Leadership is extremely terrible. Power hungry, rude staff who cares more about clothes than education and student happiness. The communication skills are terrible and uninformative. Too many rules and no grace. I do not recommend your child attending Monument Academy.

We have been at Monument Charter Academy for 14 years. In our experience, the teaching, the staff, the board, and the curriculum have been outstanding. It is a small school and holds to classical education values and high standards. The only rough part really is the carline for the West campus, and that is being worked on by the county.

Our oldest started this school a few weeks ago. The whole time in elementary school he dreaded going to school and was not excited at all about it. This year is has not complained about school once and it's a month into it. We got a call from the administrators worried about an incident toward our kid in school, that we didn't think was an incident at all. They are watching out for safety like a hawk. We have a few apps to check grades and assignments on.
The only thing I could see they should work on is not assuming every kid knows their way around an iPad to start with. We are strict parents and do not let our kids have a lot of devices so when they got the iPad from school they didn't know how to run it. We choice into this school from another district and love that we can.

I have been at this school for 10 years. Yes this school has hard points, but the teachers help the students with their work and help them understand the subject. The homework is mainly for the help for students but its important for their understanding of the topic. The school dose provide character development and also leadership later on. Their way of dealing with bullying its not the best but it is effective.

I'm a student and have been there for years. The school is great and all but I'll tell ups and downs
1. Homework: for elementary it is a little hard at first but students get used to it quickly
2.teachers: their great they care for the students they help students if they are struggling especially in middle school
3. Leadership: good because of trust in the students to do more things by themselves
4.characters: teaches students to respect other students opinions and stopping most of the causes of bullying
5.LD:Good but could be better
6.bullying: it is watched for and is greatly delt with.

I am so glad I moved my 4 kids from the neighborhood school to Monument Academy! The uniforms have actually changed and are not as strict as some reviews have said. Many parents opt their children out state testing so its hard to compare MA to other schools nearby just based on scores. I can tell you my two of the 4 kids went through MAs preschool and are doing great! My kindergarten child is even doing first grade math!

My children have been at MA for two years. The community in the school is very supportive of their teachers and each other. It really feels like a family. We have been so happy with the teachers and their level of involvement in student learning. My children love the curriculum and are fully engaged.

My kids have been at MA for 6 years now. I have always appreciated the personal connection my kids have had with their teachers. My oldest has needed help to stay at grade level expectations and from Kindergarten on her teachers have been very proactive in getting her the individualized help she needs. They have also been excellent at communicating to me what can be done at home to help even more.
This year I am even more pleased with MA, as they have gone above and beyond to make school a safe place where my children can continue to have an in person education

We have been at MA for many years now. Our children have had an outstanding academic experience. The test & performance scores for MA on this website are very inaccurate, due to what information is gathered from a charter school. The academic program here is top notch. Having experience in other schools due to military moves, we can compare & contrast. MA has been the best of the best. Love this school. Love the teachers. So grateful my children have had Monument Academy as a prominent part of their education!

Horrible, the uniform policy is just short of a dictatorship. I have colored out shoe logos with a sharpie to keep administration off my kids back. No logos on socks are you kidding me. Belts for all kids, no personal jackets in school, hoodies removed from the policy for loooking trashy. This school will try your patience everyday.

Do not be scared of by the 'low test scores'. Families have the choice to opt out of taking state standardized tests. Also, as a charter school, our admin (with the full support of parents) has chosen not to follow common core curriculum. Therefore, our curriculum does not match up with the state standardized test. Both the low participation rate and the mismatched sequence lead to misleading test scores. I have every confidence that my 8th grader will be well prepared to enter high school. He had been set up for long term success.
We've had a very positive experience with this school. We have an elementary student and a middle school student. Our kids have loved their teachers. They love small community feel. The admin works really hard to give each family the tools they need to help their student succeed. During COVID 19, the admin have parents more options to help their family be safe and successful than any other school in the area. Parent involvement is very high and highly valued. The classwork is rigorous without being overwhelming.

Middle school students are given a study period each day that allows them to get a head start and get any questions answered while still at school. The homework load has always been appropriate for the class (more challenging for upper level classes, etc.)

Top notch for both academics and character. Our son's have been given breadth to excel in their strengths, and supports when needed in their weaker areas. The students and faculty have embraced their uniquenesses. Character is intentionally developed. Individual needs are valued and respected. We are so grateful we've found this school! (On a side note, our families tend to opt out of state standardized testing, so don't look at those scores as a reflection of the school as a whole. Take a look at our NWEA scores instead!). In elementary, math class is based on ability. The classroom teacher may not be the math teacher. Kids go to a classroom based on the instruction needed: at, below, or above grade level. The GT program is also great!

My son had dyslexia, and my daughter ADD. The school met yearly to go over the 504 plan and how they would do accommodations. I felt that they accomodated both my kids just fine.

I think it is a great school. My kids miss it terribly. The teachers were fun, attentive, and cared about the kids. The teachers "taught" the material. So many schools are passive and do not allow critical thinking-not the case here. NOTE this school was against common core. We did Saxon math and other subjects. Teachers are solid and WANT to teach.

The school used to focus on character. Daily focus on integrity, compassion etc and reward the students when they were caught in the act of showing character. Sadly, this has gotten overlooked by teachers and admin over the years. Thankfully, there are a lot of good kids at the school and parents who are engaged at their children's behavior. Our family has been at MA since 2010 and until the 2017/2018 academic year would have had only positive things to say. The Executive Director, Principal and Deans of Middle School and Elementary have completely changed the direction of the school - authoritarianism comes to mind. Parent input is no longer valued or considered. There is only 10 minutes of recess and 20 minutes of lunch during middle school with NO time to be a kid. Homework assignments are given every day in all core subjects, over the weekends and holidays. A kid cannot be a kid at MA and a parent can have no voice. There is a mandatory "House" system which has failed for two years to be anything but a waste of time...valuable time that could be used towards recess or advisory period for homework. The GOOD NEWS - teachers are outstanding (if they would only coordinate homework load) and the student body and their families are like our family. However, we will only miss "The way it was" before 2017.

My 2 children have/had attended MA since 2010. My son is now in high school at PRHS and I've been amazed at how prepared he has been for his AP, honors and advanced math and sciences classes. In general D38 and MA are moving away from PARCC testing so the high school uses PSAT testing in fall and spring to track growth. My son excelled. I believe his rigorous MA education set him up for success with solid fundamentals and really good study skills. My daughter is in middle school now - having started MA in preschool. We have consistently found caring staff/teachers and she's been in a very very positive learning environment. Although the school has changed Principals in 8 years and built leadership infrastructure into the schools through Dean roles being created, teachers are still the key. They are empowered to cater to the needs of individual students and invest in students. Truly a gem in the Front Range.

We love Monument Academy. We have had two graduate 8th grade and were totally prepared for and excelled at their honors classes at the local public high school. Sadly, a number of these negative reviews come from disgruntled parents who like to "stir the pot". Do your research and don't believe everything you read on the internet. Monument Academy was a fantastic school until changes in leadership began to change the trajectory of the school over the last two years. The result is the loss of seasoned effective teachers and less capable, and in some cases completely unqualified replacements. The administration has completely lost focus of its parent led charter and gone so far as to refuse to meet and insult parents who wish to discuss directional concerns. The school has always focused on character, but the complete lack of character exhibited by administration over the last several months, specifically by the Executive Director, Dr. Griffin, completely undermines whatever they possibly could have accomplished in the area of character development.

They do all of the right "teaching" about character, but the staff and students aren't expected to actually exhibit that character. My child was ostracized for reporting bullying......by his classmates. How does that exhibit strong character? The school did not view this as a character deficiency.

RUN as fast as you can if your child has any learning differences. They refuse to work with parents on alternative plans for helping students. My child was told by the administration that the ADHD medication had no bearing on test scores. I know they actively resist working with outside counselors/doctors. If your child doesn't learn their way, they don't care.

Leadership has a whole needs to have a face lift. They are a school that likes to concentrate on the negative instead of promoting the positive. This school has a DAR system meant as a scare tactic if disciplinary action is needed. Unfortunately, they hand out DARS like candy and supposedly DARS are different for each child that gets one. One may get one that goes on their record and the other child might get 10 that never go on their record. It is ineffective, outdated and inconsistent.

Bullying is an over used term, but MA is not passionate about dealing with it. They give the kid who bullies a DAR and offer no more. They have 2 maybe 3 counselors on staff, yet none have time to follow a bullying situation or offer help/counseling to any of the parties involved.

My children are average and gifted and MA is the right place for us. We love the families that go there. I believe as a whole it is a great school for a child who does not struggle, I do think the leadership especially the Deans need to get some new ideas or some fresh ideas to try and properly handle discipline and some of the other challenges that comes with our student population. I love it for my children, but if my children struggled in anyway, we would not choose MA.

Lack of leadership, strategy, and planning across all middle school grades makes MA a hard school to like. Standout teaching has mostly left and whats left lacks the cohesion of a regular school. Suspect the school is suffering from infighting. IEP seems to be the worst department, leadership is nonexistent.

Go to Pine Creek, DCC, TCA, or any of the other good options in the region.

Bullies and disruptive students rule this school. meetings with admin to address my child's reluctance to attend all excuse-laden, no action. They don't believe suspension or calling kids to the office will reform them. WELL WHAT ABOUT GIVING TEACHERS AND STUDENT VICTIMS A BREAK FROM THEIR DISRUPTIVE PRESENCE?!?! OMG. Some standout teachers, many young teachers who do not know how to control classroom behavior. My son is counting the days until MA is behind us for the summer. Not MA, if you want your child to excel academically and feel part of a team! My child hates the bullying and bickering by other students, the imposed use of tablets, the leadership through fear and intimidation by its Principal, Executive Director and the school Board. Shaming and finger-pointing has been the tactics by which to lead.
It's like big government: large administration, more money needs for administration. Students and parents are secondary. MA parents had to raise $65,000 to provide MA with an adequate multipurpose field! Sports is essential part in a student's college application.
Next: Mill Levy Override (MLO). MA claims D38 has denied MA since 1999 its financial tax distribution. All board members since then know that MA has held a grudge for not being given (speak "entitlement") tax monies. No D38 contract, no MA named on the MLO ballots, No Money! Same tactic this administration has been using since 2009: entitlement, growth of administration body (limited increase of teacher salaries), growth of school without proper planning (location/site growth limitation of school, traffic impact to neighboring communities and road safety.

The Executive Director publicized that the administration wants to raise the classroom size starting with 5th grade "bubble class" for the next school year. The administration has intentionally created this bubble syndrome thus now forcing the board's hand to increase the classroom cap.

Per the Principal "a lot of teachers are feeling that the board made a resolution some time back identifying what we are not [...]". First, the Principal has always forced the curriculum even against teacher recommendations , not the board! Second, the Principal has fired outstanding teachers and replaced them with teachers who she can control. Thirdly, MA's curriculum change is only a competitive approach against D38 schools.

Bottom line, this school is no longer lead by the parents (therefore not a real charter school) as it started out, but rather driven by MA's Principal, Executive Director, some selected personnel, and some parents which have been supporting them.

When you have freshman students in Algebra II, and those students are the top performers (over Junior and Seniors in high school) you have succeeded in giving your students a very solid understanding of math.

My child is currently working on an AHG award, and one of the things she had to do is write letters to two people who had a positive impact on her life. She chose two adults from her last year at Monument Academy - both played a significant part is preparing her for her first year in high school. The math department at MA is outstanding. She is currently in Algebra 2 as a freshman in a class with juniors and seniors. All her fellow MA kids are getting A's, while some of the Jr. and Sr. students are lost. The MA math department went over and above preparing the students for high school math. This school rocks.

Incredibly caring staff, you won't find a better set of teachers. All schools have opportunities, but if education and character are a priority, send your kids to MA!

We have been at Monument Academy a few years but this is our first year in the Middle School program. It has exceeded my expectations in EVERY way. I recall that being such an awful experience for me personally. My child has just thrived. Teachers far more caring and communicative than I expected. Getting insight and feedback has been easy. I especially like the science and math program. The science fair is top notch. Just getting into school sports. The coaches have been great. My child does band and that has been a positive as well. Bravo to administration and staff for creating such a positive learning environment.

BEST SCHOOL EVER! Can't believe what I just read about the preschool and the principal only caring about money. What planet are they from? Caring teachers who love on my daughter and a Principal that communicates with us the parents. My two other children thrive at Monument Academy. I am always surprised that in a preschool which we pay for, people stay to only complain. I am glad I have a chance to share the real news about Monument Academy..a 5-star school!

The administration of this school cares about one thing..money. Our children started at Monument Charter in the preschool program. We tolerated the tiny closet-sized rooms because of the compassionate amazing preschool teachers. Once we got into K, things starting changing. The principal tries to convince all incoming K families they MUST do ALL DAY K because she claims children will fall behind if they only do half-day K. This can't be farther from the truth. Our older children who did 1/2 K at another school are excelling! Principal Richards just wants your money! Half-Day K is FREE. FULL DAY is NOT! The principal has crammed two half-day K classes into 1 classroom just to make the 1/2 program look less appealing. On Fridays, both the AM & PM classes come to school! There is NO room for all these children! It's miserable for everyone! The principal could care less. She's all about quantity...NOT quality. The preschool program is the only thing good at this school! Use their preschool, then get out of there quick!

I just happened to browse through this website. I have my children at MA. I was appalled by the negative comments about our administration. My kids have been at the school for eight years all together. The leadership has never been better. The spirit of our school is so positive, loving, supportive, I could go on..... These parents obviously never took advantage of speaking to anyone. MA is an excellent school. My children who have gone on to high school are more than prepared. They look back on their training at MA with nothing but gratefulness.

My family is very happy at Monument Academy. I know all schools have some unhappy/disgruntled families. Chances are they will not be happy wherever they go. I have two children in the elementary grades and do not have any complaints. My children started at another D20 charter school and when we made the transfer to MA it was life changing. The teachers and staff are all very caring and the environment has a relaxed, safe feel. The curriculum is appropriate and rigorous. They teach the children to think and reason and have open discussions in the classrooms. The homework is very reasonable and allows for after school activities and family time. Monument Academy was the BEST choice for our kids.

Terrific! The staff in this school go above and beyond with their investment in the students. My child, in fourth grade, has had wonderful teachers. They are strong, positive role models. She really looks up to them and responds to them well. Academically, I couldn't want for more. Beyond academics, the teachers that my child has had have been very in tune with the emotional issues of growing up as well. They have made themselves very available to my daughter and myself. The aftercare program in this school system is of the highest caliber. I have always worked with my daughter at home to help her and will continue, as education is much more than just the school she attends. I will say that I could not be more pleased with this school system, from the principal to the maintenance staff.

poor leadership should be investigated for various issues that are ignored by the admin and board principal and board need to go asap Teachers however mostly good school acts as if bullying is ok despite what they may tell you higher up staff calls it "hazing" and yes stealing is apparently ok also god forbid your child brings a lock! also called" hazing" btw 6th 7th and 8th graders routinely abuse 1st 2nd and 3rd graders and staff does nothing principal call say it just kids being kids and joke about it. WHEN A 11 12 OR 13 YEAR OLD HITS SHOVES OR OTHERWISE ASSAULTS A 5 6 OR 7 YEAR OLD THAT BORDERS ON CRIMINAL! homework is a joke for any grade my older child does it in school because it is usually about 10 minutes worth of homework My younger one gets 1 page a week or so. And dont vet me started on the drop off and pickup situation it takes close to 2 hours each an everyday and fridays are even more fun oh and the tardys and detention they give when a kid is late because of the zoo outside that end up on your kids permanent record. this school is a waste of tax dollars as long as the current admin and board are in place my kids will not attend next year.

I'm not the biggest fan of Monument Academy. My daughter was bullied through out elementary school and nobody did anything about it. My daughter was to the point where she needed to be put In therapy because of it. Middle school has been better with the bullying but now the issue is theft. She's constantly getting stuff taken out of her locker. I can't stand the principal. She's very scripted, and doesn't seem to actually care. The line in the morning is the worst of all. They have no clue what they are doing outside. All that money they get, why can't they get a bus? I can go on and on about that school, but I don't think there's enough space. I won't be putting my kids back into MA

Once again, the scores are in and Monument Academy outperformed the other middle school in District 38. Additionally, MA middle school was ranked the highest in middle school math scores for both district 38 and district 20. Way to go, MA! Always knew you had the best and brightest teachers who go the extra mile for your students!

What an awesome school! From carpool to front desk to teaching staff the school takes great care of all students. Having experienced car pool at different schools, yes it is hectic but that is the nature of the beast. The car pool staff and volunteers take great care in operation and even assist students in and out of cars. We consider MA part of our family!!

I took my children for their first day of school on 08/20/2014 and got to experience the nightmare of carpool drop-off and pickup. I never seen a more disorganized operation in my entire life, no one seemed to be in charge and there was no one present to deal with non-compliant parents. What are you people doing (administrators)? How am I suppose to trust you with the safety of my children, let alone with their education? My Daughter has been in Classical education her entire scholastic career. We moved and of course decided on this school. First the positives. She has had some wonderful teachers. Now the negatives. I watched as my daughter was bullied in school, made fun of by fellow students, Got in trouble for posting a complaint that a fellow student was posting rumors about her. She was verbally reprimanded by the Admin. Admin did not address the issue at all. Her grades have slipped. I have watched a girl that was excited about going to school change to one that tolerated school. It is not academically rigorous here at all. She came from a Classical school in Colorado Springs in which 4 hours of homework was the norm. Here we had 15 mins if that. She was not challenged here. The students here do not reflect the Character that I have personally seen in other Classical school. One of the other reviewers stated there is an elitist mentality at this school and I cant find a better description. Our daughter will not be returning. Have nothing to gain just wish I knew before we wasted 2 years here.

We just finished the best year ever at MA! The middle school is the strongest it has been with full program offerings and super strong teachers in every class. As a parent, I couldn't be happier with my child's education. I can't believe the quality we get and it is public education.

MA is a great school, we have never had any problem with teachers, coaches, admin, etc. Two of our children are in high school now after graduating from MA and are at the top of their classes taking advanced courses. I credit that to the academic base they got from MA. MA is not perfect, no school is. But they offer the strongest middle school academics in the area (this is confirmed by the state testing scores). Also, there is a diversity of opinion that is promoted by the teachers and accepted by them. As for activities, they have tremendous drama, band, and debate programs, as well as very good cross country, track, and soccer programs.

Monument Academy is a gem in this area. My two children are not neurotypical and the special education department has smart and caring people. I was pleasantly surprised since our previous public school experiences in Seattle were abysmal, including the teacher insulting my son to his face. I'm an east coast liberal, born and bred, so the conservative, white, overwhelmingly Christian atmosphere of the school is a little hard on me at times. Still, they treat all the children well, being that differences of opinion and creativity not of the mold are encouraged. Very impressed. We may be moving soon for work and we sill sorely miss this school.

As a new parent to this school - after a semester under our belt, this is by far the best middle school in a 30 mile radius. (And we, as a large family, have experience with several in the 30 mile radius, public, private and charter) Teachers are caring, involved and helpful. They obviously want each child to succeed. If you are looking for a school, check this one out. Beware of negative reviews that are over three years old - to me, it is obviously a very different school than the one that was recently reviewed by a parent whose children attended over four years ago. This school is academically challenging, does require lots of homework, and prepares the middle school student for the rigors of high school. We could not be happier with this school and it's very dedicated teachers.

Monument Academy is an AMAZING school.The teachers and staff are connected to the students. A genuine desire to guide students towards academic achievement but develop as members of their community is ever-present. I have experienced several schools in the area and have yet to see a level of whole student learning like what MA provides. I am an older sister of students at MA. I am responding to the parent whose students no longer attend this school and who said that "Flood's of families are leaving, and MA failed to make head count again" I despise people who make such statements without data to back up their claims. From what I can readily look up and find out from the Colorado Board of education is that 858 students attended MA in 2011. In 2012 the number increased to 970. That is a far cry from the "flood of families" leaving MA. If I am doing my math correctly that is an increase in student body, not a decrease. As the numbers for the 2013 year have not been published, at least not where I can find them, I have no idea what the new enrollment numbers are. A woman from my church who works there said it was flat. (Again, a far cry from the "flood of families" leaving the school) It could be flat because the school is at capacity. Since I don't know, I will not make that claim. I like my facts backed up with data, not with wishful thinking. My sibling loves this school, doing okay academically. A little bit of struggles with the amount of homework - but that's life.

This school is amazing! It has great teachers who support your children and will set them up for success! I have been a former student of this school and can trace my favorite and best memories to this particular school. I went to this school when it was also a high school for a time; however, they shut down the high school which forced me to go to a different high school. I went three different high schools because of this and I can say without a doubt that Monument Academy was the best experience and nothing compares to how they teach the kids. The teachers are focused and want children to do their very best and they help them along the way.

This school started in a rental building originally built to be a recreational facility. Throughout the years, it has grown beyond what I could have imagined. It has a brand new building, new teachers, and more students. The curriculum has always been more advanced than that of a regular public school both before and after its growth. I wish it had school buses.

Monument academy is a great school. we have had several children attend middle school at Monument Academy. One of our now adult children indicated to us later after graduation that Monument Academy saved her. She was much happier and learned so much. Currently, we have another child that for the last two years has wanted to not miss school. This is such a switch from trying to find excuses to miss school previously within the public system. The classroom sizes are small and our child has been able to have a greater learning opportunity with teachers actually knowing all their students at a more personable level and to be able to provide better learning support!

This is a great school. The teachers are very caring, the classroom size small. As my child has a disability, small classroom sizes are a must. The staff is very accommodating, and willing to work with my child. The alternate public school in this district has 800 7/8 graders - too many for my child to handle. I compared test scores between the two middle schools to see which was better academically. The MA 7th grade scores are better in 2/3 categories, the MA 8th grade scores are better in 3/4 academically. Enough said. Reading over both the negative and positive reviews, the negative reviews sound a lot like parents who are disappointed that their favorite person left (You see his name over and over again) One person does not make a school good or bad, look to the teachers. I have only found dedicated and caring teachers at this school, and because of the smaller class room sizes, the excellent teaching staff, and the academic environment, I would recommend this school over the other public school in this district.

My daughter is now in her fifth year at MA and she's had phenomenal teachers. I also have a great respect and admiration for the instructors and administrators. In light of this, I find the negative, small-minded comments in these reviews very disturbing. The reader should not characterize the school or its staff based on the unsavory nature of these negative opinions. From what I've observed, they spring from a cabal of ultra-conservative, hyper-religious and largely dysfunctional parents who feel so entitled that there is nothing that any school could do to meet their unrealistic and self-serving demands. This group is basically a lost cause, and their pettiness, rage and immature opinions should not be taken seriously. If they could put their arrogance aside for awhile, they might realize what a great school Monument Academy is and show a little more support and appreciation.

Unfortunately, this school has become an example of how charter schools can do wrong. Without oversight from the district, a principal that is a dictator, a board that is either clueless or apathetic, and teachers who work in an environment of intimidation, this is a poorly run school. MA used to differentiate themselves with class sizes and course offerings, but now the only thing that is of distinction is that they wear uniforms. D38 is too good of a district to waste time at this school.

We have attended MA for 5 yrs. It is sad to see the changes taking place. We LOVED MA! MA advertises small class sizes, but the last few years they have increased. Kindi Classes up from 12 to 18 ES sizes up from 19 to 22-24. Good teachers are leaving at a disturbing rate! I agree with the others that comment that the board and Principal only give lip service! They will tell you what you want to hear and make promises that they never follow through with. It is a great school unless you have a problem. If you have a problem, GOOD LUCK! Parent communication is horrible! How they handle situations is disturbing & made me fear for my child's safety. Students and teachers are not getting the support they need. The principal blames teachers when things go wrong. Don't expect to get any support if you need it. Even if you try to work with Administration or the board it doesn't make a difference! We tried! Spent countless hours trying to make a positive change. Their focus is not on students' safety & education or supporting the teachers. Those that still love MA obviously haven't had a problem arise yet. MA need a new Principal, Vice Principal and board.

Monument Academy is not a top rated school anymore. Kids suffer because of need to enroll as many students as possible for the money. My child had a class rooom with no windows. My other child had a room the size of a kitchen. The principle does not love the children. I have spoken to her and she gives lip service only. The princple runs off all the good teachers. The principle openly is deceitful with parents. It makes me ill to watch this school go from great to bad.

Monument Academy is a toxic environment. We have been at Monument Academy for 6 years. We have watched it go downhill in the last three years. The teachers fear the principle. If the principle does not agree with a teacher she forces them out. Parents fear retaliation if they complain to the board. The teachers often are not qualified to teach. With 19 total years of experience at Monument Academy, I have to believe that this site is simply for disgruntled parents to vent! Sure, some years are better than others, and some teachers are better than others. Overall, Monument Academy has provided my children with an excellent education in a safe, secure environment by qualified teachers who truly care about them. After careful consideration we have decided to leave MA. While we have been impressed with our MA teachers, the school has failed to meet our SPED needs. Furthermore, even though the administration purports to welcome input from the parental community it is only interested in positive feedback. The principal is not open to constructive criticism, improvement suggestions, or discussion of specific issues. She reacts defensively to anything she deems to be a complaint. MA has some serious student safety issues which parents are not at liberty to discuss. Even though the school continues to justify the ongoing staff turnover rates as normal, it is not a stable environment. Other schools within the district do not have constant churn like MA. Low teacher morale, ongoing staff turnover, dictatorial administrators, insufficient SPED and an upset parental community all of which embody the new MA mark the decline of a once wonderful school . MA is more interested in cost savings than meeting SPED educational needs which makes MA difficult to work with. Thankfully another LP school is eagerly happy to meet our SPED needs. After years of dealing with MA the new school is refreshing.

MA is going down the tubes and the sooner parents get involved, the sooner things will get fixed with the administration and board. Despite the good work of the many great teachers, the administration is ruining the school by driving away good teachers. It is laughable the things that parents complain about concerning Monument Academy. As I don't have middle schoolers, I cannot comment on those concerns, and I did not know the previous principal. But what I have observed is that my children have thrived at MA, and I have had two other school experiencences (of which were both very decent schools) but Monument Academy is still so much superior in comparison . My children's teachers have been excellent so far, and the curriculum is what you make of it at home as well, whether you think it is too challenging or not enough, you modify it to your child's individual needs. I'd like to know what kind of better thing parents think they are going to get for their children by pulling them out because "they don't like what is going on in the administration." How about just be grateful that you you even have this option to give a dcecnt education to your children in your own community?. If you don't like it , good luck trying to find something better, or deal with the carpool, administration problems, and module complications at TCA. It's not any better there.

MA endorses sending our 6th grade students to the 100 Elk camp. This camp is run by the Christian Science religion. The strategic plan for the organization states that 100 Elk is used to generate profit for the operation of Christian Science. When questioned, our executive director stated that we "just rent the facility and provide our own program at 100 Elk." That is completely incorrect! The Christian Science counselors led our children through THEIR program. For someone who graduated from fancy leadership courses, our executive director does not even know what is happening with his most important asset - his students. What a joke.

We allowed our child to make the choice to leave MA for another school. The curriculum, particularly the electives is falling apart with no focus or syllabus. Teachers miss days without any plan for the substitute and the kids are left with nothing to do but study hall. Now we've heard basketball is not going to happen due to the overcrowding in the gym from the band. I agree with the previous post, this school is going down hill with nothing special left to offer and no accountability by the administration.

These problems are familiar to our family. The principal and executive director have been hostile to any objection to their views for a long while now and we've seen several talented and compassionate staff members leave, including an amazing veteran kindergarten teacher who apparently retired early rather than continue to deal with the autocratic and erratic principal. The school is nothing like it once was. It's a whole lot worse.

I am shocked to see such negativity about MA. I am aware of the continually circulating rumors as well as the daily concerns faced by parents, students and teachers alike. My children are in 1st and 4th grade and the bottom line is, we could not be happier with the education they are getting. Both have phenomenal teachers, with small class sizes compared to district standards. It is my understanding that the majority of the complaints are stemming from middle school parents, of which I cannot weigh in on. That being said, be cautious with your threats... The grass is NOT always greener on the other side. We have numerous friends with children in other district schools (and D 20) whose complaints make yours pale in comparison! That being said, if you are truly miserable at MA, I hope you explore your options wisely and find a good fit for your family. As for children being asked to clean up their campus... God forbid our children take pride and responsibility in their school. Didn't realize our little darlings were above taking part in keeping their school from looking run down and unkept!

I am very happy with the experiences my children are having with MA. Not only do we have fantastic teachers, contrary to rumors the class sizes have not changed and remain smaller than the average D 38 school. Too often people use sites like this to complain. The staff and administration have been wonderful, particularly to those of us whose children have an IEP. I'm not huge on test scores but for those who like using them for validation you will notice MA students well above average compared to others.

I agree with the 5-star reviewer that the teachers and staff are the best we've ever had experience with. They truly are dedicated to our children. Parents are not happy with the overcrowding of our once small class size school. It's sad that the principal is focusing on numbers (for per pupil revenue) and not on the quality of education which our school was founded on. Small class size is why our family joined this school. Since the former principal's retirement, the school has grown way too fast and has gone downhill. And how much will these portables cost our struggling school? We are very disillusioned. and saddened with the direction the school is going.

My wife and I are very disappointed in the direction in which the school is going. We have weathered the transition from the former principal to the current principal and it has definitely taken a turn for the worse in the last couple years. Class sizes are increasing, middle school classes this year are very high. That is a concern as there is no room for the middle school. The portables that have been put up are not in the right place so they are unusable at this point. Our poor gym, band, and choir teachers have to share the gym and cafeteria. It's very distressing and the kids don't like it either. While our principal says she is doing things in the best interest of the students, her actions speak very differently. We will go to the school district and our board with this and hopefully they will listen.

The staff of Monument Academy is wonderful! Their love of educating their students goes beyond the classroom. The academics are a proven curriculum which challenges students. The size of the school and demand in the area speak volumes of the positive points of the school. Our family loves this school and always recommends it when asked. We have praised the small class sizes and high quality teachers/staff. We (our board) made a poor decision when the current principal was hired. She is not qualified, she was twice let go from previous positions, and she is changing what Monument Academy's mission has been. The middle school is to "capacity" but the facility itself could hardly house those poor sardine packed students last year. I'm very disappointed with how the school has been run these past few years. We parents need to send e-mails to the board with our disappointments and show up at meetings. And what does the highly paid executive director do, and how was he hired when he has no education background whatsoever? Scary use of valuable education funds. And don't get me started with the library rennovation.

Love, love, love this school. I am not impressed one bit by the "very attractive" modulars that the school bought with out knowing they would not fit and ultimately be a hazard to our children. I wonder if the District 38 knows about this--one more thing for them to be upset with us about. Doesn't the school have to answer to the nice folks who lent us money to build our school? I can't imagine they would think this was a wise use of money. I am glad that my children are not old enough to participate in band as I would not want them having to walk outside of the very secure school building to get to their classroom. Did we really need to grow so quickly without knowing where we would put the children? I am not happy with the rapid growth. It was my understanding that small class size was a big benefit for my children to attend this school. While I thought the new school building was great 3 years ago, I almost prefer the small-ness of the old facility. Needless to say, our family is very disappointed at the way things are being run these past two years. We'll give it a few weeks and pull our kids before that all important "count day" if we see fit.

Academically Monument Academy is a great school but is plagued with often unnecessary controversy. For example, to my disbelief, Mrs. DeMarco was fired at the end of school. I have known her the more than five years that she has been at Monument Academy. At a time, when deranged individuals walk into schools and commit violent acts, it was reassuring that someone like Mrs DeMarco -- who can handle ANY situation -- was at the "front gate." And what do they do to reward her? They fire her! Board wake up!

My children have enjoyed their past 3 years at the school. However in the past 2 years we have noticed changes that we do not see as positive. It seems to be turning into a dictatorship rather than a team approach. Seems they are more concerned about the kids having a belt on than discipline. We, as parents, are not happy with the direction the school is heading. Myself and several parents believe that a change in principle is the first step in changing this direction. My daughter wants to stay through 8th grade but I'm not sure if we will keep her there if things continue in this direction.

Core virtues are a main reason my children attend this school. It is imperative that it is modeled from the top down. It doesn't appear that core virtues were used regarding a recent personnel change. Makes me also question decision-making at the school (like the previous reviewer). Guess my opinion here is a result of having been involved with this school for a long time and recent changes in the past couple years are unsettling.

Couldn't be happier with our first year experience at MA. We struggled with the decision of private vs home vs charter vs public school for our boys. After hours of conversations regarding the pros and cons of each we decided to give MA a try, primarily due to numerous recommendations from friends, and walked away from year one thrilled with the institution. The bar is set high, but encouragement, structure and tools are provided to the children to meet the standard. Our boys went from dreading school to loving the day-to-day challenge. Parental involvement is welcomed and parents are kept informed of progress, struggles and accomplishments. Looking forward to many more years at MA.

Yes. This is a great school, no doubt about it IMHO. We've had our kids there since Kindergarten. It's had a few problems associated with growth, but the D-38 folks that have sent there kids to MA have really driven the MA population up (to the consternation of D-38 itself). I'm not sure that they're terribly happy with MA, but MA is nice enough to bring up the district wide CSAP scores. I think that D-38 is biting their toungue about the relative success of MA. To bad D-38 tried to throw roadblocks in front of MA during its growth. Now the rest of the district seems to be playing "Catchup" with limited academic success. In D-38, MA is the best if you want your kids provided with a academically rigorous education. Jobs are definitely a good thing to have based on a superior education. They can send money home when you retire! :-)

Absolutely a God send. Our son had always attended a private school and upon our arrival in the Springs.........we were refered to MA and it was the answer to our prayers. Our child worked hard and the teachers cared about his progress and communicated. Thank you MA for 2 & 1/2 years of a great exprerience.
