If you had asked me last week whether I would recommend this school, I would have said yes without hesitation. Unfortunately, after what happened at the back-to-school event, I can no longer say that with the same confidence.
My daughter shared that she was placed with boys who had previously made inappropriate comments toward her and bullied her. I reached out to the school to ask whether she could be moved to a different classroom because of the history and the impact it has had on her. I was told by the new principal that, due to the needs of other students, they are unable to make an adjustment to my daughters placement.
My daughter has never been in trouble at school, has consistently earned excellent grades, and has not had any behavioral or academic issues. I am struggling to understand why an accommodation could not be made for a student with an otherwise exemplary record, particularly when we are a military family and one of her parents is currently on the other side of the world.
As a parent, I am simply asking the school to take my daughters well-being and sense of safety into consideration. I had a great deal of confidence in this school, which is why this situation has been especially disappointing.

Our family has been part of Rockrimmon Elementary for several years, and I waited to write a review until having a longer experience with the school. One of our students has an IEP for specific learning disorders and experiences anxiety, and we deeply appreciate the support systems the school has in place.

While the IEP process does take time, we have seen meaningful academic and emotional growth. Communication has also improved with the addition of the ParentSquare platform, which makes it easier to share quick updatessuch as when a morning has been challenging or something may affect my students' ability to focus.

Overall, Rockrimmon has been a positive and welcoming place for us. Students are greeted each morning at drop-off areas and entrances, which sets a supportive tone for the day. Specialists and support staff play an active role in the school community, and many adultsfrom specials teachers to custodial staff, paraprofessionals, and counselorstake time to connect with students, helping the school feel welcoming and safe.

Ive noticed strong expectations for student behavior and respect. During the morning pledge, everyone stopseven in the hallwaysand students consistently move through the building calmly and quietly (I was impressed by this the first time I saw this and it caught me off guard.) Rockrimmon does an excellent job setting clear expectations early in the year, creating an environment where students can thrive.

No school is going to be perfect or meet everyone's expectations. But my experience is that kids are being educated and encouraged to take ownership of their own actions and learning. I love that my students are able to go to a school where the teachers and staff strive to learn every student's name.

Rockrimmon Elementary is a wonderful school community with strong family engagement and an outstanding PTO that truly partners with the school to support students and staff. The IB approach to learning encourages my child to develop curiosity, critical thinking, and global-mindedness, helping my children grow academically and as caring individuals. The school places a strong emphasis on SEL, creating a safe, inclusive environment where students feel known and supported. Rockrimmon does an excellent job meeting the needs of diverse learners, providing meaningful enrichment for TAG students while also offering targeted support for students with reading difficulties. It is a school where all students are encouraged to thrive.

Rockrimmon Elementary is a safe place for kids with excellent teachers and staff. My daughter has thrived and enjoys going to school at Rockrimmon Elementary.
I love that they include social and emotional learning into the curriculum.

10/10. Switching to this school was the best decision. Once you get involved, you will quickly learn how much love and care goes into every decision made. Whether your child is TAG or has an IEP or Special Needs or running right in the middle of the pack- the teachers and staff make every effort to create an environment for your child to thrive. I would give 10 stars if I could!

We love this school! Back in 2019 when I did a tour, I instantly felt at home in this school. It's nestled back in a neighborhood and has a small, hometown feel. We have been pleased with all of the teachers over the past 6 years, and our children have as well! We love the IB experience, and have loved our Counselors as well. We have seen the SPED program grow as well, and being a weekly volunteer in the school, I've been able to see these children thrive. As a parent, I also feel that my children are safe at this school, and the kids love our Security Officer! There are many opportunities to be involved in Rockrimmon as well, from PTO, to field trips, to weekly volunteer opportunities. Principal Bonilla and Assistant Principal Izzo are amazing as well. Not to mention our supportive Front Office staff. We will miss this school once our kids age out!

Rockrimmon Elementary is like a small town elementary school situated in a larger city. Most of the students live near the school with kids walking and riding their bikes to school. There is a strong PTO which provides community events like the school carnival and World Tour Day. The staff and principal are very engaged and go above and beyond. Of course like many things, you get out what you put in. Get involved and you will not regret it.

We love Rockrimmon Elementary School! This is the sweetest neighborhood school. All the staff knew my daughters name in the first two weeks of her kindergarten year. The teachers & staff are so committed to the kids and their whole person growth. We love the IB program and how its integrated for every child! Our daughter came home talking about the definition of integrity and we just love how shes growing in this caring environment.

Our military family just moved here last January and this is the BEST school with the most amazing teachers! We moved here from Florida and over the course of a year my 2nd grade son has skyrocketed with improvement! There are tons of opportunities to get plugged in with the school, extremely welcoming and involved in the community as well! IB schools have changed my perspective on learning and these teachers frequently go through trainings to stay on top of the curriculum. The cherry on top is how happy my son is here with his teachers, friends and classes! Thank you so much Rockrimmon Elementary!

The principle, staff and teachers at Rockrimmon are fantastic. We visited several other public and private schools in the city before deciding on Rockrimmon. Best decision ever! Dont let the scores from this site mislead you. This is the best school in the city.

My daughter was here for 5th grade and had such unique experiences that really prepared her for middle school. Students performed a mock trauma and she loved it! My son has been here the last 2 years and has really enjoyed his teachers and the units he has completed. We love this school so much we choice in every year. Rockrimmon is so much more than just a score its a community that cares. Dont settle going some where else. Give your child the foundation of success.

Rockrimmon is one of the smaller elementary schools in Academy District 20. The teachers and staff truly care about each student's academic growth. Family involvement is welcome and encouraged. Among other events, Rockrimmon offers the Missoula Children's Theater program, enrichment classes, and World Tour Day.

I have had 3 children attend this school since 2010. I have one child who is still here. This school is wonderful. Rockrimmon has met the academic and social needs of my children. They are each different and this school has been a good fit for each one. The parents I have met are wonderful. The teachers my children have had over the years are AMAZING! The World Tour Day event this school has is top notch, and every school should have one. I can't believe the school rating is not higher!

Both my children have been at the school since Kindergarten. One of my children has a reading disability and ALL the teachers from K-5 have met his needs with FLYING COLORS! My other child is higher on the academic scale and so far K-4 the teachers have not only met her needs but push her to develop her skills even further! I could not be happier with Rockrimmon Elementary and all the teachers and staff. They are all so friendly, down to earth and very approachable.

I adore this school for my 1st and 3rd graders. There are so few kids that the principal knew whose mom I was in the first week of school. As a nomadic military family, that kind of instant community is priceless! The PTO isn't a bunch of snooty mean girls like the last school my children attended. They're just normal parents trying to help the kids enjoy their school year as best they can. The staff has been so kind and welcoming and the teachers were stellar for my children and their special needs. I am thoroughly impressed. Don't believe the low rating. There has been a huge staff turnover and the ratings reflect old irrelevant issues.

Rockrimmon is a fantastic school! It is too bad the reviews don't get wiped out after a few years because there is an entirely different staff than here was a few years ago. Some of the great teachers are still here but many have changed. There is a new principal as of last year as well. This school has been amazing for my boys and I feel spoiled that they go to Rockrimmon! They are learning to become critical thinkers and caring people! I support this school 100% and appreciate the work of all the staff!

My granddaughter attends this school. She had has a very good teacher in Ms. Coulihan. I like the school and her teacher and I'm impressed with many things I have seen and the care and attention the staff dedicates to students. I am appalled at some of the comments that several ignoramus parents leave here. No public school has either the finances nor available resources to give 100% attention to just one child. NO they do not have the luxury of time to send daily reports or test scores. Teachers work very, very hard and "some" incredibly naive or flat out ignorant people/parents have unrealistic lofty expectations. Try remembering that parents are the first, the fundamental and the ongoing teachers of their own child. Btw, I am a very well educated and retired schoolteacher and my children did not attend the very best schools. They did not have exceptionally great teachers but the teachers were good and they tried the best they could
My children went on to get either a master's degree or Ph.D. They did so because of caring teachers and especially my wife and I , as parents supported public education did not denigrate the teachers. Try owning some of the responsibility of educating your child. Choose to be pro-active instead of reactive. You can be part of the problem or part of the solution. Rockrimmon Elementary School is great.I am retired and I was both h.s. school, elementary teacher and college instructor. I know public education and I know about sub par parenting. Respectfully, M. My kids have attended 3 different elementary schools. I have never seen teachers that care as much about kids and challenging them at all levels that they are at. The teachers care about the child as a whole and not just academic performance. I couldn't have anything more positive to say about this school!!!

One of the worst schools my child has ever attended. I've seen a few great teachers and some horrible. The principle is not qualified to run a school and don't get me started on the counselor. I volunteer one to two days a week. I saw student's struggling when helping with centers. I told the teacher that those children needed extra help and she said she would look into, she never did. I brought it up again that there were a few every week that didn't understand the lesson. The teacher just sent home more homework for those kids. It is so sad to see how a few of these teachers could careless! I'm glad to be there myself to see, but I feel for the parents that are dealing with the kids that don't understand. The teacher teaches once and that is it. I wish I could get their contact info, I would let everyone know why their child is falling behind.

I'm going to start off on a positive note. The parents really do a lot, to make this school better for the children. I've been at this school for three years. This year, I have seen a big change. A lot of people have negative things to say about some of the teachers and principal. The first two years we loved this school. Our teachers were great. Thoughtful and you could tell they really cared, and liked being a teacher. This year we got a teacher, that doesn't put much effort into teaching the kids the lessons. She also stricks me as a person that doesn't like her job anymore. I've made several complaints along with other parents. I've made them to the principal, as well. I keep getting the same old thing, "our school is wonderful, our teachers are the best." She is just so proud of them! I agree,there are some terrific teachers. But there are also some that need to retire or be fired.I find myself at night, teaching my child how to do math and spelling. I will no longer be here next year, as my children will all be Iin middle school. I hope the new principal, will do a better job. Not only listening to parents, but making sure the teachers are doing their job.

Rockrimmon Elementary is a fantastic school. The teachers are great and the principal really cares. The school is safe and small. The school website offers all the communication and dates, which is good because there are tons of thighs going on at the school on a weekly basis. There are many clubs before and after school, and the IB program offers many opportunities for the children to participate. The PTO offers help for children who need help paying for field trips or needed supplies. As for the parent who complained about the Keurig coffee machine in the teachers lounge, the teacher's pay for their own coffee. If you choose this school, your child will not slip through the cracks because the teachers track the progress of each student on a weekly basis. I have had no problems communicating with my child 's teacher throughout the years at Rockrimmon. my child has had some issues and the teachers, counselor, and principal were very supportive. Rockrimmon is a great school!

I am going to agree with some of the other parents on here. There is a huge lack of communication at this school. The teachers are not telling parents about the things going on at school. I have to call on a weekly basis to ask about test scores. I don't think this is something a parent should have to do. I have spoken with the principal about this, and she doesn't see any problems with her school or teachers. I will also say, there is a lot of paying for supplies at this school,as well. I don't mind helping with my child, but somethings like printer paper, staplers, and red grading pens should be the districts part. Something else I didn't take into account, is the school is Common Core. It seems like the teachers themselves have issues with understanding it themselves, let alone telling my child how to do it. Over all, I don't think we will be back next year. I'm checking into another district.

I am so sorry the previous poster had such a bad experience with the school. It is always discouraging when you don't feel that your kids are getting what they need. Gratefully, we have had an awesome experience at Rockrimmon Elementary! This is our second year at the school and the teachers have gone above and beyond to meet our children's needs. I am amazed at the high level of learning and the deep commitment of the teachers we have met. The principal creates a warm and caring environment and there are many opportunities for extra activates. We love IB and the school seems to avoid letting testing get in the way of learning. They partner with the parents in our kids learning. My kids love going to school each day!

This school is not what it seems. From the outside it looks quaint, but it's a bunch of teachers half butting their way through the day. A principal that doesn't seem to care. I've spent over $500 donating to this school for supplies for my child. Pto keeps hounding everyone for more money. An I've seen a KERIUG coffee machine with a cupboard full of the cups. So much time is spent on hounding the kids about Rise, when maybe the teachers and principal should reacquaint themselves with the meaning!! I've pulled my two girls out and switched to a new school. I will say, I've talked to a good many people and it looks like this school is on a down hill slide. I'm so glad we caught this when we did.

Rockrimmon Elementary has a great sense of community. Being a small school it feels like you are part of a family and not just another parent of some nameless child. We have had some great teachers and we have had one mediocre teacher. I think it all depends on your child and what that child needs. When I have had concerns the administrators have listened and helped resolve them. It appears that there will be some changes in the administration in the next few years and I hope that it does not affect the school negatively.

My son started kindergarten at Rockrimmon last year. We absolutely love this school. The teachers are professional but fun- they really know how to engage the kids. For example, each year the kindergarten class goes on a gingerbread man hunt throughout the school, so that they are familiar with the layout of the building and get to know all the staff. Recently the first grade class dug clay and made homemade bricks as part of a unit on building materials. The varied approach they take to teaching means that all types of learners get what they need. The IB program incorporates RISE behaviors (respect, integrity, safety, and empathy) throughout the curriculum. I like that beyond teaching academics, this school emphasizes being a good human being. The students are motivated to exhibit RISE behaviors through creative rewards, like being allowed to have a class "pajama day" or an extra PE session. The school itself is quite small, and I like that it's tucked away in a residential area. There's no through traffic, and the school really emphasizes safety. There's so much more I want to write but can't due to the space constraints! I would 100% recommend this school.

Here's something I never thought to consider: In their last school, the kids were given UNLIMITED time to complete tests in school. Here, there are 2 days set aside for TIMED tests. Regardless of how much the teachers & administration say that it's NOT timed, BOTH my girls came home almost in hysterics because they were NOT expecting that and missed many questions while they were reeling to figure out what happened & what to do. So, tell me how they are expected NOT to do poorly? In 4 months, my eldest has changed from being excited to going to school to not much caring. They have killed any LOVE or excitement for learning. The TAG teacher is ridiculously strict and the program was even confusing to ME, the parent! Situations where "red flags" should have been thrown up to have me brought in weren't ever done or considered. The teacher is downright horrible & we were promised that she would still be tracked for Middle School TAG. Then a few months later, we got the note that the TAG teacher had been replaced for this semester. I assume that now my daughter is no longer someone that will be "tracked", if they were even going to.

Although Rockrimmon teachers seem to be highly qualified, loving, caring professionals they are functioning at a high stress level. I heard a lot of yelling at students while visiting the school in the afternoon. Leadership seems to focus on cheerleading as opposed to appreciating the commitment and quiet dedication of hardworking and experienced staff members. Due to internal restructuring, teachers are worried about the stability of their positions. Something wacky is going on there! I'm so glad I pulled my child out and moved him to a more stable environment this year!

Excellent elementary school with IB program. Manages to avoid the super stuffy atmosphere of other Rockrimmon elementary area schools while retaining an excellent and well rounded experience for the kids. Not sure why the principal is rated lower by some folks we really feel like Principal Barton is a wonderful administrator and is very approachable.

Rockrimmon is an excellent school with great parental involvement. Our kids have been there since kindergarten and I have tried other schools and we love Rockrimmon. It is smaller than other schools in the area and combined with the welcoming office staff and friendly, smiling teachers, you are given a warm feel from the time you enter the building. They do an amazing "World Tour Day" in May which is outstanding for the kids and the parents are always invited to come volunteer, eat lunch with their kids, or participate in Field Day, assemblies, field trips, and special events. We also love the art and p.e. teachers which are important to our kids since they love sports and being creative.

Rockrimmon Elementary School has been the best decition we have made in our children's education. The small class sizes and outstanding teachers insure they are getting a top quality education in a public school. The kids feel safe and are able to learn through the IB program all they need to know and more. Parental envolvement helps the school excell even more! Great School!! I think the community rating is too low for the quality of the education received at Rockrimmon.

We love Rockrimmon. It is a great school and we are so lucky that our children go to a school where they feel safe, important and cared about by all the staff. There are a few teachers who stand out among the rest, but there is not a teacher there that I wouldn't feel good about my child having.

my kids have been at Rockrimmon since kindergarten, and are near finishing. We have loved the school. I know that when my children get to middle school that they will be prepared, unless they weren't paying attention in class. Teachers are wonderful. The writing program has prepared my kids to move into Middle School ready to go. We looked at many schools, but chose Rockrimmon because of its small classroom size and great community feel and we haven't been disappointed.

This school clearly has issue communicating with parents. They need to comprehend they have a job because they are there to educate our children. Safety is very big issues especially when it comes to dropping a child off at school in the morning. Administration does not communicate well with parents, Principal yawns in IEP meetings and vice president scolds you for reporting incidents. PTA is over zealous and parents are expected to purchase or donate all the time. Politics are liberal & teachers are not supported for being an 'IB' school. .
