We went to this school 2024-2025 and we really liked that they did interactive events for the families like halloween trunk or treat, talent show, concerts, etc. The special education team is phenomenal. Why I scored so low though is because there is a lot of pressure on the students to perform, and the homework was a lot, unreasonably. The Dean of students had poor communication and it would take weeks for her to respond. My daughter was dealing with bullying, which the Dean just wanted to have a "sit down conversation" with my daughter and these bullies to "work out their differences" but there were no repercussions for these bullies' bad behavior, so of course it continued, and it turned so hostile to where my daughter didn't even want to go to school. We are at a different school this year and are more happy with how they have handled the bullying. Shout out to Mr. Smalberger in 5th grade! My daughter loved school only because he really cares for his students and was there for my daughter when she needed. We need more teachers like him!

This school is truly a great community my son has great friends! But above that he’s pretty high and they recognize that and allow him to go up in grade levels for different aspects of his education.

This has been a wonderful school for my 4 daughters. They all score high on state tests and love/loved going to school there. It’s a welcoming community where the kids education, core values, and safety are at the top of educators priorities.

Like many small charter schools, sometimes you get a rogue school board every now and then. Last year the school board forced the administrative team out and took control themselves. This did not go well as they were soon hit with a Breach of Contract from their authorizer for multiple mismanaged areas. Since then, CSCA seems to have cleared their name and removed all of their former board members. I have kept my kids there through last years debacle and am happy with the direction the school is going. I chose this school due to the excellent academics and class size. We were also looking for a school that shared our high family morals. The campus is beautiful and the staff is very loving. Like many charter schools, funding seems to be an issue at CSCA but with a new school board they should build back their numbers quickly.

My son has been at this school for two years and has really excelled. Coming from a D11 public school left a lot to be desired. CSCA challenges him to be his absolute best. The reading curriculum, "Reading Mastery" has been wonderful for him and we have seen significant growth. The number one reason I believe in this school is because they offer ability grouping, which I believe is essential in education. My only complaint is that I do not believe research shows that all of the homework assigned is productive. I do believe homework can teach responsibility; however, I feel daily homework leads to burnout. To summarize, I like this school, the staff, the curriculum, and the character development. I believe they have designed an educational opportunity that allows students to develop much quicker than other schools. Thank you CSCA!

All schools have issues, this I know. But this school lacks communication on EVERY level, only focuses on certain things that the head of school feels is a priority rather than listening to the families, teachers or students themselves.

CSCA holds it leadership and teachers to high standard. I would rather have turnover for a underperforming principle or teacher than reward them for longevity which is what you sometimes get at schools.

The school can only do so much, and I believe CSCA tries and offers programs and education on the issue. As community members and parents we need to have some accountability ourselves. After school a CSCA student swore at my preschooler, the student told my partner that “you can tell my mom, she doesn’t care” I don’t blame CSCA for this type of thing but as a society we have to stop enabling and making excuses

I appreciate that even though they have good testing scores and they receive state recognition they are not satisfied and are always trying to improve.

I am thankful that we have a school like that within the District 11 boundaries.

I also appreciate the breadth of education they are offering. I’m glad my kids still have art and music classes.

Teachers here are not here for paychecks but because they have a love of learning. My kids have a passion for art, music, and Spanish because even the elective instructors WANT to teach and it shows.

Up to a year ago I would have said very positive, even this past Thanksgiving I would have said positive, now as the 2017-18 school year winds down I can only say that this school has slipped for an asset to the community to possibly a detriment. My children will NOT be returning and, until things change at the School Board and Head Of School levels I cannot recommend this school to anyone. I hope the staff that stays at CSCA sees dramatic change quickly, the academic staff is good to excellent but the school experience in total is now awful.

by and large the academic staff are very good to excellent, however their best efforts are consistently stymied but terrible administration, no support, no leadership and the use of intimidation and bullying by the administration and support staff. That the children learn anything at this school is wholly due to the dedication and efforts of the teachers, often to thier own personal and professional detriment.

This school staff ARE the actual bullies! If kids will have serious consequences for forgetting to wear their uniform belt, then teachers should have to wear a uniform belt too so they can maybe remember how easy it can be for a small child to forget one. That’s one small example.

There is a great counselor who helped my son get through some tough bullying situations. Teachers teach a weekly core values lesson that is very similar to what I had in Catholic school.

"Leadership" is untrustworthy in dealings with staff and the community. staff is paranoid about getting fired if there is any disagreement with the Board of Supervisors than they are about my kids.

I agree with the previous post. My kids are work hard to make mostly B's with a few C's and an occasional A. They feel like outsiders if they do not understand a concept the first time and need to ask a question. Both usually just wait until they get home to have me re-explain if they don't understand. My son says if he asks a question, the teachers response is "You should have been listening the first time."

A LOT of homework. Our kids are active with sports, church, and other activities outside of school, so homework affected their grades. There is a lot families are expected to teach their kids through science fair, regular projects that requires shopping and building of projects.

Good job of hiring teachers, but high staff turnover rate. CSCA lost 6 teachers last year (of 22) and this is typical. It is even common for teachers to leave in the middle of the school year for some reason.

GREAT job of addressing “academic bullies”. Teacher regularly discipline students for teasing and making fun of kids who do not always get it on the first try. We really appreciate how the school has handled these ongoing situations.

Teachers did a great job of helping my kids in 2nd and 5th grades deal with repeated and ongoing bullies. Our kids felt like they do no “fit in” because they do not make straight A’s. The staff is well aware of the problem and have been trained and coached on how to help kids navigate these difficult waters, we really appreciate it.

I love this school and am so grateful it exists. My daughters are thriving here and are scoring above advanced on the national tests. They are happy, they are taught respect and morals with the core virtues, they make sure kids are not overwhelmed with homework but have an appropriate amount for grade level. It is a wonderful little school. I have not encountered a teacher that bullies like reported on another review but I hope that teacher is disciplined because that is not the way CSCA operates at all.

I am constantly telling my friends about this school. As a total compliment to the school, I tend to refer to it as the type of school a home school parent would send their child to. Some charter schools may have a specific focus, but they are still very much limited by what the public district says they can and cannot do. CSCA has much more control in their affairs. Plus, because they are so parent focused, that means we as the parents have much more of a say and a place that one would find anywhere else.. Anywhere you send your child to school, there will always be conflict because we are all human, but this is the kind of place that deals with the conflict as best as they can and moves forward for the good of everyone at the school instead of sweeping it under the rug or focusing on it too much. They are very structured and they manage everything they run VERY well to serve families and the surrounding community as best they can. The class sizes are moderate, but there is a teacher AND a teacher's aid for each classroom, which I think is a wonderful idea. It is a phenomenal facility, rigorous curriculum, and full of wise, efficient fundraising efforts. CSCA has a strong focus on good character, hard work, and valuing others, which I feel is even more important than the facts and figures at a point.. I literally could go on and on and on, but I'll stop there. I love our school!

We are a military family and had to move right in the middle of the school year. I was not happy with the reviews and report card from the school she would have been assigned to and I am so blessed CSCA had an opening for my daughter. The staff from the very beginning made our transition seamless. The curriculum is quite challenging compared to her previous school. The 1st grade teachers were amazing at getting her up to speed. By the end of the year she was considered advanced in most subjects. The staff is very focused on the success of students academically and on core values. I have a 30 minute drive to the school but it is completely worth it.

We have three kids. Our oldest started at CSCA in 2008, and our youngest just started last year. The curriculum is challenging, the teachers are communicative and supportive, the staff is friendly and helpful. Bullying is not tolerated, providing a safe environment for the kids. Each year, the teachers start the year by communicating with the parents about homework. The teachers tell the parents how much time to expect their child to spend on homework each night - this time changes depending on the grade level. And the teachers ask the parents to let them know if their child is spending more time than expected. They are very communicative!

CSCA is a smaller school, with a strong emphasis on academics and character values. The staff are kind and very dedicated to the kids. Parents are encouraged to be involved, and it is easy to build relationships with the teachers, principle, and other staff at the school. Even though CSCA is a smaller school, it is very proactive about maintaining and upgrading its facilities. In the three years time that my family has been at CSCA, they have renovated their library, opened a very spacious computer lab, put in a new gym floor, and are currently working on a new playground. The staff and parents of CSCA take pride in the school, and that trickles down to the students. I have been very grateful to have found a school that I feel so comfortable sending my child to.

Wonderful school! We've been at the school for 3 years now and had nothing but positive experiences. I absolutely love the volunteer requirements because it cultivates a great learning environment and community for the entire school. As a parent I want what's best for my child, and that includes me being involved in their school! There are so many ways I am able to do this and truly make a difference. The head of school is fantastic and my daughter has had a great experience with every one of her teachers. In addition to great community, the school has second to none academics. I'm quite often shocked and impressed by what the kids are learning. And if community and academics weren't enough, the school very strongly focuses on developing admirable character traits. Kids learn about respect, self-control, responsibility and so much more on a weekly basis! We did our homework before we chose a school for our kids - and it had certainly paid off here!

The school's guidelines for homework is 10 minutes per grade level (ex. 2nd grader 20 min, 3rd grader 30 min.) - as my daughter has been working her way up through grade levels the homework has increased, but still seems very much appropriate and within the guidelines!

There are good teachers and not so good teachers here. Unfortunately one of my kids has a horrible teacher that bullies and could care less about actually teaching. I've brought this up with the principal and so has several other parents. The principal has done nothing to my knowledge to fix anything. We've done like so many and left. The school has a great curriculum, but no leadership. The principal should be focusing on the kids and what is good for them, not on covering up horrible teachers and covering his but!

My youngest child is now in her last year at CSCA, having attended since kindergarten. In those nine years she has become a scholar, a performer, an ambassador, and a citizen-in-training. The school's attention to every student, demanding curriculum, and caring staff are why.

I see leadership truly committed to student excellence while still being compassionate. And I see a culture of appreciation for achievement, something we miss too often in traditional neighborhood schools--all in a stately and inspiring campus.

The future for Colorado Springs Charter Academy looks as bright as any, and it's a school I go out of my way to tell new parents about.

The staff at Colorado Springs Charter Academy have mastered the art of "Leading" as opposed to "commanding". The kids (as well as the parents) revere CSCA because they absolutely know that educators care for them on a deeper level than just the assigned responsibility dictated by their jobs. Those kids love CSCA because they feel the staff's love for THEM. I personally had my daughter in two schools, one year each, prior to CSCA. The last school before CSCA, I was the Vice President of the PTO. It wasn't until 3 yrs ago when she landed at CSCA that I finally felt secure that she would be in a healthy and progressive environment to receive a quality education. The Head of School, Mr. Murphy as well as the entire staff, lead by example. They are the first to run a traffic line or mop a mess in the hall. These people are the kind of educators that the children will remember and credit into their adulthood. They practice a model of accountability and respect and it is reflected in our children's attitudes. My two children are receiving a "first class" education that rivals most private schools. My family could not be happier.

Terrific school with high academic standards, caring teachers and involved families. We chose this school although it is not in our district due to the high academic expectations and could not be happier. Children are expected to behave and are held to high honors and respect for all. The staff is caring and very involved in the education and extra curricular activities of the children. One of the key tenants of the school is volunteering and parents are very actively involved which makes a tremendous difference. The extra courses in Art, Spanish, Music are a bonus! And to make it better uniforms make live so much easier. We highly recommend the school to everyone and are thrilled at the progress our children have made!

Great school with great teachers! I have two children here and they are both performing very well. There is a lot of homework and parent involvement required, but it is well worth it! My son was under performing in K in a different school, but excelled here in first grade. We have had a great experience with the staff. As with any school, Very pleased!

If I had a choice of negative stars, I would. This school is awful. They have had 3 different principles in the past 2 years and the teacher turn over is ridiculous! The principle allowed someone I did not approve, to pick up my child. My nephew was not allowed to go to the bathroom during class and, as a result, peed in his pants... On THREE different occasions! After the current principle was consulted, he spoke with the teacher and she blatantly lied. Every parent I have talked to at this school is pulling their child out. I would never recommend this school to anyone!

My school is Colorado Springs Charter Academy, My grandson started this year and I am amazed his report card has 10 a's and one B+ He loves school and comes home and shares what he has done that day, not just saying all was fine, but actually tells us things he's learned. The Musical was excellent and on time and the auditorium was packed. This does show parent participation. When he first started he was a little anxious after going to a private school however, it was not long and he felt very welcomes and met new friends. I really believe all his needs are met and he is getting an excellent education. I have always liked private schools as all 7 of my children attended. The price however, is not compatible to my daughters salary so this school was rated as one of the top that was not only convient but we did know some of the teachers. I felt this was an excellent choice that my daughter made. I do believe charter schools will be a thing of the future. They do also make for a great education. I do hope this charter school keeps in good standing and keeps it's education at the top of the line that is so important for our children today in order to succeed in the world today.

This is my granddaughters first year at Colorado Springs Charter Academy. So far, it has been great. She had a wonderful review during parent/teacher conference and part of it is because she likes her teacher and she even enjoys wearing a uniform to school. Her teacher has done a great job in stressing the need to finish homework and to bring it back! Making the student responsible for their homework is a good starting point to learn how important their education is. The only improvement is the need for a great air conditioning unit installed for our hot summer days!

The problem with CSCA in my opinion is poor administration and an extremely high turn over rate for teachers. My kids went there for three years, but we could see the handwriting on the wall. Every time they found a teacher they (and we) liked, the teacher would end up leaving. Some of them in the middle of the year.. When speaking with a couple of teachers that were leaving, I seemed to get the same answer as to why: they were not treated with respect, asked to work long hours without being paid, and felt a general lack appreciation. It's too bad, because the school has some wonderful qualities including a great curriculum, and a super location. Until some changes are made at the top however, I couldn't recommend it to friends or family.

This is our first year and so far we love it. I am very impressed with how helpful the students are. There is always someone ready to hold open a door- they are great citizens. My daughter loves her teacher and I feel a genuine concern from the teachers and school leaders alike.

My daughter just completed her first year here. We are both very happy with it! She has learned so much this year and she learned it in a way that was fun and rewarding for her. Her teacher was wonderful and caring, all of the administrative staff has been very nice and supportive. The overall school climate is friendly. We are looking forward to many more years here!

This was my child's first year here. While it is a decent school focused on academics, I don't feel like enough focus is put into the children on a personal level. I would like the staff as a whole, to be on a more intimate level with the kids. I feel like the main focus is grades, scores, and pushing your child above their limit, but I don't feel like they connect on an intimate level, which I think is necessary. I also feel like I'm not told what all goes on in the classroom - my child has to complain to me about being bullied/made fun of and I have to bring it up to the teacher myself to even be told about it more. I don't feel like the student(s) doing the bullying are really being held accountable for their actions, but rather getting away with it - esp. when it's something that goes on almost every day. I feel like this school is disorganized and not sure which direction it's headed towards, but hopefully it will take a step forward. I am going to allow my child to attend next year, but if I keep seeing the same issues and I'm still not 100% satisfied, I will probably place my child elsewhere. This school definitely needs improvement.

Our daughter has attended CSCA since 1st grade. She's now in 4th grade. I'm very distressed at the turnover rate of the teachers here. In her four years here she's had six teachers. In addition, her grades have been going downhill. She was an A-B student and now she's a B-C student. We tutored her ourselves one summer after the grade drop and turned to professional tutors the summer after that. Our appeals to the school have gone unheeded throughout all of this. It is equivalent to pulling teeth to simply get the teacher to speak with us about what is going on with her in the classroom. We have no idea if she is paying attention or goofing off during class. We want to help but are blocked at every attempt. We are currently looking for a school that will be more parent-friendly next year.
