It's a great school! The teachers are funny and the counselors, administrators and head of the school are easy to talk with. From the reviews I've seen from a few years ago, the teachers were bad from what I'm guessing. But in 2026, it's gotten better and the students are nice. Even if some students are rude, always ignore them and talk to someone! I also have some teachers that let me vent freely without judging and ofc the school is safe plus gives punishments to students if you speak up. I really love this school and recommend it. But the con is that it's expensive at 12k per year but there are multiple ways to pay that and a financial support option!

St. Mary's is an awesome private Catholic high school that provides a traditional and rigorous education. Because the school is small, staff and teachers are able to focus on the students, which should always be the top priority. Faculty are quick to respond to questions and concerns. I'm a public school teacher and we chose to send our kiddos here specifically for the school community and college focus.

Wonderful experience with the school. Academic excellence. My son just received a full-ride scholarship to college with the help of his college counselor. The school really goes out of its way to support students in need of tuition assistance. A wonderful and supportive faculty and administration. The school environment is everything you want for your children.

Terrible school. The administration demonstrates lack of integrity, accountability, or geniune regard for the needs and lives of the families and students. Many teachers and the school counselor left last year, only 19 enrolled as freshman this year, many students in upper classes are leaving and going to public schools, and the current president is also leaving this year. Try to file a grievance, the school will not follow its own grievance procedures but rubberstamp harmful and dishonest conduct of the principal. Try to appeal to the Board and they ignore/dismiss you, The principal openly states she can discriminate against disabled pupils and shows lack of regard for their needs. She will dismiss parental concerns and even medical advice. The Board has been aware of the problems but seems they choose to sweep them under the rug.

A few years ago, St. Mary's High School kept up to its high standards. The education was extraordinary, the administration/leadership was decent, and the overall community felt positive and welcoming. The same cannot be said for the current state of the school.

Although the teachers still do a good job at educating students and providing help to students, the quality of education has decreased. Many teachers left during the year of COVID, and now, more are considering leaving. The school blames it mainly on retirement and COVID, yet they are not the only factors that contribute to the uncertainty given when a teacher leaves. The main issue lies in management. The administration has failed and continues to fail to lead this school to a better future. There is too much uncertainty and confusion that circles around the administration, and once ideas need to be fixed/carried out, nobody knows who is going to do it or what is going on. Students are lied to, teachers are lied to, and teachers are blamed. The school, in one year alone, has fired two teachers. Staff members have also left during the year, and so have MANY students. More are considering transferring schools next year.

Looking back, St. Mary's had a fun, welcoming, and exciting atmosphere. This has changed in recent years. During the shadow days, while I attended grade school, the overall atmosphere made me less nervous for high school and excited to come. Now, all of the students and teachers seem stressed, as if they would take the first chance they could get to leave. The senior class has roughly 60 students, yet the freshman class has only roughly 35 students. These numbers seem alright until compared to the numbers shown just a few years ago. Websites feature that the tuition is only 9,500 dollars-10,200 dollars. The baseline tuition for the 2022-2023 school year has raised to 11,900 (before financial aid). This is most likely due to the lack of enrollment the school is facing.

Credit must also be given to the positives. 95% of the teachers make students feel safe and comfortable in their classrooms. The lunches have improved, and this year are $5 a meal. The events and sports games are still fun and enjoyable. The sports at the school provide a sense of community, and there is a decent variety.

St. Mary's High School has lost its worth in the community. Please consider sending your children somewhere else, because this school is no longer worth $10,000+.

I had a horrible interaction with an admissions counselor and felt she was unkind and her core values just aren’t what I would expect of a private Christian school. Kindness always matters

Terrible. Absolutely awful. There is nothing good coming out of this school. My biggest complaint is the theology department. Specifically Theology 3 in which the teacher's lesson consist of hateful, sexist, and homophobic ideology that leaves students uncomfortable and isolated with no support whatsoever. I personally believe that the student body is learning how to hate the different through this specific theology class. No student with a difference should have to be isolated by a teacher of all people.

Disrespect from both teachers and students teach other students at the school that they are not cared about nor do they matter. In theology classes, students are taught hateful ideology that may affect how students treat other students that are different than the basic white, straight male or female.

Students are extremely rude, disrespectful, and nasty. The school does absolutely nothing about bullying and is too afraid to expel or suspend people for bully-like behavior.

We've had three students attend St. Mary's over the last 10 or so years, and sadly the school is a shell of the former college preparatory institution is once was.
One would expect a school that sells itself as 'college prep' would have a robust counseling department. Sadly, this is far from the case at SMHS. While there are two counselors on staff, both work only part time to have a 'retirement' job with benefits. While their schedules often overlap to provide coverage the entire week, if your student is not assigned to the counselor on duty, he will typically instruct the student to wait for his or her assigned counselor for help and refuse to provide any services to the student. One of the two counselors habitually fails to send required documents to colleges, even after the student repeatedly reminds him to do so, requiring the student to sit in the counselor's office and directly observe him completing the task to ensure it is done.

I have two children attending and their ability to critically think and assimilate information is unsurpassed. Each has been able to participate in the sports of their choice and enjoy their fellow classmates. Because of the small student body, everyone gets to know each other as an individual. Also, this school is one of the best values in the country. Last year 85 seniors won $7.5million in scholarships compared to a local school district where 800+ seniors won $6.3 million.

This school is head and shoulders well above all other high schools in the region. You will not find a finer, more dedicated, more caring cadre of teachers anywhere. I currently have a sophomore attending and the exuberance she comes home with and the excitement she displays when she learns something new is quite infectious and I believe is testament to the Saint Mary's High School experience. If I could give 10 stars I would!

We had 2 children go through St. Mary's and it prepared them well for college! The integration of Christian values into all aspects of their education (academics, athletics, service) gave them a great base for their future and taught them how to deal with challenges they will face later in life. The academics are superb and because of their advanced classes, they were able to test out of almost of year of college classes. This enabled them to take additional classes outside of their major at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Because of their experiences at St. Mary's, both of my children continue to grow in their faith and are actively involved in the church on the university campus. Parents are actively involved in the school community and you end up knowing the families of the students that your children hang out with. Since it is a small school, there is lots of personal connection between teachers and students. The new STEM program helps the students experience engineering before entering college to see if they really want to study in that career field. The school has a good athletics program but is weak in the performing arts.

I have 2 children there and we are extremely happy with the school. Our kids do numerous activities and are doing well in the rigorous classes. St. Mary's is an excellent college prep program with an emphasis on Catholic education to form the whole person. Great teachers and great kids. Best speech and debate program in southern Colorado as well. The small size really creates a family feel and helps the kids form long lasting friendships.
