From the moment you walk through the doors, theres a strong sense of community, respect, and care that touches students, families, and staff alike. The teachers are not only dedicated to academic excellence but also deeply invested in each childs personal and spiritual growth, creating a well-rounded educational experience.
The school does a wonderful job blending strong academics with character development, encouraging students to live out kindness, responsibility, and faith in their daily lives. Small class sizes allow for individualized attention, helping students feel supported and confident as they learn. In addition, the variety of extracurricular activities and community events fosters a sense of belonging and school pride.
Overall, St. Peter Catholic School is a place where students are inspired to grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually. Its clear that the schools mission is lived out every day, making it a fantastic choice for families seeking a positive and enriching education.

Our family is truly blessed to be part of St. Peters Catholic School, and we feel incredibly grateful that our daughter has been able to attend since preschool. From the moment we joined the community, weve felt a positive, welcoming atmosphere and a genuine sense of pride throughout the school. Its the kind of place where students are encouraged to grow, families feel connected, and the overall tone is uplifting and respectful.
One of the biggest things we appreciate is the smaller class sizes, which allow for more one-on-one attention and real relationships between teachers and students. We also deeply value the schools commitment to teaching Catholic/Christian values in a meaningful way. That foundation is so important at a young age, and it reinforces how we try to live at home. We wholeheartedly recommend it to any family looking for a Christian-centered education in a warm, thriving environment.

We have been with St. Peter's for two years now after moving to the area, and are absolutely thrilled with our experience so far. The school community as a whole was very welcoming and made our kids feel immediately comfortable coming into a school where they knew no one. The teachers here truly care for the whole child and their social/emotional well being is just as important as meeting their academic needs. We've also been very impressed with the level of faith formation our children recieve here- Catholic values and teaching are integrated in every way here by both the religious sisters at the school and the teachers. Our kids have loved participating in a variety of extracurricular activities like sports and the musical. This is a great school with a lot to offer!

As a parent of five children who have attended St. Peter's Catholic School, I cannot say enough about the incredible experience our family has had. From the very beginning, we have always felt welcomed and respected- the staff and teachers truly care about each student and family.
St. Peter's has provided not only an excellent academic foundation but also a strong reinforcement of the values that are important to us as a family. The supportive environment, focus on character, and sense of community have helped shape our children into confident, compassionate young adults.

We have 2 kids at this school and soon to be 3, and really enjoy it. We have a 40 min commute one way to school and dont mind the drive because we love the school so much.
Posted: September 10, 2021
We had an excellent 1st year with St Peter but the 2nd year was truly eye opening and we can no longer recommend the school.
First, the mixture of Protestant and Catholic teachers and administrators is problematic. You cannot entrust the forming of your child's soul in the fullness of the Catholic faith to those who are not Catholic. My childs teacher was ignorant of some big catholic devotions, focused more on the secular side of major feast days (more on that below), and in the last month after she had been through the unfortunate experience of divorce, told the children when asked about her missing wedding band that God said I couldnt be married anymore. My child came home absolutely distraught because they were afraid God would tell us ( my husband and I) that we couldnt be married anymore.
Little emphasis was placed on All Saints in my daughters classroom, though the pagan aspects of Halloween were on full display. Advent was spent focusing on Santa complete with my child receiving reindeer food to dump on our lawn to feed Santa's helpers. When we complained, (we don't do Santa in our home) we were first told well its really the kids who bring up Santa. Then when we pressed the issue they admitted that a student in the past said Santa is not real, the parents complained and so now they feel pressured for Santa to be a big presence in the classroom over St Nicholas. They caved to pressure from the parents over a secular tradition! After returning from Christmas vacation the teacher said that Christmas was over. Christmas time of the liturgical calendar goes through January, so once again, ignorance of our faith.
The weeks before St Patricks day featured leprechauns. Her teacher told them they made a trap in the past to catch a leprechaun that trashed their classroom, my daughter believed her and then we spent the next 2 weeks on an almost daily basis having to tell our daughter that leprechauns are not real. When she regurgitated that to her teacher and classmates, her teacher said Well, maybe thats what your mommy and daddy think but not what everyone thinks. So on top of everything else her teacher peddled Moral relativism.
Better education than public schools? Yes. Will they be set up to walk a holy life that is set apart from the world around us? Not likely. I can get a good classical education for my children from a free charter school. But I desire Catholic education for my kids. So homeschooling it is.

The reason I would not recommend this school is because the teachers here are biased, they seek students whose families have left a big fund to the school and they comfort those students than the rest. If drama happens between those students with someone else whose family has not left a fund to a school the teachers will automatically take their side, even if it's totally wrong. They will make up stories to make you look foolish and ignorant. I personally think parents of students should NOT work at the school because, again if something goes wrong they will do everything in there power to make sure their child is happy there, in my opinion if drama happens between students a parent/aunt to the student should not stick their nose in and tell the students that are not their child to just be kind and just be their friend even if the child of the teacher is really acting terrible. This school needs a better discipline system they do not know how to discipline children here. If someone is getting abused by other other students, they will not help you if you are not part of those that leave a fund to the school. And teachers also need better training, they should absolutely not be persuading students that one country is better than another or that one specific race is terrible. This school has amazing faith formation, but the school in general I think can do better. Hopefully with the staff change things will get better at St. Peter.

Our family relocated from the East Coast, and left no stone unturned researching and touring numerous education options in Colorado: public, charter, private, boarding, Montessori, and Catholic schools. We chose St. Peters due to the small classroom sizes, and high academic rigor in a faith-based environment. They offer programs which strive to challenge and support each students spiritual, social, and athletic gifts.

SPCS encourages academic successes; meeting students where they are, and empowering them to be all they are capable of being. In Third Grade, our student met with their teacher on a quarterly basis to set academic goals; learning accountability and their capability to not only meet, but exceed those expectations. Homework was assigned nightly in math, spelling, vocabulary, reading and weekly Spanish lessons.

We find the teachers to be an extension of our core family values, and the administrative staff welcoming and responsive, operating at the highest of professional standards.

The school features weekly mass and daily lessons in the Catholic faith, enhancing students developing religious foundation.

The Principal is not a permanent fixture behind a desk. She is visible, engaged and present - no matter the task!

St. Peter's has set a high standard for zero tolerance to bullying. The school embodies a "building character in education" supplemental curriculum, which promotes family participation at home.

We love St. Peter's and plan to stay there for many more years! Our daughter will start preschool there next year as well. We are very confident that our children will continue to thrive there and love the direction that the school is going.

We had a very negative experience with bullying at another school and feel that our son is much safer at St. Peter's. They work hard to develop an environment of kindness, respect and doing into others as you would want done to you.

We absolutely LOVE St. PETER CATHOLIC School. My child has a smile on his face at the end of the day- which speaks volumes about the school. My child has grown both academically and personally since going to St. PETER. I am truly grateful that we choose this school, it's definitely VA blessing.
Posted: January 16, 2020
The homework just reinforces what the child learned that day in school. My child is usually done within 45mins which is quite reasonable amount of time spent on homework each school night!
Posted: January 16, 2020
The teachers and staff are nurturing, compassionate and treat the children with great respect, love and understanding. They really demonstrate they care about the success for each student. The teachers and staff are fully dedicated to the students.
Posted: January 16, 2020
I LOVE that St. PETER has a no bully tolerance policy. Knowing my child is safe gives me a sense of peace. Every child is taught to respect one another and include others. Knowing my child is grow up to be a well rounded, kind hearted and respectable person is definitely a blessing.

As a new comer from Canada I really found it easy to integrate my child into the school. I was given a lot oinformation regarding school policy, function etc. The staff were so welcoming and incredibly helpful. I am always well informed on what's going on in the school and my childs education.
Posted: January 16, 2020
Coming from Canada, my child was introduced to a totally new curriculum so he was behind in some subjects. His teacher and principal noticed right away and wanted to rectify the issue asap. They gave a lot of positive reinforcement and great information to get the help my child needed in order to succeed. After 4 months of hard work my child has already made the honor roll. That speaks volumes of how much his teachers and principle care about the success of each student!

Any problems are dealt with quickly and fairly, and the Principal is brought in when needed. The teachers are very caring and compassionate towards each child. They teach using the "whole-child" concept.
Posted: November 21, 2019
This is very important to our family. St. Peter teaches my children to respect each individual, to work through problems with compassion and respect. Discipline is based on the Virtue Based Restorative Discipline model, which teaches my children what virtue they might have broken and how they can do better on that area in the future.
Posted: November 21, 2019
I have not seen a Principal who is more hands on and involved in every area, as needed. She knows each child in the school by name.
Posted: November 21, 2019
Although the academics are rigorous, St. Peter has a Reading Interventionist, and Aides to assist in the larger class sizes. With generally smaller class sizes, students seem to get the attention they need.
Posted: November 21, 2019
When I see issues occurring between kids, the teachers, playground monitors, and Principal get involved with any issue they see. Students are taught how to handle problems with the backup of the Christian Faith. Parents are also involved when necessary.
Posted: November 21, 2019
We have had a very positive experience at St. Peter for over six years. I see the school grow stronger year by year. Even with a growing school and more students each year, the staff continues to receive ongoing Professional Development and the school is constantly looking to improve. Please visit the school and make up your own mind, without taking negative reviews to heart. There are some people who go out of their way to trash a school's name, but from what I have seen, St. Peter has an extremely high percentage of satisfied parents and families.

The amount of homework is appropriate by grade. My second-grader only has about 10 minutes of homework per night, plus reading. My fourth-grader has approximately an hour of homework, but he is in advanced math, which takes a little longer.

Excellent, excellent school. My husband is former military and I traveled with him across the globe while teaching and so I have experience teaching in exactly 22 elementary schools. While St. Peter has its flaws, as all schools do, this is by far the best one I have ever seen. The teachers genuinely care and I'm seeing my son molded into a young man that is very passionate about life, charity, holding conservative principles, and well prepared for high school.
Posted: September 12, 2018
As of 2018, my child still attends this school. It's becoming clear that, for the most part, the parents that chime in the most are, understandably, the most disgruntled. No school is perfect. We have had our issues. But overall, the teachers have been very open to listening. One aspect of this was homework. I thought at first it was overbearing for my son but when I talked to the teacher one on one, she explained what the reasoning for this is. Long story short, the rigorous homework assignments ended up paying off and my son is very well prepared for high school next year.
Posted: September 12, 2018
The teachers aren't perfect, as in any school. But any time I have had an issue with something they have always listened to me. Overall, the teachers are pleasant, kind, and very accomodating.
Posted: September 12, 2018
My husband is Catholic and I am not, I attend a Methodist church. Initially I had some real issues sending our son here. However, while the material is obviously Catholic in nature, I am extremely impressed at how, through scripture, this school has really instilled a deep sense of compassion and respect in my son. He's developed a passion for volunteer work for the homeless and poor every weekend and he's only 13. His passion for church and the liturgy (along with the friends he's made there) is unlike anything I've ever seen in kids from other schools.
Posted: September 12, 2018
I've seen a lot of parents complain about bullying. Bullying happens at every school and I would challenge anyone (as a former teacher myself) to pinpoint a school where bullying is NOT an issue. When bullying occurs at this school it is dealt with swiftly and promptly.

While I have no personal experience with this, I am friends with another parent of a child with autism and the accommodations for this have been amazing according to them.

Our student struggled with overwhelming amounts of homework in public schools. The load at St. Peter's was manageable and challenging.

Mr. Nigro, the Science teacher has the students study rocketry, robotics and even has live turtles, tree frogs and other neat biology related items that make learning more fun. He is kind and really cares about the kids. Mrs. Priddy, the religious studies and math teacher, is the sweetest, she really respects her students individuality and gently nurtures them in their growth.

I have never before seen such kind, cheerful and eager students. It was a hugely refreshing change from Palmer Ridge, where the students have been culturally mongrelized.

Palmer Ridge, D-38 schools ostracized our student having learning difficulties, then twice refused to assign him an IEP. Teachers emailed me complaining about their work load!

St. Peter's is an oasis of tranquility! They have a brand new playground that the kids adore, and the staff watch over them every nano second. One would be hard pressed to talk to, harass or abduct a child from this school. Each child is personally walked to their parents vehicles after school, and the staff member personally opens the car door to seat the student safely! Ultra safe and secure school with cameras and locked entries. St. Peter's is obsessive about security.
Conversely, we actually feared for our son's life at the D-38 schools. The "Gang Culture" is seeping in and even the kids from the nicer families are forced to go along with crap music and sexual abuse from peers.
Posted: August 3, 2017
Absolutely a dream come true! We are so fortunate to have such warm and wonderful school amidst all the chaos. Several students and young people from the public schools in the area have committed suicide in recent times. It makes one wonder if these kids from very nice families perhaps couldn't deal with the classless, cold society of the public school culture, a real shock to anyone who has integrity and belief, to deal with. St. Peter's is a safe haven island in a sea of overwhelming public school confusion.

St. Peter is a wonderful school for raising good citizens. Is it perfect? Of course not. But I know my young child is in a safe environment with people who care about the well-being of all of the students. As you read through the negative reviews, notice the dates they were published. Four bad reviews on the same day? Hmmm. In my job, you never heard from the satisfied customers. Only the angry, disgruntled ones. This is a good school with a good, hardworking staff and a joyous place. The kids ALL genuinely like each other and know each other and watch out for each other. You get that when there are only 150 kids in the whole school.

The principal is weak on bullying and unkindness. She herself is a nice woman and a good listener. But she fails to ever make any changes necessary to protect children from peers or even teachers who are mean. We have talked with her many times about our child and the problems in the classroom, problems which stem from other students and from a classroom teacher who is not at all warm and fuzzy to the kids. Nothing ever changes. The principal says everything we want to hear, but she doesn't ever have the strength to actually stand up for what's right. She is not an assertive or take-charge personality, and that does a real disservice to students at the school who need her to be their advocate. In talking with other parents, we know we are not alone in this assessment.
Posted: January 13, 2017
The children are taught to be the hands and face of Christ to each other. I love the 4 part apology that the children use to repair a wrong. If there is a problem that the adults are not aware of, all it takes is a phone call for the teachers and principal to address the issue.
Posted: January 13, 2017
Each of my children have different learning styles and needs. With the small class sizes, there is not slipping through the cracks. The reading interventionist has worked with one of my children to bring her up to grade level. I feel each of my children are valued for their uniqueness.
Posted: January 13, 2017
The Principal at the school knows every child by name. She also has an in depth understanding of each child's learning strengths and weaknesses. She works closely with teachers and parents to make sure that every child is challenged and growing.

My oldest is learning to set personal goals and then determine if he has achieved that goal. He is learning how to plan projects and follow through.

Each teacher we have had is caring and my children love learning. I know they are spending hours preparing their lessons and grading the work. I so appreciate how much my children are growing academically.
Posted: January 13, 2017
The homework has purpose and meaning. My children have learned to take responsibility for their work and plan for activities. This is such a critical skill for success at high school and college!

We just absolutely LOVE this school! I have 3 children in the school and every teacher has been professional and exceptional teachers. The classrooms are nurturing and enriching with a strong faith based environment. We are so blessed to have St. Peter Catholic School.

I disagree with the comments regarding no challenge for the gifted students. My kids have been at St. Peter for 3 years, both are extremely bright, and they are challenged and working on academics that are 1-2 years ahead of their grade level. The school also has a Reading Interventionist and Math help for any students who need extra assistance. For a small school, they have lots of resources. We also have a brand new playground for K-8. The students at St. Peter have no problem using their imaginations and creativity on the playground and at any recess. Our kids get more recess time and lunch time than many of the public schools.
When reading reviews on this page, be mindful that the same person can post 8 reviews and make it look like they are from different families. This website is not the best place to get information to help you make your decision on schools in the area. You should tour the schools in which you are interested and make up your own mind.

The curriculum at St. Peter's feels very hodge-podge. We are new to this school, and we are not off to a good start. We really wanted our kids at a Catholic school, but this one is disappointing so far. My children are bored, confused, and frustrated. The school's curriculum is well behind our kids' last school's. There is no gifted program here, and the teachers & kids don't seem able to accommodate gifted learners very well. My sweet kids really haven't made any friends yet, two months into school. It is very sad for our family. Also, there's no playground, though the school keeps promising one. My kids miss having a fun recess. We are re-thinking our choice of St. Peter and are looking at the D-38 schools. All of our neighbors speak highly of the local public schools.

My sweet kids haven't made any new friends yet. The students who have been at this school for a while are not very welcoming to new students.
Posted: October 3, 2016
Teachers need to help build friendships among their students. Also, a new student orientation should be offered and should be nurturing. That was, new kids don't feel so confused and lost and left out.

The curriculum here is narrow and small-worlded. Please do read all of the comments here and take the critical ones seriously. The children at St. Peter's have almost no opportunity to explore their own interests or to express themselves through creative writing, poetry, art, or music. Reading for fun is practically forbidden; it must be done only for AR tests or worksheets. The foreign language curriculum is pitiful. Children likewise can't express themselves at lunch, which has long periods of mandatory silence. Nor can they express themselves in the hallways, which must be silent and where their own creations are rarely on display. Likewise, they can't express themselves at car pick-up time, where they must stand silently. Nor can they express themselves at recess, as there is no playground for them to play and move on. Parents are right to desire faith education for their kids, but the overall stifling environment here is too negative. Faith education can't possibly make up for all of the negativity in the curriculum and the discipline style of this school.
Posted: March 11, 2016
I'd rather see more creativity in the classroom. I haven't seen my elementary school children do any poetry. They haven't done much, if any, expressive writing. They haven't created any art in their classrooms. They don't have any free time to read. The classrooms here are structured so tightly that children have no opportunity for self-expression or for pursuing their own interests. I'd like to see the teachers learn how to allow children a bit of the freedom to make learning truly fun and interesting.
Posted: March 11, 2016
Honestly, I think there is way too much homework in the lowest grades at St. Peter. Kids that age need to be outside playing after school, not spending hours each evening at the kitchen table doing homework.
Posted: March 11, 2016
No. While this school tries to introduce character education, I believe a Responsive Classroom approach would better serve the children. Responsive Classroom, which you can google, is a kind, warm, welcoming way for celebrating children, making them feel welcomed, and disciplining them gently but effectively when needed. Teachers need to be trained in it.
Posted: March 8, 2016
We love the faith education. Our children come home and tell us the Bible stories they learned in at school. We also love the small class size because our children receive individualized attention from their teachers.
Posted: March 8, 2016
The teachers are very nurturing. They know almost every child in the school and treat them as if they were their own children.
Posted: March 8, 2016
The homework amount is just right and reinforces the learning taking place during the day.
Posted: March 8, 2016
Students treat each other with respect. The older students help younger students. They read to and with them. The older students sit with the younger students in Mass to assist them.
Posted: February 22, 2016
I often see teachers still working in their classrooms late into the evening. I think they work very hard to provide the students with meaningful lessons that are engaging and meet everyone's needs. I know that many of the teachers at this school offer additional help during recess and after school hours.
Posted: February 22, 2016
On most days, the homework load is manageable. There are occasions when my children are required to put in a bit more time. For instance, whenever there are projects it does take some extra effort. But this seems to be preparing them for the increasing demands of the higher grades. I do appreciate that the homework is meaningful and not just "busy work."
Posted: February 22, 2016
I love how their morning begins with a school-wide prayer asking God to bring these very elements into their day. The teachers use the Love & Logic method of discipline, which I feel respects the integrity of each child and it shows them how to do the same when interacting with their peers.
Posted: February 22, 2016
My child really enjoys the positive relationships with his friends, and likes his teacher who is kind, patient and understanding. He goes to school happy and comes home the same. He has stated that the "fun games make us learn." All of my kids have enjoyed being a part of the St. Peter community through their involvement in sports, choir and K-Kids.

St. Peter has been a terrible match for our bright, friendly, outgoing, funny, happy, gifted child. It is stifling. The teachers are uninspiring and lack creativity. The whole philosophy of the school is one of punishment and ostracism. It is unlike other Catholic schools my children have attended. Where is the fun? Where is the joie de vivre? Where is the laughter? Where is the joy? Where is the delight in the children we serve? Children should not come home from school crying every day, feeling frustrated and demoralized. I know military families often look to Great Schools as they consider options for their children and plan life in a new city. Consider St. Peter with great caution. Read carefully through each and every review written here. There is great wisdom in the critical reviews here, wisdom you'll be so glad you heeded. I wouldn't choose St. Peter, knowing what I know now. But if you do choose it for your kids, at least you'll go in with eyes wide open.

The teachers are not creative or innovative. There seems to be no cohesive teaching philosophy here. And curriculum does not flow well from one year to the next. I wonder if the teachers even like each other.
Posted: February 19, 2016
I do believe the lower grades have far too much homework. It seems to be the expectation here that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders have multiple hours or homework each night. I believe this is out of hand.

After negative experiences at St. Peter, we now have one child at St. Peter and one child in a publish school in District 38. We have found the public school to far exceed St. Peter both in academics and in emotional intelligence. Our public school child comes home much happier that our St. Peter child every day. Come next school year, both of our children will be in the public D-38 schools. The D-38 schools have almost no bullying and no angry teachers. D-38 is a wonderful school district--can't be beat!

The teachers are uninspiring. They and the administration seem utterly beholden to a handful of popular and powerful parents.
Posted: February 16, 2016
Unreasonable expectations in the lower grades. Most school projects seem to be done by the parents. The projects are beautiful, don't get me wrong. But they are not the children's own work.
Posted: February 16, 2016
Most importantly, St. Peter does not develop kindness in its students. New kids are never accepted into the fold.
Posted: January 28, 2016
The teachers are open to feedback and they work hard to help every child grow academically. I appreciate a teacher who takes the time to let me know how we can work together as a team to help my child reach his goals. I have found this to be true at this school. It seems as though the teachers genuinely care about each student in their class.

The homework is not anything I wouldn't already be doing with my child, like reading every night and practicing those foundational skills such as math facts and writing.
Posted: January 28, 2016
I chose this school over public schools because I like the fact that teachers can rely on our Catholic Faith as a primary teaching tool in the day-to-day issues that come up in a child's life.
Posted: January 28, 2016
This school is a pleasant place to be. The faculty and staff are welcoming, the parents have been helpful and the children seem to have strong friendships with their peers as well as solid bonds with their teachers.

I'm constantly amazed to learn what my child has learned that day. How many of you knew what DNA stood for? I didn't but my child did! In case you were't aware, it means deoxyribonucleic acid. I had to ask my child again just so I could type this note. If the teachers can make this subject fun enough to remember, props to you all!

There is quiet a bit of homework but it's something I expected when enrolling my child in a Catholic School. They hold their children to high standards which is going to help them become stronger more capable individuals later in their lives. While homework is sent home more often than not, it's never been unmanageable and directly relates to what they've learned that day.

One of the main reasons we chose Catholic school over public school was to help instill these moral values in our child. I love to see that God has not left the classroom which is something public schools lack today.

I've been extremely pleased with the quality of education my child receives at St. Peter's. The teachers are loving and attentive which is reflective in the excitement my child has to attend school each day.
The sports program is small but continues to grow. The also offer a wonderful variety of extra curricular activities. It's so reassuring as a parent to know that you've picked the right school when your child "wants" to go to school rather than "has" to go to school.

We took our child out of this school--a decision we did not take lightly, as we truly value Catholic education. We could not bear to pick up a crying child after school for one more day. Our normally very happy, cheerful, well-liked child could not bear one more day of being picked on by classmates and teachers alike. Now away from St. Peter Catholic School, our happy child is back! We did NOT make this decision because we like jumping from school to school. It caused us a lot of pain to have to do so. But it's the best decision we've made. We also are not parents who just plop our kids in front of the tv or who can't get our own acts together, as the Dec. 9th poster suggested. It's negative, condescending, cruel attitudes like that which are so common at this school among the teachers, parents, and their kids. It's attitudes like that which make children cry, parents leave, and the school fail in every way that matters.

I chuckle at some of the negative reviews - mainly because they are filled with inaccurate information and bitter feelings from parents who jump from school to school to school - doing more harm than good for their children but also because anyone associated with the school probably knows who they are anyway. I have found that when I have an issue with a teacher or the school, that there is genuine effort to address my concerns and work is put forth towards a solution. I haven't always gotten what I want, and no the school is not perfect, but the community is fantastic and all of my children (4) are better prepared for the real world having attended. Anonymous posts (like mine) really only serve the purpose of venting frustration . . . and rarely tell the whole story. Take them all with a grain of salt!

Often I hear parents complain about the "homework" - however I have found that those parents are also the ones who can't seem to "get it together" themselves. I realize it is easier to just plop your kids in front of the TV at night however I bet if you simply make a plan and stick to it you would find that your 1-2 hours is really only about 20 minutes.

As a current parent, I am getting very tired of the worn-out line that we need to be patient with the school because it is a "young" school. It's not that young anymore but we still don't have our act together. Indeed, there are numerous same-age or younger schools in the immediate area that are truly thriving and have so much more to offer (Monument Academy, Hope Montessori, Bear Creek Elem, just to name a few). And St. Peter is still behind and hardly even playing catch-up. Our teachers don't know how to incorporate technology into the classroom and our technology offerings are still woefully inadequate anyway. There is STILL no playground and no acceptable plans for one. The Exploratory Time classes, while a good start, are uninspired and unimaginative. I realize that the current principal inherited a school that was kind of in a mess. But she's been there 3+ years now and, while she says the right things, nothing has really changed. The same horrible teachers she was left saddled with are STILL here. I don't know why she has chosen to keep them. Some are really not nice to kids. It's the kids that are the most important thing, and I feel that the teachers at St. Peter are not being well-trained enough in how to treat children kindly or in child psychology. We seem to have an inordinate number of unhappy kids here (and, thus, dissatisfied parents), and that makes me sad. No, the notion that ours is a "young" school and that this excuses the subpar experience our children are getting is just nonsense. We have potential to be so much more, we just don't have the vision or the ACTION to make it happen. It's a shame. I used to always recommend this school to my friends who were moving into the area. But I don't do that anymore. I can't in good conscience recommend this school to anyone, especially not given how many other good school choices out there. You really can't go wrong with any of the local D-38 or D-20 schools. Or I'd drive to Ave Maria Catholic School, Corpus Christi, Divine Redeemer, or St. Paul (Pauline Memorial) before choosing St. Peter. It's important to be honest, and this school leaves a lot to be desired. So disappointing.

By far the worst school our children have attended. We are a military family and have moved several times. Our kids have attended both public schools and Catholic schools elsewhere. St. Peter was the least well-prepared school to welcome incoming military families. It also had the least well-developed, well-rounded curriculum. We did not find this Catholic school to be particularly catholic with a lower-case "c," a word meaning "all-embracing" and "including a wide variety of things." The curriculum and other offerings were stale, narrow-minded, and circumscribed. Our family thinks of Catholic education in the best sense of the traditional, broad, classical pedagogy--infused with innovation, creativity, liveliness, and fun. We did not find any of that here. We are eager--and our kids are excited--to join the excellent D-38 public schools!

Eight years ago, when our family moved to Monument, we were thrilled to find St. Peter. Having grown up in Catholic schools, I had first hand experience of the value of a Catholic education. St. Peter has lived up to my expectations. Our children are thriving academically due to the dedication of the teachers and staff, and are at least one grade level ahead in their studies. Perhaps more importantly, they are also being taught values such as responsibility and stewardship. Furthermore, in my experience, St. Peter has become a community for my family. The small school atmosphere allows us to get to know the staff as well as families of students in all grades/classes. We look forward to the future of St. Peter, as it continues to grow, and completes near term planned projects such as technology advancements in the classroom (dedicated tablets / chromebooks), and expansion of the playground.

We are overwhelmed by the focus on money here. This has been our first year at St. Peter Catholic School and we have found the fundraising and solicitation for money to be relentless. We get more communication from the school regarding money and fundraising than we do about all other topics combined. We have tried to talk to the HSA about our concern that the focus on money is too much but it's been pretty much nonstop all year. Considering how high the tuition is, we had not expected to be bombarded by so much fundraising and donation requests. The kids are also strongly pressured to do direct sales several times throughout the year and this makes us very uncomfortable. We hope it tones down next year. It makes us question the financial stability of this school and what its real values are. Maybe this was just an extreme year. We hope so!

I just had to review St. Peters and explain what a truly amazing place this has been for our family. We have been at another Catholic school in another state, and there were so many issues there, that it was refreshing to come to Monument and be a part of this great school. Now I know every school has its problems and it is not a "fit" for every family. Small class sizes, high academic standards, giving back to the community, and creating loving respectful children may not be what some want in a school. My kids have thrived at this school and I know they will be prepared for high school and all the things that they will face in the future. St. Peters is improving every year by adding drama club, cheerleading, and other extra curricular activities. The principal is always asking for feedback on how we can improve our school, and she is working very hard to make positive changes. I remember the first time we walked into the school and how we had that "feeling" that this was the school for us. My message to everyone is to come take a look at this school and see for yourself. And if it isn't a fit for your family, just move on, don't bad mouth teachers, parents, or administration.

Bullying and ostracism are big problems here and we have seen them get worse over the years. We have been surprised by the number of fighting events recently at St. Peter School and that the fighters are allowed to remain at school with no punishment. Other schools our children have attended elsewhere have not had this problem. Last week a child punched (punched!) another child. And still that child stays. The whole environment here seems to lend itself to these problems. The classes are TOO small. New students are made to feel left out. Children get bored with one another and don't have enough other friends to choose from. It is very cliquish here. And it's not only cliquish among the children. The teachers are cliquish, preferring the popular and powerful families' children. And the parents are cliquish, too. And mean. The children and the parents have a habit of threatening or ostracizing less popular kids. The principal is aware of these problems. But she does not seem to have the guts to stand up to the bullies herself and to really make a difference. We have not yet decided if we will return next year.

We are about to finish our 7th year at St. Peter. And while no school is absolutely perfect, St. Peter gets it right most of the time. The teachers truly love the children. We attend this school and pay the tuition because there are 13-16 kids in each class! That kind of ONE ON ONE with a child is worth EVERY PENNY. I tell people all the time- If we were Jewish, I would still send my children to this school! Yes, there are decent free options in the area. We toured those schools. And what we saw are classrooms jammed to the gills. If your child can keep up, they do fine. If they cant, they fall through the cracks because no human, however great a teacher they are, can keep up with 32 kids. Those teachers are stretched too thin. What would you want for your child? The opportunity to actually be taught by a teacher, one on one, when they are struggling with a concept/problem.... or for a teacher to think- yep, she's not getting it but I cant stop to teach one kid. It's your choice. Personally, I choose the small individual classes at St. Peter for my child.

Our middle-schooler has decided not to return to St. Peter's next year. So have several other middle school students. There are not enough opportunities or extracurriculars here. We would like to see middle school students offered drama classes/performances. Also cheerleading opportunities would be nice. Middle school band would be nice too. Other ideas--computer club, science club, advanced art, track team, creative writing club & competitions. There is a reason so many kids are leaving St. Peter's. The surrounding public schools are excellent and offer more for kids of all ages to do. I think St. Peter's is great for kindergarten and younger. But there's not enough variety of interests and not enough kids/teachers to keep elementary or middle school kids engaged and excited about school. These extracurricular activities are an extension of learning and should be available, especially for the price of tuition at St. Peter's.

Overly expensive for what you get! The Spanish curriculum is non-existent. Our kids haven't learned a single Spanish word. I've never seen a Spanish vocabulary list or verb conjugation list for study. The music curriculum is lackluster. My kids haven't been taught a whole note from a quarter note, or fortissimo from pianissimo. The sound, lights and stage systems for music shows, etc., are just terrible! I've also not seen any art produced by my children. It's never on display at school, and it doesn't come home in backpacks either. I think it disappears into the ether, if it's created at all. In gym, my children have not learned the official rules to any games--baseball, basketball, soccer, etc. There are no bleachers in the gym for the few extracurricular sports. Spectators must stand. No gifted & talented program here. No school counselor. No school nurse. No academic aides. The hot lunch program is a hot mess--kids often don't get food they ordered! And most sadly of all, there's no playground! And no field for track, soccer, or kickball. Kids have just a small concrete parking lot for play. For 500 bucks per kid per month, you just don't get your money's worth here.

Our school is both bad and good. We are good at maintaining tight discipline. Children learn that there are consequences and punishments for their actions. They lose recess or privileges if they misbehave or fail to turn in homework. We have silent hallways, silent lunchrooms, and silent classrooms. We are also good at emphasizing a strict Catholic environment. We are not too good at welcoming new families. Children who start in pre-school or kindergarten have an advantage here because that is when all of the connections between children and between parents form. Trying to join the school later in the elementary years can be tough socially. Some military families love our school because it starts with a prayer and the pledge everyday. But other military families find it hard to fit in here because they and their kids are never fully welcomed. We need to work on that. We've gone through 4 principals in only 11 years of existence as a school, so we're seeking stability. Also, about the current 2nd grade teacher--our children had her when she was the 3rd grade teacher. She is definitely a strange lady who picks her favorites at random and is mean to the ones who aren't her favorites.

In researching, St. Peter surpassed schools near us, for test scores & the right "feel". We got involved to meet people & to understand the school. My kids have fun at lunch & play, and yes, in the classroom. ALL the teachers know my children by name. The teachers give hugs, receive hugs and care about our children. They celebrate birthdays, holidays & Christmas (with The Polar Express & letters to Santa). I know they continue values we regard at home, because I am often in school. Our principal encourages generosity, kindness, integrity & academic excellence. We have a Father/Daughter dance, Mother/Son games, Spirit Nights, pumpkin carving, Teacher Appreciation week, Field Day, Hot Chocolate Run & school Mass. Our parish offers monetary support. Parishioners & students work on projects. A reading interventionist is on staff. Students who excel, move to higher learning. Kids participate in sports, art, music, Spanish, tech, Girl & Boy Scouts, & Challenge Club. Pizza Fridays support the 8th grade trip. We collect toys for hospitals & have Reading-a-thons for Heifer Intnl. We sell Butter Braids & Entertainment Books. I recommend St. Peter from the bottom of my heart.

We LOVE St.Peter! No school will ever be perfect - there is room for improvement specifically with the addition of a playground -- but it's in the works! There is growth and excitement among the parents and administration! As for the teachers - they excel in every way. I have a 2nd grader and a kindergartener and they enjoy going to school each day. I have heard the second grade teacher say several times "there is no such thing as a bad day in the 2nd grade!" There is attention to structure, personal responsibility and integrity! And yes, the real "reason for the season" is emphasized but that is why I choose catholic school for my children in the first place. I could go on and on about all reasons I love my children's teachers but what is most important is that my children LOVE their teachers!!! That speaks for itself.
Posted: April 12, 2015
If I could give this school 10 stars I would! St Peter's teachers are the most focused, energetic, and caring teachers who go above and beyond to accommodate students. We are military and were so happy with how the families and students all worked to make us feel at home despite being newcomers. I would note that the small class size and the efficient curbside drop-off and pick-up are two additional benefits.

We have four children at St. Peter and could not be happier with the education they are receiving both academic and with their values and morals. They are learning not only math and reading but how to respect each other and themselves and show compassion for all.

We love St. Peter Catholic School. Our three children have thrived there, and we have been so pleased with their school experience. The teachers of the lower grades, especially the second grade teacher, have been outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend St. Peter to anyone looking for a quality Catholic education for their children.

We are angry, hurt, bitter, and heartbroken that our very young elementary school child was taught by the teacher (not by classmates) that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are not real and that Catholics do not believe in such "silly stories" because they are not the true meaning of those holidays. We have known for the several years that our children have attended here that St. Peter was a strict school that took the liturgy and catechism very seriously, but it did not cross our minds that a teacher here would deliberately rob her very young students of these enormous joys. This teacher's religion lessons only just came to light for us this weekend at Easter. We are terribly upset.
Posted: February 25, 2015
No, I cannot recommend this school. Some kids might groove on the stern, severe, austere environment here. But if your family values love, warmth, fun, Santa Claus, giggles, & joy this isn't the right school. The fourth-grade and middle school science programs are excellent. But many teachers are sour, catty, and needlessly authoritarian. The second-grade teacher is truly unkind; a number of families have left St. Peter rather than have their children in her class. Parents (and teachers!) grumble that we need a change in climate and culture." Communication is poor. The relationship between the parish and its own school is combative. Most teachers aren't actually parishioners at St. Peter. And while small classes can offer educational benefits, in this tiny school one can't avoid the many meanies. About academic excellence: No smart boards. No Gifted & Talented program. No pull-out resource program for struggling learners. No academic aides. No playground! There s only the concrete parking lot for play not even a grassy field. Finally, St. Peter Catholic School seems broke. Too much focus on requests for money, fundraising, and chinchiness.

Love everything about this school. Our daughter is thriving here. She is safe at school, is being challenged appropriately and is learning more about our faith. We are so happy here. As a military family we will move again in 2 yrs and I am not sure any school will ever be as good of a fit as St Peters is for us. Worth every penny.

We truly love our school! As a military family and former homeschooling family, we could not ask for a better environment for our children. We followed the Core Knowledge Curriculum and Seton Catholic Homeschooling Curriculum and are so pleased with how well both areas are incorporated at St Peter's. We specifically chose this school for the small class sizes of 10-15. The entire staff is dedicated to the students. Parents are always welcome and are involved in numerous volunteer activities. The Catholic education received here is worth every penny and allows our children to live their faith daily. We currently have a 4th grader, 2nd grader and preschooler enrolled.
