We have really enjoyed this school. My child is thriving academically, has formed wonderful friendships with peers and has a lot of support from staff and faculty. As is normal anywhere we would go, we have our complaints and concerns too. Our complaints generally revolve around admistration and other parents though and do not generally impact our child's education. Turn over of principles is frustrating and communication from the school is especially lacking this year. However, any company is going to have its weaknesses and the teachers and other staff work hard to adapt as necessary. Having been at another school before this one, we don't feel that the concerns that exist are out of the ordinary for a school. Seperately, we do find the general sense of entitlement from other parents and students off putting and a major contributor to many issues that come up at the school. Bullying and other conflicts experienced by our child at this school were handled appropriately for us based on age and development.

The school feels like a completely new place EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. new principal (seriously how many will you cycle through?), new direction, everything. While I have my opinions on the academics, I dont think weve had enough overall experience yet to fairly judge the entire school. Also, the teachers are truly the schools saving grace. They are amazing.

My biggest concern is the studentteacher ratio. This charter school has gotten a bit greedy. Niche lists it as 18:1, which might technically be true if you count teacher aides, but the classrooms are definitely overcrowded. My daughters 1st grade class has 26 students, and both of my kids kindergarten classes had over 20.

It also feels like the school spends more time debating dress code than focusing on academics. And dont even get me started on the food theres no real kitchen, everything is steamed, shipped in, and honestly pretty gross.

Lastly, my sons IEP plan wasnt even touched not once. No one informed me that he wasnt receiving his services due to staffing shortages, and I only found out later, which was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. To make matters worse, the current principal gave my kindergarten son who has an IEP for autism lunch detention after another student ran into his fist and got hurt. He wasnt punching anyone; he was playing air ninja with other kids when she ran by. The principal said the other child needed validation. Regardless of that reasoning, I completely disagree with any form of lunch detention for a five-year-old who needs physical activity to succeed. But even putting my opinion aside how do you justify punishing a young child for an accident, especially one that was confirmed by witnesses and captured on video?

Idk why this school offers middle school, it's absolutely awful. It's like this school was only supposed to be an elementary school but decided at last minute they could squeeze in middle school. There's no room for middle school. And if i could rate this school a zero on how they handle bullying, I would. They PROTECT THE BULLIES AND PUNISH THE VICTIMS, I'm looking at you, CHAD. That man should not be around kids. Ever.

My students attended this school. The administration is absolutely horrible here. They are rude and inconsiderate. The principal is one of the most incompetent people I have ever met. I have overheard the administration talk inappropriately with one another as they greet students at the flagpole in the morning. Teachers make Tik Tok videos when they should be teaching students during the day...I'm confused when they say they offer a rigorous education for their students. Highly do not recommend this school.

I have been extremely impressed with this school. My son is introvert and I was nervous about him being in such a big school but everyone has been so great and cares for him deeply. All teachers he has had helps him socially as well as in his academics.

Im so done with this school. They dont follow 504 plans. Theres little consistency between teaches, staff, and parents. Teachers are able to go around the back of the counselor to get out of following the 504. Their policy for absences requires a note regardless of the nature of the appointment. My son hasnt learned anything in math or reading since last year when I homeschooled. Hes learned more in history in science, but its been limited since they dont follow his plan.

This school has been amazing! Watching the growth and development of my kiddo has been incredible. The teachers and staff are so focused on providing the best educational experience possible, and they truly care about the kids at their school. We started during peak Covid and were blown away by their processes, inclusivity, and the fact that in such a challenging time they made the experience smooth and painless for the kids AND families. I cannot recommend RMCA for families enough! Its such a great charter school option and you wont be disappointed!

I wish I could give this school zero stars. I have three children in this school and all are being disenrolled due to bullying, failure to follow educational plans like IEP, 504 and advanced learning plans. This school is very concerned with their image and not actually concerned with success. If your child is average and doesnt require and additional help, they will thrive. If your child has special needs, run!

On snow days, kids only have to do 20 mins of online work as the equivalent of "attending school." I wish I got snow days for work and only had to telecommute for 20 mins and get paid for an entire work day. And if the kids only do the equivalent of 20 mins of constructive learning during a normal school day, then as a taxpayer, I don't want my money to fund this school.

Definitely poor leadership at the school! Attribute poor school to poor leadership (Executive Principal, Principal, Dean) and the Board of Directors. Only went to one Board of Directors meeting and that was enough to see how the school makes decisions. A topic would be announced, the board members said closed-minded thoughts without discussing oppositional views. It was apparent how poor decisions were made for the school.

We have been at RMCA for 7 years. Weve seen a lot of staff come and go. However the teachers have always been amazing! They care about the kids and they are passionate about their jobs. The leadership is probably the best its been in several years. Im thankful my kids dont have to do common core, they teach character development, and I love that the middle school is small! My kiddos feel safe, and are happy to go to school each day!

AMAZING!!! This is our first year in middle school and so far so good. All the teachers seem great and my son enjoys it. A complaint is that MS doesnt have lockers to store their belongings which is very hard on the kids having to carry super heavy bags and coats etc from class to class. Hoping theyll figure something out to fix this issue

I believe homework is for students whose teacher was unable to teach them correctly and teach them enough that day. Fortunately, my three children get very little homework, and most days have no homework. That reflects on the teacher making sure the students learn the topic well that day.

To give homework to young children in elementary school is absolutely crazy. I remember my child having 20 minutes of homework most days. I remember sitting up with my other child late at night completing middle school homework, and her backpack was so heavy it was creating back problems for her.

Leadership is more concerned about collecting tuition from the preschool and their Great Schools rating than they are about educating kids. They know the teachers are overwhelmed and have asked for help. When asked for aides (because classroom sizes are above 25 students), the request is passed over by the board due to lack of funds, but immediately after that discussion, they talk about how would they market the school to bring in more students. When the pretty school opened up, parents were promised a kitchen, there is no kitchen and lunches are outsourced because a kitchen would have been too expensive. but there is a nice $4M preschool up now that collects tuition. They talk about terrible test scores and instead of talking about what the school can do to help students do better, they talk about how to market the school even though their Great Schools rating will go down due to poor test scores. Most of the board is not a good representation of the parents, they follow the headmaster, not the parents.

In Middle School, my daughter was being bullied by a boy, she was having sticks thrown at her. When we went to the principal at the time, we showed him the marks and our concerns were blown off.

More recently, some kids in middle school were called out for their dress and were humiliated in front of everyone.
Elementary teachers do a great job at monitoring classroom behavior as well as at recess and intervenes at the moment any bullying goes on.

The school needs an overhaul. Teachers are fantastic but overwhelmed. They are not listened to because the admin has a "my way or the highway" attitude. This might be why the turnover rate is high. New ideas are brought in and shut down. The school is run like a business with money being the number one concern, not the students or the teachers morale. I was crying when I pulled my child out last year, it was a great school at one point, I loved it so much, it's absolutely heartbreaking what has become of the school. PARENTS OF CURRENT STUDENTS: go to a board meeting. You need to get involved. If you don't like how the school is working, change it, let your voice be heard. "Nothing changes if nothing changes" I hope RMCA will take all of these reviews of constructive criticism to heart. It can be a great school, take parents concerns seriously and make changes.

The kids and culture in the middle school are a disgrace. My kids complain about their getting things stolen, kids littering the school with trash and gum, and none of the students follow dress code or school policies.

The overall experience at RMCA has been poor. My kids did not feel challenged, even though it's supposedly a classical/core knowledge school. Their math teacher left mid-year, and other parents have told me that their kids are struggling in high school because they did not get a good math foundation. The only thing good the school has a solid sports program. Other than that, academics are terrible, admin is terrible, and the school in general is a about as organized as the monkey house at the zoo.

Bullying seems to affect every student at some point and from what we've witnessed and dealt with it is handled quickly at RMCA. Maybe too much. At some point kids have to learn how to deal with each other. Our son had issues with someone for over a year. Not from a lack of care from RMCA but because the other kid was a complete jerk. We taught our son to respect himself and he dealt with it in his own way. He got in trouble with the school (they both did) but the bullying ended.

RMCA definitely beleives in creating good citizens. They teach our kids how to be independent thinkers but also stifle them a bit. In art they are told to draw certain things where I'd love to see them allowed to create whatever they choose.

RMCA is wonderful! As a parent, I love that my kids don't get "lost" even though there are over 1200 kids. Our boys have been there since 2nd grade (we now have one in middle school and one in elementary) and we absolutely take advantage of everything the school has to offer. Sports, academics and plenty of extra activities to keep kids and parents happy. We especially love that our kids can transition from elementary to middle school. So so happy we found this gem of a school. Sadly, the test scores on this site reflect poorly on the school. I know the admin and teachers are doing everything they can to change the tide. Personally, I don't think test scores reflect the whole picture. Would I like them to be higher? Of course! But they aren't everything.

There are many caring teachers at this school. Unfortunately, there seems to be a high turn-over rate. I suppose this may be because of lower pay, but there have been worrisome amounts of long-standing teachers leaving in the last two years.

The leadership has failed in the last two years or so to create the environment that made RMCA stand out as a solid, character-building, educational choice. There is more bullying present, less student accountability, and teachers seem less supported on dealing with student behavior. The new principal of the Middle School seems effective but the previous principal is sorely missed for his continuity and ability to connect with the students. Head-mistress is adequate but controlling in every minute detail, perhaps missing the forest for the trees, so to speak. More emphasis should be placed on the vision that RMCA has stood for then the personal legacy.

We have had nothing but good experience with the teachers, but in the last year, the new administration has caused an extremely high level of teacher turnover due to micromanagement and undervaluing employees. As a charter school the teachers make far less than their public counterparts so they are there for their passion of teaching. When admin toxifies the environment, they can easily find better paying jobs elsewhere.

This school has had high leadership turnover getting rid of bad leadership, but not retaining good. This last year was especially bad. My middleschool student is in the top 1% of her class. Testing at a college grade level in all categories, yet this last year over half of her favorite teachers left or were fired by the new admin. I am nervous for her last year, on the fence about pulling her from the school due to admin alone.

The leadership is so concerned with funding and butts in seats, their discipline policy is 100% around who you know and how many people you can threaten to pull from the school. I have seen bullies properly punished. I have seen others, caught on tape, who lied to try to get a teacher fired get off with a slap on the wrist.

Our experience has been excellent for my child's entire schooling. The move to a nicer facility has seen the culture change with more parents enrolling for the building than buy in to the culture. Admin has struggled to deal with the influx of more challenging behavior problems. The current principal is young with an ego and has attempted to rebuild the school in his image, alienating all of the teachers that have made the school great. Time will tell if the new teachers will be as good, or how long the board will put up with this last in a long line of 1 year and done principals

Unfortunately the administration either scares them off, fires them with an NDA in place so they cannot speak of them or the school for at least a year, or they come to realize that the administration are unfair and shady and leave on their own. My daughter fell down the hill (as there really is no place for them to play since they took away the field to add preschool) and bumped into a boy. The boy proceeded to punch her multiple times. He got lunchroom detention for one day and they didn't return my multiple phone calls. The administration tends to sweep it under the rug in hopes that parents will forget about it instead if addressing it head on.

RMCA has been an amazing school to our family. The teachers and staff truly love and care about our children. This school is a charter school, and therefore doesn't teach to state tests. So, even if their test scores aren't perfectly aligning with state scores (a huge parent population is at this school to GET AWAY from state standards in testing), is absolutely no reflection of the extremely high quality education and character development that my children are receiving. Instead of teaching to a state test, they teach to the "big picture." Being able to have the skills to get to college, and be able to navigate life in general. Trust me when I state that if your child is having a problem of any type (either with reading or bullying, etc), they will do everything in their power to help solve it. RMCA is also one of the safest schools in the city--they go above and beyond the district mandated practice drills, and have professionals that provide feedback on every angle to look at in order to make this school secure. This was a great school until it combined campuses now. Now the school is run like any other regular public school that focuses on data and not the individual student. Class sizes are large - 27 students in a class. The curriculum changes often or the approach to teaching it changes frequently which makes for confusion. Check your child's teacher's credentials as for this last school year 20% of the staff were not certified or were teaching a subject they were not endorsed in. They have lost 25% of their staff this year and teacher turnover is extremely high every year. 5 staff members left the school by FEBRUARY! Discipline is a joke in the school. Students will be sent to the office for punching, choking etc and the consequence is lunch detention or cleaning the lunchroom. They claim it is a classical education with rigorous academics using Core Knowledge. The history, science and even literature parts that make Core Knowledge amazing are pushed aside in favor of CKLA which is a language arts program. I used to recommend this school to everyone but I can not in good faith recommend it anymore.

It's been a great school for our daughter. Not sure about the validity of some of these reviews. I would suggest touring the school for yourself. It's run more like public schools used to be run before the pc police took over. Are any of these negative reviews from public school teachers? Hmmmmm...

Attended RMCA 7 Years. The early years were great. Terrific teachers and admin staff.When the new school opened everything changed. Administration and staff seemed stressed. Our student's physician prescribed a 504 plan for him and we had a meeting with teachers and counselor to discuss. The plan was intended to help my child to succeed. It seemed as though they cared,but nothing changed. One teacher volunteered to help organize his backpack,which looking back,should have set off alarms. No plan was put into action. Still hoping something would change,our Physician again prescribed a 504 plan. A VERY SIMPLE plan. Long story short, we were politely dismissed. How I wish we had pulled him out of this school. It was detrimental to his self worth, confidence, and attitude towards school.Although the Administration apologized at the end of the year,it does little to help the end result.I would caution parents who are considering this school. STRONGLY.

We have been so impressed with this school. Everyone we have met has been very nice and helpful. We did not like the school we went to last year, it was overcrowded, staff unhelpful and the environment was so unfriendly. It has been the complete opposite since we have started at RMCA. Both my kids are thriving. My husband and I both work full time and the homework can be overwhelming at times, but to see my kids grow has been amazing. I also feel this school takes into account working parents.

Frequently if one child misbehaves, then "everyone" walks the line or misses recess for the actions of one student. It is the "you ruined it for everyone" mentality. That does not instill fairness at all.

After homeschooling my child through 1st grade, we decided on RMCA mainly for the social interaction. Entering 2nd grade, it was clear our child was further advanced than most of the children in the class. The daily work that is done in class, as well as what comes home for homework is quite a lot honestly. Every night there is reading and math homework, which we are okay with, but the amount is sometimes overwhelming for a 7 year old child. 2 to 4 pages of math homework, which is, for example, the same simple math facts just jumbled up on each sheet, becomes excessive. Also, there is always a new project due! One after the other, and they are not "simple" projects. They require supplies to be purchased and adult assistance. On top of this, there are multiple tests. Spelling every week (no issue here), but also world tests, Geography, Spanish, tests on China, Greece, etc. The amount of "busy work" the students do has my child bored and asking to leave this school already. Stacks of papers come home every week that were done in class and they are so repetitive in nature that it is very clear this work is issued to pass time in the classroom. While I do like my child's teacher and the building itself, I am just really disappointed in the curriculum. In one area the work is repetitive and too easy, and in the others it is too much information in short periods of time followed by a large test. My 8th grader is in public school, and she and her friends frequently comment that some of the work, for example in World History, they have just learned this year. While that could be a jab at the public school system, it is an insight to the nature of the testing. However, 2nd grade math papers with 2+1 over and over come home as well. There is no balance. Maybe I am expecting too much of a Charter School, but we thought it would be a well rounded, challenging curriculum that was adjusted to suit each childs' learning ability. Even in public school, our 8th grader through the years has been put into gifted classes, and issued work that was more challenging for her when needed. This has not been the case at RMCA. If not for the social interaction, we would have pulled our child out already which we are considering.

I sure do wish I could be part of the "rage" over this school, but I can't. I have 5th grader who needed to continue on with Saxon Math and he has been met with a common core curriculum. YES.... I said it a-"common core" math book at a school that does not believe in common core. The principal says they are attempting it to try and get kids "ready" for their future. Ready for a future of "common core"?? I think not. In my son's second grade, I think they are expecting way too much of the working parent. I am a single Mom raising two children and they have a project every other week. Not to mention daily spelling, reading and math. We will finish this year for the sake of not moving my children mid-year but I caution you- please think long and hard before choosing this school. I think they are missing the heart of a charter school that they once had. They do have a bright new building, but in turn the education and family-like environment has suffered.

We enrolled at RMCA because we have close friends who have sent their children there for several years. Unfortunately, the best thing about this school is the building. The curriculum is strong, but there's so much more to education than creating robots to send out into the world. Education is not one size fits all. The administration is very cold and some staff members seem to be too stressed to care about individual needs of the students. RMCA seems to be more of a business than a caring environment for our youth. Too bad they can't get it together and escape their bad reputation.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share my excitement about my appointment as Headmaster at Rocky Mountain Classical Academy. RMCA has a reputation of excellence, and I feel fortunate to be involved at a school with a culture focused on student learning, innovation, and a commitment to high expectations of classical education. It is my goal to continue to strengthen and build upon these important traditions and practices. During my five year tenure, I have utilized a unique and creative approach to education combined with a commitment to solid pedagogy to not only raise academic performance but provide students with the necessary skills to succeed as leaders of the future.

Having been both a principal and teacher during my educational career, I enjoy taking an active leadership role in promoting college preparatory education. I hold a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities with a focus on English Literature, including a double minor in Theatre Arts and Art. I have a passion for the philosophy of classical education. This, coupled with a strong desire to share exemplary teaching practices, has led to numerous experiences serving the educational community in staff development, administrator conferences, and accreditation teams in a multi-state area. I have been a mentor for student principal and teacher candidates, and starting this fall I will be working with the Colorado Department of Education as a mentor for turn around schools.

The staff was always professional and friendly, and his teacher, Mrs. Wendt, was beyond amazing! This school has been amazing for my son! We are very happy with RMCA. My son is a typical boy and when he had some trouble on the playground the teachers and admin were amazing. They do not allow bullying or kids to be mean and there are consequences, but they are fair and consistent. I had no complaints when my son got in trouble I thought it was right and fair and we backed it up at home. My son learned his lesson and hasn't gotten into trouble again. I know my son has great people here showing him how to have good character by how they act themselves. I am very thankful to them for how much they care about our kids and for how communicative they are and in wanting to work with parents for their kids.
I've never paid attention to this site but got on after I heard a parent in the front office of the school threatening to get on to give a bad review. They were threatening and cussing out the people who were trying to help them. What this parent was calling them was very awful and I felt so bad for them. The parent was not going to be allowed to volunteer for our event if they were using language like that and the parent thought they had a right to volunteer no matter what language they were using. I was glad the administration stood firm on this even though they were being threatened with calling the district and a bad review. I'm glad they are looking out for our kids like this. I do not want people like this around my son and if I can't be at an event I want to know parents are not yelling at my child. I am glad to know RMCA is keeping my son safe.
Also, there was an older man in the office yesterday who was very mad about having to show his ID to have a check done before he could come into the school. If you are going to a school you should expect a background check to make sure you are safe to be around kids. If you have a problem with that then the problem is you!
Thank you RMCA for taking such good care of my son and for a really great year. All the activities, especially Colonial Day have been really fun for my son but for me too! I have really enjoyed getting to be a part of my son's education. We are military and have never been at such a great school like this. It upsets me to have people want to give bad reviews when it is such a great school and a great school for my son!

Sad to say, I do not see "transparency" with the administration happening at RMCA. There are things that go on behind the scenes that are ALARMING. As a previous teacher at RMCA, I can say that when your supervisor (admin, principal) asks YOU to justify or tell them WHY a parent volunteer should NOT be consuming alcohol on a school sponsored trip...you become disillusioned. It is incredibly disappointing to see not much has changed with the new building.

As a parent who has been on the fence about this school all year, I am curious to know what the "disturbing news" was mentioned by the previous poster. The ladies in the front office are wonderful and my child has an outstanding teacher, but I find that information about what is actually going on in the school very hard to come by. When the principal left suddenly earlier this year, the situation was never fully addressed. We had absolutely no idea what happened or if/when there would be a new principal appointed. Lunch time is absolute chaos. There is no fence or any kind enclosure around the playground! Barring an exceptional offense, I fail to see how firing a teacher mid-year benefits anyone. We absolutely need more transparency from the administration.

This school year has consisted of nothing but instability and poor communication since the change in leadership earlier in the first semester. As a parent at RMCA for a number of years, I have weathered many changes. This year has been the most difficult for my children, and I don't believe it has anything to do with moving into the new building. I ask the Board to please evaluate your internal structures and provide some stability for your valued staff members, as they are the ones who maintain stability for our children! What good is a beautiful new building and more space, if your childs teacher is fired in the middle of the year, or the administration becomes so frustrated with one individual who holds all the power, that she chooses to leave a school that she loved tremendously. I am acting in the school and hear/see so many issues that concern me. Please, RMCA, get it together, I love this school and I can't fathom the thought of considering another school for my kids. The previous two years I felt encouraged and hopeful for the direction of RMCA, and after hearing some disturbing news today, I can't say that I feel the same.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this school to anyone. They require parents to sign away their parental right to guide their child's education with a Parent Commitment form. My kids were special needs children, straight A students, never behavior problems but were asked to leave the school because we refused district and state testing in the best interest of their health. This school cherry picks students and doesn't care about the 'whole child'; scores are more valuable than students. They've had financial problems and lost their high school to mismanagement. Any parent of a special needs child knows how traumatic it is to relocate to a new school. I CANNOT Rocky Mountain Classical Academy or any charter school which violates a parent's right to do what is best for their children for scores.

This is a great school! The teachers really care about my boys. I appreciate how well informed they keep me. The school seems to be well organized with good lines of communication. Their curriculum is tough but my boys are doing wonderful. I appreciate all the hard work the teachers and staff put into helping my boys succeed. Don't be fooled by the new fancy building. The staff at this school does not care about what is best for your child. My son's teacher has been dismissive of my concerns throughout the year. They claim to have an advanced curriculum, their standardized test scores don't reflect that. My son's teacher is inexperienced and does not know how to teach the curriculum. My experience with this school has been beyond terrible and I believe detrimental to my son's education and emotional well being. Believe me when I say if you enroll your child here, you are taking a risk! The staff at this school has little intergrity!

All I can say, is I hope the new building will help with organization and communication. I am a teacher who used to work for RMCA, and my reason for leaving this school was based on the lack of organization, communication, and security. I realized that charter schools are VERY different than traditional, public schools. I also realized that charter schools are not for me as an educator. I have since moved on to a public school district. I prefer to know expectations upfront from my admin, and it seems that expectations change frequently at RMCA (possibly just a charter school thing). The TEACHERS are very hard working and do their best with what they have - but they don't have much. I just hope they haven't bitten off more than they can chew with this new building.

I wanted to respond to the post about students with special needs not getting help at RMCA. All D-49 charter schools want to help all students, but are limited by the resources that D-49 gives them. Charter schools pay a huge amount of money to the district and in turn the district is to supply the SPED employees at the school. RMCA gets one resource teacher for elementary and one for middle school----one teacher to meet all the IEP students' requirements. Why would a district employee want to work at RMCA when they could go to a district school and be one of a team hired to service IEP students at that school? I'd encourage parents to ask some questions of the district, such as how much money are you taking a year from the charter schools for SPED services and what kind of services are you giving in return. As a parent with a special needs kid, it is hard. Although a charter school may seem like a better choice in terms of class size and social environment, you need to make sure that charter school has the resources to meet your student's needs. If not, perhaps ask the district to provide services at the charter schools, rather than just blaming the charter school.

We have had our kids at RMCA for the past 51/2 years. We liked the idea of core knowledge, uniforms, parental involvement and such, but it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. There was some great teachers and staff there, but if you have a student with special needs, don't expect to have their needs met effectively. Charter schools are not supposed to discriminate based on disability, but they do. The staff there changes every year and sometimes in the middle of the year. They had a great special ed teacher there who left end of the year 2013. The next special ed teacher lasted a year and now the current special ed teacher only there for a semester is leaving. Not a good sign I think. Classical academies may be good for some kids, but not for kids who are "average" students or have special needs. My boys feel deflated, when they should be encouraged. We have decided to move our kids to regular public schools for this reason. It sounds like my son's needs will be better met there and he will hopfully thrive. I hope in the future charter schools will inprove their educational aproach for all students.

I really wish I could give this school a good rating but unfortunately I cannot. The staff turnover at this school is beyond frustrating. Every single year there are various staff members who leave in the middle of the year. As someone who values my child's relationships with their teachers', I cannot understand what could be going on in this school. My children have been directly and indirectly affected by these teachers leaving mid year. The elementary principal left earlier this school year after moving to various positions and now another teacher. This makes me worried about where I am sending my children. Is the environment so toxic that they cannot keep quality teachers?? Is staff morale even a consideration by the BOD or the administration?? I am actively pursuing other educational options for my children.

I agree about the class size. We truly love this school and we feel our children are getting a good education, but sometimes I wonder if they are "lost in the mix". We did choose a charter school for smaller class sizes, but when they put 25-27 kids in a class that is no longer a smaller class size! Teachers can not give the students the attention they need/deserve when the classes are that large. I also like that I send my kids to a uniform school but the uniform policy does not seem to be enforced. My kids are in uniform every day yet I see children in crazy shoes, tights, unapproved colors, etc. If we're a uniform school, then enforce it. Otherwise, let all the kids where what they want and not just the students who parents don't respect the policies they knew were in place when they enrolled their kids. I also don't think people can lump the dress of all teachers together. I see many teachers up there who are professionally dressed. We are excited for the new building (yet we worry class sizes will get even larger) and we plan to continue at RMCA. Both kids have amazing teachers and are happy.

RMCA is a great school and the teachers care tremendously about the students who attend. There is a high degree of parent involvement, and the use Core Knowledge curriculum, which is completely different than Common Core. The former Principal was NOT asked to step down, rather she moved into the Learning Services Director position full time, which she had been doing all along in addition to being the Principal. A hefty job load that she did very well. Soon there after she resigned to take a position offered to her with Falcon School District 49. The new school building looks and sounds nothing short of amazing and your child will have a fantastic educational experience at RMCA. My child has attend for the past three years and we wouldn't have it any other way.

My daughter is flourishing at this school. She loves going to school and is learning so much. I'm not sure why all the parents recently have been focusing on teachers wearing flip flops and I have never seen a teacher wear yoga pants to school. Not sure about others but my feet swell in the hot sun or when standing- perhaps there are specific reasons as to why one would wear flip flops. Perhaps focus should be more on if a child likes the school as opposed to the footwear choices of the adults. As for my family- we couldn't be happier at RMCA

The negative reviews are upsetting as this is our kids' school and I don't see any of the negatives posted below with admin. The teachers are great and I have happy kids. Hello, I am the Headmaster of RMCA. We are building and opening a spectacular new school facility this year. Because of this we opened one class per grade level for this school year and had a huge response with new student enrollment over the summer. We have a close community and are a school of character and high academics, and have been growing. Some classes are full and some have some openings left but once they are filled we will not have the ability to open additional classes. I invite everyone to take a tour to see our program in action. horrible administration - I tried to dis- enroll our son 3 months (!) before school starts - left messages, wrote a letter and e-mail - we still received a school e-mail 2 months later - again - e-mailed the school - they said they will take care of the dis -enrollment - classroom teacher calls the house on the first day of school for absence - again I insist that they dis- enroll us ( for the 5th time !) - on the first day of school in my son's current public school we found out that RMCA had told them to dis-enroll my child - can you imagine my sons panic when his name was on none of the class lists? What is going on? I have contacted RMCA MANY times - how hard is it to dis- enroll a child? I am thankful to our awesome public elementary who was able to work with us and fix the issue - thanks RMCA for scaring my son to death and making his meet the teacher in his school a nightmare! Glad we will not be attending RMCA !!! We had nothing but horrible experiences with their admins !

I have two students that are enrolled in RMCA and they finished second and forth grade. My daughter came from another school where she had a tough time reading and did not get the help she needed. My wife and I looked at a number of schools and found RMCA. After enrolling her, her reading scores started to go up and she was able to get the help she needed to succeed in school. I have been very happy with RMCA and on my days off I have lunch with my daughter and son at the school. I have experience a very health school setting for both my son and daughter in academics and socially. The teachers at the school have really cared for my kids, which has made me feel better and in return our home life is better.

this school has the most dis-organized administration! Very hard to speak with anyone in person. We were very disappointed in this school - we had high hopes last year when we enrolled both of our children. What we experienced was a sub par school - worse than the public schools in the district. Read the test scores and compare them with others in the district - their middle school scores are horrendous. They claim to emphasize core values but reading is average at best, math below average in many grades - so where are those core values? Instead there is focus on the correct uniforms, dress codes and such while teachers and secretaries play pranks on each other at the end of the year and walk around in tank tops and flip flops ( now what kind od example does that set for the kids). Both of my kids - who had loved public school hated RMCA and begged me to be able to go back to public school - they are both good students - with stellar report cards - they went from loving school to dreading school every day! There is also a lot of bullying and nobody seems to care. Not only did my children not enjoy their time at RMCA but they are now behind academically as well - stay away !

We just finished our 4th year with RMCA and it is a great school! Both of our students are excelling at reading and math and they love to go to school. All of the staff and teachers are helpful, friendly and passionate about the students. The teachers email out weekly newsletters, which are very helpful. The principal also communicates often. Great school all around.

My children go to RMCA in August 2013. I learn that RMCA is a great school with many great teachers and staffs. They help students with learning and behavior difficulties. Some parents volunteer at school or donating goods for the school. School communications are really good with options through emails, facebook, websites and infinite campus.

Rocky Mountain Classical Academy is a wonderful school! The teachers are very caring and very skilled. We love all the activities and the way they teach the my kiddos. This is more than a school, it is a family! So many of the families have such strong values and faith and it carries through and is re-enforced with the strong character education. The PTO is strong and the parents are very active here. I am proud to have my kids at this school and look forward to the years ahead! PS... the specials teachers (art, pe, music and library) are FANTASTIC and very gifted!

I am a very happy parent of RMCA. My children thrive here. I can't thank the administration enough for taking a strong stance to not allow a few badly behaved students terrorize the others. All students are respected and cared for. The teachers lead with compassion and the director has hired an administration that go beyond for students. Before we came to RMCA we were so frustrated not getting the services we needed for our kids. The principal and assistant principal have done so much for us and their teachers are so great at making learning something my kids don't want to miss school for. I LOVE working here. The admin at the elementary campus is amazing. I feel appreciated by the staff, parents and students. I can't wait to get to work everyday. I have a love hate relationship with most charter schools but this one really does live up to their mission statement. I love how the school works with your child's learning ability. I've noticed such a huge improvement in the two years my child has attended RMCA. All of my child's tests reflects that. I plan on sending her through middle school. I'm not 100% sure if they have a high school campus. If they do I will be sending my child to RMCA until she completes high school. Also, I love their zero toleration towards bullying. I don't believe any school is perfect so to be fair I do have a few things that I feel need attention... I would like to see the teachers get more help and there be more parent involvement. I know most of this is because of their huge growth spurt and understand that. To me.. communication is key... Overall, I would highly recommend this school. I'm thankful for the parent that introduced me to RMCA. If I would have listened to some of the nasty reviews my child would have missed out on a great education!

My son went to RMCA and all we got were empty promises and no follow through on things they said would be done for my child. Teachers and front office were cold and unfriendly. With no real oversight teachers could do whatever they wanted and when it was brought to the attention of the principal and the board nothing was done. BEWARE!!!

We transferred to this school from a local public elementary school. We left because I was dissatisfied with the curriculum. RMCA gave us what we were looking for; a loving and challenging environment where our 3 children could learn and excel. We appreciate all the hat work the teachers put into teaching and leading our children. We have had children at the elementary, middle and homeschool campuses. Each campus had a loving and knowledgable staff and a safe and challenging environment.

Unfortunately, the elementary school is on the decline. Against the advice of the previous interim principal, they hired a leadership team with very little classroom or leadership experience. The character development aspect of the school, once a real strength, has been undermined by an administrative staff that fails to model the very traits that the school teaches the children. Compared to several years ago, parental involvement has waned. The school board's focus has increasingly leaned toward the middle school. The teachers I talk to are discouraged by the lack of professionalism and the apparent lack of accountability for administrators who are sadly and obviously over their head. Hopefully the board and director will pay attention to all the warning signs that point to a future exodus of many beloved teachers and the families/students that will miss them. The handwriting is on the wall. Only time will tell if the RMCA elementary campus will live up to its potential or settle for mediocrity.

This is a fantastic school. The administration is awesome and Mrs. Divitto, the elementary school principal is very loving, caring and extremely punctual when it comes to communicating with parents. I would give the school a 5 if the building was newer and from what I understand they are in the process of building a new one now.

It should concern readers that many of the "rave" 5-star reviews on this site are from staff rather than parents. This school is lacking in so many ways that are not obvious at first glance. Unfortunately, it is the students that suffer when the academics are not as promised.

Sadly RMCA is not what it advertises to be. We were very excited when Mr. Izzy took over as principle at the middle school. He is very attentive, appears to care about the students and has a good balance of nurturing and discipline. Unfortunately, a few families, in particular families of board members and their closest friends are given preferential treatment and show a lack of moral character. Their children run the school. Most of the teachers are good but there are a few that are really rude to students and parents.

Our school is the BEST it has ever been!! We have some fantastic new teachers and staff morale is up. Our administration is far from cold(as stated in a previous review), it is the best administration I have ever worked for. This school is getting ready to build a new building and that will further the school in many ways. I was able to look past the current building and did not judge a book by it's cover and I could not be happier!! This school is a family that cares about each and every student and their family that attends. RMCA has my vote for 5 stars. I hope to be teaching here a long time from now. We were with RMCA for 4 yrs and it used to be a great place. I was involved ALL the time, so I know things. The majority of teachers, specifically those that have been there since the beginning are wonderful. But, I am sad to say that we decided to pull our child due to the change of leadership at the Elementary school. The current administration doesn't demonstrate the character qualities that the school promotes. I have seen a negative effect toward the parents and the teachers. I would say that this school has gone from a warm friendly atmosphere to a cold and non-friendly atmosphere. RMCA feels more like a corporation focused on numbers and succeeding, versus loving the kids and trying to help them be the best human beings they can be. RMCA has drifted away from their original vision and are on a road we do not want to be a part of anymore. Those of you who think it is great, GET INVOLVED and ask questions...see what is going on "behind the scenes", you will see for yourself what is really happening with the administration.

I have been in love with this school for years. Please ignore the parent below - she left years ago, but still logs on to tell us her personal problems here. The staff go above and beyond what is required or even hoped for! The students are excited to learn and enthusiastic about activities done at school. The administrative team has been a breath of fresh air. They hired new staff that are energized and full of ideas! The PTO has a strong presence in the school and are extremely welcoming, always offering extras to the students. Honestly, if you walk in the front doors and meet the people who make up this family, you will never want to leave!!

This school is awesome, it has great teachers,and an Awesome princibal. They try to help students if they are strugling. They also have great after school groups such as Cross Country,Football, Basketball, Volleyball,and many others. This is a great school, I rate it 6/5 stars.

While RMCA had the right idea when it was established, it has since horribly strayed off that path. Parents are required to pay a $100 activity fee and provide several hours of volunteer time each year and, in return, what RMCA delivers is indifference and poor communication. The middle school principle is unable to maintain control of students without yelling during assemblies, and often punishes all students for the few who misbehave. She is often frazzled, conveys a negative attitude and is impossible to get in contact with. The board of directors are difficult to get a response from as well, and are quite an exclusive bunch. The worst part of RMCA is how ineffective they are in taking care of issues. My son was bullied, and while the students were pulled into the office and "spoken" to, at no time was any real discipline enforced, only hollow threats. The only time one of the boys was expelled was when he disrespected enough teachers to get noticed, and even then he was allowed back when he wrote apology letters. If you want a mediocre education with a lot of administrative headaches, RMCA is for you.

This is a great school. The administrator at the middle school completely turned the school around. It was a completely different experience. My son had some catching up to do but now he is on track and eager to learn. I am sorry to see some of these reports knowing how much work the new administration and the teachers have done to make this a school I am proud to send my child.

WORST SCHOOL EVER! I had my daughter enrolled in kindergarten 2011-2012 and had to move to Floriday in April of 2012. I found out that she was no where near where she had to be in order to progress to first grade and they were going to hold her back. This school only cares about raising money - more fundraisers came home every day instead of homework and readers! The teacher could not control her students and even told me one day that my daughter had rolled her eyes at her and wanted me to discipline her! The students should have been sent home with reading material from the very first day - but they don't start to teach reading until the fourth quarter of the year - entirely too late in nation standards. The school administration is very unorganized and unprofessional in their attire as well as their customer service, or lack there of. If the school requires the students to wear uniforms I would expect the teachers and admin shouldn't wear jeans and flip flops, which they did every day. I should have known this was a bad school when the meet the teacher night was with a teacher that was too scared and insecure to come talk to me and my daughter and make her feel welcome. Stay away

Do not recommend putting your kids here. It seemed fine the first two years, but there are SERIOUS problems. Check out their test scores, I switched schools after two years and learned after testing that they were two years behind. Staff is not supportive or properly trained.

Absolutely love this school! As a former teacher, I can say that if I didn't find the perfect fit for our childrens' education, we were going to consider home school as our only other option. We have high expectations for academics and we consider ourselves to be pretty conservative as well. I can't say enough, how thrilled I am that a friend of ours recommended this school. My daughter has been at RMCA for two years now and my son will begin attending kindergarten in the fall of 2012. RMCA's elementary campus is not pretty (by any means), but what goes on inside is wonderful. RMCA hosts a caring staff, kids who enjoy learning, character building is a priority, and PARENTAL involvement is high on the list as well. We are a military family, and my only dread to leaving Colorado would be leaving this school. I don't think there are many out there like it!

This school is one of the worst schools in the area. Teachers are unqualified and cant seem to handle students. Middle school staff are uncaring and worthless. Principal is in her own little world and does not care about anything but making herself look good. Teachers have no clue what state standards are and have no idea how to meet them.l

We pulled our daughter from RMCA after she completed kindergarten. I found the school administration to be very unorganized. I saw first hand how the kids did not follow the dress code, the school is a mess and falling apart, the classes were cluttered and over crowded. The teachers may have great and caring attitudes however they dress very unprofessionally. If the children are expected to have a dress code than capri's and flip flops and tattoos are unacceptable. The education was great and solid, however there is so much more to school than reading and math. The kids at this school are not well rounded. The discipline is a joke, as well as the core values. This particular charter school has cut many of the educational programs including languages, and the entire high school program. Unfortunately this school dose not live up to the hype they claim on thie rwebsite. They are an unorganized mess.
