I plan on switching to another school near my home soon. Staff assumes each student is automatically in tip top shape and brushes off those who need more support. I have two chronic medical conditions that make it so I feel physically unwell frequently and henceforth induces regular absence. Staff quite literally told me to tough it out despite the fact that doing so poses severe risk that could lead to dangerous circumstances for me such as falling and getting hurt along the way or fainting. I just last month started going to therapy and instantly got diagnosed with two mental illnesses. I can’t help but think that DCC is to blame for the worsening on my physical and mental health. Oh, and if you have any hobbies or sports you like to do that aren’t related to DCC forget it. They expect their students to do sports for the school, clubs for the school, work for the school, and absolutely nothing else. Not to mention the fact that over half of the work we’re given is busywork. Don’t count on teachers to teach; roughly 50% of my classes are self taught. All in all, DCC has some major cracks in their system that make it so if you aren’t surrounding your life around academics and have no obstacles in your way, you won’t succeed.

We are super happy with the school. My daughter recently attended Pine Creek and had to switch schools because we moved. I think the teachers are amazing and the assistant principal has been very helpful she even gave me her contact number outside of school. I couldn't ask for a better support team in the math category. If you have had some struggles with math don't fret, the tutors are amazing!!!

The school recently got a new Principal and he is Hard Ball IB. (International Baccalaureate) Before the kids had a choice not not do IB, but now they force every kid into all IB classes. They have switched the curriculum in the middle of their 4 years and took away a ton of choices for classes that they had in their 4 year plan. Many Honors classes have been removed (I am guessing over 50%), so the kids are not on par with the rest of the district with weighted classes. The other schools in the district give their students a hand up with tons of meet and greet opportunities with colleges along with tons of seminars on applying, finical help, choosing and how to get into a college. Other high schools have a really good college and careers staff. The College and Careers staff at DCC have been lacking and fall way behind what the other schools offer to the upperclassman. I know, because I have attended other high school's events. The Guidance counselors have been top notch in our experience and we have been pleased with their help over the years. The teachers, overall, are great teachers and care for the students. Stay clear of coaches who teach classes. Though not all the coaches are bad teachers, we have learned after 4 years at DCC, that a teacher can be a coach, but a coach cannot be a teacher. You have to figure out who these people are. I actually had a staff member tell me that there's nothing we can do to help, if the teacher is not actually teaching. I was looking for guidance for my child in a class where the "coach" didn't teach anything. Another point that bothers me, is that my oldest has not written an English essay in 3 years and I expect him to have serious problems in college with essay writing. I think a lot of their assignments are trying to promote out of the box thinking, but they take it too far and a student needs to write an essay. Because of the changes they made, I would not recommend this school, if you are not on board with IB. If you believe in IB, then definitely look to choose this school. Otherwise, I would suggest looking at Pine Creek, Liberty or Rampart. Note that Rampart is also an IB school, but up until this point, they have not taken away the students choices on classes.

I went to school here from grades K-12. This school expects all students to be able to afford materials. If you did not have your own computer you could bring to school and you couldn't rent one for fifty dollars, you would have been screwed. They do not care about low-income families. It is also very capitalism and privilege based. I did not see one minority besides me (I'm LGBT identifying), which is of course not the school's fault; I just thought that was strange. Also, the suicide rates? seriously? It's ridiculous how little this school cares about students. Do not send your student here if you are not white, wealthy, nor religious. Also, the teachers were exceptionally disrespectful to students. Unbelievable.

Our children all thrived at DCC. They each had a great group of friends. They felt safe and intellectually challenged. And enjoyed going to school there. Mr. Beckman is the greatest math teacher. Wish all teachers were as passionate about teaching as he is. The engineering program is also great. There are definitely some staff members and coaches there that are subpar. But overall, it is a good school and has the potential to be great. I can see how maybe it's not the best school for every child, but for ours it was a great experience.

Good school. But they blocked the lane allowing parents of disabled kids to get to handicap spots in time. There is a pick-up line that they want us to wait in as well. But by the time that line gets up to those spots, our children that have special needs, have been waiting 20 plus minutes after the bell rings and they are the ones that need help! At that time, all the other kids have cleared out! It is so wrong. What is the point of a handicap spot if we cannot access them when needed and available??

They say we have to wait at the end of the line and when we get up there we can park, and at that point, our disabled children have been sitting there for 20 plus minutes when they are the ones that need help!

I am a student at DCC MS. I hate it. It has some of the biggest jerks and snobs. They don't do anything about all the suicides. One of the vice principles has favorite students. If one kid does something bad she's like so what. If the other does the same thing, she rages. DCC is also very liberal. and some what sexist. They usually discriminate boys. And I am a boy, and this offends me. Do not go to this school.

The school leadership, and for that matter the school district leadership do not seem to do enough to identify, honor and celebrate the academically successful students, or help them get admitted in selective schools. Their goal is to get the students to local community of in-state school at best.

Mediocre experience. No diversity. With the exception of 2-3 teachers no one is interested in motivating students to succeed. Some of the success stories are due to helicopter parenting of some rich parents living in the school neighborhood.

Attended DCC middle through highschool.
Not a very fun enviroment if you arent rich, white, straight, and mormon. In the middle of an upperclass neighborhood, and acted like all of the students who attended could afford macbooks and ridiculously expensive equipment and fees. If you choiced in from a lower-income area and couldn't afford class materials, you were screwed and advised to drop the class.
About half of the student population aren't accepting of the other students who don't fit their demographic. If i had a penny for every time a friend or I were called f*g or butch, I'd actually be able to afford living near the school.
School admin and student counsel repeatedly brush over the national and international achievements of their arts programs and instead focus on their half-rate men's sports teams.
Teachers and counselors were passionate though, and made the experience worth it. They offer several out of the box classes like astronomy, mythology, and sci-fi literature.
All in all, an okay school with wonderful staff and terrible students.

The IB program and most of the teachers are fantastic. However, if you have a disabled student I would recommend attending another school. Administration does not care about this demographic and will brush aside your issues at every turn.

My daughter just started at DCC and we're very disappointed. This school is behind the times! None of my daughter's teachers have websites or post assignments online for parents and students. We feel like we've gone back in time at this school. At our last school the teachers communicated a lot with parents and ALWAYS updated their websites. Most of her teachers ignore my emails or reply a week after they receive them! My girl also has struggled to make friends since the school is very cliquish. I'm not that surprised since the principal has a horrible reputation in the community

This school is horrible! The school's culture is deplorable and responsible for the 6 suicides that have taken place the last 2 years. The school isn't inclusive. Unless you're white, Mormon, and rich you're going to be an outsider. Bullying is rampant at DCC and the admin and counselors do nothing to stop it. My student has been bullied for years and our complaints have always been ignored. The rules don't apply to students whose parents are wealthy. Most of the teachers are going through the motions and the admin is completely out of touch with reality. 6 suicides in 2 years is inexcusable. The folks that run this school should be ashamed of themselves.

DCC fails the top 15% of the students. Particularly in the math department. More concerned with keeping the students GPA's up rather then preparing them for success in college. For example: student takes all Honors classes as a freshman including Algebra 2 honors receives all A's and a 4.56 GPA. Gets excepted at a prestigious prep school and takes Precalc only to get a D+, as the teacher informs him that he is lacking a solid foundation of the algebra concepts. Same student takes PSAT scores quite well, all 90% or above except for a 70% on the Hearts of Algebra questions. Student went on to receive an A in the spring semester and an A in Calc fall of Junior year but he had to spend a lot of time playing catchup. Student 2 transfers after 2 years of Honors middle school classes and spends the first month of school playing catch up in his Algebra 2 class because DCC is unwilling to push these kids beyond the basics. So if you have a very intelligent student and they want to be prepared for college at a top 20% college or university you will want to find a different option.

This school has many positives, but one area that we can't seem to work around is the lack of lesson plans. As a parent (and teacher myself) I have asked all of my children's teachers for their lesson plans for the week/month, whatever they have available. However each of the teachers (minus music) has denied my request. This causes parents and students alike to be reactive instead of proactive. It does cause some concern from a teaching perspective as well. If I had no lesson plan I would not rest in the assurance my students were reaching their goals and their potential. It can become very easy to venture off task when we are on a subject that everyone loves. A lesson plan helps us reign in our goals and stay on task. It also allows parents to see exactly what we are accomplishing in the classroom, initiating home conversation and often further learning. I feel this lack of planning limits a students potential. I find it odd that the leadership does not require or review since there is a position in this IB school that is designated specifically for that purpose. Overall it is an okay school but nothing to write home about.

The teachers at this school have been so great. They are engaged and excited about teaching. The special education has been wonderful as well. My kids have had good experiences for the last three years at DCC. They are excited about going to school each day. My heart goes out to the kids who have had bad experiences. I would say that there are more kids that have good experiences though.

The teachers are amazing, they always help you to stay on top of your academics . But the truth about whats going on inside those brick walls is they cant control bullying or suicides. I was bullied and they couldnt fix it . One of my friends comminted suicides because it was to much. Its a great school but somebody needs to take control.

I don't know why the bad reviews. The school is on top of bulling and suicide prevention. My children enjoyed going to school and did very well. If you have a child that needs Special Ed they are great they listen and help a lot. My oldest graduated from DCC and they prepared him for college and my two younger kids did very well and will miss DCC for we moved out of state.

My 2 children have gone here for 2years....wonderful school! We absolutely love the teachers!! Love that the schools is all grade levels....way easier with multiple children in different levels of school. Not sure about the new principal but other than that....love love this school!

The principal chews gum while making presentations, dresses too casual, he is more into football scores than academics and allows his teachers to be disrespectful to students and parents. It could be a good school, but the high school principal is not professional. I would guess he is skating until retirement. The band director's ego is too big for his skill set. He can't retain students due to his poor attitude and his program is lacking advancement for good musicians. If you are his teacher's pet then you get accolades, if not, you are overlooked and will not learn even if you are the better musician in the class. There are a few good teachers, but most are unresponsive and allowed to be unresponsive by the principal. My child is an all "A" student in honors and AP classes so doing fine in spite of the principal and teachers. Too bad the admin and teachers lack professionalism and pride in their work.

If you love your children, do not send them here.I was bullied all throughout middle school, but the worst time was when I was on the bus one afternoon, and I got beat up by this girl I didn't even know. I was hurt pretty badly. I came home with a broken nose, and bruises and scrapes everywhere on my body. I told my mom what happened and she reported it to the school. The school checked the bus tapes and sure enough, it was clear as day. However, they told me that there was "not enough evidence" to do anything about it. I was told that the only way they could do something about it is if I asked people I knew that had also been bullied by this girl to report it. Sure enough 10-15 people then made true reports. The following week I was told to "drop it" because apparently someone had pushed the girl and they immediately linked it to me because I seemingly had a "grudge" against her. I continued to get bullied the rest of my time at dcc but I never reported it because they simply don't care. A year later the police called the school because I had attempted suicide because of repetitive bullying. They said they had no idea it was happening, and even after that they did nothing.

I've gone to three high schools. Trust me, this is by far the best of the three. The social divisions among students is much less severe than the other high school I have been to and since there is very heavy military presence, it is fairly easy to make new friends. You can always find something to complain about, but it is better to look at the school as a whole. DCC is a beautiful school, which, for the most part, has excellent and caring teachers. The teachers and administration are much more relaxed compared to my others schools, which can be annoying when you add in less mature students, but if you are serious about your education, I see this as a good thing. If you really want to succeed and work hard, you will. The AP courses provided are pretty good, and I felt prepared for the tests. I just wish they would add more AP courses such as AP Physics and an official AP Chemistry course. I'm proud to have graduated from this school. Oh, and to the person who said the parking lot was like a maze... What?

I have two children in the elementary school. One finishing 1st, the other 4th grade. In the beginning of the year, I was not very impressed. My son was put in a classroom where they had just moved a 5th grade teacher down to 1st grade and she was a huge disappointment. The young lady (only 2nd year teaching) realized this though and resigned about a month into school. They hired a super young lady, just out of college and I thought we were IN FOR IT!! Fortunately, this gal had her act together and made the very best out of a pretty bad situation. I think the administration could have helped the new gal out quite a bit more to get the class organized, so it took until around Thanksgiving before the class was truly in order and kids were on track. After all that though, it has been clear sailing! The new first grade teacher does her very best to differentiate in class and is very open to parent involvement. My daughter's 4th grade teacher has had it dialed in since the beginning. She is phenomenal when it comes to writing and language arts. DCC also has a "talented and gifted" program for kids that are above grade level, allowing kids to reach their full potential.

High school principal dresses too casual. Lead by example to the students. He lacks leadership over his teachers and counselors. The good ones are good, but they are few and far between. When you point out how unprofessional teachers react, the principal disregards. Eventually, when several of us parents tell the principal something, ignoring it is not leadership it is lazy. Find your professional attire and professional leadership. The school is going downhill under Bailey's lack of leadership.

The principal is not a leader at the school. I find most teachers to be lazy and unresponsive to parents questions. Some teachers know less about what is going on in the school than parents. Some teachers don't teach and the kids have to teach themselves. Many poor quality teachers and I don't understand how they keep their jobs year after year. Overall, it is a disappointment.

I love the "campus" design of this school!!! What a huge convenience, especially for someone with children in different grade levels (elementary through high school). This is a brand-new, beautiful school w/ all the best amenities. As far as academics go, there is a strong emphasis on IB curriculum - which is great for college-bound kids! The school is also in a wonderful and safe (extremely low-crime) area... You really can't go wrong if you send your kids to DCC!!!

My children all attend DCC,1 HS, 1MS, and 2 ES. What a wonderful thing that they are all on one campus! We have been at this school for 5 years now and being a military family who has moved around, we have had experience with lots of schools, DCC is by far the best we have encountered. I was shocked to read some of the negative reviews, but realized some people just like to complain. Administrators at each level have been responsive to all of my requests, and have always been able to work something out to make sure my children get what they need. They are definitely child centered and do their best to make sure every kid is taken care of. Is it perfect, no, but what school is? Being a newer school, DCC has had to work through some changes and growing pains, but has come out better in the end. Having seen how hard the teachers work behind the scenes and the hours they spend outside the school day, I guarantee you will not find a more dedicated group of teachers, anywhere! I would not hesitate to recommend DCC to my family and friends(and have). I would choose DCC again in a heartbeat for my children! You will find a caring community, great teachers, and a fantastic facility!

I have daughters at both DCC middle and high school and we are very happy with both. The actual school is beautiful with equipment that rivals many colleges. The teachers have all been responsive when contacted and the counselours we've dealt with regarding our special needs children were great - so much more concerned and responsive than those we dealt with in Distruct 49! Teacher monitored after school help is available every day, there are TONS of after school clubs and activities and community service hours are required for every student. There has the usual teenage drama but none of the bullying my girls saw in District 49 and the administration here is much more visible and approachable than at previous schools. The curriculum here is much more demanding than at other schools the girls have attended but students have the support system to succeed and teachers and administrators who are invested in their success. I'm really shocked at some of the reviews here, which totally contradict the experience we've had here!

This is THE worst school in the district. The teachers are just as catty and insensitive as the high school students. And the administration? Don't even get me started. My daughter went here for both middle school and high school. She hated it from the beginning, but to go to any other school was too inconvenient logistically. So we tried our best to work out the problems. Unfortunately, nothing was ever resolved. She was bullied and harassed by a group of students throughout the years and nothing was ever done about it. Also, because District 20 has this ridiculous hiring policy, all of the teachers are new and inexperienced. My daughter didn't learn a thing until she left! Plus, anytime she struggled with her work, no matter how hard she tried, it was always our fault. Working parents can do their best to help with homework, but ultimately, it comes down to the teachers. And these ones don't have a clue what they're doing! I was shocked at how rude and utterly disrespectful they have been to our entire family. I hate this school so much that I'd be willing to picket in front of it, telling everyone how terrible it really is.

I was a student at DCC from sixth to eleventh grade. It was a terrible experience. Starting in my first year, I was teased horribly and all I was told to do was "walk away." No one ever took any action, despite the fact that we had "Bully Proofing Training" once a month. Most of the teachers I had in both middle school simply just didn't care. Despite the fact that I was obviously struggling, they continued to let me slip through the cracks. Then, in high school, I was faced with a whole new set of problems from not only the cruel students, but also the administration and staff. The lack of professionalism was tremendous. During my freshmen year, my English teacher made several remarks about my religion. Her and the entire class decided to gang up on me one day and harass me about my personal beliefs. I'd also heard several teachers make rude remarks about other students' appearances and intellect when they weren't around. They acted like they were the ones in high school. When I told the school, no one did anything. This school is filled with close-minded, insensitive and discriminatory people. I'm very glad that I finally left and I would never recommend it to anyone!

My daughter attended kindergarten in this school for 6 months and it was a disappointment. The teacher and administration were unable to provide the challenge my daughter needed. In addition, there was bullying in the class. I personally had to stop a fight in the playground since the teacher did not act on it. When we decided to leave the school the teacher and administration did not even ask or care to get feedback on what was wrong. One day I picked up my child from school and her nose was swollen. She had a bloody nose at school after hitting the table and no one had the courtesy to call me. Between the lack of leadership in preventing bullying, the less than challenging curriculum I would not recommend this school. We made a decision to change schools mid year which was not a light decision but in three weeks I have a different kid who loves school and is challenged. She is being pulled out for enrichment 3 times a week, she is getting extra reading homework and her math book even covers fractions in kindergarten. I placed her in AIES and would highly recommend the school. We have restored the love for learning in our household.

We couldn't be happier and more impressed with DCC. We've had a kid at this school for four years of elementary. We have always felt welcome, the administrators are always quick to respond to issues and the majority teachers are top notch. The positives far outway the few negatives. To address some of the complaints: parking lots by definition are a hassle. Spend a little time in any of the other school parking lots. And really, is that your biggest concern? As for atheletics, the HS is new. They haven't had years to develop a strong atheletic program. If that's your biggest reason for sending your kids to school, maybe another school might be better for you. As for the IB issues, it's an IB school, so of course they'll be teaching to that cirriculum. My main goal for my children is for their continued academic success. I believe that can be accomplished with the IB program at DCC.

Review for Middle School. Grades 6-8. Excellent Principal. Great Teachers and classes. Good athletic program. IB School. Building/facilities less than 10 years old. Bus service. Not a lot of social problems :)
