In my experience as a student dont send your kid here send the to Manitou or merit literally anything else the school has no resources and then the management and admin never know what there doing and then it stresses the teachers out which then gets taken out on the kids. There are great teachers that get pushed to the edge. Sometimes there are also some horrible teachers because they hire literally anybody they came because all their staff gets either fired or leaves. Please stay away from this school.

I truly believe WPHS is an excellent school. My 2 students are happy and thriving here and the staff is incredible. They are bringing in new academic options that we are excited to see come to life (JROTC). With a new school board I know the district will continue to excel. I'm excited for my students to be WPHS graduates!

My experience at this school in specific has been very challenging and mentally exhausting. Instead of feeling supported, I often feel isolated and unwelcome. The environment has taken a significant toll on my mental health, making it hard to focus and stay motivated. I hope the school can work on creating a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all students. coming from a senior who is currently enrolled here. The school feels more like a business focused on making money rather than a place that genuinely cares about students' well-being.

We had 4 years under an extreme school board which forced through changes creating a negative environment and culture. However, the new board is doing everything they can to make positive changes and it is felt by both staff and community. We are seeing new initiatives to increase opportunity for students. Our competitive clubs (cooking, science, environment, etc) are making fantastic showings within the state. Our SAT scores are competitive. And the school is working to bring in more grant funding to continue expanding. The community loves our schools and is a great place to live.

This school was an amazing place to be, until about two years ago when the new school board came in and changed just about everything with their contentious policies. Now the middle school is combined with the high school, and a majority of the students hate the school they go to. In 4 years I watched WPHS go from an amazing, accepting place to go to school, and now its quite the opposite.

the school used to be great but then was fallen victim to poor leadership. the halls were covered in beautiful murals and art. kids were allowed to express themselves and cared about learning. then a new school board took over and everyone suffered. teachers, students, everyone.

Some of the teachers are amazing people who love their jobs, and it shows. The real problem lies with the administration and management. Many of the higher ups make the students feel like they are just a statistic. As a recent graduate, I know first hand what this is like. Students who achieve high standardized test scores are treasured and treated with much more respect than those who dont perform as well on standardized tests. The schools only goal is for students to outperform on standardized tests, such as the SAT. This by itself isnt a bad goal, but no real learning is taking place. Its only prep for the final exam to make the school seem good on paper.

As a woodland park high school student, I would hundred percent say that this is a fantastic school. It is constantly improving and changing for the better, even now that we have complications concerning the school board. The community has come together as I have never seen. The sense of support and general good character from everyone. The ideology at this school is that education is important, and that is a major understatement. I feel like every school has something that they could fix, and for this school, I would say that they could be less independent of technology(being a mountain town). At times I feel sucked into the chrome book screen. But the education I'm receiving is amazing. Thank you woodland park high.

The school is constantly evolving, We have found that our children are selling more than ever. There is always student help when needed. There is a sense of community within the school. We feel they have really come along way over the past few years.

WP HS is getting worse every year. Teachers are the lowest paid in the state and we're getting what we pay for, but the school board and the school leadership are worse. They've instituted a ridiculous new grading system that the teachers hate and don't understand, the students hate and don't understand, the parents hate and don't understand, and the principal continues to push in an obstinate, rude manner. The teachers are demoralized and unmotivated, half of them solely rely on the internet to teach their students, kids don't even know what grade they're getting half the time. Oh, and they just hired a new superintendent...because the previous got fired for getting a DUI. It's a mess, and the school board keeps protecting and defending the school.

The scores tell you everything you need to know about this school, and that is the fact that the teaching is inadequate. Many parents are desperately trying to place their students in schools outside of Woodland Park.

Individual academic plans are made by the school which is state mandated, but the school doesnt check up on the progress and enforce the agreements. Teachers seem to shy away from compliance out of convinience

Negative. This school is not good. If it is your only option, a kid can get an alright education, but they have to get it on their own. Buy books. Learn how to use the internet. The school wont teach you what you need to succeed. Every thing learned comes after a battle against the school. The leadership is horrible. The good teachers are becoming harder to find. I am a high schooler that went to this school and i am SWITCHING SCHOOLS. The teachers at this school do not care or put any effort into helping the students. 3 teachers off the top of my head take 2-3 WEEKS to grade one test and put it in the grade book. The teachers yell at the students for having a bad grade but then show NO effort to help the students. Another thing is the dress code at this school, is very corrupt. In the same day three students could be wearing the exact same shirt but one of them will get dress coded and have their parents drive to bring them a shirt. It is ridiculous! There was one day that a certain teacher dress coded me when there was only an hour and 1/2 left of school!! Another reason why i am leaving this school is because of how DIRTY this school is. I wore flip flops one day and there was so much dust on the floor that the dust came on my feet and made them a different color. Their floors look like they havn't been vacuumed in weeks!! And they look like that 24/7! This school is very very dirty and its disgusting! Another reason why i rates this school terrible is because the food, ive had SEVERAL incidents with pulling hair out of my food! I have no clue how this school passed inspection with how the school is cleaned and also how the food is served here. Another thing that i have to mention is, if your coming here for SPORTS...this is NOT THE PLACE. This school is a joke with their sports!!! And i mean joke!!! On this website (greatschools) they are rated a D and i can completly see that being here in the school! If you are thinking about putting your kids in Woodland Park school districts...ID ADVISE YOU NOT TO. This is NOT the place for any kids/young teens to be at!!!

I've had two sons go through WPHS. The first is a senior this year and has been accepted to 5 prestigious colleges and he performed very well in standardized tests. The school culture is awesome. The kids truly support each other.

The school does not promote success. The culture is that it's alright to be mediocre and that philosophy is instilled in the students. Extra curricular activities such as music, arts and sports is sub par as the record indicates. Woodland Park has a high teacher turnover rate and the few good teachers that stay are over shadowed by an inept administration that operates in the dark ages. Woodland Parks ACT and SAT scores rate poorly and the lack of honors and limited AP courses make it very hard to achieve success at the collegiate level.

High drug use including heroine is also a major problem and many families drive there kids to other districts and home school. We had no idea that a Woodland Park education would eradicate our child to a mediocre existence, a future drastically altered forever. Don't make the same mistake. With shrinking enrollment and funding Woodland Park school district is one to avoid at all costs.

From the eyes of a parent, or from the first few days of a student, this school appears to be a great place. However, I, as a student for over, have seen it's truly corrupt system. Most teachers really have no idea what subject they're teaching. They have no communication skills or knowledge of the problems a student may be facing. They don't care to know. As a poor school, sports are over-funded while programs that teach real skills and actually help you, struggle to keep participating in all events. And then there's the fact that the few teachers that will take time to help there students and actually care are "let go" because of their students test scores. These are below average students! Struggling students who take "lower" classes because they have to or don't have the motivation to do better. These are students with learning disabilities! IT'S NOT THE TEACHER'S FAULT! But when an honors student barely passes because a teacher isn't doing their job properly, when they have to "push" a student's grade up a bit, there's no problem. Oh, and anyone who doesn't necessarily "fit in" is looked down upon and pushed around BY THE ADMINISTRATION. Because we can't do anything about it.

Woodland Park High School is a bureaucratic nightmare. One might be careful to note that the majority of positive reviews have been left by parents, who have no idea what it's like to actually attend classes there. The majority of the teachers working there are either improperly qualified for the job or negligent. Almost all of the good teachers were let go at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. This school needs to completely reevaluate its procedures. Morale is abysmal because of constant administrative failure. I often fantasized about posting a manifesto on the office windows. Seriously, it's that bad. While academic activities are available, they are completely undervalued in juxtaposition to sports. It's as though throwing a ball makes you three times as significant as any other student. I am glad to have graduated this year. The community is nice, the facilities are nice, but this school is an embarrassment. If I were choosing a school for my kids, it wouldn't be this one.

As a former student, I agree with those who say that the whole school administration needs a complete overhaul. Pricipal is a puppet for them. The number of kids that have been expelled (with due cause) are accepted back but have been "black listed" by the staff as a "trouble child". Laugh but its true. For parents thinking of sending their child to this high school, think again. Find a way to send them to Manitou or private schooling. They will be so greatful you did this for them.
