem to care and I love the family atmosphere. Everyone seems to know everyone, and it makes me feel better knowing my son won't get "lost in the crowd". The principal is extremely involved and knows most of the parents and children by name. Not only is the school committed to its Christian principles, but the academics instilled are far above what I expected. There really is a focus on preparing the students academically and compared to other schools, I personally believe the school is "ahead of the game".

HCA has provided a tremendous foundation for both of our kids! The faculty and administration are absolutely committed to superior-quality education with a Christian worldview, and an emphasis on supporting families to nurture and raise their children in a Christ-centered environment. My daughter attended preschool through high school and was more than prepared to excel in college, graduating this spring with a double-major! HCA equips in every way!

Posted: February 3, 2014

All 3 of my children have gone through HCA. This school has provided them a solid foundation in Biblical as well as strong moral and ethical principles. The teachers and administration are very supportive and recognize that the parents are the primary educators of their children. They serve as an extension of our home. Parent involvement in strongly encouraged and welcomed. We are so thrilled with the education our children received at HCA! It's a great school for those that want a Christ-centered education!

My family and I have been so blessed to be a part of this school/family! We started attending the Horizon preschool with my son and now he is in fifth grade and now my middle daughter is attending the preschool! God and family always come first! The teachers and staff are amazing! Curriculum is challenging and advanced. I never have to worry when my kids are at school!

Horizon Christian Academy is such a gem amongst the private schools in San Diego. My 1st grader attends the Elementary school and my 2 yr old attends the preschool 2 days a week. I am 100% certain that my kids are being taught at a higher academic level (Compare this to the public school's "Common "Core"), are being show by their teachers and school staff the love Jesus, how to love and respect others Biblically(you will not find this at a public school!), and how to work hard and have fun while doing so! Our family is giving this school 5 big stars :)

Posted: February 3, 2014

My son has been going to Horizon since preschool and he absolutely loves it. His teachers have been amazing and he has grown so much in his faith and he actually looks forward to going to school each day.

Horizon Christian Academy has been a solid rock of caring education for my children. Each teacher/staff member has been faithful to teach and inform effectively. They respond to inquiries from me as a parent with a positive outlook. Two of our children have already gone through the Jr. Senior High School and are thriving. Our elementary school child can't wait to attend Horizon Jr. Senior High which speaks volumes to me as a parent who considers what school each should attend every new school year. HCA K-6 is an upstanding school with great values and we are very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

This private Christian school is a gem in the community. If you want your child to learn in a wholesome and nurturing environment, then this is the school for you. From the moment you step onto campus, you will know why Horizon Christian Academy is the school you will want your child to attend. The teacher/student ratio is low. The curriculum exceeds state standards, and the outstanding teachers are fair and kind. There is an absence of bullying and the children love recess and playing together. The running club is a favorite of mine! My child also loves computer, art, library, Spanish and music. The hot lunch program provides healthy organic food, and the lunch duty personnel provide for such a great time for the children to eat lunch, while also encouraging manners and healthy conversation. This school takes every aspect of the student into consideration, and encourages excellent manners, respect, responsibility, time management, and most of all, learning about Jesus Christ and His Word. Weekly chapel is wonderful. I especially enjoy parent helping and being able to see my child thrive in such a loving Christian environment. I am so grateful for this school. 5 Stars

Loving christian based school. Small family feel, you can feel God's love display through faculty and parents for the children. My child has attended since preschool. Know he is in 3rd grade.

Posted: February 2, 2014

I placed my girl at Horizon when she turned 1st Grade. Now she is 3rd Grade. We love Horizon because it is a very honest, simple, down-to-earth, turn to Christianity school. The teachers are great Christians, they walk their talk, and teaching my girl to be a genuine follower of Christ. I compared Horizon with other Christian private schools in SD at the time, and three year down the road now, I am so glad that I made the right choice for my girl's education. The school handle bullying issues in a very godly manner, and my girl love the Wednesday morning chapel. The principal gives a practical, and funny message to the children every week. They don't shine away from issues, but handle them with loving care, and sensibility. I am thankful that my girl is surrounded by good Christian leaders who treasure and uphold the Word of God.

A blessing only begins to describe how I feel about this school, both my daughter and son have gone there from preschool through 6th grade. When I drop the kids off but offer to pray with them, it totally satisfies my heart and spirit to hear them pray for their teachers as well as for the other students. This school has been a haven for them and every sacrifice my wife and I have made to have them here is well worth it, Being a parent teacher helper allowed me to see the kids as they developed into the young individuals that they have become and my heart is full of joy at knowing the they appreciate going to this school. God bless and keep you.

In my opinion, this is the BEST SCHOOL in San Diego!! If you are looking for a Christ-centered school, you have FOUND IT! From the principal, to the teachers, to the health clerk, to the office staff, they are TOP NOTCH. They love the Lord with all their heart and it shows with every student and parent that walks on to the campus. My kids cannot wait to come to school each day. The class sizes are small so every student will get the attention they deserve. The teachers are loving, kind, patient, and love children. It clearly shows. Every day there is Bible and prayer time. Every Wednesday, there is Chapel and a "Student of the Week" from every classroom. The academics are Top Notch and there is even a program for those who have high test scores. I have loved this school since the day I stepped foot onto it 7 years ago. The parents here are highly involved and are very welcoming. I have nothing but GOOD to speak of this amazing school.

Pros: Separate classrooms/teachers for extras (art, music, P.E., library, computers); all excellent & weekly! Kids get Spanish, daily, w/roaming teacher (she rocks!- conversational taught thru fun games). Best balance of traditional ed (read/study/test) w/ hands-on & fun (crafts, experiments, games, projects, etc). 15-21 kids per class & 2 classes per every gr lvl (JrK-6). Huge playground! 'Family' feeling to school. Not a lot of hwk (K-3: pkt on Mon. due Fri.; hardly any so kids can be kids when home!) Cons: Uniforms (tho once purchased can trade in all future yrs). Tuition (tho cheapest around & parent discount volunteering allows you to get feel for class/students). Website doesn't tell much (call w/questions, visit open house, or tour) Other: Lots of parties/activities. Mileage club, cheer, choir, after-school enrichment (orchestra/band, mosaic, etc). Chapel super positive (recommend you visit to get family feel). Teachers LOVE their jobs & the kids. Everyone knows everybody. Power Learning Program for struggling/advanced. Kinder has aides & is FUN & academically SUPER strong (this amazed me)! Tour this Christian school & ask to observe classes- you won't be disappointed!

This is an excellent elementary school in terms of education (my child is a year ahead of neighbors in a public school), morals (they teach based on the Bible/Golden rule, manners (sounds like the parents with negative reviews were too permissive in their parenting), and overall value (have you checked the prices lately?). Teachers are caring. Parents are involved. Children are excelling.

I have two children currently enrolled at HCA-Elm. There is a great family and community atmosphere at HCA. It really has the feel of team educating with staff and parents, not only learning the fundamentals you expect, but also morals. As for the curriculum, both of my kids are about a year ahead of their friends in various public schools. All of the teachers we have had are very caring and always open to parent communication. Low cost for private school in SD.

Posted: December 18, 2013

The teachers really do care about the student's, and they treat them like family but the curriculum could use a lot of work.

Posted: October 5, 2013

The teachers really do love the children. They still offer music, art, physical education and computers weekly, where other schools are cutting these programs out. They've introduced running club, healthy hot lunch choices and after school enrichment programs which really makes this a great school. Administration could improve communication and fund raising efforts to improve infrastructure. That is why they didn't get 5 stars.

Posted: May 14, 2013

We have mixed reviews on the school. Three of our kids attended and none of them thought they were well prepared for the future. Staff is loving but certain departments are very weak. It seems to have a lot of athletic favoritism as well. Would not recommend. It is still one of the more inexpensive private schools though.

I used to attend Horizon Christian Academy before moving out of state. Honestly, this school is a wonderful and a great place for children to grow with God and with themselves. The elementary staff is wonderful and so is the Jr./Sr. High staff. The curriculum is not 100% great but it's still very good. The teachers are caring and the school spirit is wonderful. Sports are wonderful as well and the kids are accepting. I would give anything to go back to HCA.

Both of my children graduated from Horizon high school. The school helped make them who they are today having strong morals and values. Academically, it may not have been as strong as it could have been. But, what was lacking there made up in teaching strong christian values. It was worth the money we spent! The teachers really care and go above and beyond. Overall, an excellent experience.

Posted: October 5, 2010

I attended Horizon Christian Academy from 7th to 12th grade and I loved it. All of the staff are there for one reason- to spread God's love. If I hadn't have gone to Horizon, I would not at all be who I turned out to be today. Maybe the academic standards aren't as high as other schools but so what! The only thing that matters in our lives is our relationship with Jesus Christ and Horizon is continuously giving the kids opportunities to get to know Him better.

Posted: April 2, 2010

This is he WORST school that both of my children have ever attended, I pulled them out after their first year in the middle school. The teachers are very mean to my children. I mean, its OK to be strict, well, you need to be strict, but these teachers are MEAN. The principal was not good, he was oblivious of everythin going on at the school. My children also had problems whn they went to a public school, because the curricular standards were very high. In MY opinion, a huge waste of $7,500 per child. My kids have done much better so far in the Sweetwater District, in the South Bay area.
