Now, let me be clear, there are far worse high schools out there than Widefield High. But, having graduated from it last year, I very much get the sense that somewhere around 80% of the budget is put into sports. Most of the other departments, except perhaps the music department, appear to operate on a shoestring. This includes building maintenance, as many of the school's hallways and rooms appear as if they haven't been renovated in a long time. The school was built in 1958, after all.
There was seemingly a socioeconomic divide between those who lived out east (in nicer neighborhoods) and those who lived closer to Widefield proper; with those living out east tending to have nicer clothes, accessories, and cars. There were almost certainly a number of fights and a fair amount of bullying going on, but I can't speak for certain because I was quite the social shut-in during my time there. Despite being in at least one Honors/AP class for most of my four years, I never really felt like I was getting a good education, either. I didn't personally think the curriculum in most classes was that challenging intellectually, though my grades sometimes tended to suffer anyways from poor executive function (arguably one could say that's a me problem). Much of what I know intellectually came from things I learned on my own time from my own research.
The staff/teachers could be described as a mixed bag. Some were outright cruel; while others were very nice and supportive, even when I was letting my inner demons control me, academically speaking. Others could be pretty apathetic either way. There were almost certainly some that were there just for the paycheck, I'm sure.
So, on the whole, probably just a pretty 'average' high school. I don't think I would settle for 'average' if I had the option to choose something better, obviously. But, well, living firmly in the middle of Widefield the community, I really didn't, and neither did many of my other pupils. There *are* other high schools in D3, obviously, but most of them are going to be of roughly the same quality as this Widefield, even if they're in a different district. When I was on the school robotics team, the first year we got to go to a much nicer school in Denver for the competition, and I was almost blown away by what even a public high school could be for those with means. But not everyone has access to such schools. I certainly didn't, and I can't really blame the school itself for that.

I’m a Widefield graduate. This school serves many lower middle class families and students who have severe family issues. The staff teachers and administrations are phenomenal,

I am now highly successful and much of that is because of the caring teachers and staff at Widefield. These folks work hard to serve students who have life challenges other schools don’t have to worry about

Great after school programs for all ages.

I would not go to this school. Dress code is way too much and teachers barely teach. The school always smells musty. Phones aren't allowed not even to contact parents. In my personal experience this school is a 1 out of 10.

I honestly believe the rating for Widefield High School should be given so much more credit than what's given. The school staff go above and beyond to accommodate Special needs students and other students who require special attention. Although I'm horrible with names I can tell you that there are a few staff members who really meant a lot such the Dean and Secretary because they show they care about all of the students well-being that attend Widefield High. My son is new to this school and even though it's the beginning of the school year, he's like a new family member. Like I said in the beginning, this school needs way more credit than what's shown on line.

I think this school is a complete waste of your time because like I had to get pulled out of school from the bullying which nothing was done about and the teachers do nothing just like Watson. The principal didn’t say anything about me leaving the school after the attempt i made to kill myself until i was already online. Like it’s really just a joke at the school

Worst school ever! I tell everyone I know how ashamed I am as a parent to have my kid there. I cant wait to move so we can start a better school that cares about education for our kids.

My son is never given make up work when he misses. The staff and teachers dont care about equal education to all kids. Unnacceptable!

Before I begin this post,, WHS students are the most loving and kind students I have ever met. The problem is not the kids; it is the system.. The worst school I have ever seen. Aside from the hard working VP in charge of curriculum who faces daily roadblocks from an unwilling staff, the staff cares more about discipline rather than instruction. There are no resources and the curriculum is outdated and follows a very scripted format that does not leave room for creativity or progress. The staff is there just to get a paycheck and they are more concerned with having control rather than student learning. The school is safe, but kids spend more time in ISD rather than in class. It is a true testament to what doesn't work. They have no idea about standards and achievement and spend more time admonishing kids who could have a chance rather than building them up. every day began with a loud announcement from the AP about behavior and none was spent about what kids could do. The day ends with the same. Only what they couldn't do. I was a staff member and was broken hearted by the number of kids who could, but didn't know it because they were always told what they couldn't do. I spent my long career trying to help all kids and this school helps very few. I just happened to be there for a year because of relocation. This school was one of nightmares. They have no idea what good is and the kids think this is the norm. Staff blames the community rather than being the catalyst for change. There is no rhyme or reason to why they do things when it comes to achievement, but they sure have discipline down. The number of minority students who spend time in ISD would be alarming to anyone. Their idea of help means teaching kids to shut up and comply. But they don't teach how to think, have goals and see beyond where they are. So sad.

Widefield High School is an old building and is in need of serious renovation ASAP. The halls are overcrowded and the cafeteria is quite small, and the student to teacher ratio is ridiculous high! Some of its staff is dedicated in area they teach, while others don't have a clue how to even manage or structure their classrooms! The influx of students from outside boundary has also caused major problems in student behavior, not to mention student population itself. Out of boundary lists should be eliminated completely or at least limited to a few. Graduation is always a real bummer since everyone is corralled into its gymnasium, a major fire hazard and safety concern!!

I've had 3 kids attend WHS. We had to move & the oldest graduated in another state. She was learning material at that new high school that she had learned in Jr. High in WSD3 @ Webster Elementary. In college her professor asked where she had graduated. He said he was SURE she wasn't a product of the local schools because her language arts & composition skills were far superior to all of his other students who were. I told him we had the option to move back to this area & he urged me to do so for the sake of our other 2 children. We did move - right back into WSD3 & have not regretedit. Our other 2 kids graduated from WHS & received fine educations. They not only learned the three R's but how to deal with life and respect themselves. My first grandchild will be attending WHS and we are looking forward to the same fine results. I have always been impressed with the counseling staff & the extra curricular activities made available to the kids, especially the athletics department at WHS. I think the disciplinary situation throughout WSD3 is execellent, no tolerance for fools makes for a better learning environment. Get involved & your experience will be a positive one.

Widefield is good for any student without challenges or one who does not need any disciplinary action, however, if you have a student who needs an IEP or other related needs I WOULD NOT go here. The only reason I attend Widefield is because it has the LARGEST orchestra in the State and it is convenient. Besides music, I would go somewhere else. Find a school willing to make accomodations, not one that skates kids by to say that they did.

I guess ut us a ok school. Its just that people like to discriminate a lot there. Teahcers are ok And athlectics are ok...the only problem is that if you dont have the nice jeans nice hair or perfect body no one is really going to like as much. yeah you may be known but you wont fit they're standards
